Fried fish kids meal. Missing jello.
    Liz I.

We went for lunch, and my daughter enjoyed a free kids meal, I asked for jello several times for the kids meal and was told they didn't have any or they don't know. My daughter loves jello, we also noticed they were missing many items at the salad bar, and did not refill the salad bar right away, customers were clearly upset. My daughter was also upset and almost had a temper tantrum ( child is only 2 yrs old) because I promised her jello and they didn't have any. Some ofstaff seemed overwhelmed and unhappy. Our waitress was very polite and sweet she was a great help to us, she was a young lady with long brown hair. We really enjoyed our food today. And I also got a free dessert for my birthday. I enjoy being part of the Luby's club online and getting freebies. Definitely, coming back soon for some more yummy food.

The place looked clean and the staff was nice. Stopped in and got a Togo meal. Was in the mood for a hamburger steak but walked out with a chicken fried chicken. Becuse the steak looked dry It's over salted which is a shock becuse it's an old persons restaurant. The mashed potato's are blah and they are dry without the gravy but the Mac n cheese is the best thing on the plate. Overall. Not bad but wouldn't order anything but the Mac in cheese again

Good Ole Lubys. Never had a bad experience at any location, but I hate barely seeing places like Lubys around. I prefer to eat whole meals, rather than the typical fast food joint. Lubys fish has never let me down. Yams taste like my granny yams with the pecans and added marshmallows, and the mash potatoes and gravy is good as well. This location can get fairly busy, but the service has always been great and I've left satisfied every visit.

I really want to write a love letter to Luby's, but I can't. Chances are if you're reading this review, it's because you've never actually been to Luby's. Which means you didn't grow up in Texas. The Cafeteria restaurant is a Texan institution. It doesn't have the same glory as Tex Mex, Mex-Mex, Vietnamese, Steaks, and Barbecue. But a solid cafeteria can deliver home cooking (at an industrial scale) that it's hard to find elsewhere. There used to be several competing chains of Texas style cafeterias. Not any longer. I just happened to be driving by this location and got a hankering for Chicken Fried Chicken. CFC? It's a chicken breast made in the style of Chicken Fried Steak. CFS? Chicken Fried Steak is our interpretation of Wiener Schnitzel - Breaded Veal Cutlets - where the veal is replaced by beef. CFC + Yams + Macaroni and Cheese (White cheddar, please) + some Iced Tea = happy camper. Luby's rendition of CFC is really good. Right amount batter, good white gravy. The Yams were actual yams, not mashed sweet potatoes, and the Mac and Cheese was on point. Service wise, my waitress refilled my ice tea quite regularly. Decor and Ambiance - Luby's has certainly updated. The Luby's of old was a dark, maroonish, cordoned off image of the 70's and 80's. The new Luby's is the exact opposite. Bright and cheery, open spaces, lots of light, and looks like they imported some staff from Chick Fil A. Lots of families, older folks, and even some young people in the place. Although I very much doubt that the Hipsters will "discover" it. I dropped about 12 on the meal, and was very satisfied for it.

Freaking expensive! I ate with my daughters and it was $50 for 3 Luanne platters and tea. Their prices have increased tremendously.

We asked if we could kindly be seated in another booth to be told the open ones were 'closed' (no clue why it didn't exactly seem like they were in their own section). The next booth she offered us was drowning with the sun. Luckily, all we had to do is look at her, and she immediately offered us a normal booth, not next to a stinky dish bin and in a shaded spot. We all ordered something different off the menu. The food was good but the service just seemed very dismissive and not exactly friendly. I would definitely come back and try it again. I'm a strong believer that may be somebody was having a bad day. And I would definitely come back and just buy a pie and take it home because they looked delicious. Sadly, we didn't get the chance to try any of the dessert pies.

Our food came out relatively quickly The menu offers plenty of appetizers, wing options, and other bar foods. The wings come either battered or non-battered. There's also pasta, pizza, and a variety of other dishes you might not typically find at a bar. The drink menu also offers a wide variety from beers, to classic cocktails, to more signature drinks The food isn't amazing. It's bar food, but it'll hit the spot Some tips: If you're in a big group you might have some people get their food a bit before others depending what is ordered. Also, the fries and onion rings options are BIG. Even a regular can probably feed a few people, and you can even mix and match. The ambiance was nice as we walked in, and after being quickly seated next to a window, the atmosphere was nice. They did end up covering the window before we started eating, and the little bulb way above us and candle did not really provide light enough for us to eat (I get it is mood lighting, but I like seeing what I eat). The food was really solid, though. A few times I've been in the past it was all too salty, but this time around it was much better. I got the Farm Bird, and it was very juicy and had a very nice crunch. The Fish and Chips were nice and flaky, while the Pork Chop was extremely juicy and rich. The shrimp in the rigatoni was definitely oversalted, as well as the broccolini greens in the pork chop dish. The appetizers we got (Brussels Sprouts and Spinach Artichoke Dip) were both okay, though I prefer garlic bread to the chip for the dip and the sprouts were a little one note. The whiskey cake itself was very good, though I recommend only one plate for a group of 6 or less because of how rich it is, especially if you get the ice cream addition. Overall a very surprising experience, and while it carries a heavy price tag, it is absolutely a good choice if you're looking for a nicer meal out here.
