Lucky Boy is a popular burger joint in Pasadena and I really enjoy this newer location. Service is always good, and food as well. The location is on Walnut and has a dedicated parking area with plenty of spots. There is also residential parking easily accessible if the lot was full which never has happened to me. Prices are $$ and can get pricey depending on the size of the party and whether or not some individuals are sharing. You cannot go wrong for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The breakfast burritos here are quite popular and huge I might add, definitely shareable. I myself order chili cheese fries and my son a burger. My sister really enjoys the chicken salad. There is something for most but I am unsure of how vegetarian/vegan friendly this would be. We were recently here with a large group to catch up and we all enjoyed our experience. After reading so many good Yelp reviews, I decided to give this place a try. I didn't order the breakfast burrito that everyone's raving about, though. I decided to go with fish and chips because I wanted something that's not too heavy. I was surprised when I got my order because it was huge! I thought, well, there goes my diet! Lol! A huge part of the appeal at Lucky Boy is the service and atmosphere, and it's impossible to step inside without immediately feeling like a Pasadena local (of which there are many who frequent Lucky Boy several times weekly). The service is fast and friendly, and they take credit card. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? For roughly $7.00 (I admittedly forget the specific cost but I think it's something to the tune of $6.85) you can score a huge breakfast burrito at Lucky Boy, and as others (and instagram) have pointed out, the quantity of meat in these burritos is unbelievable. Good value. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? The breakfast burritos at Lucky Boy are straight forward: you've got a flour tortilla that contains eggs, cheese, potatoes, and a meat of your choice accompanied by salsa on the side. It ain't fancy, but the ratio of fillings is spot on and the meats are good. Did my sausage breakfast burrito blow me away like the ones I've had a Cofax or Tacos Tu Madre? When we went here to grab a couple breakfast burritos, the cashier was visibly sick. Their eyes were watery and bloodshot and as we started ordering they had a coughing fit. The person I was with asked the cashier if they were okay and the cashier just stared at us blankly until we resumed ordering. As we stepped away from the counter, the cashier lowered their head and started saying "Man down... man down..." while the rest of the staff kept working as though their coworker wasn't obviously unwell. The person I was with went to go use the restroom while I waited for our order and the cashier beat him to the restroom in the back of the building. The cashier then began to loudly retch and gag in the bathroom and we could all hear them easily at the front of the store. Another customer nervously said, "They don't seem to be doing so well," and we all nervously laughed while the rest of the staff continued working as though nothing was going on outside of the ordinary. The cashier continued to audibly retch from the back bathroom while we waited. We got our food and agreed that neither of us wanted burritos or anything else that had come from that kitchen and promptly left to find a trashcan to deposit our wasted burritos. One of the biggest best burritos you can ever find anywhere. Ever. The takeaway from here would be these beautifully-made breakfast burritos. I'm a sucker for them and this place definitely draws me away from any other restaurants that sell them. And if you have not seen what they look like when it's cut in half, you must; it looks like a piece of art. In it comes with hash browns, eggs, cheese, and bacon (there's avocado and sausages as alternatives). I also really love the crispy bacon and the hash browns that comes inside of it. It's made so differently from many of the ones that I have tried. Whoa, did I not mention the size? Unless you want food coma, I would definitely recommend splitting it for two meals. When it comes to parking, it's pretty accessible and hassle-free. There's a huge lot behind the restaurant, that's why.
