I like this lil spot.. I was just driving pass hungry one day and decided to stop in. Kinda small location but they make the best of it.. i ordered tostones which are fried plantains and fried pork belly...which is exactly what it sounds like. I was a huge fan of the tostones, it was crispy and crunchy and fried to perfection. They put tooo much garlic oil on mines but still edible. I was not a huge fan of the fried pork belly.. it was like I liked it bc I was hungry but I didn't like it enough to come back and order it again.. I think it was the seasoning and it was overly salty for me... besides that it was cooked to perfection. Maybe I need to come back and try something else on the menu but for now it's not a place I would rush back to and eat at.. I'm sorry I hate being mean but I have to be honest. read more

Was looking for Puerto Rican food and came upon the reviews of El Mofonguito. Parking is a little tough but we came early and were able to find street parking. We were greeted with a smile and guided to choose our own table. A basket of bread and butter was brought over promptly. I ordered appetizers, tostones rellenos de lechón and carne frita. They came out at the same time as the entrees. It only took about 10 minutes! We ordered a volcan with steak in red sauce (mofongo relleno de bistec en salsa), breaded chicken breast and lechón with arroz con gandules. The food was spectacular! Everything was very well seasoned and reminded me of home (born and raised in PR, moved here as an adult). I would definitely recommend that anyone come here for authentic Puerto Rican food. Be mindful that they are very generous with their portion sizes. We ended up taking about half of it home. There are worse problems one can have. :-) read more

Very little air conditioning and not a lot of ambience. Arroz con gandules was very flavorful and the jibarito was delicious. We got lots of the frituras and a third of them did not taste fresh. Even the empanada wasn't good. The fish was too fishy for me. The plantains were amazing and fresh. The prices cannot be beat. read more

Had a bistec jibarito and a chicken empanada, both were absolutely delicious. The service was also awesome, the gentleman at the counter was super attentive and even brought out bread and butter and different sauces for us to try. For the uninitiated, a jibarito is a Puerto Rican sandwich where instead of bread, there are flattened fried plantains. There's lettuce, tomato, and garlic butter too. You can get it with steak, pork, fried chicken, shrimp, and octopus. It's definitely on the greasy side but oh so satisfying! The chicken empanada was also really good. I had a steak jibarito. It was delicious the steak chewable, well seasoned melted in my mouth. The Puerto Rican rice fluffy goodness. Great service... she told me 15 minutes, it was ready in 10 minutes. I didn't have time to sit down, but you can tell it's a local spot that the neighborhood supports. I've been wanting to try this place for a while; I love a good jibarito and this is one of the closest places to our house. I called in my order, so I can't comment much on the interior. It's not huge, but there was a man there playing live music. My order was ready and well packed when I arrived. I ordered the jibarito with shrimp and garlic. To be honest, it was good, but not my favorite jibarito. The flavors were good, but the shrimp must have been marinating in a garlic oil because the whole bottom of my sandwich was swimming in oil and the thing fell completely apart the moment I picked it up. I ended up eating it with a fork. As garlic shrimp dish, I give it high marks. As a sandwich, less so and anm glad they provided plenty of napkins. They have plenty of other dishes and next time, I'd probably opt for something else. They don't have a website, but deliver through the major places. read more

What can I say - most puerto Rican restaurants were closed on Mondays but they were open & my sis who is flying back to L.A. wanted our food. This place did not disappoint at all. 2 cream coffee 1 negro coffee for me Mofungo fried carnitas was so Amazing the pork was so crispy just the way I always dreamed about. The mofungo had shredded meat in mine so good. Came with a lil salad & some broth to cleanse the palate or dip my crispy pieces of pork in. My sister ordered the pasteles plate & the rice & beans was so amazing as well as the pasteles filling!! So many childhood memories from my friends inviting me over for this food.
