Hey Luuuucy, I'm heeeere.
Now that I got my best Ricky Ricarrrrrrdo impression out of the way, let me get down to business. I was all set to eat a burrito or have some homemade "ballpark nachos", because bae (aww, que cute) knows I'm easy peasy when it comes to an anniversary dinner. What I didn't see coming was this curveball of getting Lucy's and heading to trivia. I HAVE BEEN WANTING THIS CHICKEN EVER SINCE SARAH POSTED PICTURES OF IT. I've been driving past Lucy's weekly for the past month or two, so when we pulled up, I wanted everything.
I reeled it in though. Fried pickles, chocolate shake, cheese fries (with jalapeños *sky point*) and a spicy chicken sandwich, exactly the way it comes with a side of some sauces. We were running a little behind schedule, so the dude ran in to place a to go order. We dove into our food about 15 minutes after we left, and everything held up nicely. The fried pickles really impressed me. Crisp on the outside, but slightly soft on the inside. I could have eaten 10 of these, but I only ate 2, because there were only 4 and apparently it's nice to share. The cheese fries were really good and the chicken sandwich really was huge. There's little that irks me more than someone saying something is "huge" and "super filling" and in their 2-bite mind it is, but they're wrong. Not the case here. They attached a $7 off coupon to dine in next time if we signed up with an email, so we were down to try them again! To quote some Canadian actor, "What am I gonna do, say no?"
This time, we planned to split their Juicy Lucy and some fries and actually reel it in. Yeah, that didn't happen. We were freakin' hungry and also assumed we'd have some fomo (look at me, using hip language) and ordered a 2-piece of chicken. We were going to order the sandwich, but I realized it's the same chicken they put on the sandwich and this comes with a side of cornbread, for the same price. While that bun is good, I wasn't about to pass up trying the cornbread. It was alright. I've had worse, but I've definitely had better. I'd still get the 2-piece meal again over the sandwich, depending on what I'm in the mood for though, so there's that. The burger was good. If I somehow ended up here and the smell of a burger hit me, I'd get it, but I'd hands down order the chicken over the burger any other time. This second time though, the cheese fries were waaaaay too salty. I stopped eating them and left them for the dude to eat, even though he agreed they were salty, and he's not usually one to say that about anything other than my attitude change when I hear anything Bears related. We'll probably be those Chads and Karens who ask for no salt on the fries next time and let the cheese take care of the seasoning, but I can live with being that person.
I'm glad we finally made it here. I'm not gonna lie, I'm all about that Popeye's chicken sandwich lately, but if I want a legit sandwich from a place where I have to actually go inside and get my food, Lucy's is that spot. Oh, and absolutely get a shake from here! read more
