First rule of Pizza places in the NYC area: If you don't see Italian people behind he counter making pizza--it's not going to be good. Trust me on this! The reason is this: When I was growing up in NYC there was no such thing as a Pizza place not owned by Italians--no one would go in there if Italians were not behind the counter. And they made the best pizza and that is how NY got the reputation of having the best pizza. Many of them were immigrants from Sicily. It's not like that anymore because the children of those Italian owners born in the USA did not want to take over the pizza business when their parents retired--they went to college and became lawyers and doctors, etc. So today--most pizza places in NYC crank out bad pizza because they are conglomerates that look like neighborhood pizza places, but are really large LLC's, with central kitchen commissaries trucking in pre-made foods and cans and they hire anyone but Italians to make pizza. Domino's is better. I don't think in Manhattan anymore you can find quality pizza. Again, just look at who is making Pizza in those places. SO, I was giving my niece a tour of my old "hood," and after she said she wants to get some Pizza or something in Gino's around the corner. I discouraged her because the last I was in here, years ago--the old Italian owner sold out to an LLC because his kids did not want to run it and the food was at best a 2 star--it was bad. My niece insisted--I warned here again it may not be great. But I deferred to her request and on our pass earlier looking in the window it looked like some quality people were behind the counter so why not?--let's give it another shot. I ordered the Chicken Parm--always my favorite anywhere. Side Salad. It turned out to be one of the best Chicken Parm I have ever had--best food this place has seen in 30 years! My niece got some concoction of pasta and meat sauce and it tasted great too she gave me some to try. I had to quiz the waitress about what is going on here: She tells me Salvador bought the business about 2 years ago and he employs about 4 chefs that prepare all the sauces and ingredients regularly and even the salad dressing. She says the chicken is not frozen and is breaded fresh. In a neighborhood pizza place they are prepping food the same as a high end restaurant and bring it to table at reasonable prices in a very comfortable atmosphere with polite service and free parking. That is why I gave them 5 stars! I would definitely come back here again next time in the area. In contrast--Most pizza places in the Los Angeles area use canned sauces and frozen chicken and it tastes awful. Most pizza places here have investor absentee owners that don't get their hands dirty are are just going through the motions. You have to pay $35 to $40 for a quality chicken parm in LA the same as the one in Gino's for $25 and I still think Gino's may be better. read more

Ordered via Uber Eats, the penne w/vodka sauce was okay, a bit on the dry side and not enough sauce and the Grandma Pizza was good. I ordered the small size pizza but it was still pretty big for $23.95 - more than a reasonable price point for a Sicilian Pie. Nice to have an above average pizzeria in the neighborhood. Great selection of pizzas to order by the slice or by the pie. I had a chicken marsala slice and paired it with a peroni beer went very well together. Yes they have beer also. This review is for their 18 inch plain cheese pie only. I cannot comment on the ambience of this place or the service because we had a pizza delivered from here through a food delivery service and this is the first time eating food from this place. The pros: the pizza looked the part, appearing like a well executed New York style pizza. The size of the pizza was also great, looking even bigger than the advertised 18 inch pie. The cornicione, or crust edge. Was not too wide or prominent, and the pizza was sauced all the way to the edge, which is what I prefer. Cheese sauce ratio also looked on point The cons: unfortunately, the pizza taste and texture did not nearly match the appearance. The crust was the type that was drier and more cracker like. It had no "chew" to it. It ate more like a flatbread. It also had no flavor. No hint of salty or sweet notes., almost like cardboard. The sauce and cheese were equally flavorless,with no evidence of the addition of hard cheeses or herbs to add some complexity. I took into account the pizza was delivered so I did not expect the pizza to be fresh and hot, but because the crust had those initial characteristics, reheating the pizza made the crust drier and harder, with no good sauce and cheese to save the day. Bottom line: there are many places in the Queens area that produce vastly superior pizza at similar value points, so there is really no reason to subject yourself to this mediocre NYC pizza experience. I used to order from here about 2 times per month. The last two times I ordered were horrible. The first time it was not good, I'd ordered a wrap. The wrap was prepared so sloppy, and tasted terrible. I thought maybe it was just a bad day. On that occasion, the girl at the front desk threw the bag an over the register, which I found to be quite rude. I didn't say anything and decided to just give them one last chance since the previous times I'd had no complaints. This last time I ordered they gave me a pizza pie that did not match the order. (3.5 stars) Gino's is located in a plaza with a Chinese supermarket and a few other businesses which share one big parking lot. When you first walk in, you notice right away there's little room to stand because on your left is the pizza kitchen with the slices on display and on the right are fridges of beverages and a cute little coffee bar. However, don't let the front of the shop fool you because there's actually a bigger dining area if you continue walking inside. They have many members of staff (most are young men around my age but it was still somewhat intimidating having 7-8 pairs of eyes watch me as I make a selection). I'm assuming some of them are servers for the back dining room but since there were no customers at the time, they came to the front to chill with the others. I got garlic knots and a bbq chicken slice. I appreciated them putting my food in a box whereas most places use a paper bag. The pizza was as cheesy as expected and the pieces of chicken were tender so it garnered a 4 from me. I was disappointed, however, on the garlic knots. The flavor was inconsistent between bites as some parts of the same knot were left completely unseasoned and the parts where there was more dough were slightly undercooked which yielded an undesirable grainy taste. If you're one of the many people who attempted to make homemade bread during quarantine and inevitably failed, then you'd know what this texture tastes like. Overall, I did enjoy the pizza so I would come back for that and may also return to dine in and try out their entrees. read more

Everything else looked good, but I only had the grandma and a vodka slice. Maybe next time I'll go for something else. Only if I get the same server though. I ordered delivery from here a few weeks ago and my order wasn't delivered in full. I ordered a chicken parmigiana with noodles, a chicken roll, a pepperoni roll and a slice. All that was delivered was the chicken parmigiana and noodles which I then had to share with whoever didn't get their order. The deliver driver was a Spanish gentleman who didn't speak English. I asked "so you're going to go back and bring me the rest of my order?" To which the driver replied "yes" then I never heard from him again. I understand things happen but fast forward to now I go to order and this store is not allowing delivery to me because their delivery drivers are incompetent. The delivery driver didn't speak English. This is horrible service, and frankly I'm baffled as I've been a frequent customer of this location for the last 2,3 years. They also have slices to go in case you're in a rush. Place has a big seating area, but we chose take out. Service was helpful.
