Luckys is my neighborhood grocery store. I come here once in a while when they have a sale or it is convenient. It's a little overpriced and just ok as far as produce. Today I came for watermelon that with the digital coupon is 39 cents a pound.. My lucky app is crappy. The internet is crappy inside the store. I couldn't even log on. I left after verifying I couldn't get the sale price with a super nice gal ( I wish I remembered her name) who said everyone has this problem. Sorry Lucky, you are rubbing me the wrong way. If this is an issue you should give your advertised price without your 'digital coupon'. Frustrating app while grocery shopping is a hard pass. I used to like you. read more

I have been overcharged more times than I can count. I finally put my food down over a $1 coupon. No one could assist me with a sale posted in many outpostings in the store. I asked to speak to the store manager. She refused to help. I said you're about to lose a customer over $1. She looked at me in silence. I asked if she had anything to say. She said I could have helped you but... and then nothing, she walked away. This company has either a terrible customer service training program or they just don't care about customers and don't care if you shop there or don't. Produce isn't the best and prices are high compared to other stores. This picture was taken on 5/19 went to get tomatoes but all of them had an oily feel to it. If you look closely it looks like they were sprayed with something to look newer but most of them were straight mushy. Don't like how they reorganized the whole store it has made shopping here unnecessarily longer. read more

I use to like shopping at Luckys but ever since they decided it was a good idea to reorganize the store it has become a chore to shop here. The produce section is unorganized and frankly not well kept. The meat department is hit or miss. I assume it was absorbed by another corporation which is really too bad for the customers. Even though the store is only a few blocks from my home I drive to Nob Hill. I can find what I need without having to do a forced march. read more

I spent over $400 here and I bought 63 items. I bought too many items that I didn't need for our event so I was wanting to return them. It was about seven items I counted. 7 items out of 63 items really isn't that much but to them it was a huge giant return. Mind you I called first. A woman with a very deep Slovic accent told me it would be OK and when I got there. After all my trouble.... The same woman comes up and told me "no way can't do it." Without an explanation she just didn't want too. It was way too much for her she said. Well, It was way too much for me to go out in the dark in the freezing cold load up these few items stand in line. Wait my turn have the cashier go through and mark everything on the receipt for her to come up and say no it's too too much trouble for her. How rude and disrespectful !!! I don't believe this woman should be in customer service and I bet she's a real bear to work for too. I love to be able to go to my local grocery store! I do try to shop local when possible. This store has always been super clean and organized. Employees always friendly and helpful. Recently (today) this location i noticed has some new employees. They are not very friendly and almost somewhat rude. It looks like they are short handed not sure. I understand times are wierd rt now and everyone has life going on, but you still expect people to be nice and friendly! To the managers at this store please hire for personality! It does make a difference.The bagger at my ck stand today was just not a happy guy! When i go to T Joes, Sprouts i have always felt welcomed and that the employees are happy to be there! For the last year or two I have had SO many issues with this store! Produce department is consistently horrible - crappy produce, no prices for many items (most every time I shop!) , out of advertised and non advertised items, confusing pricing on supposedly discounted items. Other store merchandise incorrectly priced (nice surprise at checkout or worse, at home!) and/or placed in incorrectly marked places. Out of many items on a regular basis just not worth shopping here anymore. And to top it all off cashiers and service employees not very friendly either. The bakery staff here are wonderful. They pop out a huge variety of breads, pastries and cakes each day. PLUS they went above and beyond for my daughter's space themed birthday cake! I ordered a half sheet cake with edible photo. The photo had a space galaxy background and they decorated the cake so it also looked like a galaxy and the picture seamlessly blended. Guests were blown away and I made sure to tell them it was from Lucky for $40! Btw, I had called around for a cake like this and was quoted $280. Hats off to the bakers at this Lucky! I used to like this grocery store and would shop here the most for groceries. Unfortunately, the store has deteriorated in their service quality over the years. A pattern that I've been noticing is prices that are discounted. Often whenever we have items that are discounted and go to scan them at the self-checkout, we've noticed a growing problem where the items don't always include the discounted price. We were there two days ago and almost everyone at the self-checkout had the red light flashing on their register, including us, and the attendant was running around trying to help everyone. She had to come to our register three times because the prices of the items rang up higher than the labeled prices. She wasn't friendly, which is consistent with the other employees there, and she had an attitude that implied we were the cause of the problem. This store is a convenient five minute walk from the house, but we've decided it's better to drive to Trader Joe's in Concord for groceries from now on because we never encounter a pricing problem there and the employees are friendly. We've lost our patience and trust with this Lucky store and their unfriendliness and shady price labeling. read more

Don't dare go here if you use food stamps (EBT). Especially if you happen to be an attractive, well-dressed, African-American woman. At 11:21 am today Shannon the cashier (according to my receipt), decides exclaiming in front of me was a good plan while speaking to another cashier (the one who runs the self check out) "I can't believe *that* woman was using EBT and had all this nice designer stuff on." Oh my, her tone was nasty. I looked at her in horror. Really, you are gonna be so unprofessional that you are going to comment on the way someone paid for their grocery, which Shannon, is one way you are paid. I doubt Shannon realizes how much grocery stores rely on that governement money, so they can pay her. My husband and I tried to defuse the situation, "There is a good chance they were knock offs." Shannon, "No, I know they were real." "Really??!" I replied. "Perhaps she was married when times were good, she was able to buy them and now she can't." "No, that's not it." "Really? When I was divorced and broke, I still used my $2,500 purse." Finally, Shannon decides to double down, to go further, to really say what's on her mind. She hisses at me, "I have worked my whole life." I said to Shannon "so have I." At this point, Shannon showed who she is. Obviously she doesn't understand, you can get EBT and still work. It is a thing. It really can happen and does happen. You also can be going to school, and get EBT. Too bad Shannon couldn't have thought, "I am glad I have a job that pays enough so I don't have to go deal with the messed up system that is EBT." And BTW, the customer before me had on nice, clean, well-maintained clothes but most certainly not designer, not in the true sense of designer. She had an older iPhone in a cheap case. Was it the sparkling Michael Kors little cosmetic bag the cashiner was talking about? The one that Macy's had on clearance for $44? Was it the older, nice bag she was carrying? The one that the thrift stores sell for under $50? Because I did not see Louboutins on the customer's feet, or Prada on their back. Reason for review: negative customer service received from manager. After searching multiple grocery stores in Martinez, I was able to locate Atlantic salmon at the Martinez Lucky store. The store was offering a nice discount if a digital coupon was used by the consumer. Visiting from out of state, I tried several times to install the Lucky app and clip the digital coupon. unable to complete the process after approximately 10-15 minutes of trying, I took the fish and the rest of my groceries to the checkout lane. The clerk also tried to open the app and clip the coupon, even sending me to the front entry to try where the wireless connection was supposedly better. again, no luck. The manager, who did not introduce herself as one at the time, also tried to assist. all in all, I was in the store for well past an hour! Finally, I checked out without the discount, and asked the checker to consider overriding the current price, allowing the digital discount price (which would've went from $9.99 lb to $5.99 lb.). She said she couldn', but called a manager over. It was the manager who knew all of the time we spent, yet she told me that they HAD to enter the digital coupon in order to process the sale price. I told her that after all this time trying to make it work, I wasn't going to spend more time begging her to offer the lower price, and that I knew that she had the authority and process to override a price as a customer service gesture. This is my go to store. It's been several years since my first review and not much has changed. Everyone is friendly by default. They smile and ask if they can help you find something. They understand that the food prices are high everywhere and they do what they can to lighten the burden. Today they had fresh salmon filets for $6.99. That is nearly in heard of these days. The store is clean, the checkers are efficient and get you through checkout quickly. The make a good experience happen and make it look easy. read more

Went to use self checkout and coupons didn't ring up properly. The head cashier came over to what I thought was to help. I attempted to explain my situation but she proceeded to interrupt me and talk to me in a rude and condescending manner and just told me to call customer service. She should be taking pointers from employees like Max and Andrew or the ladies and gentlemen from the meat and deli departments. Went in yesterday and bought packaged chicken taco meat and al pastor taco meat. Cooked the chicken and took it to work today. As soon as I ate it I had to go throw up! It was not good. Tried to cook the al pastor meat now and as soon as I cut open the package it just smelled so FOUL. Just the smell made me want to throw up. I had to throw it away and I noticed this package had blank "packaged on" and "sell through" dates so idk if that's on purpose to try and sell bad expired meats or what. Last week I purchased a bag of potatoes and when I opened them up they had a nasty smell and white mold. Same thing with a pack of hotdogs I had to return. I used to work at Safeway back in the day. SO I am well aware of how stores work. I was surprised at how much cheaper the items are than Safeway. I would buy a cart full from Safeway and it is over $200. Not at Lucky's I feel like I get way more for less. Well I don't feel it, my bank account tells me. The deli has prepared sandwiches for a party I had, the customer service was nice and the food was good. The Bakery prepared cupcakes for my sons b-day party. They were good. The checkers are nice. Jeanette is my sons favorite, she always remembers his name and has a good conversation with him. I did go to the store on Saturday and I got a weird vibe from the bagger, he bagged my groceries but left them on the counter and I had to reach over it to grab it myself. He just stared at me. It was bizarre, maybe he was having a "I don't want to be here on a Saturday" kind of night but the vibe was off putting. Although the bagger was weird, I will continue to shop here. read more

I was just at the Lucky in Martinez, CA. There were two varieties of stuffed fish, both marked at $5 if five were purchased. The signs said they were two varieties of stuffed salmon so I got five of each. At checkout the discount didn't show. I mentioned to the women at the self checkout and she canceled the items so I could scan the rest of my items and said she would go check the price. After I paid I went back and her and some idiot who works in the meat dept COULD NOT, apparently, find the items. I showed them and the first thing they said was that five of the items I got were stuffed SOLE. I don't read well without glasses. I saw the items in front of the signs and assumed the people who worked could read well enough to put things in the right place and said so. I'm a senior citizen with several joint replacements and an ankle will require one. Needless walking around the store HURTS. I WAS NOT HAPPY Both workers, a women with a heavy accent, Romania, Slavic would be my guess who I've been told is, INCREDIBLY, a manager had rude comments when I said something about being able to read to put the right item with the sign. No wonder nothing is in the right place. She had a comment about how she does for ME personally as if it's a privilege to spend my money there. I came here last night to grab a few drinks to take to the drive-in movies and thought this Lucky location was nice. The store was pretty empty upon walking in at 7:30 pm at night. I really liked that they had a cart cleaning and hand sanitizer station outside before you walk in and then another hand sanitizer pump once you walk in. I felt like the store was clean and it was empty, not many shoppers in the store. However, we did not like that there was only one line open for one lane. The line to check outgrew pretty long and shoppers passing by were shocked and annoyed, but we were fine because we were pretty close to the front. Once we got close to the front an employee opened another lane for check out and that was helpful. read more

Filthy displays, fishy smell, and horrible customer service. That's what I see in my mind when I think of this Lucky's. We have been shopping here over the past ten years and it just gets worse. On top of all of this, the prices are ridiculously high. This is the latest example. My husband and I start shopping but I have to hold my nose because the smell from the fish is so pungent. We're only here for a few items. We select a red onion (can't go wrong there if you know how to feel for a good one); we look for an Amy's Indian meal but they are $5.00 plus and we turn that down. The main thing we came in for was CoffeeMate, specifically Coconut Cream. We've asked managers for five years to stock more of this flavor. As I'm hunting for it, I notice the bottom of the display is lined with black plastic (looks like they just tore up a few hefty bags) In the crevices of the plastic is just ugly dirt. Like granules of dirt. How does that happen? We go to pick up a few other items like frozen ground turkey for our dogs. The rolls of turkey are on sale so there is none left. This exposes the black plastic lining for this display and it is disgustingly dirty. We go to check out. There is a cashier, a bagger and a floater. They are all in their 20s (at the most) and there is no eye contact or interaction. We're used to this. We don't like it but this is the way things are. The conveyer belt is dirty, sticky and wet, so my husband asks the cashier if she has a paper towel. No response. I ask the bagger. No response. The extra guy (son't ask what the Hell he was there for) is looking the other way. Now I'm angry. I walk twenty yards to the front of the store where there are wet wipes for the cart handles. The employees say they have never noticed the wet wipes. I pull off about five wipes and proceed to wipe down the conveyer belt. There is no thank you, no recognition, nothing. When I ask for a manager, there is no response. I finally find a manager and she is as non responsive as the employees. Her excuse is that "They (the cashiers) don't care." The whole experience is unacceptable. I am currently boycotting the store. They would get zero stars if that were an option. read more

The last time I shopped here it was still Albertsons. I hated Albertson's! The first time, and last time, was because my work gave out $25 gift cards for Christmas. When I bought over the $25 amount, the woman ringing up said that I couldn't afford the rest of my groceries. Um, duh, I'm just applying the $25 to my whole shopping order. I can afford all the groceries I want stupid! I never went back after that. Now that it's Lucky's, I thought I would give them a shot. They obviously have upgraded their customer service standards. I just got back from getting a meal deal at the Lucky in San Ramon. I like the Lucky in Martinez better. Only because of the location, though: just off the freeway, on the way to Wal-Mart. Lucky was somewhere between Food 4 Less and Safeway when it got shut down. Now that Save Mart bought the rights to the name and brought the store back, I've been going more to check them out. And here's the deal: they're more like Safeway now. Feels more like a big, clean grocery store, though without the plastic plants and lovely wallpaper of Safeway. Prices are kinda up there too. So they don't get much of my business. However, when they put their meat on sale, they usually beat everybody, including Food 4 Less. And it seems that they have a great sale every week, starting Wednesdays. You get their ad in the mailbox, and you can pick it up when you come into the store too. Lately, they've started doing meal deals too, like today's: 8 pieces of hot fried chicken, packaged salad, and bread - for $10.99. It's more economical than eating out, but you don't need to cook it because it's all ready to eat. So Lucky gets my business with its meal deals and its meats. An easy stop on your way to Wal-Mart, or down Morello, or if you just happen to be passing down Highway 4. read more

There produce department is so sad. The light and displays are bad. The produce does not seem like it is fresh. It is though the only people shopping here are buying boxed food items. Until today a bought some packaged cheese & the moment I paid I stepped out of the store & within the same minute I came back because I realized it wasn't the right product. The manager her name is Zora, she disrespect me by saying I can't take it back cause you touched it ( it's packaged and it wasn't open) and you might be sick "covid19" And she didn't end up accepting me to exchange the item and the store doesn't have any policy that says cause of the covid19 you can't exchange an item. The staff were telling her that I just bought it and she didn't care. I asked her to give me her manager's information and she didn't give me an email nor a contact number. However, I learned that the managers name is Ruben Perez. I felt very disrespected and humiliated by her saying you might be sick and we are not accepting any exchanges and she just walks away, she has no manners and not sure if she had gotten enough training to be a manager. Lucky's here is different from the other stores, so 4 stars: -heard some associate hollar "three's a crowd" and another cashier opened never seen this at another store -microbrews in a referigerated cooler right by the entrance other stores none or few microbrews. -redbox, coinstar, seattle's best coffee in store don't remember seeing this at other locations. -friendly greeting, thank you from cashiers. nice gesture.... -wine tasting in store (ghost pines?) red blend too smooth, had a kicker finish buys: great white white beer, lost coast, (3.99) -tasted kind of bitter. wouldn't rebuy notes: -no beer sales at self check out. -fab friendly service. read more
