Staff had overall strange energy and seemed bored, but that's not why I'm here. The common theme amongst all the food at Lucy's seems to be a lack of seasoning. I ordered the 4 Pc basket, chicken was heavily under seasoned, skin was crispy at parts but not enough, chicken was dry. Their honey comes in tiny Smuckers packets and you have to interrogate them to find out what other sauces they have. I got a small side of Mac and cheese that was reminiscent of good ol' Bob Evan's that's been sitting out for a while. Cold and dry, not a fragment of light could glisten off of that scientifically dry, congealed, flavorless Mac. Shame on you. The fried okra was fine, but again no seasoning, so it relies heavily on their mediocre (hopefully store bought) ranch. Tried my friend's coleslaw too, chalky and flavorless except for the overpowering acid blast from whatever vinegar they doused on it. In the end I paid $26 for 4 pieces of chicken and 2 small sides. Meal was a 3/10. Lucy's is lacking basic fundamentals and integrity across the board. They don't even give you a biscuit for your troubles. Really enjoyed grabbing lunch here last week! It's a very classic Austin vibe with open seating outside (limited indoor seating) but I like that it's a small location-keeps the noise down! Parking is very limited, but there is street parking nearby. If you enjoy some good 'ol fried chicken and other fried foods, this is the spot for you. The breading is delicious! I am not one who likes to give a negative review but I must. This was my second experience going to this restaurant. The first was a very good experience so of course I thought it would be the same the second time ... NO consistency correct heck! no the chicken was cold when I got it and looked like it had sat for quite a while in their kitchen. The greens completely and altogether gritty.. now I have lived in a probably about 15 different states and I am a Negro yes a black woman and I know how greens are supposed to taste. It had a great balance of flavors and is worth an order if you are looking for a chicken sandwich. The regular chicken sandwich was also very good. The Fried Deviled Eggs were ok, I wanted to try them because I have never had them before. I will say that I would just stick with regular deviled eggs next time. these were a bit dry internally after the cooking process. If you just want to try to them try them give it a shot, however I think there are better options. The fried chicken was good, however the white meat was very dry. The dark was great, but the white I had to dip in sauce to make it palatable. This could be an arbitration, however dry fried chicken is not good. This place gets 5 starts because it was the restaurant that first introduced me to Austin's stellar food scene. The nostalgia will always have me coming back, it's unfortunate the other two locations have closed down. It's not the fastest moving environment, but the calmness is part of the charm. Drinks 10/10. The fried chicken is a can't miss because of the amazing crunch, but beware of the roof of your mouth hurting for a couple days. The mexican coke sweet potatoes taste like dessert and are oh so good, but if you're looking for actual dessert, you can order from their array of pies. We sat in the covered outside seating area (watch out for the sneaky birds), but a full bar and inside seating is available. Staff was super nice and food came out quick. Happy Hours is a real thing here in Austin, and they've got that covered too. Sunday brunches are until 3pm. A very extensive menu from salads, sandwiches, pies, kids' menu, etc. including a bit more challenging items like mountain oysters, chicken livers and gizzards, etc. Take note, Gluten free option on the menu may not be entirely gluten free. "TENDERLOVIN' CHICKEN TENDERS - gluten-free tenders are made with rice flour they are prepared in the same fryers as our regular flour based fried chicken. The tenders were dry and tiny, for that price you should receive at least 3 giant tenders, juicy and cooked to perfection; $16 for chicken tendys? They better be phenomenal. Mashed potatoes were good, but super buttery so if that's not your jam steer clear. The gravy was disgusting, white gravy that just tasted like flour. When you walk in they had a sign saying to seat yourself, you can choose between indoor or outdoor. We sat outside and a waitress helped us immediately. We ordered what was featured on the show which was the Fried Chicken Nachos and the Fried Chicken Basket. The fried chicken was good, not the best I've ever had but still good. The outer crust was very flavorful and the chicken stayed moist. I would skip the Fried Chicken Nachos, they were okay but they were overloaded with refried beans and the chicken that was on them was a little dry. But you do get a lot of them for what you pay. When food came out it was the other server who brought it out. We never had anyone check in on how everything tasted in fact I had to get my own condiments from another table and the worst part when we ordered to the time we asked for a box she would walk away before I can finish my sentence therefor she would ask me to repeat. Ordered takeout on a Sunday evening. Food was hot and ready when we arrived on time. When we arrived at the hotel 5 minutes later, we unpacked everything to find it all soggy, and thrown into paper bags. The fried pickles were limp and all the breading came off. The chicken tenders are pull apart flakey, melt in your mouth goodness. I literally cannot get enough of this place. The honey mustard is a must!!! No sides come with the tenders, which is kinda lame... sides are 6 bucks or less depending on which one. So I usually just get the chicken unless I want to spend like 20 plus just for a quick lunch. The staff seems more attentive if you are sitting at the bar, but I never really want to rush to much when I'm here. The fries today were perfectly cooked, had a lil season on them that wasn't to over powering, a nice subtle flavor underneath it. Alright so, I'm a big fan of hole in the wall places just like everyone else so when my friend showed me this place and it had chicken and waffles, I was pretty hyped! It was pretty good, but the REAL meal you need to get is the CHICKEN FRIED STEAK. I have tried both their fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Just good quality comfort food. The amount of mashed potatoes that come as a side is enough for a meal all on their own! The collard greens are a bit vinegary for my taste, but the next day, when I finished them off that taste was gone. Perhaps that's one of those dishes where the flavors need time to meld.
