Alcapurria- hit or miss but when it hits it hits! Papa relleno- never disappoints always so yummy great meat to potato ratio. Relaxed counter-service spot with huge portions. The Alcapurria (6.5/10) had a thin, crispy exterior with a moist pork-filled center, but was pretty oily. The Beef Pastelillo (6.5/10) had good seasoning and flavor, but seemed like it had been sitting for a while, so the crust wasn't as crispy as I wanted. The Rellenos (7.5/10) had a slightly crisp exterior with a soft potato shell. The beef was a little dry, but still delicious and satisfying. The Pasteles (5/10) weren't really for me. The tamale itself was fine, but I didn't love the pieces of pork inside. The Carne Frita (4/10) was way too dry and chewy, though I liked the seasoning. Very oily, especially around the skin but expected. The Bistec Jibarito (6/10) was my first time trying a jibarito. The plantain was almost rubbery and overall it was pretty mid. The Mofongo Lechón (6.5/10) had a great texture, but way too much garlic for me. Dipping it in the caldo de res made it much better though. The lechón was juicy on the bottom but dry on top. Jibaritos may be a Puertorrican dish but they were born right here in Chicago, massive portions for $9.20 plus a side of rice (more like a tray of rice) for $4.25 and alcapurrias at $2 a pop, where else can you find prices like that especially in this economy lol? There is a separate location for take out and dine in orders but they are located very close to one another so it shouldn't be a problem navigating. We got seated pretty quickly and the staff were super nice. They gave us some bread and butter while we waited for our food. We got the bistek (steak) jiberito and it was delicious. The fried plantains were so good and the garlic smothered on top of it added a nice punch. The meat inside was soft was juicy. The lettuce and onions in the sandwich really tied it all together. I think I need a separate paragraph for the sauce that came with the jiberito. It was spicy in all the right ways and we were obsessed with it. For dessert, we got their Guava Quesitos. They were good but a little too sweet for my preference. I contemplated moving to Chicago just to eat here more often. read more

I've never had a jibaritos before. Never even heard of it. But I was introduced to this place by a friend and I. AM. HOOKED. I'll be back and I plan to bring friends here too. Apparently, according to help, Jibaritos are sandwiches originating from Chicago's puerto rico community. We ordered a jibaritos (pulpo y camarones - octopus and shrimp). The bread is a deep fried plantain, which at first didn't sound that appetizing to me, but it was perfect. Inside is mayo, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and lots of garlic. The garlic was very strong in this, which I loved. But beware (or maybe ask for less if you're not a garlic fan). The octopus was good, but it wasn't really necessary for me. But the shrimp was really good (way beyond what I expected it to be). Fresh, great texture, really tasty. I'm definitely going to be coming back to get another shrimp jibaritos next time (and try more). The sandwiches are HUGE by the way. We only ate this as a snack, so I can't say how much I'd normally be able to eat. But it was so good, that next time, I am going to order one for myself. Thank you Jibaritos y Mas. My boyfriend ordered a steak jarbarrito with no cheese. They got the order wrong and had cheese on it, they took it back and pulled the cheese off of it. They did not remake it unfortunately. Making the best out of it he still enjoyed his jarbarito. His only qualm was that the plantain buns were not even on both sides. The ratio of meat to bun is extensive. But It looked and smelled so good! We also ordered passionfruit juice, I don't suggest to order that because it's the blue can juice from the market. It is not natural passionfruit juice. Our waiter was not the best. They do have a lady server in there. We wish we had her because she was very tentative and did end up helping our server out. Ambience was very clean. We sat right near the door next to two other pairs of people, which felt cramped but I was glad we got seated right away. I also can't believe it took me so long to write this review, seeing as I visited Jibaritos y Mas late last summer. For years, I was a Papas Cache y Sabroso devotee and still love it. I later discovered Jibarito Stop in Pilsen, which I adore. And then, this place popped up on my jibarito search on a Sunday, when my other two places were closed. My daughter and I decided to hit up this place on an early Sunday evening to grab to-go dinners, but quickly found out there was a sit-down restaurant next door. Although the place was jam-packed and jumpin with a lot of families having Sunday dinner, we were quickly seated at the first available table. The runners immediately delivered water and table settings and shortly thereafter, our friendly server came over and took our orders. Typically I would get a jibarito, but this day I went with the Mofongo while my daughter ordered the steak jibarito and we both had the refreshing parchas (passionfruit punch). Our food was delivered promptly and we dug in. Yes, yes and more yes. Everything was so delicious and perfectly seasoned and the portions were healthy. We had food to take home and enjoy later. The best part of family-style restaurants is the amazing food, the large portions, affordable price tags and amazing service. These type of restaurants value their customers and go out of their way to provide great customer service. Who wouldn't want to return? This is how they stay in business for so long. Well today I went to this location cuz it was closer to after I left work and had a craving for bistek. It seems that the portions here are larger than the one in Harlem and Belmont. Ambience was more modern now and doesn't look like a hole in the wall service was decently friendly. My only thing despite that I like potato balls or rellenos de Papa. I was a little disappointed because it looked like it was too deep fried. It was black like it was burnt. I usually go there with my family (5 of us). I ordered a lot of food for myself for the weekend. The beans were a bit salty. Manager said he had people check it and he said they weren't. I also ordered 2 flans. Did not have the caramelized sugar on top, so it had no flavor, very bland. The manager said , sometimes they put the sugar on top and sometimes they don't. They are not consistent with their food. So we will not be going there any more. He said there wasn't anything he could do. Oh well. Your loss read more

Absolutely amazing! I ordered the bistec jibarito, the portion is huge, the meat is tender, but the most amazing part is the plantain with the garlic on top. The flavour is so distinct, and I can still feel it couple hours later. I can't say how much I enjoyed the food. One side of shop is for take out and the other side is for dine in. Take out opens early, and usually online information shows the opening time of the take out, not the dining area. So if you want to sit down, make sure to come closer to noon time to avoid disappointment. There are many local people come to purchase food, they are busy but the service is very fast.
