On a recent trip to LA, my friends and I stopped by DTLA's Grand Central Market for dinner. Of all the restaurants, fried chicken was calling my name and thankfully Lucky Bird was there. Food came out fresh and made-to-order. Now, when I am saying "fresh" and "made-to-order", I mean incredibly hot, crunchy, juicy, and delicious. For what feels like a little, unsuspecting chicken shop....their food blew me away. This was fried perfection, and I could only wish I had a location out here in Phoenix, Arizona, because I want more badly!! The service was incredibly fast, friendly, and even gracious which I feel like I don't see very much. I look forward to my next visit to LA, because I will be getting Lucky Bird again. read more

I found Lucky Bird on Uber eats and it was close by (which is a must to keep the chicken crunchy). It arrived pretty quick. I got the 2 pieces of chicken with a bunch of their homemade sauces: habanero honey, buttermilk ranch and the paprika aioli that came with the potato jojos. Unfortunately the fried chicken was just over fried, but the sauces saved it. The skin was to the point where it almost tasted/looked burnt, but I dipped it in the honey and I got a little bit of my crunchy fix. The chicken inside was juicy. It came with a drumstick and a breast. All in all I was satisfied and enjoyed dipping the chicken inside all the sauces. The sauces themselves were excellent. The honey definitely has a kick.. I would love to out that in a cornbread. The ranch tasted very fresh. The paprika flavor in the aioli stood out more with the chicken than the potatoes. Ok, for real: Lucky Bird has some of the best fried chicken I've ever tasted. It's perfectly cooked; the skin is crunchy and full of flavor; and it's served hot and fresh. Delicious. I had the Chicken Sammie with coleslaw added and a side of mac salad. Everything was outstanding. The mac salad is a cold noodle dish, if you didn't know. Some foreigners were clearly confused by it. But it's a Hawaiian-style side. They use rotini noodles instead of macaroni though. My husband had the chicken and waffles and were raving about them. Like the skin just melted off, that's how tender it was. They also have beer, including a canned beer that's only $5! Service was fast and the women working the counter were all great. One girl, in particular, was super helpful and gave us water cups and just was very communicative. We were also lucky enough to snag seats at the counter, but they do fill up fast. There's only maybe 10 stools. Super busy on the weekends because they're in Grand Central Market, but worth it IMO. read more

Lucky Bird wasn't originally at the top of my list at Grand Central Market, but someone in our group suggested it because there was seating available--and I'm glad we gave it a chance. It ended up being very good. We ordered a chicken sandwich and two orders of the chicken tenders. The tenders were excellent--there's something about them that's different from what you usually get at most places, though I can't quite put my finger on what it is. They were definitely the standout for me. The woman taking orders and managing food pickup, waters, etc. was very friendly, but she clearly had a lot going on. Service was on the slower side, so this isn't the place to go if you're in a rush. The price point feels a bit high for what you get, but at least the food delivered. There are a few barstools if you want to eat there, though it seemed like most people were ordering to go. The actual chicken patty was a good size, but it lacked spice. The Potato Wedges were good, nice and hot, I still prefer regular fries but these were a good try still. The Grand Central Market is full of such amazing food and Lucky Bird fits right in with the best of them. My wife and I tried Lucky Bird on Monday afternoon for the first time and we both left with full stomachs and smiles on our stupid faces. The menu here isn't huge but it really doesn't need to be. It offers fried chicken, chicken strips, and chicken sandwiches.....so what else do you need out of a fried chicken joint? Nothing! Well, sides but they have you covered with those too. I ended up ordering the "hot honey Sammie" which is a pretty good size chicken sandwiches covered in a hot honey sauce. On the side we split some macaroni and cheese and some JoJos (which is what they call giant potato wedges). The chicken sandwiches covered was absolutely phenomenal from the juiciness of the chicken to the flavour of the hot honey, absolutely top notch chicken sandwich. The Jojo's were very good as well, basically just being fried chunks of potatoes. The only part of the meal that wasn't a homerun was the macaroni and cheese, which was kind of just bland and mediocre. Overall, Lucky Bird is definitely the king of fried chicken in the Grand Central Market and was definitely a meal I enjoyed. I genuinely believe these are the best chicken fingers I've ever had. I first tried Lucky Bird at the LA Times Food bowl and was so blown away, which meant I needed to actually visit their location and try everything fresh. The chicken tenders have the most perfect crispy crunchy breading, and the flaky salt on top is what makes these so spectacular. They are served right from the fryer, meaning they are hot and fresh! I ordered mine with some sort of creamy salsa verde which was delicious, but they had a bunch of other sauce options as well. The cheddar jalapeño biscuits with honey butter are also 10/10!! Lucky Bird is located inside the Grand Central Market -- a bustling food hall with a variety of options to eat and drink. They don't have a ton of dedicated seating because of this, but we were able to grab some barstools at their counter. At the register we were immediately greeted with a warm smile. I got the chicken sando & wedges. Lady said it would come out in 5 minutes, and that's exactly what happened. Super quick turnaround! The sandwich was crispy as hell with a salty, slightly zesty crunch. Bun, lettuce, and sauce were simple but well executed to complement the fried chicken. But those wedges....THOSE WEDGES!!!! At first I thought, how much for 5 measly wedges!?! But don't think of it that way! It's like a full potato cut into 5 thick ass pieces. Super filling, and the taste brought me back to Shakey's wedges 25+ years ago when they used to serve them with the fried chicken on a pizza platter. They were lightly battered but somehow still crispy, and the salt flakes are the perfect touch. It's the perfect meal! And the timeliness was definitely appreciated since I was with the kiddos. We ordered a 2 piece- one thigh and one breast. They said it could be 7 minutes to get my order, but it was ready in half that time. My son devoured it. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the breading was the right amount of crispy and flaky. A good friend took me to this place for lunch and I must say, it deserves its spot in grand central. It is a nice change from all these new trendy Nashville fried chicken places and does it's job at keeping it simple, clean, and tasty. While only 3 tenders, the quantity and quality you get is exceptional. The tenders are breaded nicely while the chicken is tender and very soft. However, the Mac is nothing special. Don't get me wrong, the Mac is definitely good but nothing out of the ordinary. Finally, I must say, the sauces were fairly good. I am very specific about what I like in my sauces so It would be best if I didn't give my opinion on them. However, that have a good amount to choose from so I definitely recommend trying a handful of them during your meal. 4/5 stars read more

Fantastic staff! I loved how they were working calmly and so hard during the busy lunch hour. I ordered the 3 piece wings sweet and spicy style, they were delicious. They were a little spicy for my spice level but they were still really good. I loved the Mac n cheese it was creamy and I could taste the different cheeses within.
