I have mixed feelings about Luby's. I grew up eating at Luby's and I always liked it. Being a child going through the line having a choose your own adventure lunch after church was always so fun. As an adult, I'm less enthused or impressed... We only come to Luby's when someone invites us and even then we debate just coming home and finding something for lunch. It's not that it's gross, it's just that it's hit or miss with very limited options. If you're looking for healthier foods, you can find some... but the flavor is lacking. As far as side dishes go, there are some vegetable options or a salad. If you're looking for not so healthy options, there are plenty... the fried fish in its weirdly rectangular shape is my favorite. Lubys use to be great. It was fairly priced good food with good portions. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As a family, it was one of our go to places to take kids.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Lubys macaroni has always been legendary. I'm not sure whar has happened lately. If its this location or all. They are super stingy on their servings now. They wont fill their scoop when serving. Maybe 3/4 full at best. Ive even seen them serve food on the plate then remove some...like they are worried they gave you too much. The sides use to heap over...now they don't even fill the little bowl. Their macaroni has also lost its magic. It just tastes bland and lifeless now. Its never changed in the 40 years ive gone to Lubys but it definitely different. What a crappy experience. I ordered the liver and onions, it was cold and hard. The server walked over and I asked for a warm plate. He asked if he could microwave it. I asked for a new plate. He told me they were making more and brought it out promptly. He never came back to check on us. Wouldn't make eye contact. He checked on the two surrounding tables in This/his area. My husband had to get up and get us refills. I had to get back up to ask a manager for to go boxes. This young man is in the wrong industry. He definitely needs training. I hope there's a manager watching cameras. We are very good tippers having worked in the food industry years back. Do better Luby's! Yes I'm over 60. Yes I have closed down a Luby's before on a dinner date. I love that I can choose from a variety. We get a military discount and the folks in the line snd floor personnel are always super pleasant. The lone cashier was a bit grumpy but it was 2:30. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My only complaint is the restrooms. They're awful and the hallway smells worse than the actual restroom. Replace a commode seat or two, fix the towel dispensers snd have someone on hourly rotation to clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Otherwise keep that fresh food coming. Meat labeled as pork chop with mushrooms, however; it was ground pork. The meat wasn't fully cooked. Sent it back and it was labeled as mushroom turkey. I didn't eat it. I hate that this place has had less-than-satisfied patrons because there are so few of them left. The food is very good. Very consistent, very well prepared. If you are looking for the Luby's of 15 years ago with cloth napkins this ain't it. But the food quality and execution is very good. It's good old fashioned cooking. Today I discovered they have a Monday fried catfish special and it was terrific. Perfectly prepared, crispy, mild. Exactly how a piece of fried catfish should be. Service was attentive and thorough. A lot of their employees have a lot of ownership over their areas and make sure you are taken care of. If all of these close I am going to be very sad. read more

Food was ok on thanksgiving. Tall man w/beard standing behind food was angry & talking about walking out on the job & how they want him to do some other stuff. He was the man who served my mashed potatoes. My silverware was wrapped up in a nasty,dirty napkin. Spoon/fork had dry food stuck to it. Napkin had food dried on it.Waitress walked away when called.A young man who worked there brought me another set. Whoever wraps up silverware knew this & still wrapped up the dirty silverware in a clean napkin,soiling it and placed it with the rest. All the black ppl working behind the food did not look very happy & the tall one was the only one speaking out. I'm not sure I will be back. This is the 1st time I been to this location. The green beans and black-eyed peas were good. The tartar sauce was fabulous. I would eat that on anything. My daughter had the salmon, red potatoes, sweet potato casserole, a white roll, and a mandarine jarrito. She was thoroughly impressed with everything and loved her meal. Little #2 ( who survives on air) liked her orange jello and Mac n cheese. Also, had the cherry pie and red Velvet cake - both good. It's been over a decade since I have been to luby's. This year decided to have Thanksgiving dinner the day before with my family just so no one has to cook and clean up. No stress is the best! You have different booth options, long table.for big groups, and small table set ups.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Make you way to the line and basically they have a menu on the wall that kind of explains how to order. Cafeteria style! Grab a tray and see the food and let them know what you want. Typically it's 1 meat and 2 sides. Soda fountain drinks available as well. If your tray is a bit full then they can help you bring your tray to your table. Easy peasy. Literally for 4 adults and 2 kids we paid $47. They definitely come and check on you often. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restroom were decently clean and multi stall . The inside dining area is clean as well. They are constantly walking around and sweeping or wiping down tables[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I didn't even know there were any Luby's still around till recently. The one on my side of town closed awhile back. Growing up, Luby's was our go to lunch spot after church every Sunday. So for old times sake, some family and I decided to have lunch here on a weekday. To my surprise, this spot was busy like a Sunday afternoon. My first observation after all these years was that all the salads and desserts were individually packaged in containers now. It didn't have that homey vibe like it once had. The entrees and sides were the same as I remember it with a few new additions. My go to since I was a kid has never changed. I always go with the chicken fried steak, with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese and jalapeño corn bread. Depending on how hungry I am, I'll get an additional side of fried okra. Taste wise, everything tasted just like I remembered. It's good ole comfort food. What we did notice was how room temp/lukewarm everything was. I'm not sure if they're steam tables aren't working or if this is what they do on purpose. The meal would've been much better with hotter food. Overall, this was a pleasant experience. It really did take us back to the good ole days and the food wasn't bad. Would I come out of my way from Pearland? Not likely. I'd stop by if I was in the area or invited back here. read more

If I could give zero stars for customer service, I would. I had a terrible experience picking up a mobile order here and feel compelled to share. I arrived and waited several minutes at the takeout counter while multiple employees looked directly at me and did absolutely nothing to acknowledge or help me. There's a sign that clearly says "pick up your mobile orders here," so after being ignored for a while, I reasonably assumed you just grab your own food -- especially since no one was doing anything. As I reached for my bag (which had my name on it), a woman named Sidney abruptly snapped at me in an unnecessarily rude and hostile tone. When I calmly tried to explain that I had been standing there and no one helped or said a word, she defensively cut me off with "they don't work takeout, I do," and proceeded to interrupt me mid-sentence to help the customer behind me -- as if I wasn't even worth finishing a conversation with. She was rude, dismissive, and clearly has no understanding of how to speak to customers. If she is the face of your takeout operation, that's a huge problem. She needs serious customer service training -- or a new role that doesn't involve interacting with people. I've always really liked Luby's- but this has been the worst experience I've had. read more

The food was horrific ugh! I only ordered vegetables because I felt like they would be safe. The weren't. The squash was to tough to chew which tells me that it was old, past cooking. My okra was probably fried twice, it was nasty. I gave 1 star because my green beans were good. My husband's chopped steak was cold and his broccoli was too tough to chew. Lubys It's against state/county laws to block exits from people leaving with boxes and tables. I'm sure the food will be great... but putting boxes up to channel/control the flow of people leaving isn't good. If it's to prevent people from going ahead and seating themselves, the same amount of manpower would be all that is needed right now. Just a word of advice. read more

Normally, I like Luby's and don't have complaints. However, I ordered their holiday meal for our Christmas Eve dinner and I am very disappointed. The $99 fully roasted turkey breast is pale and looks raw! The juices in the bag are pink not clear. I called as soon as I opened the bag thinking their was a mistake. I spoke with 2 different ladies, who took an attitude with my questions. I was told the turkey was fully cooked, no it wouldn't have a golden color like the advertisement and this is how it is shipped to them. SHIPPED! I thought they would cook the food there. I expected it to be fresh. Isn't that what Luby's always advertises? The turkey had no flavorings. So for $200 I got an unappetizing turkey breast, 1 pound of sliced ham (no flavoring or coating), 1 quart each of mashed potatoes, corn, Mac & cheese, gravy and rolls but not the wonderful yeast rolls they serve but something I could buy in the store!! Lunch on 5/15/25. Luann plate: 1/2 Almondine fish, spinach, new potatoes. Fish was very undercooked w/o flavor. Spinach was stringy and right out of a can. New potatoes had many black spots in skin and into the potato [I had to cut most of the spots out], and no flavor. Dinner roll. Butter. Water. It all had a bad taste to it, & smelled like hot dirty dish water. Hey they are still in business! And this was my best visit since the 1980s! A throwback to the old times with good, hot food, efficient and friendly service, cleanliness perhaps! I hope they are going retro to this times permanently so they can stay in business! Really my food was great! And the veggies were even better than the old days as my squash was FRESH and not over cooked and mushy. It was perfect! And they still have the good ole green jello salad that brings back so many memories. And they have fresh baked huge cookies. I have always loved to go to Luby's to get liver and onion because I'm the only one that eats liver and onion at home so I don't cook it often. This time it was horrible. Yesterday was my first visit. I was disappointed with the assortment of food and no signs to tell you what everything was so you could have made an informed choice. I ended up with chicken fried chicken.; it wasn't the best I ever had and it wasn't the worst. My grandson didn't find anything appealing, so he ended up with mediocre Mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes and roll he was disgusted by. The only thing he liked was chocolate cake. By the time we got to our table my broccoli was cold, but not overcooked, carrots were good and tender but peas mushy, roasted red potatoes were ok. A non busy Saturday night after a day of shopping at Hobby Lobby. It was fairly clean and the line staff were very helpful and nice. I got the luann liver and onions with brown gravy on the side. The liver was very tender and cooked perfectly. However, the onions were not grilled like how I like them. It was very crunchy, as if they were freshly cut. But it wasn't too bad. When you walk in everything smells healthy. I wanted a salad but I couldn't find anyone to help me. But once I was finally helped service was spectacular. So many choices to choose from. So I will get this one and that one- For real.. I got the baked white crusted fish and tarter with cabbage and corn to all go along with my salad. My salad was beautiful -eggs, onions, cheeses, cucumbers. I added the balsamic vinaigrette. My salad was so good and tasty that I almost began to scrap the bowl. My fish and tarter was just right after a few drops of tabasco. Actually I should've gotten the the half slice because the whole fish filled me up quickly. The corn was good, I just do not like the little curved bowls because my corn keeps falling out into the table. I lost some good kernels today. The cabbage was ok I believe I will order something different next time. My table monitor/attendant needs help in customer service. After watching a movie at nearby theater, a friend recommended giving Luby's a try. Went on a Tuesday, around 3pm. I would say they were at 60% capacity at that time. This was a cafeteria style restaurant where you get a chose your dishes and staff prepares it for you on the other side of the tray line. Got our trays and started in line ready to pick our main dish. We got the option of a main dish with 2 sides. The selection was huge, from enchiladas, beef, chicken, fish, Turkey, and more! Not to mention the many choices of sides. I decided on the Salisbury steak, with mac n cheese, and rice. Got seated and dug in. Steak was excellent, topped with a gravy sauce and sautéed onions. Rice was good but the mac n cheese was very dry. Ended up not eating it. Our waitress, Rhonda was fantastic! Very attentive and even refilled our drinks without even asking. Now that's service, when your waitress can anticipate when you want refills! Overall, I had a fantastic experience at Luby's near Gulf Freeway. Food was great and the service was excellent. Other things that were of concern are only having 2 options to choose from on soups, especially when they had so many options on everything else.
