I was so happy to have breakfast here while my friend and I were in town on a girls trip. The bus boy/host was so talkative and fun to have a conversation with! Shout out to him for the hospitality and ideas for stuff to do on our trip! I was so surprised that the veggie patties were cooked just right and the fruit was so fresh and delicious! read more

We came here several years ago ( during pandemic) they had their patio open and we enjoyed it a lot; so we came back this time and unfortunately the experience was not the same. The burger with fried plantains sound good on paper BUT is impossible to eat, also it lacks flavor overall. I asked for some mayo and they ONLY carry Chipotle mayo which is weird ( I'm sensitive to capsaicin) but also if a kid goes there are no sauce options for them either. Service was SO slow but granted, there was only a lady in the kitchen ( who by the way never wore gloves) which is a huge no no in the kitchen The worst things were the dessert trio ( lacking flavor and clearly made with old bread) We maybe will give this place another try but it'll be a while sadly read more

The Avocado Jibarito was so good! As a vegetarian, this was the perfect adventurous little meal. We came here twice during our trip to Chicago. It gets very packed on the weekends and seating is limited, but they're also very accommodating and I can see they care about their customers. I opted for the yucca fries the first time but skipped the second. Definitely try it with the regular fries because they were soo good - I think they cut them there themselves. read more

We went to Caribella since we wanted to go into the city to try something new and to go search for loose leaf teas. We stumbled on Caribella since it was near spots we wanted to do our errands at. We were delighted by their customer service and delicious food. Items we got: Caribella Skillet: 8.5/10, the plantains were a great addition to the skillet and it was the first time we had it like that. The seasonings that were adding were flavorful. Caribella 2 eggs any style: 7/10 my eggs I requested over easy. It was a lot rarer than I wanted the whites at the bottom were still raw and runny. The house potatoes were amazing, perfect texture and crunch. I love that they had sour dough toast as an option. The sausage links were good pairings as well. Matcha latte (hot): 8/10 great once I asked for additional simple syrup (I personally like it sweeter) They offered us some salsa to pair with the food and their salsa is a great delight for both the skillet and the eggs. Their salsa packed good flavors without being overly spicy for us. We ended up getting their 8oz bottle for $6. The ambiance is good as well for a date spot if you're in town. They open at 8am and we got in around 8:05 so it was not too busy yet for a Sunday morning. I would for sure recommend trying their skillet since the plantains were really good!! read more

Small but quaint. Was greeted immediately. My full party wasn't there yet, so while they couldn't let us sit at a 5-top yet, they sat us at a 2-top until they arrived. Thankfully, a 5-top was open when my other party guests arrived, but that wasn't always the case later since they get pretty busy. Service was friendly and there were plenty of delicious food options to choose from. I got the cubano skillet and my friend got the cubano sandwich sub bread for lettuce wrap (loved this bc not all places accommodate a simple lettuce request like this!). Another got banana pancakes, and one got the French toast platter - which looked AMAZING Drinks were delicious with juices/nectars to choose from along with lattes. My biggest pet peeve in my time in Chicago was the bill splitting, but at this point we had gotten used to it. I paid the tab and had everyone Zelle me. Hey, at least I get my credit card points up, but not looking forward to the credit card payment due at the beginning of next month Stop by here if you're in the area! read more

So many good things to say about this place. The food is amazing. I had the yuca pulled pork. The pork is soft and shredded and had cheese. Then it had 2 perfect sunny side up eggs on top of the pulled pork and under the pulled pork it had cubed fried yuca. Everything was topped off with some avocado. The location is clean we went around 10am and there wasn't many people there and I could park right in front of the restaurant. Staff was friendly. My wife was working so they gave her the wifi password. I had an iced coquito latte. It was a bit on the sweet side but I don't blame them for that coquito is supposed to be sweet. I would go back and order a different coffee. But the food is fantastic. It's not my first time there but every time I go there I'm shocked with how good the food is. read more

If there's a jibarito burger on the menu I'm ordering it. Caribella has a breakfast jibarito burger now! I stopped in on Thursday morning with my husband for breakfast. I had the breakfast jibarito and a coquito latte. The latte is dangerously delicious. It is slightly sweeter than I typically like my coffee drinks but it is coquito after all. The jibarito burger was very filling. It came with a thick patty, fried egg, several strips of thick bacon, and cheese. There was crispy potatoes on the side. They have a really tasty homemade hot sauce that goes well with the burger and potatoes. Great food! read more

Seriously soooo good! I haven't been to a Caribbean restaurant before, but this place did not disappoint! It's a narrow diner feel with excellent service and lots of smiles. Immediately felt welcomed upon arrival and were seated immediately even though it was quite busy. The server checked in on us frequently. We started with some delicious hot chocolate in huge cups that were rich and creamy. My friend got the pancakes, and I got the steak sandwich and it was perfection. We got our food pretty quickly after ordering and left with to go boxes because the portions were HUGE. Would highly recommend this gem to anyone in need of a yummy brunch spot! read more

Lunch here was great. The prices, quality and service were a solid 4.5 stars. We came at 1pm and there was a lot of seating available. We were promptly greeted with a wonderful aroma food and a warm smile. We ordered fresh juices to go with our meal. I got passionfruit/mango and my husband got guava juice. We ended up switching as the guava was too much for him. For food we grabbed lunch even though breakfast options looked divine. I ordered the Jibaritos Steak Sandwich (House seasoned steak topped with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo) with side of traditional Arroz con Gandules. I was throughly pleased with my selection. My husband ordered the Caribella Toston Fire Burger (Grilled angus beef patty topped with bacon, grilled onions, grilled pineapple, cheese, lettuce & tomato served between plantains with chipotle mayo). He enjoyed his burger and said it was packed with flavor. Lastly we ordered some coconut shrimp. The shrimp was Deep fried lightly breaded in coconut and served with mango habanero sauce. It had potential but it was undercooked as some batter was undone. We tried to send back or return and instead they put 3 of them back into the deep fryer. Slight communication error but no biggie. So if you order them ask for them to be fried hard. I would come back here. I wanna try the breakfast and order that steak sandwich again. read more

We loved the ambiance and the friendly service of this cute neighborhood cafe! It was also amazing that there was plenty of free parallel street parking in the neighborhood which is always a plus in Chicago. We ordered the Coquito latte (10/10), the Caribella skillet (8/10) - this was yummy and it was an interesting twist to see that instead of potatoes, the starch base was made of savory plantains, as well as the Guava French toast (7/10) which were slightly sweet and slightly tart with a nice guava flavor that really comes through. read more

I am a southsider who took a friend here for her birthday a month ago. The guava jibarito was so good that I couldn't stop thinking about it. So when I told my friend I would pick her up for a funeral, I suggested we eat here again afterwards. I got that amazing jibarito again. She got pork skillet and let me have a bite. It was also insanely delicious. This time I had a black coffee which I liked much better than the coquito which was much too sweet to me. We lucked out and got Miguel as our server again. He actually remembered us. I think we are going to try and come once a month and work our way through the menu because it is worth driving to from the southside, no bs. Thanks for the great food and service! read more

This is our third time here - in almost as many months! The food is fabulous. I love the Isla and my rather particular husband is always extremely happy with his omelet. The specialty coquito coffee drink is so worth having. We also have really enjoyed the coquito French toast. It can get busy on the weekend so there can be a wait but so worth it. I did just learn that they are BYOB. Mom POV: they have been very welcoming of our baby, even with the stroller (we often walk over while visiting the area). We are not in the high chair stage yet but they do have them. I have not seen a changing table. Luckily I have not needed it while there as of yet. I could make it work in one of the benches by the bathroom if I really needed to. It has worked out ok for us with our little guy. read more

SUCH A CUTE BRUNCH PLACE!! went to catch up with a friend and was pretty busy on a Sunday morning but not busy enough for a wait at 11am. Tried both the Guava French Toast and the Caribella Skillet which both had lots of flavor! Portions were decently large but the highlight was the coquito latte!! amazing flavor and such cute presentation in the mugs :) Would come back for the latte and stay for the food. The service was decent and did not feel rushed while eating but food did take a bit of time to arrive even taking into account their busyness. Parking available on side streets for free! read more

This was my first time here and was pleasantly surprised when I arrived around 10:30 and did not have to wait to be seated on a Saturday morning. However, it did fill right up after being seated. Everything on the menu looked amazing and I'll definitely be back to try everything else. The guava nectar was too good! The caribella skilled was good, but could've used some hot sauce of some sort- I did like how they used plantains instead of potatoes. The protein lovers skillet was packed full of several proteins and veggies! The pancakes were okay in my opinion, fluffy but not very flavorful. The wait for food was not too long, but a bit longer due to the space being full of customers. The prices are very affordable too! I would definitely recommend this spot and will be back! read more

My friends and I went here because one of us lives by here and I'd been eyeing this place for a while. I am so glad we got here for brunch - we got there around 12:30pm on a weekend and was happy to be immediately seated despite being a group of 5. We went at a great time too because by the time we left every table was taken and a few folks were waiting. I definitely love to see this neighborhood spot thriving and the place is cute - natural light and beach paintings. Food - I got the sorullitos and coquito french toast. Everybody Loved the sorullitos including myself and they are personally some of the best I've had in the city but I've only had them a handful of times. Even my friends who don't like corn dough and corn batter (think corn dogs for example) really enjoyed eating this, including a picky vegetarian. I would absolutely go back here and order the sorullitos again. The coquito french toast was also yummy - sweet but not overwhelmingly so. We got a kids order of guava pancakes to share and that was the perfect amount. I'm not sure if I'd go with sweet mains next time. My friends got the Caribbean chicken skillet, breakfast burger, and the Caribella skillet. They liked what they got and I also thought the Caribbean chicken skillet was yummy. read more

I love it here. I seem to always come in the winter and it's probably because the atmosphere is exactly what you need when the Chicago weather has you down - it's tropical! I'll preface this by saying we got delivery so it was warm but not fresh on the table. Honestly I was a little underwhelmed by Caribella. Given the menu I was super excited to try it. I went with the Caribella skillet and kids size guava pancakes (which was actually three decent sized pancakes!). My husband got the chorizo skillet. He really enjoyed the chorizo meat but the rest of his skillet he said was underwhelming. My skillet was a bust... the plaintains were dry and not cooked properly. I have never had plaintains like that from a South American restaurant... ever. Very unappetizing. The chicken sausage was the consistency of a hot dog, it was strange. Def wouldn't get that again. The guava pancakes were decent, I liked the guava sauce, wish they gave me more of it bc it was a tiny container but I would order them again. read more

Absolutely. Amazing. Food. I have been here twice now. The first time I ordered the caribella skillet with sweet plantains. I have never had a skillet with plantains and it was delicious! It was topped with avocados and Turkey ham. The second time I ordered the Cubano sandwich which was made with smoked pulled pork. BOTH DISHES WERE VERY UNIQUE AND FLAVORFUL.
