People take pride in knowing how to eat these slices without burning their mouths or having a major mess. Price is $3/slice. 5* Basically, need to balance holding a very thin paper plate that's holding a hot pizza slice and inch forward the tip of the pizza over the edge of the plate for mini bites so the mouth to warms up without burning and pizza cools slightly for bigger and bigger bites. This long-standing small pizzeria, with a storefront take-out window and a handful of counter seatings inside, started in 1962 and one I started frequenting since the mid-1980s. Slices are a slightly cheesier than in my youth (or I'd like) but still fun to eat and so good. Extra Large Plain Pizza Pie has 8 slices. Eat one molten hot one at the pizzeria and then bring it home for the others. What can I say, except this is my favorite pizza place in all the land. I've been coming here year after year for over 20 years with my family and this time even made it all the way out here while visiting from my new home in Seattle. Yeah, I traveled across the country and stopping here for my favorite slice of NY style pizza was a must. This place holds a special place in my heart because it never changes - for the better. It's a small pizzeria where the staff is quick, knows how to bang out amazing pizza and is always consistently the BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE - and that says a lot coming from a foodie that grew up in NJ and NYC. I had two cheese slices this visit and they were just heavenly. The pizza is always thin and crunchy, the sauce is a little sweet, and there is a perfect layer of cheese that glosses over the entire slice that is melted to perfection. 5 stars is a stretch but 4 seems just right Good spot, and certainly an institution within Flushing. The only spot I could find on the way to LGA amidst a sea of Chinese written signs. The place has been around since before the ship landed and I feel it's going to be there til the end as well... Everyone and their mother was stopping in here for a quick slice or two and I have a feeling that's really the way to go: Grab a slice on the run and get out. Pre-COVID-19: Lucia's is the staple pizzeria in Flushing located right at the back entrance of the 7 subway station. Residing in the neighborhood, it was my go-to for pizza slices or pies for dinner after a strenuous day after work and wanting something not Asian. You can order ahead and pick up in 20-30 mins, which I prefer, but the wait isn't too bad as they pop out pizzas frequently for locals everyday. The food is always good and never had a bad experience with the crust being overly burnt and the price is right for NY pizza. The small shop is always full because the pizza here is delish and space is limited. I especially enjoy their spinach cheese pizza with some garlic knots. They have a limited menu of flavors which is good for those who hate choosing from a immensely dense menu. Prices are definitely affordable. Accepts cash and card. No bathroom here! Been looking for a new local pizza place for a while. Most of the places I tried , the crust either tasted like cardboard or pizza was very oily, and othe times it had no taste. Browsing on Yelp , I came upon this place, so figured let's give it a try. I can honestly say I found my new local pizza spot. The pizza is your basic New York style pizza. No fancy crust or ingredients. It also didn't cost a fortune. When I got there there was a line, with orders constantly coming in. After placing the order, I was told it would be around 30 min. While waiting I could see many more orders coming in through the phone and people coming by ordering. For me that's always a good sign. Unlike other places where they have multiple pies on display...this place was too busy keeping up with the orders. The pizza itself had a perfect sauce to cheese to crust ratio. The crust wasn't overly thick and actually had taste to it. The other thing I noticed is there pizza wasn't burnt...no matter how many pies they made. For me , this is the best pizza in Queens by far. I would give it five stars, but they were a bit short on the toppings. I ordered pepperoni and meatballs, the meatballs were hardly visible. Looking for non-Asian food options in the hood, it's only natural I came across Lucia Pizza, one of the oldest businesses in downtown Flushing. I came in with the expectation that it would be good, but I wasn't expecting how addicting the actual pizza is. It was good enough to give a thumbs up, but great enough to warrant many visits back. The interior is something out of the 1980s, somewhat antiquated with the added bonus of feeling divey due to the narrow interior. The decor is virtually nil with only enough counter seats for a quick meal and open kitchen. Majority of their orders revolve around take-out and plenty of cash. Don't let the old school register fool you, they do accept credit cards. The menu prices aren't 1980s friendly, but they are still very friendly for this decade. Regular pizza slices are $2.50 and most pies are $11-18. They also have rolls, calzones, hot heros, pasta, hot wings, and beef patties for between $3-6. They even sell pizza dough for $2.50 and Italian Ices for under $2. For as small as their operation is, I'm really impressed with the variety of stuff they have. Their pizza slices are the quintessential New York Style pizza. Oftentimes people talk about how hot their slices are straight out of the oven, I would let the pizza cool a bit before taking a bite. The simplicity of the pizza is a beautiful thing. I am even more fond of their Sicilian, which is cheesy, airy, and downright delicious. I understand why people would find this pizza nostalgic, even if they didn't grow up eating it. If that's not nostalgic, the grape and fruit punch certainly are. Service wise, the guys are pros. They bake a pizza with a smile and handle delivery orders like it's nothing. I appreciate the fact they are quick and efficient and recognize their regulars. The crust is thin and crunchy, yet doesn't flop around under the weight of the cheese. Maybe it's because there isn't much cheese? Nah. There's enough. It's extremely well-balanced in terms of crust, cheese, and sauce. I'm not giving higher than 4 though, because that's basically all I can really review them on. Omg why have I never given Lucia Pizza a second chance until now? Everyone can have their own opinion about the "best NYC pizza" but I think this is by far the best I've had. The first time around, my cheese slice was soft and mushy but the second time, the pizza was absolutely perfect. My pepperoni slice was crusty on the bottom but not burnt, with cheesy goodness on top. I consider myself to be a Pizza Snob after being spoiled by Queens Pizza King Margherita's in Jamaica. While in the area, I decided to stop in considering this is the only Pizza shop on Main St. In an area saturated with Asian cuisine, finding a old school Italian pizza shop is a rare find. I love the pizza here and chicken parmigiana. I loved the crust. New York thin crust and crispy. Unlike Margherita's, Lucia's lacks an adequate amount of mozzarella on the slice. In order to enjoy pizza, I need low moisture mozzarella. Without it, there's just bread and tomato sauce. The sauce is pretty good and I liked that it was not as acidic and sweet as Gabby's. Priced at $2.50 a slice, you have guessed that the pizza is in high demand due to lack of competition in the area. This is an old school shop with limited stool seating. This is your grab a slice and run kind of shop. Many patrons are stopping in on the way from school and on lunch breaks. They serve other dishes like hot wings, beef patties and subs. I dropped by on my way home for a large pie to go on a Friday night. The place was packed. The guy that handles the money told it would take 20 min, ok fine I will pay and come back since i want to support local businesses. Does he want to take my phone number and name or something? He says no need, and then scribbled something on a piece of paper and handed it to me. I roamed around and returned 25-30 minutes with the said paper. I don't see any large boxes, where's my pizza? What pizza? Oh, they forgot to put my order in, they will make it now. I wasn't going to wait another half hour! I got an apology & "we're busy you know". I guess I should have called in my order in hindsight, I m a reasonable person. But if I didnt request for some confirmation on a piece of paper, I wonder if I would have still gotten a refund? I've eaten the pizza from the spot on Roosevelt for years. So when this opened I was happy to order from it figuring it would be the same. Man was I wrong, had to be one of the worst pizzas I've ever gotten. I ordered a half meatball/half plain pie. When I first opened the box something smelt off, but I went and ate one of the plain slices, not that bad, not what I'm used to from other one though. So I went and grabbed one of the meatball slices, I took two bites and the rest of the pie went into the trash. It was like the meatballs were sour or something. Immediately turned me off. My wife thought the pizza at Lucia was tasteless and did not deserve a single star. She said it was as bad as Dominos. I thought it was a good old school pizza. Not the best anywhere but a pretty good pizza to have, when it is around, but not good enough to go out of the way. One huge negative was that even after the pizza cooled, the cheese would not stick to the pizza. It would come right off and extra effort had to be made to keep it from coming off the slice in a clump. Not a good characteristic of a NY pizza. Above the protests of Karen, I am giving Lucia three stars. Usually we agree on such things. She accused me of losing my taste as I am crazy to think that it tasted good. I really wanted to like this place. We used to order from sals pizzeria but they haven't picked up the phone in months. Ordered pizza twice from here. First time: large pie Came absolutely ICE cold. Which was annoying because we had guests and we had to turn on the oven to heat the pie up. Pizza tasted okay. I ordered through Uber eats and the delivery guy was horrible. Pizza was delivered without a case and the delivery guy rang our bell like a madman. He just kept ringing and ringing and ringing! This got my husband incredibly angry and to be honest me too. We live in a duplex not an apartment building so it was only seconds until I reached the door. Second time ordering: large pizza, chicken parmesan. Again the pizza came ice cold but the day was too hot to turn the oven on. Chicken parmesan was the skinniest chicken hero and cold. Husband didnt really care for the sauce and the chicken was dry. delivery guy called me and told me he was outside. Not true. He completed the job in uber eats so I couldn't even track him and he called me lost. After about 15 mins trying to get him to give me a location so I could help him I finally got my cold order. If you want to be lied to and wait almost 2 hours for a basic pie this is your place. After waiting almost an hour, i called for a status update and they said the pie was on the way. Never showed up. Second call: now they say we need to wait 30 more minutes because they are backed up and refused accept they lied during the first call. We asked for the order to be cancelled and they refused. We had uber eats call them, they told uber eats the pizza left and would be here in 5 minutes. We live 8 minutes away and 25 minutes later still no pizza. We had uber eats call them again and this time the liars told uber that we had cancelled the order and clearly they could see we had not. Honesty gets you further.
