The food was amazing! The 1/2 chicken meal is great because you can choose any two sides. I got the yuca fries and fried sweet plantains- they were both amazing. The smoothie was a little too bitter for my liking. Service was very friendly but didn't check-in very often because they get pretty swamped with take out orders. There is a lot of seating available. read more

Mr Pollo - Maracuya smoothie with water - Latin American Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

This place has been opened for a long time and it's literally by Fina estampa which is the best pollo a la brasa restaurant in Chicago so they're doing something right to stay in business. I'd say their chicken is good, but nothing out of this world. It lacks a bit more flavor but it is definitely better than an average rotisserie chicken. This is supposed to be pollo a la brasa though which is supposed to be better than rotiseri chicken, Their sides are packed and they have amazing tostones. All of the prices have gone up and honestly unless you get the whole chicken, everything else is pretty pricey now. They also have a new credit card extra percentage charge which makes this place a lot more pricier. Overall, good food but I'd you want the best pollo a la brasa just walk 20 steps next door to Fina estampa. read more

Mr Pollo - a sign on a counter in a restaurant - Latin American Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

My family and I went to Mr. Pollo for dinner on 11/03/2023. After requesting the receipt, we discovered that an 18% gratuity had been added to the bill. The waitress said that it was the restaurant's policy when asked about the mandatory tipping. However, there are no laws that govern how much gratuity should be paid. The restaurant does not have a readable notice, except at the cash register. Apart from the cash register, which indicates that a gratuity is added to the bill without providing a percentage. I had to put on my reading glasses in order to read the little print on the sign. The manager claimed that Square was the one who enforced the required tip. She went on to say that the restaurant's policy is to tack on an 18% gratuity to the total charge. I informed her we were not refusing to pay the bill or leave a tip; we simply wouldn't be paying the 18% gratuity since gratuity is entirely voluntary. And that the customer's right to choose the quantity must be unrestricted. Restaurants don't have the right to deceive their customers, and any agreement must be fully transparent and readily understandable. She then removed the mandatory gratuity and demanded that we pay in cash. When questioned about her demand for cash, she replied that she was powerless to alter Square's required tip. Since I manage a small business and utilize Square for business transactions, I was aware that she was lying. Attempting to put an end to the unpleasant evening, I requested my brother to wait in the restaurant while I went to the nearest bank to get the cash. I asked her to write "Paid in Cash" someplace on the receipt when I returned. I was afraid the manager would call and lie to the police about getting paid. In addition, I gave her a $10.69 tip; given her great service, she should have earned a 20% tip, I thought the amount was more than appropriate given the difficult time they caused my family to experience. I reported them to the BBB it turn out they were not in compliance. read more

If you people in Chicago think this is great South American chicken then you've never had great South American chicken. This chicken was slimy salty garbage. Flavorless except for the massive amount of salt. Blech. read more

The food is always really fresh, perfectly seasoned and very simple but delicious. In a sea of trendy BS, the food is always hot, fresh, juicy and tasty. Also, I have food allergies & never have to worry ordering. Fantastic place to regularly order from. Can't go wrong. read more

I've been going here since I can remember amazing place amazing food nothing but good employees

Expected rotisserie chicken, don't believe it was. Biggest disappointment was the main staple here, the chicken. It was just bland as if "0" flavoring/spices were used. On the plus side, they are generous with sides and they were tasty. Won't be repeating. read more

Food is very good i love the combos. But the servers attitude is sassy on top of that service tip is included at the severs discretion. Our price for two combos kept changing and we finally asked why prices were inconsistent for only two combos for almost $35! the servers then told us they add tip to every order. been coming here for years the management has changed and so has the service for the worse. food is good wish i could say the same about the pricing and servers read more

Best rosstiserie chicken in Chicago by far, the consome is also good and the frijoles negros OMG.

I love the food from here! The Chicken was delicious! Thanks always for the good service!

..been loving Mr.Pollo since the summer when I moved to Chicago. More usually I hit up the Belmont location (logan square) though; perhaps I'll stick to that. The food was delivered timely and the driver was very kind (it was a hellish cold that evening) as he called ahead to tell me he'd bring my food up to the door. Tell me why I ate 90% of my 1/4 chicken special before finding a stringy public hair in my rice... and then another one. (granted I was hunting) f*ck man. some cultures worship the cow, others the duck; for me, don't f*ck with my pollo. and they done f*cked with my pollo! The Belmont location has been great though! yucca fries are just crispy enough, fries are super bomb, and the pollo is damn near delicious....all for like $7, really tho. recent complaint to add on....... EVERY TIME I ever call Mr. Pollo to place an order since the beginning, a female always answers the phone and says she "doesnt understand" (English) when you try to place in a simple order with words that your reading STRAIGHT off THEIR MENU. If you dont understand English, why are you always picking up the phone for people that WILL BE placing their orders in English since this is America and people speak English here. Why has management there never fixed this..... ever ?? Why does it always need to take 5 minutes to place a 15 second order?? I just want to place a simple quick order for food without being given a hard time each and every time......and sometimes due to this not understanding English problem, the order shows up wrong.....they really need someone answering the phone who understands English too from the start...... past compliment a 1/2 year ago ..... WOW!! got the 1/2 chicken dinner with 2 sides for $9.99. the box was jammed packed to the top with food...I was like WOW! A regular person delivered the food though instead of the chicken.:) (see Yelp photos).... read more

The chicken is very delicious, the fries are amazing, not so greasy. If you go get the "tomate de árbol" juice, it's amazing!

Just recently moved to area. The smell of the mr pollo was so amazing i decided to try it. The smell was the only thing that was good. The chicken was under seasoned and the sides were nothing special. read more

Expecting great chicken but was disappointed. The chicken was very very bland. The rotisserie chicken at Costco is tastier and bigger.

Great tostones (fried smashed plantains) and Yuca fries. Hands down best chicken too. Good service (Spanglish speaking) on the phone and in person. They DO deliver but it's so close to home, ain't no thang to park on Diversey street and pick it up. read more

One of my favorite foods is chicken. So when I find a spot with good chicken I will definitely keep that menu handy and continuously come. I have no complaints so far about the food and the staff are nice and friendly. The food is ready pretty fast and the prices aren't too bad. read more

My husband, daughter and I ordered carry out today. We called ahead and the food was ready on time. It was our first trip to Mr. Pollo in 3 years. We live in the suburbs and it's a long drive to get there. The food was definitely worth the 45 minute drive! We ordered the Family Dinner, which includes a whole chicken and 3 side dishes. We ordered fries, Caesar salad, and yucca frita. We also ordered sweet plantains and chicken soup. The plantains were a little drier and less sweet then we are used to, but overall the food was excellent. Our bill was only $33 for all of that food and we still have enough leftovers for another meal for the 3 of us. Our daughter was disappointed that we didn't dine in, so the next time we come, we will eat there. We plan on coming back next month for the best pollo a la brasa in town! read more
