I came here on a Saturday night around 5:30pm with a reservation, there were two of us. We were sat but our reservation was not acknowledged by the open table website. You definitely need a reservation after 6:30pm as it got pretty crowded but the bar was empty. The restaurant was not too loud, the tables were very uncomfortable to sit at due to the center of the table being a wooden stump like object. Which made it hard to push your seat in, and the table was wobbly. They also turn the lights off mostly, which actually makes for a great vibe. Other than the uncomfortable seats and tables. They have a lot of drinks, specifically cocktails with unique flavor profiles, using green peppers and corn in drinks. I started with trying the two frozen beverages one was a ginger drink and the other was a sweet milky corn beverage, both unique, not for me. But it was so nice they allowed us to try them. We got the empanada trio (beef, chicken, and veggie). The veggie was very corn forward, almost only corn and some spices. If you love corn you'd love the food and drinks. We also got chorizo arepas which were tasty, but the sliced chorizo didn't seem to match the bite of the arepas. It may have made more sense to have had crumbling chorizo on the arepas. And finally we had the yuca fries, which case with a thick sauce and cojita cheese. They were very good. I asked for a side of hot sauce, it was a mild sauce but it was good. Seemingly homemade. The service was okay, it took a while to get a drink, then to actually get the drink took a long time, and then trying to order and leave took a while. It wasn't a bad experience. This place was featured on the travel network as a must try. If you want to try something new, love corn, definitely recommend. read more

I can't believe I haven't been to this place sooner. Amazing happy hour deals, including your choice of two frozen bevvies amongst many others. Most places toss a standard marg and old fashioned on their HH menu and call it a day. Not here! The good stuff is flowing for $10 and I am here for it! Also tried the beef empanadas and they were so juicy and delicious. It's got a great vibe inside and the bartender was super friendly and helpful. We came for the Panamericana cafe during the day. It's La Licor by night. They use Metric coffee and it's a fun coffee menu. I love that the specialty drinks menu is default oat milk. I had a coquito latte which was fantastic. My husband tried a cold brew tonic. I think it was good but it would be even more amazing in the summertime. I plan to come back as the happy hour menu looks great. read more

New coffee spot--the La Licor cocktail bar is doing a morning / daytime cafe vibe with a different name and menu. Outdoor rail seating with pretty solid WiFi so got some work done here today. Delicious Kyoto slow drip cold brew. A little pricey but it was very smooth tasting. Metric coffee is a high quality partner, so probably interested in trying a pour-over as well. This has been on my list of places to try, and finally went! I didn't really know what to expect but it so cute inside. It almost looks like a hidden bar. The decor and vibe is pretty amazing. First of all, this place makes me feel prouder of being Latina I used to live two blocks away, thankfully I have moved or I'd be broken (now I live 15 min walk). Love the fact that they have drinks (beers and cocktails) and food from all Latin America. La Licor happy hour is amazing! I'm not a huge fan of slushies, but their mezcal slushy.. pssst.. insane.. now, I recommend to not drink it like a juice even though it's really hard not to mariquitas, and chicharrones.. ADDICTIVE last time my friends and I met up there, lost count how many we ordered. The owner, bartender, staff in general are very nice, very friendly and the vibe inside is GREAT. It feels cozy, but quite elegant/modern, love the decoration and how the old place (it used to be a sushi place) was transformed to this unique gem in the neighborhood. read more

Yowza, Bowsa! How'd I miss this place? Well it's only been open 6 months, and it fooled me. Everything- drinks, food and dessert was 4* and up. Complex and delicious flavors in the drinks, subtle and beautifully seasoned dishes, very unique dessert. Try the panna cotta. It is an experience just like the place itself. What a vibe. Came here for drinks and the puerto paraiso was amazing!!! Haven't had this nice of a cocktail in a long time. Also, atmosphere + service was great. When I asked the bartender if the drink would be sweet he said no but offered to make it sweeter before realizing that I didn't want it sweet. Really great experience!! We will be back. read more

This review is for the drinks only since we didn't have any food, but I was super impressed. We tried about four drinks and all were lovely. The standouts were the El Arenal and Puerto Paraiso. The El Arenal was wonderfully balanced - smokey, spicy, and but full-bodied and sweet. read more

Partner and I had two different pourovers from the options they had available for the day. Full disclosure, neither of us tend to go for lighter roasts that are heavy on fruit-y tasting notes (if we go light roast, we prefer those that have floral/spicy notes), but we could still tell the brew was executed with care. The coffee notes came through great and no harsh acidity or bitterness on either end. A great couple of cups, even if it's not the kind of bean that we would drink daily. The person that helped us was very nice in explaining the options, and she even gave us a tiny sample of fresh ground beans to smell alongside our cup of brewed coffee. Love that. We didn't stay to work, but they do also have Wi-fi and it was fairly quiet on a weekday morning. Unrelated to the coffee...there is also a very strong selection of tequilas on the wall. They've got some of my all time favorites. The cocktail bar doesn't open until later, but I'm definitely eyeing stuff there too...!!! read more

I came here for Restaurant Week. I can't see myself coming back. I liked the fries and my partner swears her Lomo Saltado was tasty. That's about it. Oh, and the sauce that came with the empanadas was fun. On the other hand, our empanadas themselves were all cold (Cold cold, not just room temp) in the center, suggesting that they'd been simply run through the microwave. I spend $22 on an apparent house special, the Inca Old Fashioned. It left a lot to be desired. It was harsh and one-note with smoke completely dominating the drink. I like a smoked drink, but this tasted burnt and even had remnants of wood from the preparation mixed into the glass. We were a group of 3 and got charged a large table gratuity without any warning or communication. If this is policy, it is a shady way to implement it. Service itself was odd--it was very hands off and slow at the beginning and then almost overly attentive toward the final third of the meal. Our appetizers came out at different times, which was less than ideal. Nothing else we ordered was worth mentioning, except that prices seemed to be on the high end for the quality. read more

Came here with my husband for dinner since we live in the neighborhood and saw that they recently opened. We started with drinks (photo attached) and they were both delicious. The arenal was nice and strong but not overpowering... definitely will have this one again when I come back here. For our meal, the food is served tapas style, or family style, so we shared the chofrijo with chicharron, lomo saltado with fries, and jalea. Absolutely delicious! Live in the neighborhood and was excited to see a new restaurant pop up and I was not disappointed! The drinks were great and very unique, not only paying homage to the Latin American classics abut also some of their own twists. I truly do not understand all these positive reviews. I'm from Latin America, but you do not even need to be Latin to tell how absolutely awful the food is. We had the chifrijo which was cold, unseasoned, and had no avocado in it aside from two 1/4 inch pieces. I am not exaggerating that Chipotle is better in comparison. The yuca was not traditional; it was breaded like a mozzarella stick. The fried chicken had three times as much breading as chicken. Popeye's is better. The fish was probably the best, but not enough to redeem this awful meal. There's nothing inventive, refined, or interesting about these dishes. I was expecting thoughtful, cohesive, elevated dishes that blended Latin American flavors. It's a hodgepodge of not even fast food quality food. I would go to Irazu, Moran, or Tropicuba for better food in the neighborhood. read more
