    Smash jibarito burger O'gilla
    Jeremías C.

Nothing wrong with this jibarito burger. They use a ripe plantain so everything is very soft mushy and the same texture. If you want a sweet burger you might like it. I think I prefer crunchy savory plantains for a sandwich or burger. I ordered a side of chips and I didn't like them at all I couldn't even eat them. The location is clean but no bathroom. We were the only ones there so service was great. Food came out fast. I don't know if I would go back just because I feel like I've had a better jibarito burger and they're overpriced.

YUM! We were craving burgers so we ended up going to this place to try something new! It did not disappoint! I'm a sucker for a good smash burger. Is it the best burger in the city? I mean, no. I won't overhype it, but it's definitely worth the try! The place is small so limited seating, but we were able to find some stools when we got there. You order at the counter and they bring you your food pretty straightforward. The people working there were also kind and they cook right behind the counter so you can see everything!

GO HERE NOW! I've been dreaming about this place well before I tried it. I'm so excited to go back and try the other items! The staff member was kind enough to allow me to try to sauces before I purchased. The Ogilla was mind altering. I don't even have the words to describe how good it was.

This has become the newest craving in our household as well as a pregnancy craving for one of our friends. First off these jibarito smash burgers are incredible, flavorful, gluten free, and light. I love smash burgers and I love jibaritos and the combination is out of this world. It's limited seating on the inside but enough for I think ten people to eat at once. Definitely give them a try, you will not regret it.

A very casual and welcome addition to the neighborhood. Ever since Bianca's closed, we've been missing a great burger and Smash Jibarito steps up to the plate. The menu is condensed and has 3 unique burgers that can be served on a bun or a plantain. I had the Estilo Animal with extra pickles! The house made pickles are delightful! My burger was cooked to order and ready in a few minutes. The animal-style sauce doesn't have the relish or viscosity of the "famous" animal-style sauce but the take is still very delicious. Beware here, this does make for a messier burger especially with a plantain, so load up on napkins or wet wipes. The burger edges were very lacy and crisp. My only suggestion is to toast the inside of the bun more than the outside so it doesn't fall apart from the moisture. I really hope they succeed and expand their menu with specials. It's a nice treat for sure.

A growing fusion food business tucked away in humboldt park! As a burger & jibarito lover, I was excited to try these together. The space is intimate with an open kitchen & only a few high counter seats to eat at but it was popping on a Saturday night right before close. I love smash burgers & adding smashed plantains for the bread was a game changer! I personally liked the Ogilla style because the sweet aioli with the fried onions felt like a new burger classic. Both the animal sauce & sweet aioli were delicious and loved seeing the chefs make it on the spot. The papitas were very thin & addicting. The oil its fried in captures the taste well but does leave you wishing it was more filling? Not sure if thicker cut would make a difference but definitely want to try the loaded version! We had sometime to talk to the staff as they closed up shop & loved to see how proud they were of their growth. First starting off at Dessert Hawk bar as a food popup & then being able to have their own store front. Definitely a cool global fusion flavor spot to checkout!

So excited to welcome a new dining spot to the neighborhood! The smash jibarito is a perfect combination of flavors (and also tastes great on a regular bun too).

Smash Jibarito - Chicago, IL: The Jibarito That Just Ended All Other Sandwiches I didn't know perfection could fit between two crispy plantains until I met Smash Jibarito. This isn't a regular jibarito; this is a love letter written in smashed beef. The patty is fresh, never-frozen, hand-formed Prime beef, griddled hard until the edges turn into lacy, caramelized crunch while the center stays impossibly juicy and rosy. That perfect Maillard crust carries a deep, rich beef flavor that hits you like a hug from your Puerto Rican abuela who also happens to be a Michelin-starred. Then the magic: sweet, golden-fried plantains replace the bread, giving you that incredible sweet-salty dance that only a true jibarito can deliver. Garlic mayo, melted American cheese, crisp lettuce, tomato, and grilled onions all melt together into a glorious, dripping masterpiece. Every bite is the exact balance of sweet/savory you dream about at 2 a.m. Quality is obsessive here: plantains pressed fresh to order, beef you can taste was ground that morning, produce that actually crunches. Nothing frozen, nothing lazy. The staff? Pure sunshine. They greet you like you're family, talk you through the menu with genuine excitement, and hand you your tray with the biggest smiles in Logan Square. You can feel they love what they do, and it shows in every single detail. Smash Jibarito didn't just make a sandwich; they created a new addiction. I'm already planning tomorrow's lunch... and maybe dinner. Five stars is an insult. This place is legendary. Get in line early and prepare to have your mind (and taste buds) absolutely blown.

We were repping our school today at a Puerto Rican festival with on Division and we were literally across the street from Smash Jibarito. You can't be that close and not indulge. They have a small store front. There is limited counter seating inside but they did have standing tabletops outside. The cashier was very friendly and patient as I put in a fairly large order. The food was prepared fresh and it was amazing. I love that they offer plantain and regular hamburger buns. They also have vegetarian options. I got the O'Gilla on plantain buns and my son got the animal style with regular buns. Felt like that one video...give me like 16 of those and I'll tear em up live on air. lol. These smash burgers are legit. You have to try this place out if you haven't already. They're serving up straight fye

New neighborhood favorite. One of the best smash burgers I've ever tasted. The plantain bun is great. Loaded ruffle-style chips are super tasty. This variation on a "traditional" burger and fries can't be missed. A++. Also, nice service and an inviting atmosphere. It's busy every time I pass -- glad ppl are supporting.

Stopped in tonight for the first time. We got the double aye el amor with plantain and the double estilo animal on a bun. Both were delicious. We also got loaded chips which were good, And I like that they pack the toppings separately so they don't get soggy. The cheese sauce was yum. Will be ordering again in the future!!

New store location, gotta try the "plantain bun" on your burger! The menu is just from their grand opening weekend, I'm sure it will expand soon. They used to be in West Town, recommended by a friend that tried their food at a festival and everything we tried was great!

The beans and rice complimented the skirt steak so well. The chimichurri added this amazing fresh tanginess to every bite. I didn't need to add any extra sauce or anything to my meal. My boyfriend ordered a steak jarbarrito with no cheese. They got the order wrong and had cheese on it, they took it back and pulled the cheese off of it. They did not remake it unfortunately. Making the best out of it he still enjoyed his jarbarito. His only qualm was that the plantain buns were not even on both sides. The ratio of meat to bun is extensive. But It looked and smelled so good! We also ordered passionfruit juice, I don't suggest to order that because it's the blue can juice from the market. It is not natural passionfruit juice. Our waiter was not the best. They do have a lady server in there. We wish we had her because she was very tentative and did end up helping our server out. Ambience was very clean. Let me tell you. THIS WAS THE BEST THING I ATE when I was in Chicago…read more I knew I had to visit Pilsen while visiting Chicago for the first time. Coming from the West Coast, we mainly have Mexican, Guatemalan, or El Salvadorean food. Muy rico, tried and true. But Puerto Rican is more rare. So when I saw those bright and beautiful PR flags out by the front entrance, and an almost full-house at 2pm in the afternoon, I knew I had to check Jibarito Shop out. I knew I had to get a jibarito because of the namesake. I love that there's a half and a full sandwich option. I was here solo, so I happily ordered the half option...but could've easily given into eating a full order. A jibarito is scrumptious, fried plantains as the "buns" or "bread" with the meat of your choice, and side of flavorful yellow rice and beans. I went with bistec. You're handed a number and wait for your food to be delivered to your table. The first bite blew my friggin' mind. Flavor, fat, and WOW. As someone who loves all fries, having that crunch and oil from the crispy plantains was gluttonous. Rice was so good, I was licking the paper bowl. Atmosphere feels homey and open, and there's lots of table options but they fill up quick because of how popular they are. Good for families but smaller groups. Restrooms are clean and single-stall. Service is so friendly and efficient. Shoutout to the magic hands who blessed us with delicious meals. I am still dreaming of what I ate at Jibarito Shop. Please come to California!

Boy, did the hype not disappoint at The Jibarito Stop. LOGISTICS As a tourist staying downtown near Millennium Park, this was easy to get to via the Pink Loop CTA line. The shop is super close to the stop and they have a good amount of seating indoors, though larger groups may struggle with getting seats together. You order at the front, but they will bring your food to the table. Drinking water is available for free. FOOD True to its name... they have Jibaritos here, which are Puerto Rican sandwiches where fried plantain are used instead of bread with a protein choice. The name also seems specific to Chicago as they are not part of typical Puerto Rican cuisine, but nonetheless they are DELICIOUS. All Jibarito options come with the choice of rice (red beans and rice or yellow rice). They also come in a "full" and "half size"... if I'm being honest the "full size" is really just two separate "half size" sandwiches. A half sandwich is plenty with a lot of protein. If you can share with someone else and order a "full" jibarito, it should still come as 2 separate sandwiches and then you have room to try another time in the menu. Steak Jibarito (Full Portion) w/ Yellow Rice: This was my favorite thing I ate during my Chicago visit, it was a good balance of sweet and savory. The steak is thinly sliced, not too chewy, and goes well with the creamy garlic sauce they put on it. The greens also made it refreshing. The plantains are also thin with a little crisp and chew and add a little bit of sweetness. However you need to really grab onto the sandwich with both hands to ensure it doesn't fall apart. Yellow rice was also really good with some beans in it for extra protein. I think it's cooked with a broth since it was flavorful on its own. Fritter Sampler: This was a great mix of fried goodies to taste. First the dough on the empanadas was light and crisp in texture. Fillings were generous on all of them - very flavorful with a variety of spices. My favorite was the shrimp one that had a bit of kick, and I think it was filled with either pumpkin/squash or a potato? Although it came with one of each, every fritter was really big and easily shareable between 2 people. I struggled to finish my half, especially with that large potato ball filled ground beef. Fritters also came with 2 sauces... an orange-ish spicy sauce and cilanto cirtus salsa that was delicious. Be sure to pour them onto the fritters as you eat them! OVERALL Great food for the price and portions! My partner and I were stuffed between the fritter sampler and full size portion of Jibarito. I am really happy I ventured out of the main downtown area to check this place out. As a tourist and first timer when it came to Puerto Rican food... this place was amazing! Jibaritos have become my new food obsession and I will be planning on coming back for more next time I'm in Chicago. Skip the hot dogs and pizzas, do not sleep on Puerto Rican food and The Jibarito Stop delivers on flavor!
