We stopped in here to check it out since I had read they just opened and so glad that we did! When you walk in the front door you get a view of the entire restaurant which looks awesome. You order at the counter and pick up on the other end when your name is called and then sit at one of their community picnic type tables or the bar. When you order you can start a tab that can be used & paid at the bar which was a nice feature so that you are not paying for food and then drinks. We had the smoked wings (3 per order) which are a full wing and not a portion of a wing and they were really good. We also had the Mac n Cheese waffle - yes I said waffle and if you try anything here try this! we walked into this restaurant and thought what a cute vibe, was excited to be able to give a review on their food but the service is terrible. we didn't even get a chance to try the food because we waited 10 minutes before anyone helped us and we went to ask to be helped, and then waited an additional 10 minutes and no one helped us so we walked out. The last straw was that they served a different table before ours which we had been waiting for 20 mins. So.... been wanting to try this place since last year when we were down in the area for the 'Big Wheel' races but due to the crowds we decided to wait until another day. I will start with the good; the Mac and cheese tastes amazing. Now the issues and this is going to be quite long so speed read r skip to the bottom now. The amazing tasting mac and cheese was cold? Like it just came out of the fridge cold? There were three of us. Or for pork belly sandwich with a side of cole slaw, one of us ordered just brisket and I ordered 4 ribs and 1/4lb of pork belly. Let's start with the pork belly since it was a common denominator with two of us. You get some decently moist bits but I'd say that 80% of it was as tough as leather? Like my jaws were getting tired while trying to consume it? The sandwich was inedible as a sandwich for same reason. Next up was the brisket. Again, it was cod and pretty bland? I don't know how this is even possible but we got 1/4lb of this and even with the three of us, we ended up Barry being able to finish it and it was more than likely because one of us liked the sauce more than the brisket and didn't want to waste the sauce... The ribs. He do I bring this up... they were ok? Well, I should say that the one that actually had meat on it was ok. The other three were basically just bone and maybe a bite of meat? They were so hard and dry that there was no way we were going to eat them. At $2 a bone it's a bit to take. No idea how whomever put our tray together thought putting this food out t customers must simply not care. I don't know if all the 4 and 5 star reviews were people who've imbibed too much or they just haven't had really good bbq. I'm telling you now, there are way better bbq joints within driving distance from this store. And again, whomever stated that the place was affordable must be spending too much time in OTR. I had to go up and talk to the folks working here twice and both times I stood there and was completely ignored until I spoke up and they looked me in the eye. You don't get plates. You eat off the tray and the paper towels. They can supply metal utensils to eat with which is odd to me since they don't have plates and the paper in the tray tears easily. Yes, I am difficult. Great food! They have a walk up counter where you order and pick up your food. The inside is large with dark thick wood everywhere, a nice sized bar and picnic tables. The staff was very nice and helpful as we decided on our order. It was taco Tuesday (1 taco is $2, 3 tacos for $5) so we got 3 tacos. They had burnt ends, cole slaw, and blue cheese. I had the broccoli salad which was ok but not great, just not a ton of flavor. I also had a cup of the chilli which could have been warmer but the flavor was very good with large chunks of brisket. The place itself has a great industrial OTR look and feel, sort of very low key sports bar on the weekdays. I do dig the layout, and the second floor provides great people watching opportunities. The food.... well, I only ordered sides and had experiences akin to those of Roth M and Bill S. Essentially underwhelmed but hoping that a future visit will yield a better result. They have somewhat stiff competition with Nation and Boomtown on the adjacent corners so I think that they will step up and rise to the challenge. I am glad to see the Pendleton/OTR area have food options. Side note. If you have any dietary restrictions, don't forget to ask before you order. I didn't know there would be meat in the collared greens and had a little surprise since there is plenty of meat in it. Oh well. $4 wasted. The waffle mac n cheese things were greasy, small and not too flavorful. I spiced them up with Sriracha sauce once I got home and that helped quite a bit. I highly recommend drinking a nice beer with this food. If you are in the area, give them a try, but maybe give them some sort of grace period since every new restaurant has growing pains and develops as they eventually hit their stride. I believe that the place has good bones and definite potential, and that goes a long way in this city. read more

Did I even eat here? Where are all my photos? That's not like me! Well, my friend and I were looking for a beer and a bite, and she mentioned nearby BBQ, so that drew me in. And maybe I was spending too much time talking to her instead of staring at my food like an obedient Yelper. Sorry, y'all deserve better from me. Well, first off, I never got my beer. They had four or five beers on tap, and the rest were cans. Nothing on tap looked good. It may be just me, but if you offer me a beer in a can, I'll just get my own at the store. I like the tap experience. The beer tastes fresher and more nuanced, despite the protestations of the Lucius bartender. Anyway, I ended up drinking a whole bunch too much sweet tea to make sure I'd stay up until midnight, so that worked out OK in the end. So then I ordered food. Some of the meat looked dry or like it had been sitting out in the sauce too long, so I went with the BBQ pork belly that looked fresher. They said ribs were fresh off the smoker, so I added ribs. Sides included the panko mac and the meaty beans. Here we go, in order: * Pork belly: 4+ stars. Not a traditional BBQ meat. I thought they did a fine job with it, though it was a bit on the crispy side instead of being melty. I wonder, though, what would happen if you slow-cook a meat with so much fat in it by nature. Does that destroy the essence of pork belly? * Ribs: 1 star. Either they gave me yesterday's ribs in order to make room for the new ones, or they completely overcooked the ribs to the point of being jerky. There's fall off the bone, and there's bone comes apart in your mouth and you can't even tell what's bone vs. what's meat. I rarely complain about my food as long as it's edible, but I want a mulligan on this one. * Mac: 3.5 stars. I like my mac noodles slightly overdone, and these were just north of al dente. Al dente is fine for pasta, but mac & cheese is not pasta, it's comfort food. I would have tolerated "medium". The panko breading feels like an afterthought that was sprinkled on, not one with the rest of the dish at all. * Beans: 4+ stars. A solid side I'd recommend. * Dessert - Lucy Q: So, Suzy Q's are chocolate snack cakes, artificial cocoa-flavored mix around an artificial sugar-cream interior, then coated in low-grade chocolate. Lucy Q's are dessert dreams, delicious moist chocolate cake around a natural marshmallowy interior, then coated in high grade chocolate and kept in a fridge because Lucius just KNOWS that all good chocolate desserts are served cold. I'll give this one 5 stars. In the end, the ribs are a straight 1-star deduction, no matter how good everything else was. If you burned them that badly, sorry, just throw them out. The rest of the food was pretty good, but not outstanding enough to recover to a full 4 stars. Located an interesting restaurant downtown Cincinnati. Fantastic location for some quality BBQ and slow cooked meats. Great selections of beers and wines as well. Once you entered the restaurant it is considered a self order type of location. Walk up to the front and order your BBQ and side selections. The wait staff will eventually bring out the food based on the number stand given at the time of the order. Ambiance was casual and you had the option of indoor or outdoor self seating. The ambiance is very casual and family oriented. We ordered a variety of BBQ meats and sides. We ordered pork and beef ribs. The meats were slowed cooked and seasoned very well. The meats tasted flavorful and were extremely tender. The sides were prepared fresh was just as tasty. The chicken wings were good but tasted a little burnt. But the flavors were still delicious. The drink selection was great. The bartender was extremely attentive and recommended some great drinks. The overall staff and service was very attentive and super friendly. The price of this restaurant was definitely affordable for the amount of food received. I would highly recommend this place for families with kids to enjoy some great BBQ and enjoyable casual dining. Another great addition to Broadway and 12th in Pendleton. I'm picky with my bbq and I was hoping LuciusQ would live up to it's "legendary" signage. And my wife and I were not disappointed. We went straight for the pulled pork and it was delicious. Great flavor and truly amazing sauces made in-house. There was a mild and hot KC flavor as well as a Queen City mustard flavor along with a white (mayo) sauce and others. I'd recommended trying them all. We also added the broccolini and wait for it...mac n cheese waffle- Oh my! So good that we went back in line for more. We grabbed some turkey and a corn muffin. All delicious. On top of great food, the vibe was equally good. The inside of the place is much larger than it looks from the outside. And they added an upper floor (deck) that almost doubles the space. Once it warms up there will be an outdoor patio as well. The owners were on hand to answer questions and even pick up our food when we were finished. Didn't expect much from this BBQ joint, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have an older feel on the inside with their menu, and then you can see all the BBQ as you order. I tried the wings, ribs, greens, and Mac & cheese. The wings were delicious! Ribs were smoked well. Greens were amazing! Mac had the nice crumbles on the top. My favorite part is that they had the different types of sauce (hot, sweet, vinegar, gold) so I could sample a bit of everything. This is a cool place to stop in for some BBQ their patio and vibes of the inside are really cool and the long picnic tables offer a chance to get to know new people. There are also enticing daily deals to get you in the door. I went in and took a quick gander at the menu. It was Thursday, so the special was 2 sliders with burnt ends, corn relish, and jalapeños. (Extra Bonus: if you check in you get a free side with a $10 purchase). The cashier said that we could order one with burnt ends and the other with the burnt bellies. Now, this is one of the reasons why I gave this place 3 stars. The chef who fixed our food said that usually try don't do this but since we ordered and paid he would make an exception. But, he said it with the most rude tone almost like he was being condescending. The second reason why I gave this place 3 stars is because the food really wasn't what I expected. Once I took off the corn queso there were only 3 pieces of pork belly and there was way to much bread. I also didn't get what I paid for as both sandwiches were pork. I hate writing a review like this, but truly this was one of the most disappointing experiences I have had in years. We were a party of 6 (4 adults and 2 kids) and taking my father in law out for Father's Day. He just lost his son the month prior and my husband lost his brother so we wanted to make this a really special and great meal for him. He LOVES BBQ and I have heard nothing, but great things about Lucious Q so we decided this was where we were taking him. It wasn't super busy and everything was fine when we first walked in. We got seated and the server took our drink orders. Our server seemed a little twitchy and I was 90% sure he is on drugs, but I just ignored it and moved on to ordering a couple appetizers before we put in our food order. I know this sounds extremely judge mental, but you should have seen this guy. His eyes were completely glazed over, he was twitchy and fidgety. It was extremely uncomfortable, but I didn't want to ruin the dinner so I didn't say anything to anyone. We ordered food next and literally 50 mins go by and we still hadn't received our appetizers. At this point the 2 kids with us are getting super agitated. Our server ends up disappearing? Literally just leaves and never comes back... so we are just sitting there, no food, no drinks, no server. Finally our food and appetizers all come at the same time. This was about an hour later. The appetizers are ice cold and terrible and the food is lukewarm. I saw it sitting in the window for awhile, but again... no server. I didn't get 2 of my sides that I ordered which is what my son was going to eat, so that was extremely disappointing. I wasn't even going to say anything because 1 - I don't have the time to sit and wait for them considering it was an hour before we got our food and at this point I just want to leave and 2 - who do I tell since our server just disappeared somewhere? We flagged someone else down, she told us our server left and paid the bill. Once we left our entire party agreed that something was going on with our server. So Lucious Q, please don't just hire anyone. I was so uncomfortable with this guy. I have eaten here before, and always enjoy the food. Their barbecue is great, and there is no wrong meal. The staff is always nice as well. That being said, a specific server did not respect our personal space. We picked outdoor seating specifically due to the recent increase in COVID cases. However, this server went out of her way to touch my toddler's hand twice. If that were not enough, she also kissed her on the hand both times. COVID aside, toddlers often put their hands in their mouths, making this exchange further inappropriate, especially while eating. Lastly, while my husband was holding our 7-week old, she approached their space as well. She had certainly done away with any social distancing protocol, and this was the very thing I wanted to avoid. It's one thing to not feel comfortable in public because of the patrons, however, if staff are also going to be this inconsiderate and entitled, I'm not sure when we'll get to enjoy nice things again. Great service and food; our group had a mixture of pulled pork Mac and cheese, brisket and smoked turkey. Barbecue just makes you feel good. If you eat at a BBQ restaurant and leave unhappy, you're doing it wrong. Because the secrets of long and slow cooking aren't really that secret anymore, barbecue restaurants are significantly better than they used to be as a rule. This place is a case in point. Cincinnati is hardly a mecca for barbecue, but having a place like this in the city is something we really should expect these days. DLW and I checked it out on a Friday night. Since it is still pretty new, the place was busy even pretty early in the evening. It's in a neighborhood that is gentrifying like most of OTR, with a couple of competing restaurants on the same corner. It also didn't have signage yet, a pet peeve of mine for new places. Owners, if you want people to find your business, put up something to let them know they've found it. Tear a page out of a spiral notebook. Put a bedsheet in the window. Just something temporary until the painters arrive. They put a sandwich board on the sidewalk, but it didn't include the name of the restaurant, just the daily specials. It's order at the counter style service, with a big bar in the center of the floor for drinks. A second floor dining area and patio are also seating options. Every seat has a view of a television playing whatever sportsball game is in progress. We sampled smoked wings, burnt bellies and hot mess. Wings were just three per order, but they were whole wings and good sized ones, well seasoned and tasty. You can't go wrong with pork belly, but you don't see it so often in barbecue places, so we were happy to try it and loved it. Hot mess is a casserole of mashed potatoes, corn, sausage, pulled pork and sweet BBQ sauce. How could it not be good? They offer sauces on the side: sweet, hot, vinegar, mustard and white. All were pretty good, but mustard was the favorite. They even have a vegetarian dish made with smoked mushrooms if you have one of those people in your crowd. A little pricy for barbecue, but it is a pretty upscale environment in the big city. Definitely check it out. read more

Walked in on a Sunday afternoon. Shortly after 2pm. Had I known brunch ran until then I would've definitely tried getting there sooner. However it was my first time there. I just had to visit after trying some wings my mom had brought home from the night before. Anyway upon entry I was immediately taken back by the gorgeous entryway. From the short staircase leading down to the main seating area and counter to order to the stairs on both sides of the room leading up to what looked like another bar and more seating. The lightning and atmosphere was very delightful from the musical selection to the small family eating nearby. After a short look at the menu I decided on the Fuego and my oh my was it was delicious! So amazing. The flavors, the textures; everything worked in perfect harmony. The cornbread muffin was good, I could've finished it but everything I had was great so it was hard to choose how I wanted to fill myself: the greens were better than my Grandma's which is saying a lot because her greens have been the best 33/33 years of my life. Ok so the bartender had terrible customer service ended up going back to the counter to get a drink. Food came out fast and hot. The wings are absolutely amazing. Not dry at all and super good. I split this between the Bama White and Hot and both sauces worked well and it was even great on its own. - Broccoli Salad. Probably a pass for me. It seems like they blanch their broccoli first before making it into the salad. That's fine and how I make mine as well but it tasted like they didn't get it dry enough/took it slightly too far on the blanching, it was a bit mushy. This has a vinaigrette on it vs a mayo based dressing which I did enjoy. - Mac and Cheese Waffle. Good! I like more liquid-y versions but I figured this one would be drier since it was being waffled. Nice flavor though. Price: Price point on the belly and turkey were good, $4.50/quarter pound seemed right no point. My qualms were with the sides. It was $4 for a tiny side of broccoli salad and $4 for the waffle. Those either needed to be a bigger portion or lower price (maybe $3) for the amount of food. Plus neither was a knock my socks off - so I'd probably go with different sides next time. I do wish they offered a plate deal like other BBQ joints, i.e. 2 meats + 1 side or 2 meats + 2 sides for a set price. I'd be ok with the smaller side dishes as part of a plate but having to pay $4 for what I got was a bit much. Sauce: Nice mix of sauces. Vinegar, Carolina Gold, Bama, Hot and Mild. The first time was on a cool Friday evening, and as we were walking a couple blocks from the parking lot to the restaurant we were greeted with jazz music blasting through the open front doors. It felt like we were visiting New Orleans, it was so unexpected. The ambiance is very casual, rustic industrial (is that a thing?) with indoor/outdoor seating, as well as plenty of upstairs seating with overlook onto the band. Nice bar that's accessible from inside or out. Cool bathroom area too! As for the food, I don't eat meat, but it all smelled and looked fantastic! I opted for the Veggie Q which is an assortment of roasted seasoned veggies on a soft bun. Good however not very filling and left me wanting something else. Mac n cheese and beans and rice also good. We went to dinner last night. Basically a self serve bar that also serves bbq and brisket. Good but not great The good: portions were plentiful. Sauces for the BBQ were varied and very tasty. The beer was cold. Lots of choices of beer The not so good: we each had brisket. The portions were solid but the brisket was VERY fatty and VERY salty. Baked beans were cooked in a mustard sauce- so a personal preference but not edible. I was disappointed in the broccoli salad - just broccoli with nuts dumped on top with a squirt of dressing. No imagination. The place is self serve for food and drinks which lends itself to my first line about a bar that does BBQ on the side. If you run a restaurant then at least have ice in the wAter and maybe a server. If we try again, we would skip the brisket and try the pulled pork. read more

There are a lot of BBQ places but this one is a stand out. It's down to earth, not trying too hard, and the food is delicious. I especially enjoy having their food catered for parties. It's always consistent and a crowd pleaser. The service is really good too. I highly recommend. read more
