Very good experience. Purchased a grpon deal, Keith the manager was nice, friendly & very generous in giving my kids free desserts. Chicken marsala was yummy and both entrees portions are enough for my family ! They have the special $3 chicken roll which was a deal too ! Rarely to find a local restaurant with excellent customer serivce

Matese makes my favorite mushroom pies in Queens! They've nailed the perfect balance of buttery flavor, salty cheese, and tomato sauce acidity without slices getting too oily. Crust is a bit on the thicker side, which personally isn't my preference, but tastes great nonetheless. They're my go-to when I'm spontaneously craving beef patties with pepperoni, too, since they're so close to where I live. My only complaint is the older guy behind the counter that makes pervy and off-color jokes towards female customers.

Came here for only the 2nd time earlier today & they are even better. I had the Spinach slice, 2 regulars & a deep dish slice. Deep dish had a great crust & cheese was flavorful. The regular ones I liked too, perfect crisp to it & the cheese was very fresh. The spinach slice was my favorite. Not too salty & not too heavy with super fresh spinach. The older gentleman behind the register was very kind & helpful too. I highly recommend this neighborhood gem.

This place seems like more of a take-out place as we were the only customers but it could also be that we were there at an odd time and chose to sit down and eat. Our server was very courteous and we almost felt like we had booked the whole restaurant for ourselves. He made recommendations and food was brought quickly. The portions are huge, food fresh and delicious and price reasonable. We had a ton of leftovers which we used for lunch the next day. We enjoyed our meal here.

    Shrimp Scampi Single Entree

I think my photo of the shrimp scampi will say enough on its own, but I'll leave some words anyway. I just laughed when I opened up the shrimp scampi. A few cooked shrimp on top of a bed of spaghetti. No sauce, just spaghetti. Btw, I asked for linguini but whatever. I used to love Matese in high school but every time I give them another chance I'm disappointed. This has to be a sick joke or someone has some really messed up taste buds.

Service was minimal at best but they just seemed under staffed honestly. And when the server did come by, she was running quickly to and from. The place was not busy when my friends and I were seated. But there was a back room in guessing that had occupants since she was missing in the front seating area. (There was a two person table occupied in the front near us). My party of three over ordered but that was intentional because, any purchase over $100, you get a free lobster and each of us had items we wanted, figured we would doggie bag the leftovers. All in all a great value. The lunch spread had over 7 dishes and we got the free lobster. I was especially happy to see Fried Milk on the menu as an appetizer. They also provide complimentary salted peanuts and pickled radish and carrot slivers. I recommend the snow pea shoots, fried milk, clams with black bean sauce and the Chinese Broccoli with Filet beef. The other dishes like the lobster, noodles and sweet and sour pork were executed well but just not my flavor profile. And with my food allergy, I couldn't try the shrimp with walnuts but it was my friends' birthday so she ordered that for her treat. It looked great! There's complimentary parking if you validate your ticket with a nearby garage, but you need to spend a minimum.

My family and I had dinner at Chef Wongs Bistro on New Years Day and we were very glad we did. The…read morerestaurant was fairly full and the strangest thing almost all the patrons were wearing their wool hats and coats while seated at their tables. We were famished and only focused on what yummy dishes to order. My wife, son and daughter all contributed their suggestions and we ended up ordering pan fried whole flounder, half of the roast chicken with garlic, filet mignon with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with chicken and salted fish and everyone's favorite dish salt & pepper squid. Once we placed our order and were enjoying the roasted peanuts and free spicy cabbage we realized why everyone had their winter coats on, it felt like they had the AC on and it must have been 55° in the restaurant. I told everyone that once the food arrived things would warm up. Each dish that came out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked and was delicious. The salt & pepper squid with it's minced jalapeños kept us warm enough until the half chicken with garlic and filet mignon and Chinese broccoli came out in rapid succession. The star of the show turned out to be the giant sized pan fried flounder which was not only big but quite scrumptious. Unlike the little scrawny flounder that most other restaurants usually served this was a quite large and very meaty and perfectly cooked. The last dish to come out was a very large plate of chicken fried rice with salted fish. If it were not for the lack of heat, I would have given Chef Wong Bistro 5 stars!

Interesting enough, while the owner is from Wenzhou, their main chef is from Fu Zhou. Hence I definitely see some Fukinese influences here as well, such as their famous Buddha Jumped Over The Wall Soup that requires advance notice. Anyway, the reason I first visited this restaurant was because they have a great lunch special from Monday to Saturday. You can choose three items and a soup for $8, or four items and a soup for $9. I gave that a try a few months back and thought the food was solid. Due to my first experience, I decided to come try their dinner offerings with my family recently. We ordered a bunch of dishes and was overall please. While the best dish of the night may have been the Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, it's hard not to enjoy Ginger & Scallion Twin Lobsters for $29.88 right? The Shi Li Xiang Stir-Fry (Mixed Seafood w/ XO Sauce) and Wenzhou Style Dried Tofu w/ Smoked Pork were pretty good too. Unfortunately, the cold appetizers were not as satisfying. While slightly overcooked, the Boiled Pig Kidney was still decent. The Fried Belt Fish was okay, and I did not really like the Jelly Fish & Cumcumber or the freebies they gave us. As a whole, I thought the dinner was not bad and I would return to try more dishes. Nothing here really blew my mind, but the prices are so inviting.

Either way, when I have a craving for eel, Yuk Jun Gui is where I go. (They have other meats to grill like pork belly and intestines as well.) Their banchan offerings are pretty good and diverse. I love their kimchi, which according to other reviews, are made in-house. On my last visit though, all the meat came out pre-cooked. We asked about that, and they said it's because if it is grilled tableside, there would be too much smoke. I don't remember not being able to grill the meats at the table on previous visits, and hopefully this is not their new standard practice. To me, Korean BBQ is meant to be grilled at the table, not brought precooked and just warmed up on the grill. (Maybe it's because it is winter and they can't open the doors for proper ventilation?) It's certainly not a reason to not dine here, but for me, it does take away from the experience hence a star removed from the rating. However, if you like eel and want to try it grilled, I would recommend Yuk Jun Gui.

The complimentary salad is fresh (grape tomatoes, mango, radish, mozzarella, red onions, grilled chicken) with a light vinaigrette. The complimentary banchan has a good flavor, especially the jalapeno/onion banchan. It's got quite a kick to it! The complimentary soup is light, but still has good flavor. It's great for the cooler weather. The Tako Wasabi is one of the better variations I've had. I love that it comes with seaweed! It adds great texture and extra flavor. The Tako Wasabi has the right amount of wasabi to help clear up the sinuses. It is balanced with the fresh herbs and cucumber. The Chili Mayo Fish Jerky was a newer starter, so I had to try it. I love that it's cut like chips and warmed up slightly. Great flavors with a bit of a kick. Must get if you love fish jerky. I usually get the Flying Fish Roe Rice. It has a great variety of flying fish roe plated neatly on top a perfectly cooked rice. Be sure to press the rice against the (super hot) bowl to get as much crispy bits as possible. I enjoy the eating it with the seaweed. Consistently great Korean spot.
