Jerky Jerk is THE SPOT! We wanted something better than stadium food before the Bulls game. And the three of us love Jamaican food, specifically, jerk chicken and curry goat. So as soon as Jerky Jerk showed up on my Yelp search, I knew my search had ended, and that we found our pre-game dinner spot. Jerky Jerk blew my expectations out of the water. I'm a Chicago native, but I live in LA, where I'm lucky to be surrounded by many delicious Jamaican food spots. But Jerky Jerk has the best jerk chicken I've ever had. When I say that the smoky, slightly sweet, tender, fall-of-the-bone experience hit the spot, I mean that it HIT THE SPOT! Even the rice & peas and cabbage were cooked and spiced to perfection. All three of us devoured our plates in about ten minutes. I also love the colorful and lively Chicago sports murals that fill each wall, as well as the hospitable and vibrant service from the owners. I was craving plantains so we ordered delivery, and OMG this is probably one of the best chicken and candied yams I've ever had! The chicken was grilled to perfection! The meat was juicy, the seasoning was delicious and the sauce that came with it was tangy, sweet and wasn't too spicy. But those candied yams OMG! They weren't overly sweet that it hurts your throat but just the right amount to satisfy your sweet tooth! They must have added some fruit like pineapple because it added a little tangy kick that balances so well with the sweetness and added another dimension! Best jerk chicken I've had in Chicago thus far. I've tried some places here and there. I even had more then 18 places in south Florida, but this here was the truth! I have been a customer at this location for years, and I am so disappointed. I placed an order for 3 dinners through their website for delivery a few months back. The order showed as delivered, but I never received it, so they had to resend it. Fine, at least I eventually got my food. The next time I ordered, which was like a month or so ago, they only gave the driver part of our order, and we had to send someone to pick up the rest. Then when we finally got everything, the oxtails were mostly fat. They cost too much for that. Fast forward to today, I placed an order yesterday to be delivered today, and once again it showed as delivered but never came. At this point, I'm done. Jerky Jerk is a Foodies paradise! The curry goat dinner is my absolute favorite! When paired with the handmade eggrolls, the oxtail dinner is comparable to none. I had a beef patty that was made fresh, which was delicious And I had the two lunch specials. I didn't eat 2 one was for later, but I got the fried jerk wings with the sauce, which were absolutely delicious that sauce. It was spicy and sweet at the same time. It was very good. I had my sauce put on the side cause I wasn't sure about the sauce, but it did not disappoint and then I just tested out my half dark with my rice and peas and gravy v good. Finally tried this establishment during lunch for take out and I was impressed with the amount of food that came for ~$20 meal. Ordering there and receiving the takeout was pretty quick, only had to wait around 20 minutes. Service was friendly and there were other patrons ordering takeout as well. Not sure I recommend dining in (at least around lunchtime) as it was very smoky inside (must be really good jerk chicken!). I got 2 entree and 2 side meal (grilled jerky jerk chicken, mr brown stew chicken, Mac n cheese, rice and peas). It was enough for me to split into 2 meals also! The Jerk Chicken was decent. Nice smoke and pretty good jerk flavor. But when you add the sauce!!! It definitely elevates the flavor. 5/10 without the sauce 7.3/10 with the sauce. The fried jerk chicken was ok. Once again the sauce made the difference. It comes with the jerk sauce on it. 6/10. The rice & peas wasn't authentic and I didn't enjoy the flavor 1/10. The Mac & Cheese taste as if it had some garlic in it. I'm a salt & pepper person on mac & cheese, Simple. 3/10 my wife had the veggie Jerk wrap. I didn't taste it but she didn't even eat half.
