Awesome food! Awful service! Ordered several hours ahead of time today and picked up our food. We live several miles away but ordered from here because we know the food is good. Arrived at the specified time and our food was not ready. After waiting half an hour, we got our food, took it home, and opened the bags only to find out we were not given any white rice (entrees all are supposed to come with it as of this review) and we had ordered eight entrees. We dod not get our appetizer (crab rangoon), or our soups. We actually drove all the way back with our receipt and explained. They gave us one small container of white rice and one individual serving of soup. They refused any more and completely refused us our appetizer. So, in the end, we feel as though they simply stole our money and could care less even though this has been our go to for Americanized Chinese food. Not going back again. Sad. read more

We were going to try Olive Tree down the strip mall from this place, but it was full, so we decided to give this place a go. Boy, that was a mistake. The restaurant was almost empty when we got there (which should have been our first clue), but it was clean. We ordered the crab rangoon and beef teriyaki appetizers, mongolian beef, beef fried rice, and beef with broccoli. The crab rangoon might have had a few specks of krab in it, but not more than that. It was incredibly oily, and the cream cheese was slimy. The beef teriyaki had 4 skewers of beef. Two of the skewers were very thin and the meat was almost flavorless. These were the two good skewers, unfortunately, because the other two had huge chunks of beef on them that I couldn't even chew through, much less cut with my fork, and they were dripping with grease. The mongolian beef was flavorful, but it wasn't exactly a good flavor. The menus say that they adjust the spice to fit their customers' wishes, and I wish they'd asked me, because I would have liked a bit more spice to mine, but since we'd sat down the the restaurant had added a few more patrons, all of them fairly elderly, so I'm sure they're used to appealing to a more... aged palate. The beef with broccoli was bland and the sauce was very thin, and the beef fried rice was completely lacking in any flavor other than oil. We definitely will not be back. read more

I went in there today for a very simple order or potstickers and house fried rice with extra bbq pork. I don't know where the hell the girl got extra rice from. Never said that I even corrected her twice. What a dummy. Listen!!! read more

This used to be called Hunan or something to that effect. Although I never ate there, I heard the food was good. Ironically enough there is another Lucky star no more than 3 miles up the road and yes they are affiliated. The food here is good, but not the best, but the service was terrible. We were the only ones there and after taking our order the server disappeared, she came back to deliver the meal, but our water remained empty and we were never asked how the meal was. That said, there are plenty other places to eat including Chinese, so there is no need to return for the worst service around. read more

Literally the bar that I compare all other General Tso's chicken too. Pre-COVID, the service is as 5 out of 5 as you can get. Bummed that we can't dine in, but the quality of the food didn't miss a beat. Love love this place! read more

Beware if you have allergies I ordered take out sweet and sour chicken. I took one bite and realized it was shrimp, which I am allergic to. When I called to complain the manager argued with me about what I had received because the receipt showed chicken. After trying several times to get her to understand they had sent me shellfish, which could land me in the hospital, I told her the least she could do was refund our families $70 order. Her response was that she could only refund the prawn order and to call her if I ended up in the hospital for a further conversation. So if you have allergies, you might think twice before ordering from here read more

Food was great! Service was a little slow tho but very polite! For cleanless, I would say good but theres some issues with dust I see, and the chairs could be cleaner. Overall good food tho! read more

I was in this strip mall area for another reason at dinnertime yesterday and the lines at Mod Pizza and Cafe Rio were unreal so I decided to try this Lucky Star location, hoping it would be as good as their original location located in Covington. Unfortunately, this was a bad decision. Other than the Hot & Sour soup, which was very good, the rest of the apps and entrees were mediocre to poor. Everything was flavorless and moderately warm at best. The service was the worst part though. It seemed that they were very under-staffed, with one server trying to serve all the tables and walk-in, take-out customers while the ringing phone was answered by what appeared to be the only cook who was forced to leave the kitchen to come out front to pick up the phone. If the food would have been better, it might be worth another shot under the assumption someone was late or called in sick. But, since it was sub-par all the way around, I won't be back. In the end, I had to stand at the register in order to pay my bill and get out of there. read more

How is this place still in business? There is chinese food and then there is this place. I had their almond chicken...and it was Horrible. It was greasy and the rice was overcooked. The whole visit defeats the purpose of having a meal...when you feel like throwing up afterwards. read more

First time to this restaurant. Ordered take out. Very disappointed. Food was so bland. Admittedly, we didn't order something listed as spicy. I ordered chicken with black bean sauce. I have never had a chinese dish with so many white onions. I like onions, but there was way too many for my taste. Only good thing that I can say positive is the prices were reasonable. But we won't eat there again. read more

STAY AWAY !!!!!!!!!! Pray that they get it right the first time or you're gonna have a bad day. Just had one of the worst experiences ever ordering Chinese food. AND on valentines day :( 1. Mongolian beef was 90% onions and almost no beef 2. We called the first time and they offered a $5 credit. Had to negotiate to get credit for the whole Mongolian beef 3. Got off the phone and guess what? They forgot our chow main (we had this delivered by door dash) 4. We call back and they want to argue about it, claim they are a refugee and give us a sob story about how much money they didn't make today. Seriously? your poor service ruined our valentines day dinner and we are supposed to care that your restaurant didn't make money today? Oh, they also told us that what we got was a lot of food anyway so pretty much don't worry about the things that were missing. Um, you pretty much robbed us. we just spent nearly $100 at your establishment We asked for a full refund didn't get it and now my wife is crying because or evening is ruined. read more

I tried this place after a friend recommended it. There are big, roomy booths as well as some tables in this cozy place. I was instantly served a pot of tea and some ice water. I ordered the dinner special, General Tso' s chicken, and found out you can get the food spiced to your preference, on a scale of 1 to 5. It came with sweet and sour chicken, an egg roll, and pork fried rice. You also get your choice of soup. The Hot and Sour is delectable! I'm a big eater, and this meal filled me up, no question. Also, the soda here is only a dollar, not 2.50 or higher like other places. Alas, no free refills. But the food was so satisfying and the price reasonable, I felt like I came out of a buffet! Worth a trip! read more

Best bbq pork fried rice around. I get this about once every 2 weeks to go. I eat it for a couple of meals.

I love the food here! I always get takeout and they fill their takeout containers up! Definitely worth the money for the food and it's delicious too! Employees are always pleasant, friendly, and answer all my questions. read more

Lucky Star - Chinese Near Me - Kent, Washington

How does General Tao's Chicken taste like fish? I called to ask and was told there is no fish in it. No fish sauce? Bad oil? Bad chicken? Bad cook? We have been eating at this establishment in Kent for over two decades. Previous owners passed on their recipes but the food continues to get worse. How can the same dish get rave reviews earlier in the month. So disappointed. Could not finish our meal which speaks volumes in our family. Spring roll covered in sauce from the take out box, fried rice was rice with some soy sauce fried into it no meat or vegetable, crab rangoon looked like it barely touched the oil. Will not attempt to try the chicken with cashew nuts. "Your stomach will regret this" is what the fortune cookie should read. Have overlooked the poorly prepared food for too long, never again. read more

GOOD, INEXPENSIVE and JUST HOW CHINESE FOOD SHOULD BE!! I have lived in the Kent/Auburn area for quite some time and in that time I have not found a good Chinese food restaurant, until Lucky Star. It is located across the street from Safeway on Kent/Kangley road. It isn't a teriyaki joint, as is most other places in the Puget Sound, and in my opinion the best Chinese food around, it is just like the Chinese food I used to eat 20yrs ago. I love it. The lunch specials are great, and inexpensive and you get a lot of food; hot tea, choice of three soups, fried rice or steamed, choice of egg roll or BBQ pork or crab Rangoon, and them a choice of 20 or so main dishes. My personal favorite is the General Tao Chicken. I hope, if you like Chinese food and live relatively close by, you will try it. read more

Great place to eat. I've been going here since it was Hunan #1, my favorite Chinese place of all time. Opt for the Sesame Chicken or Crispy Orange Beef, my favorite foods of all time tbh. No one does it better. Highly recommended. read more

Passable Chinese food. Everything is obviously cooked in bulk beforehand and left to be heated as you order it. Chicken chow mein is bland and vegetables are over cooked. If you are craving just your basic Chinese food this is the place to come, I honestly haven't found anything much better close by so it's where we continue to go. read more

Yummiest orange chicken I've tried in the area! Perfect amount of crisp and not too soggy. Rest of the food is average, the orange chicken is what keeps us coming back! read more

Got some dinner to go. Very disappointed. The egg flower soup was bad. No taste. Almond Fried chicken was more bread than anything and no taste. Pot stickers looked microwaved. 2nd time this has happened. I don't think I'll be going back read more

This is the BEST Chinese food I've ever eaten. Very fresh, fast service and delicious!

We ordered general's tso, beef and scallop stir fried, and chow mein which were all delicious and serving size large. Well worth the quality. Looking forward to going again to try other dishes. read more

This is one of my few favorite places for Chinese take-out, they even know my name :) I been going to this place for 5 years and I can't complained about it. Great food, nice size portions and for a decent price. I eat only ones a year at the restaurant and they are always friendly and attentive. Only once in a while they bring an older lady as a server and she gets all desperate if she has more than 4 customers, other than that.. they are fantastic! read more

I have been going to this place for about 18 yrs. They keep getting cheaper. what bugs me is when you order any seafood dish, they are very skimpy on the seafood. I recently ordered the seafood chow main. I got about 4 tiny little shrimp and 3 pieces of squid. Unacceptable!! Youpas Thai just opened in Kent. Awesome dishes. Very generous with there seafood for the same price. Will not be going back to Lucky Star. read more

Delicious the hunan beef (11.95 dinner) and Mongolian beef (9.95 dinner)were right on the money. Absolutely perfect.. Don't come this way too often but very glad I did! read more

Tried this place out in Kent. Needed a close chinese takeout place. It fits the bill. We ordered mongolian beef and sesame seed chicken and it was good. Typical americanized chinese food...I gotta admit sometimes americanized chinese food hits the spot, which is what we were looking for. Ambience is a typical strip mall restaurant. Menu seems straight forward and reasonable. Most dishes were around $8-10. I'd recommend if you're looking for a take out place down south in the Kent east hill area. They're pretty fast if you drop by to order to go. read more

For the life of me I can't figure out why I have such odd experiences with Chinese restaurants in the PNW. Lucky Star was no exception. I chose this place since it was open before others and ordered some cashew nut chicken which was tasty and the tea was nice and hot. Halfway through the meal a smell of industrial glue just covered the entire restaurant. It was horrible. The couple behind me gathered their food and left after being served at the table. This place had a "Good" rating by King County so something is not right here. Never again. read more

The service was bad. I forgot my baby bottle inside went back and asked the guy was so rude saying he don't know when he was the one who bus our plates. The food is not great!!! Service is BAD!!! read more

I work nearby and used to really enjoy going here on my lunch breaks. Until I found out that this restaurant was caught stealing the thrown out produce from behind Trader Joe's.... This explains why some of my co-workers were getting sick. Frankly, that is just disgusting. I will be amazed if they don't get shut down. read more

We stopped in for a lunch to go, while doing laundry at the laundromat next door. While the service was good and the menu was extensive, the food was unimpressive. The Mandarin chicken was soggy and not at all spicy, and the chicken in garlic sauce was gloppy and pretty flavorless (it was also supposed to be spicy, and wasn't at all). The fried rice was, in my opinion, better than the white rice, though I've had better. The crab rangoon was flat and didn't appear to have any crab at all in it, and the egg roll was stuffed with cabbage and had no flavor. The Hot and Sour soup was neither spicy nor sour, although my fiancé said the dumplings in the Wonton soup were tasty. Needless to say, we'll be looking elsewhere for good Chinese in the area. read more

It wasn't bad, and I haven't found anything better yet so this is our go to Chinese take out. I do wish they had higher cleanliness ratings... read more

Service was terrible, food was great. Let me explain why it still gets 4 stars... It was my first time trying Lucky Star. I read the reviews and was super excited! First I just drove to where the location is shown on the map, and realized that is completely wrong! COPY THE ADDRESS. It is a little over 2 miles away from the location shown. I walked in and made a takeout order. After I paid she casually said "it will be about 40 minutes" i guess I came in expecting the usual 10-15 minutes I get at most restaurants. It was a Friday evening and it was fairly busy so I let it slide and waited. BUT in the HOUR AND 10 MINUTES I waited for my food, there were MANY unhappy customers at tables with kids who had been waiting over an hour for their food, a few came over and talked to me or as they were leaving and wished me good luck. One couple never got their food and let the lady at the counter know they had somewhere to be and if they could get their food to go. She basically told them to leave if they could not wait. So they did. Wished me good luck on the way out... The lady who has a small baby with her came over while trying to calm the baby and apologized for him being so fussy, and that they had been waiting for an hour and a half and still had no food. She explained that she is a usual here and that she has NEVER had this problem before. I heard the same from a few other people. So they get to keep their 4 stars! I will be going back here because the food was the best Chinese I have ever had. Good prices, large portions! We are leftovers for a few days. I will be going back here, and if the service is not good they will definitely be losing a star or 2. But for now I will be trusting of their loyal customers that this was a random and that there was a shortage of staff or something out of the ordinary that caused the massive delays this day. read more

Stopped by for lunch. I wanted a combo, kind of the thing for most Chinese restaurants. You know, some rice, some chow mein, a few entrees. I have no issue paying for that, but not even a real option for lunch. The server was really condescending about this and assured me the lunch was "a large portion". I wasn't concerned about the amount of food, it's the variety. Made me feel self conscious, like I was just wanting a ton of food. Not the case. The lunch was one entree, with rice and an egg roll. I finally settled on the Mongolian Beef DINNER, because at least I got some sweet and sour chicken, for some variety. The server brought my soda I ordered and it was in can, which is fine, but she set it down in front of my husband along with the glass. I thought that was odd since I ordered it and as he went to hand it to me, I went to reach for it and his tea spilled. I quickly grabbed our two napkins and wiped up as much as I could, but I couldn't clean it all up. The server was busy, so we figured we would just wait until she came over and noticed, rather than flagging her down. She came over and dropped our soup, and didn't notice, or didn't care. I don't know. We didn't say anything assuming she would be coming back to clean it up or give us napkins to do it ourselves. He got the wonton and I got the egg flower. Mine was inedible. It was thick and flavorless. At this point, we still had tea all over our table and our server brought our entrees. Finally she noticed the tea and went and grabbed paper towels, which she set down a stack of. WE cleaned up the tea, but we had no napkins or any paper towels left as we had used them to clean up the tea. I saw my meal and was immediately disappointed. My Mongolian Beef was almost all onions with skins still on them, my rice had an odd and stale flavor, my egg roll was tiny and all cabbage and I got four oddly shaped small pieces of chicken to dip into sweet and sour sauce. My husband's dish was the same, except his was full of bamboo shoots and water chestnuts with little chicken. We ate what we could, but we honestly left really unsatisfied. Lastly, as I took the last few bites of my very minimal beef, a bit into a piece and something stuck together in my mouth. A hair had been cooked into the beef. It was a medium length grey hair. It wasn't on the top, it literally strung together my beef as I spat it into my wet napkin. Very disappointed. We will never return for a lot of reasons. read more

This is very typical take out Chinese, or dine in, but I like the food. A lot of the sauces seem to be better quality than most, and the staff nice. Take out orders are always ready as promised. Once I went to pick up at the wrong Lucky Star (there are two in Kent) and they were very nice and remade my food and didn't ask that I go pick up my order across town. read more
