It's funny to think that Tacotlán and La Birrieria exist about 6 minutes apart from each other. If you love quesabirria, I HIGHLY recommend trying either of these places. I discovered La Birrieria because I didn't want to grow weary of Tacotlán. It had also made Chicago's Infatuation list so I knew there had to be something worth trying on the menu. Please know that if you are commuting in, there is parking, but the lot can fill up. I ordered the 3 Quesabirria with consomé plate. I visited the establishment around when they open so I was able to grab any of the open booths available. I decided to pair a mandarin Jarrito and side of rice with this plate; the food arrived pretty quickly, I don't remember waiting long. It was made fresh to order, the consomé--normally the sauce or broth the beef or goat is cooked in--was very flavorful. It was tangy and developed a punch after the addition of the provided onions and cilantro. Each quesabirria was filled perfectly with tender goat meat and oaxacan cheese. They tasted wonderful on their own, and even better when dipped in the consomé. I could taste the chiles, garlic, and zest of lime, all a wonderful combo in my mouth. I didn't care too much for the rice, it tasted like it needed a touch more seasoning. The chips and salsa also weren't my favorite--the salsa couldn't bear the weight of the chips (I'm not a fan of thin chips) and the salsa on its own tasted like a salsa negra, a bit fire roasted, which isn't the salsa I normally enjoy, but you might! Came on a Monday it was pretty empty. We quickly grabbed a booth and we're able to place our order. Didn't take long, but it was so quiet lol i felt like I needed to whisper to my friend. Well this is my first time I discovered this Mexican restaurant along the way from walking to Walmart and so am at the end of my Seattle Suttons diet. Anyways it looked like a new restaurant passing by so I decided to make a cheat day. The salsa and chips were delicious. The guacamole was very delicious but on the sweet and bland mixed side with a fresh squeeze of the lime they added. They added some radish as a garnish and it tasted and looks fresh and hopefully healthy. I ended up ordering the chicken taco dinner in which was decently delicious with fresh cilantro and lime. Ambiance was informal but clean. Service was good in regards to the servers attention but I can see they were busy thus 4 stars and explanation of certain portion of the dishes they had on their menu. Finished with a dessert called Jericaya which is a Mexican version of leche flan. It is burnt afterwards on the surface but sweet and delicious but not too syrupy or caramel syrup like. I dropped my Jeep off up the street for repairs and saw this place and walked down here to wait on my ride. I ordered the quesabirriera tacos which came in an order of 3 goat tacos, I dined in. Service was quick and pleasant the establishment was clean too! My food came out and I noticed the broth didn't have any seasonings (no onions/cilantro), nor did the tacos. Most tender and flavorful beef chunks, and the consumme was also great for dipping in tacos - you can tell these were cooked for hours until all flavors were combined perfectly. Birria comes with homemade tortillas - you can't get any better than that. We've had great experiences and we'll be back again for sure. Just a few suggestions for management from a family: 1. Have booster seats for kids to sit more comfortably in a booth; 2. Stands for car seats would be nice, too, as we have to be in one of the only booths that moves to fit the car seat in and tables aren't an option for us as we don't want to put our baby on the floor while we're eating (just personal preference); 3. I found out about this place from TikTok so I was excited to take my wife and kids there since they love birrieria tacos. Got there the place is nice on the inside we ordered got our food and the tacos had barely any meat don't get me wrong they where good the little we had. Once we where done and I went to pay my bill 92$ WTH I understand food is pricey and of course I knew I was looking to pay maybe about 50 or even 60 bucks but 92 never again plus they charge to use your card on top of that btw I was never told they would be a card fee had I known I would have used cash. Maybe I came on a night the B team was running the show or the cook was sick or something but my experience sucked. The building looks cool and they played some good music but that's mostly it for the positives. Our server obviously spoke broken English, which is no problem, I speak a little Spanish and was trying to work over the language barrier but mid sentence she gave up and had someone else came over. Our second server was nice and quick but blatantly lied about the salsa, saying the one was the spicier one when the other one was way more so. The salsa wouldn't even help the food, our quesabirria were slimy flavorless greasy mush. I can't even say it was bad because there was just absolutely no flavor at all. I have no words to even describe it it was unreal. I was chewing and swallowing what tasted like nothing. My boyfriend told me before moving to Chicago that the city had a lot of amazing food... and three times more horrible bad food. This place would definitely fall into the later category because after mediocre service and overpriced slop there was much left to be desired.
