We, like many other reviewers, have been coming here for years. This is the closest we get to our Bolivian Sunday family meals. The chicken is delicious, the sides are good, and the people are very nice. read more

Excellent food the chicken is flavorfull, the pesto salad is mouthwatering. Green havenero sauce rocks. Ooo black beans are perfect. My new chicken restaurant read more

Very bland, unseasoned and bad rotisserie chicken. Not good at all. The mashed potatoes were horrible, with no gravy and large chunks of raw potato. The tortilla were overly heated and and subsequently stuck to each other, rendering them useless due to all the holes. The only item that was tasty was the pasta. Not a good experience at all and will avoid this place in the future. read more

Man I have been a customer for over 15 years and the past year this restaurant has really depleted . Having a new owner really messed with things , making cheap cuts to lower costs isn't the way to go buddy boy. The atmosphere changed drastically having all these new servers here that are really loud and obnoxious, don't care to check on you at all during your time here. All of the food lacks seasoning. Very upsetting experience. read more

Yucas are so yummyyy, recommend for the side! The service is welcoming and helpful! I like the vibe of the restaurant, small but cozy. read more

I've been once, but I'm already sold. You know that old adage? Go to where the "locals" go? Well, when I went in every single person was Hispanic. Families are together, friends, everyone was speaking Spanish. Seeing as the place is a "Latin American" restaurant, I knew I was going to be in good hands. I ordered a gluttonous half chicken for myself, which comes with two sides but I ordered an additional side. The black beans and rice are great when mixed together. Add a little bit of the pico de gallo and you have an amazing combination. Oh yeah, the chicken. The chicken is fall off the bone tender and juicy. The skin has a great flavor. When you mix in chicken pieces with the aforementioned rice and beans and pico.. wow! This place is right down the street from my apartment. Maybe they'll adopt me. read more

Me and my family have been going here for years we love it. The food has always tasted the same and never changed like most places. Also great prices for a large portion of food! read more

Chicken is good. Little small but it's good. Black beans are good. Green hot sauce is garlicky with excellent heat. Tomato salsa is good. Sweet plantains is good. Quarter chicken is 10.80....tax brings it to 11 something then there's some extra for 40 cents. 12 something for a quarter chicken is good. Priced well considering every meal, no matter how simple nowadays, is 15 to 16 dollars. I noticed if you order rice, they heap it on. I took it to go. Was there for lunch. They're doing well. I will be back. read more

Have come here since I was a kid, never left a review. I just want to this leave this here by saying that this is really authentic Ecuadorian chicken! They have traditional sides and drinks as well. Prices are great and so are the flavors! Please indulge in their food. You won't regret it! read more

Unique and delicious chicken for reasonable price. Need to go back now that lockdowns are over.

This place is super close to me so I find myself here at least once a week to order the special with fried yucca & rice. The chicken is pretty decent & flavorful. I like the salsa they add on the side to dip my yucca in because it has a kick. Staff is always pleasant and pretty fast. read more

Ordered delivery here twice. The chicken is amazing as is the Mediterranean salad. This has become out go-to for chicken!

Good chicken, friendly people and service. Authentic ethnic interior and decor. Something rare in this part of town.

best rotisserie chicken i've ever had in my life. Best beans and best rice as well. OMG I'm a new regular fosho!

the food was amazing, overall so far so good, tho we asked for tortillas, they came late, but also broken and reheated, not what I expected, service was really good, she was so nice and got Orders right, also the prices were really good, what I didn't like was the mashed potatoes, they tasted like tomatoes, and I hate tomatoes, the place was really nice it was decorated, warm the ambiance was amazing not so bad but overall its a 3/5 read more

Mr. Pollo was a pleasant dining spot! After a long and tiring day at work, I decided to try this place out. I am amazed by their huge menu. They have plenty of food options, they have soups, bread, mashed potatoes, chicken meals, fries, homemade dishes, homemade sauces, and many more. They truly have a wide range of food options. Their food was consistently delicious and everything was made to order. I ordered their Chicken, with green sauce and fries on the side. I also got their popular drink. Affordable and reasonable prices of food. Everything was on point. You can literally save a lot of money here even if you want to bring your friends and family. Their service was phenomenal! All of their waiters and waitresses are attentive and accommodating. They are nice and know how to talk properly to their customers. Professional and friendly service. They also maintain their place clean, neat, and organized. The interior has a great atmosphere. They have interesting designs and decorations. Great spot to visit and meet with your friends and relatives. Mr. Pollo is a very convenient spot. I will go back again here soon when I have some free time. I will also recommend this place to all the people I know. Thank you for the wonderful experience! read more

wow this place is amazing...no lie. The place itself is cute with booths and storefront window seating. The menu is small but I have a strong desire to try everything on it. I had the quarter chicken (delicious) with fried yukka (didn't know what to expect...they are amazing! like french fries but way better) and plaintains (i think I'll try the sweet ones next time). Thanks for the recommendations from the other reviewers. Quite friendly people who work there. The woman I ordered from is bilingual so no stress there (i have really got to learn spanish if i'm going to live in this neighborhood). My meal was filling without being heavy and with a jarritos was $7.50. I'm thrilled this place is in my neighborhood. read more

If you are looking for chicken in Avondale, Mr. Pollo is the place to go. Bypass the trendy child and kick it old school here. Be advised that the chicken is not fried, but rotisseried. That should not dissuade you, for the skin is wonderfully crispy, and the meat (even the breast) is very juicy. Additionally, you'll have plenty of sides to choose from; I went with fried plantains and mashed potatoes. The plantains were crispy, and the potatoes were of the smooth whipped variety. Everything was delicious. Two pieces with two sides is a steal at $7, but in the future I'll order more pieces just to ensure that I'm getting enough protein. Indeed, I'm looking forward to ordering a whole chicken, which is under $20. How possible, amirite? The inside is pleasant; no frills, and free of irony. Phil Collins was playing on the speakers while I was waiting. If you enjoy that sort of thing. No cocktails are served here, but if you want a drink after dinner, Square Bar and The Orbit Room await your liver. Additionally, to-go is always an option, and they do deliver. Open up a bottle of rose at home! See how we live in Avondale? Without a care in the world. read more

With a name like Mr. Pollo, it's as good as it can get! I always must order myself the Especial 1/4 South American Roasted Chicken which comes with 2 sides for only $6.95. Uh huh, es cierto; a good sized meal with left overs for just $6.95! Skip Pollo Campero or Pollo Loco because now you can get damn good food for the fast food chain price. As my sides, I always have trouble deciding because there are too many awesome choices like maduros (fried ripe plantains), tostones (green plantain fried chips), fried yucca (yucka/yuca, tomato/tomaato), rice, beans, ay ay ay! If you like to pump up your tastebuds, ask for their special house "salsa verde" or green sauce. It's just perfect! Oh and just a recommendation that there's limited seating because it's mainly a carry-out kinda joint. read more

Family meal: a whole roasted chicken with 3 sides-chicken soup, fried yuca and sweet plantains. Only because I have a basis of which to compare with they get one star rating. Mr. Pollo on Belmont Avenue VERY DISAPPOINTING Roasted chicken was nice and tender BUT only had favor on the skin. The three sides: The chicken soup is water with chicken bouillon with a bit of crumbled white meat chicken. I did like that they added scallions, a bit of celery and carrot. The fried yuca was poorly fried frozen yuca. no crunch with a stale frozen flavor. The sweet plantains were not ripe to be sweet. Sliced thick and fried. This is what you do not do. Fry plantain that is not completely ripe. Use seasoning with MSG. I do not recommend read more

I found this place to be a decent Peruvian chicken joint! The chicken is moist and they have a nice green sauce... and the sides are mostly fried items (French fries, yucca, plantains) and rice and beans. It's good, but not great. read more

Great neighborhood joint for juicy flavorful chicken; fast friendly service too! A good tip yielded a free cup of soup, which was beautifully prepared. That salsa they serve with it is bionic. Do yourself a solid and stop by the next time you are in Avondale... read more

Mr Pollo - Chicken, soup, yucca & Caesar salad - Latin American Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I really can't believe how delicious their rotisserie chicken was, or the "whole chicken". With places like Costco that sell whole rotisserie for ~$4 I didn't think I'd ever want to pay more than that for just chicken but it was the best, most buttery chicken ever. I was so delicious and worth the $13. They cut up the chicken for us as well. We would definitely want to come back here and get it again! read more

On my way home one Sunday night after dropping off a friend, I was enticed by a sign in the window for a $5.99 special, so I stopped in. I specifically referenced the special when ordering, but they rang it up as $7.99 plus tax. I tried to protest, but they played the language-barrier card and in any case seemed to insist that the sign was wrong or that *I* was mistaken. Shrugging shoulders and gestures at the cash register...I should have walked out. But I was really hungry and there were others eating in and waiting, so I stuck it out...for 20 minutes. That seemed too long to wait for what I expected was a neighborhood fast-foodish chicken dinner. When I got my meal home, the chicken was okay, maybe C+/B-, but the sides were bland beyond belief. So that's three strikes and you're out, Mr. Pollo. read more

If you love tasty chicken and tasty size then this is the place. If you want something besides chicken, this is not the place. It's chicken chicken chicken chicken chicken. But it's delicious chicken and probably some of the tastiest chicken you've ever had. The people who run it are very nice and accommodating and they are taking the pandemic seriously. Don't ask for ribs fish beef or any other type of protein because they ain't got it. Enjoy the sides enjoy the sweet potato fries and enjoy the Yucca which is a healthier version of french fries. Delicious and nutritious. I highly recommend trying it. read more

We have been coming to this place for years! We've gotten to know the staff and they are simply amazing, when calling for take out they steady know my voice! We were in the area so I Yelped to see what was decent for lunch. The reviews looked okay but I just thought it was Ehhhh The chicken was bland..they do give you the choice of 2 sides...i had black beans & fried plantains, now that was good. Allow me to add to the chorus of praise for Mr. Pollo! I bike by here every day on my way to and from work and the opportunity has never presented itself to actually stop in. Finally after a miserable day with the CTA, I was able to persuade my wife to let us grab takeout from Mr. Pollo on our way home. It was delicious! The skin's not crispy but you still want to eat it because of the flavor, and the chicken itself is deliciously juicy, even the white meat--the dark meat was just this side (the good side) of greasy. For sides, we got the non-sweet plantains, fried yuca and the black beans. All were tasty, especially when paired with the awesome salsas--the rojo, which was kind of like a saltier, hotter gazpacho, and the verde, which is akin to a chimichurri sauce. The prices may strike one as high, but the side dish portions are quite generous. You can definitely get a few meals out of a whole chicken. Pair with a dry rose! :) read more

Definitely a cute little hole in the wall, I loved the parrots hanging from the ceiling. I got the special: 1/4 chicken with 2 sides (sweet plantains & fries). I thought it was okay. Not bad, but not as awesome as it could have been. I'm disappointed they didn't ask me if I wanted white or dark meat. I'm a dark meat fan and that was not what I got. I thought the soup was bland. The chicken was very tender. I tried my friend's pasta salad and that was very tasty. I give them 3 stars based solely on the guanabana smoothie. OH MY!!! That was the most delicous, light liquado I've ever had. I think i'm addicted. read more

I was sick and thought I would die until I got some amazing chicken soup. It was wholesome, nourishing, hot and very comforting. I'd say "Just like Mom used to make" but my Mom's idea of cooking is opening a can, possibly heating it after, possibly not... And before you ask, yes, Grandma IS Italian but has been coasting on her looks for far, far longer than I've been around... this is the Chicken Soup my perfect Dream Boyfriend would bring me when I'm sick, then he would give me a nice long foot rub. Hairbrushing? Nice. Ahh.... that is the spirit! Pure Fantasy! Highly recommended. read more

This place is straight up my road on Sacramento and Belmont. It was recommended to me, so thought I'd stop by. Very simple menu--individual special, half chicken with sides, full chicken, or full chicken with sides (family special)...From what I can remember, sides are: beans, rice, corn, soup, Caesar salad, plantains, tostones, corn, french fries, mashed potatoes i think...ummm can't remember the rest, but it's a verrrry simple menu. The place was nearly empty, just had one other customer eating solo, placed an order, within 5-10 minutes it was ready to go. The place has nice photographs around the wall of south american spots. The people were polite. ANNNNNNNNND the chicken was delicious, no need to add anything. I bought french bread somewhere else before going home and it made for excellent chicken sandwiches, and I have leftovers! read more

The place is called Mr. Pollo, what do you expect? I finally went inside, and was actually given a menu, even though there was only one entree on the menu: chicken. The question the menu posed was this: Did I want a whole chicken, a half chicken, or the special, a quarter chicken? I'm no fool. I can metabolize with the best of them, but a quarter chicken is a fair amount of food. It was real good, as far as chickens go. Tasted like chicken. Cooked rotisserie style, which in my newly formed opinion, is the way to go. Sides are typical south American- black beans, yucca (potatoe-y root), sweet or fried plantains, etc. This is one of my favorite features of Latin American cuisine. $6.25, the quarter chicken with two sides. Who will argue that this is a good value? They also have fresh fruit drinks, including mango and maracayu. read more
