Fried fish kids meal. Missing jello.
    Liz I.

We went for lunch, and my daughter enjoyed a free kids meal, I asked for jello several times for the kids meal and was told they didn't have any or they don't know. My daughter loves jello, we also noticed they were missing many items at the salad bar, and did not refill the salad bar right away, customers were clearly upset. My daughter was also upset and almost had a temper tantrum ( child is only 2 yrs old) because I promised her jello and they didn't have any. Some ofstaff seemed overwhelmed and unhappy. Our waitress was very polite and sweet she was a great help to us, she was a young lady with long brown hair. We really enjoyed our food today. And I also got a free dessert for my birthday. I enjoy being part of the Luby's club online and getting freebies. Definitely, coming back soon for some more yummy food.

The place looked clean and the staff was nice. Stopped in and got a Togo meal. Was in the mood for a hamburger steak but walked out with a chicken fried chicken. Becuse the steak looked dry It's over salted which is a shock becuse it's an old persons restaurant. The mashed potato's are blah and they are dry without the gravy but the Mac n cheese is the best thing on the plate. Overall. Not bad but wouldn't order anything but the Mac in cheese again

Good Ole Lubys. Never had a bad experience at any location, but I hate barely seeing places like Lubys around. I prefer to eat whole meals, rather than the typical fast food joint. Lubys fish has never let me down. Yams taste like my granny yams with the pecans and added marshmallows, and the mash potatoes and gravy is good as well. This location can get fairly busy, but the service has always been great and I've left satisfied every visit.

I really want to write a love letter to Luby's, but I can't. Chances are if you're reading this review, it's because you've never actually been to Luby's. Which means you didn't grow up in Texas. The Cafeteria restaurant is a Texan institution. It doesn't have the same glory as Tex Mex, Mex-Mex, Vietnamese, Steaks, and Barbecue. But a solid cafeteria can deliver home cooking (at an industrial scale) that it's hard to find elsewhere. There used to be several competing chains of Texas style cafeterias. Not any longer. I just happened to be driving by this location and got a hankering for Chicken Fried Chicken. CFC? It's a chicken breast made in the style of Chicken Fried Steak. CFS? Chicken Fried Steak is our interpretation of Wiener Schnitzel - Breaded Veal Cutlets - where the veal is replaced by beef. CFC + Yams + Macaroni and Cheese (White cheddar, please) + some Iced Tea = happy camper. Luby's rendition of CFC is really good. Right amount batter, good white gravy. The Yams were actual yams, not mashed sweet potatoes, and the Mac and Cheese was on point. Service wise, my waitress refilled my ice tea quite regularly. Decor and Ambiance - Luby's has certainly updated. The Luby's of old was a dark, maroonish, cordoned off image of the 70's and 80's. The new Luby's is the exact opposite. Bright and cheery, open spaces, lots of light, and looks like they imported some staff from Chick Fil A. Lots of families, older folks, and even some young people in the place. Although I very much doubt that the Hipsters will "discover" it. I dropped about 12 on the meal, and was very satisfied for it.

Ive even seen them serve food on the plate then remove some...like they are worried they gave you too much. The sides use to heap over...now they don't even fill the little bowl. Their macaroni has also lost its magic. It just tastes bland and lifeless now. Its never changed in the 40 years ive gone to Lubys but it definitely different. Very consistent, very well prepared. If you are looking for the Luby's of 15 years ago with cloth napkins this ain't it. But the food quality and execution is very good. It's good old fashioned cooking. Today I discovered they have a Monday fried catfish special and it was terrific. Perfectly prepared, crispy, mild. Exactly how a piece of fried catfish should be. Service was attentive and thorough. A lot of their employees have a lot of ownership over their areas and make sure you are taken care of. If all of these close I am going to be very sad.

The place was packed and there was a line of people waiting - I knew that was a good sign! The line moved fast and the staff were like worker bees - everybody getting the tables cleaned, people seated and orders taken with in minutes of sitting down. Mary the Manager never missed a beat - she was making it all happen and made it look effortless - with a smile on her face. Our server SAL was top notch, explained everything on the menu that I drilled him about - really painted a picture of what the items was all about, helped me with making a selection! Give that kid a Gold Star - he is my server for life at Red OAK. He took care of us with a smile and quick service, what a shining star they got when they hired him! Now for the food - mercy is all I can say - the biscuits were out of this world - flaky, fluffy and fabulous! I got the Breakfast special and everything on the plate was perfect - the bacon was nice and crisp, hash browns were golden and egg really over easy - cooked to perfection. THE Pancakes - eyes rolling back in head - the biggest, fluffy golden brown things you have every seen and the syrup came in a glass carafe that warm syrup was an extra special touch. The coffee was their own brand and the flavors were Pecan and Cinnamon, very smooth, and very hot and refilled often. Do yourself a favor and go to Red Oak Cafe in League City on Main Street and ask for Sal and get ready for a great expericence and excellent food and service! I live in Woodlands Tx and will drive 60 miles again to eat at this place!

Total was $51.47. All I can say is..where is the salt?! Seasonings?! Love?! I regretted going in the moment I walked in, but I ordered anyways. The meatloaf was probably the best out of the 3 plates, and even that wasn't good. The roast beef was not good. Let me tell you, you can get a cheap cut of meat and still make it taste good. But this cut was cheap and not prepared correctly. It was a sad sad lunch. I got side eyes the whole time at lunch because I chose the lunch spot. The pies were good. Out of the lemon meringue and cheesecake, I preferred the lemon meringue. I would be surprised if they made the pies in house, because if they do, great for them. They should just be a bakery. Food: I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu Baked Pasta, and it was pure comfort. Creamy, cheesy, and generously portioned, with tender chicken and ribbons of ham woven throughout. My daughter chose the Strawberry Nutella® Crêpe, which felt like a little celebration on a plate. Light, delicate, and just sweet enough. My husband went with the French Dip au Caramelized Onions. The beef was tender, the onions perfectly sweet, and the jus rich enough to make every bite worth dipping. We couldn't resist taking home pastries, and they were just as lovely later that evening. Service: Friendly and efficient. Orders came out promptly, and the staff kept the line moving without making the experience feel rushed. First of all, what restaurant does not have sausage and bacon when they have the breakfast menu out? How does that happen exactly? Even if the Sysco truck did not bring it, the manager is not aware of H‑E‑B? I mean, go pick some up. At the very least, tell customers, up front, there is no bacon or sausage when they order. Not when they have gone through the line to pay. "Uh. Did anyone mention we do not have sausage?" Me: "No. I'll have bacon then." Him: "Um. We don't have bacon either. How about turkey bacon?" Nobody likes turkey bacon. They plated the scrambled eggs, French toast, and the offending turkey bacon all on one small plate. Normally pancakes or French toast comes on its own plate so it is not tainted with runny eggs or greasy bacon. The Croque Madame was dry, room temperature, and generally disappointing. It was like it was cooked 5 hours prior. The Cesar salad's lettuce tasted of chemicals. Though not crowded, service was horrible. There was not one employee who smiled nor said anything nice at all. To anyone. Ever. Then I saw the manager who looked so miserable and like he did not want to be there. None of those employees had actual printed name tags. All, including the manager, had to write their name on their tags. What place doesn't have printed name tags. It's like their employees are temporary and disposable. And guess what? The lack of service, lack of basic breakfast foods, and cold food reflects all of that. Frankly I did not see anyone one customer who appeared happy. Tables all around us spoke of their own disappointing experience. What has happened to La Madeleine? What I know is I cannot go back. There are too many good restaurants who actually want business. It's a miserable place filled with miserable employees making food that reflects all of that. It's been taken off our list of area restaurants to attend.
