Fried fish kids meal. Missing jello.
    Liz I.

We went for lunch, and my daughter enjoyed a free kids meal, I asked for jello several times for the kids meal and was told they didn't have any or they don't know. My daughter loves jello, we also noticed they were missing many items at the salad bar, and did not refill the salad bar right away, customers were clearly upset. My daughter was also upset and almost had a temper tantrum ( child is only 2 yrs old) because I promised her jello and they didn't have any. Some ofstaff seemed overwhelmed and unhappy. Our waitress was very polite and sweet she was a great help to us, she was a young lady with long brown hair. We really enjoyed our food today. And I also got a free dessert for my birthday. I enjoy being part of the Luby's club online and getting freebies. Definitely, coming back soon for some more yummy food.

The place looked clean and the staff was nice. Stopped in and got a Togo meal. Was in the mood for a hamburger steak but walked out with a chicken fried chicken. Becuse the steak looked dry It's over salted which is a shock becuse it's an old persons restaurant. The mashed potato's are blah and they are dry without the gravy but the Mac n cheese is the best thing on the plate. Overall. Not bad but wouldn't order anything but the Mac in cheese again

Good Ole Lubys. Never had a bad experience at any location, but I hate barely seeing places like Lubys around. I prefer to eat whole meals, rather than the typical fast food joint. Lubys fish has never let me down. Yams taste like my granny yams with the pecans and added marshmallows, and the mash potatoes and gravy is good as well. This location can get fairly busy, but the service has always been great and I've left satisfied every visit.

I really want to write a love letter to Luby's, but I can't. Chances are if you're reading this review, it's because you've never actually been to Luby's. Which means you didn't grow up in Texas. The Cafeteria restaurant is a Texan institution. It doesn't have the same glory as Tex Mex, Mex-Mex, Vietnamese, Steaks, and Barbecue. But a solid cafeteria can deliver home cooking (at an industrial scale) that it's hard to find elsewhere. There used to be several competing chains of Texas style cafeterias. Not any longer. I just happened to be driving by this location and got a hankering for Chicken Fried Chicken. CFC? It's a chicken breast made in the style of Chicken Fried Steak. CFS? Chicken Fried Steak is our interpretation of Wiener Schnitzel - Breaded Veal Cutlets - where the veal is replaced by beef. CFC + Yams + Macaroni and Cheese (White cheddar, please) + some Iced Tea = happy camper. Luby's rendition of CFC is really good. Right amount batter, good white gravy. The Yams were actual yams, not mashed sweet potatoes, and the Mac and Cheese was on point. Service wise, my waitress refilled my ice tea quite regularly. Decor and Ambiance - Luby's has certainly updated. The Luby's of old was a dark, maroonish, cordoned off image of the 70's and 80's. The new Luby's is the exact opposite. Bright and cheery, open spaces, lots of light, and looks like they imported some staff from Chick Fil A. Lots of families, older folks, and even some young people in the place. Although I very much doubt that the Hipsters will "discover" it. I dropped about 12 on the meal, and was very satisfied for it.

I ordered the fisherman's platter which came with the choice of blackened, grilled, or fried catfish and shrimp, hush puppies, fries, crawfish etouffee, and salad. The portion size is HUGE - I could only eat half of what came out even though I was starving. The fries are some of the best fries I've had - they were crispy, seasoned well, and had a nice thick doughy potato consistency which I love. Everything tasted very fresh. The catfish filets were heavily seasoned and thinner than I would have liked but it was nice and flakey with a beautiful crisp to it. The etouffee had an abundance of crawfish in it (nice to know they don't hold back) and wasn't overly salty like I feel it often is at other restaurants. While it's mainly a serve yourself after you order, the food is brought out by the employees and they routinely check in on you, asking how things are and if you need anything. Everyone here has a great attitude and are very kind and helpful. I will absolutely be recommending this restaurant to the rest of my family. :)

It's always fresh and there's rarely a long wait time. The one thing we never like is the cornbread. It's always dry and not sweet. I've never had any drinks or desserts. The service and staff are always professional and hospitable. We always say we'll try different proteins, but those are our go to's. The parking lot is pretty big since there are other restaurants in the same area. I never have issues with parking. I've gone through the drive through twice and there was one time the order was not correct. I did take a friend once since they have HH mentioned on their website during the week. However, the HH was $2 more than what was advertised and we had to go to the bar to order drinks. We decided not to order drinks due to the price and having to get up from the table. Overall, good spot if you want some soul food and don't want to cook.

After submitting an inquiry form online, they emailed me back with an official catering form to fill out & return which I did. I had to call them to follow up and they said they didn't get my order form so I emailed it to them again. Still didn't hear back, so I reached out again and again, they didn't receive my form. They had to take my order manually over the phone at that point. On the day of my event, I had set pick up time for noon. I didn't arrive for pick up until 12:30. My event started at 2pm and was 30 mins away. Upon arrival, they said my order wasn't ready and they were dropping the fried chicken & catfish into the fryer at that moment. How was my order not ready for pick up by noon like the order form had stated??? Mind you- the restaurant was completely empty at the time as well. The food showed up late to the event. Very disappointing in the way they handled that. All they did was apologize and that was it. I do not recommend ordering catering from this establishment.

Come on now child…read more I bought 3 plates (#1- meatloaf, mash potatoes, arancini #2-roast beef, mash potatoes, Mac and cheese #3- beef enchiladas, Mexican rice, and beans) and 2 pies (lemon meringue and raspberry cheesecake). Total was $51.47. All I can say is..where is the salt?! Seasonings?! Love?! I regretted going in the moment I walked in, but I ordered anyways. The meatloaf was probably the best out of the 3 plates, and even that wasn't good. The roast beef was not good. Let me tell you, you can get a cheap cut of meat and still make it taste good. But this cut was cheap and not prepared correctly. It was a sad sad lunch. I got side eyes the whole time at lunch because I chose the lunch spot. The pies were good. Out of the lemon meringue and cheesecake, I preferred the lemon meringue. I would be surprised if they made the pies in house, because if they do, great for them. They should just be a bakery. Regardless, I will never..NEVER return. I'm sorry to whoever's mamas or grandmamas in the kitchen, but they need to retire. I said what I said.

As I was ordering and asking questions, I found it to be a little hard . It was a language barrier. The steam table consisted of spaghetti, meatloaf, baked chicken, dressing, chicken fried chicken and steak, green beans and corn. They had deviled eggs that looked good. I like my deviled eggs sweet so I asked her were they sweet and she keep repeating no no deviled eggs So I passed on them. I also got a wheat roll which was so old and hard when I pieced off of it , it crumbled The food was actually ok but not hot at all. The meatloaf plate was$11.50 and the spaghetti was $8.50. The decor was super old and brought back memories of my family going to eat after church on Sunday in the 80s. Would i go back here again I probably would. I'd just try something different.
