It's a family staple not only to us but for many others out here in Katy. Tasty cafeteria-style food/service, my go-to is the Luann Fried fish with a side of macaroni and cheese. But honestly, you can get almost anything here and won't be disappointed. You can just look for what catches your eye, literally, just look. They have all their food on display so you can decide what you want based on what you see is on the menu for the day. Their sweet tea is the best! The staff is amazing here; they really get to know their customers over the years. The familiar staff always carries our trays to the table the moment they see us checking out. So went to Luby's after church today with my wife and 5yr old. Everything started out as standard got our food and after we paid for it one of the staff offered to help us with one of the trays which we were grateful for. When asked where we wanted to sit my wife asked for a booth and the only one that was clean at the moment was a corner one towards the back. We sat down and started wondering if a server would come to get our trays but no one ever came. The entire 40 minutes we sat to eat. We noticed that every other table around us had servers coming up taking trays, offering refills on drinks and asking if they needed anything multiple times. Towards the end I told my wife we should lower the 8 dollars cash tip we got at the register to leave and at first we were going to leave just 5 but my wife got mad and left the 3 and then added another dollar (total 4 10%) because we never saw a server and were just forgotten. We've eaten there many times and never were forgotten. At one point my wife even went and got us refills on our drinks on her own cause she was tired of being ignored. The only time a server even spoke to either of us was when we got up to leave and by their cleaning station the one waitress from our section mumbled to her "Thank You". We've eaten at this Luby's several times as we come after church pretty regularly and never were treated like that before.b read more

I went to Lubys got 2 fried fish kids meals. I get home 1 of the meals don't have fish in it at ALL. Just the sides. I've had them mess up with the sides before but NEVER the main part of the dang meal. That's crazy. And when I call the restaurant /manager he ask did the person look over the meal with you??? NO HE DIDN'T!! He told me what was SUPPOSED to be in the meal but clearly it wasn't. And then to act so nonchalant like oh well.... piss me off even more. read more

I decided to eat something a little on the home-cooked healthier side. Decided on Luby's and was impressed by the salmon with fresh vegetables. Our waitress Hilda was very attentive and the manager Genova was also an awesome addition the the experience . all in all the food was above my expectations and the staff from the servers to the waitress and the manager created an awesome lunch with my son. Food was ok. Service...not so much. Ordered Manager's Special chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken to go. Asked about cream gravy and was told server at next station would take care of it. I then ordered sides and rolls, then paid. Drove home, opened dinners, no cream gravy. Ok, things happen sometimes, so I called restaurant. I was told by a woman that said she was the manager that it was MY fault I didn't get gravy, because I didn't check it before I left the cafeteria. No apology, no offer to make it right. I was just served a terribly tiny plate of food and charged almost $16 dollars. I ordered in the drive through and was truly shocked when I saw my plate. I have been ordering this dish for years and I have NEVER gotten a serving like this. This has to be some sort of joke! Is this the way they think they will build their brand and earn customers that return day after day? Hell no. This is the way you make sure people NEVER come back. This also did come with a piece of cornbread...but I would be embarrassed to serve this to a paying customer if this was my restaurant. I will never be back. When I want a meal that seems more like a homemade meal I order from Luby's Cafeteria. I usually order their roasted chicken and two veggies and a slice of carrot cake. Because I am restricted from digesting any type of nut I decided to try another type of dessert. They were out of the apple cobbler so I decided to get a slice of chocolate cake. I am not a fan of chocolate unless it's German Chocolate Cake. I thought that I would have regretted ordering the chocolate cake but it was delicious. Very moist and not that deep chocolate that leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. I have discovered a dessert that I honestly like. If you are a chocolate lover then I recommend their Chocolate Cake. read more

I am trying my best to give a positive review but it's extremely hard. I only show up here because I am a member of the VFW and this is where we meet on Tuesdays, for now. I have tried many different items, and so far this one really upset me the most. To make Green chicken chili one must have the foundation of hatch chili which this clearly does not have!!!! I would like to say that I was extremely upset after several times of feeling rushed when ordering here, not receiving everything like utensils and condiments when going through the drive through and I left a nasty review which is not acceptable. One of the managers, Ignacio did come out and offer me a refund and allowed me to have a plate free of charge. This was kind of him but I still will not return I did but want to get his staff in trouble because of my complaint but the drive through workers could change a few things like not rushing people to order and having an attitude when they ask questions about the menu. read more

I was literally and physically pushed aside by some old dude who had already blared his horn at my family in the parking lot. We told staff who looked at us like we were crazy! Down home, comfort food. Listen I don't go to Lubys often, but when I do I do! Mama made a great suggestion this day. We dogged the food lol! I've gone to Luby's since I was little. I love coming here! The food is always so good and so fresh! I usually get the chopped steak with a few sides. The Mac and cheese is my favorite here! In my opinion, the best Mac and cheese I have had! The cheese is just right! I've also had the chicken fried steak, jello, and chocolate cake which are also really good! The food options and portions are perfect! You can pick larger or smaller portions. I also like that they have a drive thru. There are days that I don't want to sit in the restaurant, but I want to eat Luby's at home. The food comes out in a timely manner. You don't have to wait long and it's not fast food. The price is right for what you get. The staff is always friendly! It's busy on Sunday's so if you go that day, go earlier. read more

Somebody made the decision to serve plastic boxed grocery store pies topped with cream and damp crust to the public. Not buying it again. Luby's is a hit or miss type of environment. Most times it's a miss when I venture from my normal liver & onions order. And even it doesn't hit the spot sometimes, that's rare though. I've tried the following not including my fave: -pork chop (made me sick, never got it again) -chicken fried chicken (yeah no) -chicken fried steak (disgusting and batter tasted funny) -fried fish (overcooked on the outside, kinda dark looking and not that flaky) -meatloaf (ok but doesn't hold a candle to my homemade) Sides (tip: you can get 3 instead of 2 for only about a buck more): -fried green tomatoes (cooked too hard) -fried veggies (yum) -fiesta style mac and cheese (delicious) -mixed sauteed veggies (pass) -mashed potatoes (hard to mess that up) -fried okra (love) -new potatoes (again hard to mess up) -broccoli (sauteed and good but basic) Can't speak on desserts or drinks as they are waaaaay too pricey! This place is very good. Food always taste good and they never mess up on our order. The prices are also very good, never cold and that's why we always come back. I would give this place 5 stars but every time I call you place a to-go order, they never ever pick up the phone. I always have to call to speak to the manager just to get a hold of someone to take my order. Also the breakfast is absolutely horrible.
