I checked out Mikki's Soulfood Cafe with two buddies on a Monday evening for dinner. Parking is a cinch in the large parking lot they share with several other businesses in a shopping center right off 518. There are some things I like about Mikki's and some things I don't like. Let's dive into it. Ambiance (4/5): This is one of the areas where Mikki's shines. The restaurant looks great. It's clean, snazzy, and there's plenty of seating. We sat at a booth. The A/C was blasting so hard that I was a bit cold, but I'd much rather take this than the alternative. They also have a private room for events or more intimate gatherings. Service (2.5/5): This is where part of my problems with Mikki arose. We came to this soul food restaurant for Pearland Restaurant Weeks. For $35, you have a choice of several entrees, sides, and a dessert for $35. My friend looked at what it would cost to order these items individually and it came out to less than $35... weird. I've been to Houston Restaurant Weeks for many years and the beauty of it is that you get a deal while doing good for the community. At Mikki's for Pearland Restaurant Weeks, you do good for the community without getting a good deal. Naturally, we avoided the special menu when we figured out the parking structure. Outside of this mishap, while you order at the counter cafeteria style, we did have a member of the staff stop by to ask how we're doing and we were thanked upon leaving. Drinks (2.5/5): Mikki's has a full bar, and even has daiquiris, but I was well-behaved. I had some Kool Aid which brought me back. I used to drink it as a kid. At Mikki's, for a small Kool-Aid, it's going to run you $4.75. If you've ever had Kool Aid before, you know it's super cheap. I know that restaurants and bars will always charge a premium for drinks compared to a grocery store but $4.75 for a small without free refills?! At pretty much any restaurant, you can get a soft drink or an iced tea with free refills for less than this price point. Just a bit steep. Food (3/5): You'll find a lot of soul food classics at Mikki's like oxtails, fried chicken, catfish, yams, collard greens and more. I opted to go with the beef tips with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. The beef tips are essentially like a beef stew with a little burst of spices. Some chunks of beef were a little too fatty. Some were just right. The mashed potatoes were solid, just a bit dry. The mac and cheese was great. I'd get this side every single time. You also get a dinner roll or cornbread with every entree (as stated on the menu). They didn't offer me my bread, and I had to ask for it. One of my friends didn't get theirs at all. Mikki's can get quite busy on the weekends, it's definitely a popular spot. You'll see pictures of celebrities who have been there including Stephen A. Smith, 50 Cent, Tyrese, and many others. Where's my picture on the wall?! ;) While there are some attractive things about Mikki's, the missteps (seemingly taking advantage of customers a bit to increase their profit margin) soured the experience for me a bit.

I don't think these people are making all the food in the same day. They have pans stacked with wrap, but they're not refilling the food. They're also focused on fixing their own Togo plates for when they leave. The gravy is so think on the turkey wings bc of how old it is, the rice is cold as well. It's 2 hours from closing and she couldn't give me fresh cabbage, but they clearly put out a new pan of Mac and cheese. Though it also looked like it had been out for at least an hour. The cornbread is thin and hard as hell too. So disappointing since it's so close to my house. I feel like I should've just left without getting anything, but I don't have time to go find something else. I also think it's crazy to include the rice as a side when it's apart of the main dish. Probably won't be back.

This wasn't my first time at Mikki's, and definitely won't be my last! I stopped in for a to-go order and grabbed their Soul Food Bowl with that blueberry lemonade and let me tell you, it's everything comfort food dreams are made of. The bowl came packed with tender, flavorful beef tips that were melt in your mouth good. (PAUSE) The yams were sweet and buttery, the mac & cheese was creamy and cheesy, and the greens were seasoned to perfection smoky, savory, and soulful. The cornbread tied everything together with just the right amount of sweetness and fluff. Even though I ordered to-go, the service was just as warm and welcoming as if I were dining in. The staff is always friendly, fast, and clearly take pride in what they do. The vibe inside is full of good energy music playing, people smiling, and the smell of homemade food filling the air. Wasn't packed today either lol. Mikki's truly never misses. Whether it's your first visit or your fifteenth, the quality, flavors, and hospitality are always on point. Can't wait to come back again!

Mikki's Soulfood Cafe has been in Pearland for around 5 or 6 years and I just barely made it here. Mikki's started out in Houston and quickly became very popular. They then opened up this location in Pearland, and have another location opening up Midtown very soon. This location is located in a pretty large shopping strip with some pretty popular eateries, so at peak times, it gets pretty busy. I came with a couple of friends on a weekday and it was very chill and parking wasn't an issue. Walking in, they have a cafeteria style line off to one side, a decent sized dining area, a bar area, and a private dining room off to the other side. I imagine when they are busy, finding a seat could be challenging. Customer service was just ok. The employees were just going through the motions. We each ordered our own meals and I felt like the questions asked were not consistent. For example, they didn't ask what kind of bread I want, they just gave me cornbread. Next guy in line, they gave him options. Last guy in line didn't get bread at all. Not a huge deal breaker, but consistency is always nice. On to the food. Soul food is the name of the game here and they got it all. We didn't partake on this trip, but they got a full bar with all the drinks. Their happy hour looks pretty good and I would love to check that out sometime. It's cafeteria style serving here, so you walk to the line, pick what you want and make your way down to the cashier. Most things are on the line, but some items can be ordered and will be brought to the table. We started off with some fried pickles and Cajun boudin balls. The fried pickle serving was a little on the small side, but I was told they were good along with the boudin balls. My meal was too heavy so I skipped on those. Like mentioned before, they got it all here as far as soul food goes. They have everything from meatloaf, smothered chicken and pork chops, all the way to chitterlings. I went with fried chicken with two sides. You can get a third side for a small upcharge. For my sides I went with mac & cheese and collard greens. You can choose dark or white meat and I went with dark. For me, for the price, you get your money's worth because they don't skimp on the portions. My plate had some weight to it. It came with 3 pieces that were breaded and seasoned to perfection. It was already ready when I ordered it and I wasn't expecting it to be as crispy as it was either. Some of the better fried chicken I've had in awhile. The sides were really good too. Not the best mac I've ever had, but very tasty. The greens had a little bite to them and was a nice reprieve from the other rich food. My cornbread was delicious too. A little pat of butter would've made it just right, but it wasn't offered. I'm sure I could've asked for some. I washed it all down with some good ole red Kool-Aid. I haven't had it in years and it just brought me back to my childhood. They got a few other flavors as well. Our plan was to share some dessert, but we were stuffed. I will get some on my next visit. Overall, I'm ashamed at myself for waiting this long to try Mikki's out. I definitely want to make my way through their menu because all of it looks delicious. I will most definitely be back!

    Fantastic Meatloaf n more !!!
    Michael C.

I knew I eventually needed to try this chain, bc good soul food is simply good for the soul. I went here 3 times recently using drive-thru, bc it was so pleasing. I want to also say that I normally hate most meatloaf, but my gut told me to try it from here when I saw some pics online. It was a mom's style and resembled the ones Black Eyed Pea (mostly gone from here) and Cracker Barrel chains sell, which are the only two places I ever liked meatloaf from. Mikki's here made way for a 3rd place to love a good meatloaf recipe. I ordered a Meatloaf with 2 Sides including collard greens on both and mac cheese on the first visit and mashed potatoes on the second. Every single bite of these two meals was very delicious, moist, seasoned very well, tender and made with proper care. The meatloaf was nicely soft with a very beefy / meaty taste combined with plenty of tomato sauce, onion, bell pepper and balanced salt vibes all in one. You could taste each separately while they paired up well. The outer layer had a nice crust on the edges, while being contrasting in the middle. The mac cheese was certainly rich, creamy, dense and very tasty with a yellow cheddar or Velveeta profile. The mashed potatoes on the other were more neutral in taste, not garlicky or too greasy. They were thick, creamy and potatoey in taste with a mild, but great flavor. Collard greens are one of my 4 favorite veggies ever with mushrooms, celery and brussel sprouts. I had to get these and they were very leafy, very nicely spiced, a pinch sweet, bitter and earthy to a correct level with a refreshing wetness. They were a great compliment to the protein and carbs in both. I also ordered the Turkey Wings with 2 Sides including cornbread stuffing and collard greens. Also, very delicious meal. The turkey wings were very good and tender with a fatty brown gravy sauce to add more excitement. The collard greens I mentioned were obviously great again. The stuffing was a solid A to B+ for me, very good and different. With every meal order, those corn muffins given are so good like a sweet, homemade cake or dessert and completely the opposite of those atrocious ones they have at Kelley's places. Very welcoming, friendly, efficient service on each visit.

So we decided to go by Mickey's soul Sunday forgot it was Sunday and you know how church folks are. They must find food immediately upon exiting church they begin to graze. lol upon first arrival there was plenty of parking due to it being in the shopping center, so no worries about that. The line appeared to be long but once inside we realized it was moving quickly. When I first glanced at the menu. (posted clearly on a lighted sign right in front of the entrance) I was ready to turn around! The prices had increased a lot since my last visit. Fast-forward...DH decided to get the beef tips with two sides (cabbage, and yams) and a soul bowl for me. Yes the prices are high, but the same grace is the food is delicious and they give you plenty of it. One entrée with three sides was more than enough to feed both of us (and we ain't small). Don't forget to take a look at all the celeb pictures they have on their walls... We walk in the shoes of many cool entertainers. I will come again!

We were in the mood for some comfort food, and Mikki's didn't miss. Conveniently located in Pearland , very beautiful restaurant / bar . Friendly servers , online ordering options as well. Variety of Soul comforting food. Started off ordering the smothered chicken but when I saw her making a meatloaf plate I changed my option. Food was priced good and the plates were plentiful. Food was excellent , highly seasoned , fresh favorable vegetables 9.2 / 10 . My favorites that I definitely will get again collards and yams 10/10 !!!

On my way to the hair salon and look what was in the parking lot. Not hungry right now but you never know. Stopped by to get a cool refreshing drink and what better way to wet my whiskers than a large koolaid. I chose the large tropical and I had to slow myself down because it was so delicious. We also had a chance to do a simple photoshoot look at this butterfly picture need this in my life and living room

We ordered a few different things: fried whole wings, dirty rice, yams, cabbage, mango habanero wings, fries, red beans and rice and Kool-aide. The fried wings, rice, fries and cabbage were well seasoned- you could taste the butter in them. My son wasn't crazy about the red beans n rice or mango habanero wings. He said it was more beans than rice and the wings lacked flavor. The Kool -aide was super sweet (as expected), but I added water to make it more palatable. While waiting we talked to some other guests Who decided to wait. Later the cook came out and chatted a bit- he was nice. Overall, food is good just come with patience.

Maybe seasoning them a little more, cutting them in halves, and charring them would've done the job. Peach cobbler was so yummy. I loveeeee how they have offer for preferences with the peach cobbler (more crust, more filling, or neutral) because I personally love more crust. The owner was right there on the line working hard with his employees and the ingredients were real and fresh. It took me such a long time to visit this restaurant because the concepts are not something you see often, after the eating the food it's like a spin on cajun, american comfort soul food with a modern day finish. I don't even speak like this, but after this fantastic meal I couldn't help but to let yall know it's worth a try. The first item I tried was the blackened fish jambalaya & it was really good & looked like it came straight out the pan! however i'm used to bland food so the kick from the seasoning took me back some. I then tried their punch and it was so good words can't even explain. Again packed with flavor , sweet and has a tang from what seems to be lemon. Fresh pineapples and strawberries were in the drink as well, I can honestly say it's one of the best 3 drinks i've ever had. If they sold them by the gallon i'd purchase it just to keep in the house. I even added some water to it when it was almost gone and it still tasted good! It mellowed out some of the sweetness, but not the flavor. I also got the Da Justo Sampler and at first it seemed like a lot and kind of overwhelming, but let me tell you it was so amazing. First of all the grilled cheese was exceptional, the best grilled cheese i've ever had. The wings were sweet and spicy and I didn't even need ranch for them, I thought it would ruin the flavor! & I'm a person who eats ranch with everythingg. The mac & cheese is the perfect example of what mac and cheese should be, the fries were okay though, I wish they were crispier but even with that it didn't stop nothing! Everything is still a 10/10. I went back and tried the Jambalaya a little later & again another 10/10, i've never had Jambalaya before so the flavors were so crazy , but I still found myself not able to put the fork down! The portions are very big from those two meals I got i was able to share with 3 other people and we all had nice portions ( i was not sharing that punch tho!). if your sick of your typical generic food options and want something out the box and worth the price or just want a cheat meal that's worth it, Krack Kitchen is your spot!

On a Thursday afternoon, the place wasn't busy but not empty, which gave my Mom and I the opportunity to catch up without a noisy dining room. The food came out fresh and hot and for the price, we were surprised by the portion since its was the $10 HH burger and fries. The fountain drinks were interesring as well. DS does not have Coke or Pepsi products. They have similiar flavors you would find with those brands. I enjoyed the Mexican Coke. It seemed to not be as fizzy aa your own well know caffenated Compadres but still carried a great flavor. Let me not skip over the dessert! Mom LOVED the pecan pie which she states had whole pecans instead of pieces. I did not wven notice that she had been getting pieces of the pie as we talked. Half of it was gone when we left. That means is pretty scrumptous! I had enough willpower to eat my chocolate chip cookie when I got home and it was worth the wait! Not only is the cookie huge, but the semi sweet chocolate and sea salt is chef's kiss. Grat combo of both worlds. Combine that with the crunchy outisude and chewy, gooey interior and this is one of the best cookies I've tasted in a long time. So glad to dish all this goodness to Yelpers and remind them of another gem in West U that will not only give you a great place to get a bite but satisfy that sweet tooth.

We sat at a booth/table combo. Drinks (4.5/5): I love when a restaurant has more than your standard selection of soft drinks. You'll find that at Dish Society. They have "craft" sodas and a nice selection of juice blends. Plus sweet and unsweet tea. Food (4/5): I went with a cup of the tomato bisque soup and the Nutella French toast. The soup tasted as good as it looked. Some croutons or a piece of garlic bread would have been nice, but outside of that, this starter couldn't have been better. The Nutella French Toast was similarly well done. I love French Toast and I love Nutella. So this was a match made in heaven. Along with some sliced strawberries and some blackberries, I was happy I went with a breakfast dish for dinner (they serve brunch all day). The prices are affordable for the quality of the food. My only complaint? The portion sizes are pretty small. Case in point: two slices of French toast when most places will give you four. Pro tip: Join their club for discounts.
