When in the mood for some sorta home cooking, Luby's is my go to spot. And today, I awoke with their menu on my mind. The only downside to online ordering vs dining in is the menu selection. It's always the same online and does not offer some of my favorites like blackeyed peas, salad varieties, or specials of the day, etc. but I still can find other good choices. Ordered delivery today, and WOW, was I impressed with FAVOR service. That's a separate review to follow. Usual favorite choices; liver/onions w/brown gravy, cabbage, red potatoes, spinach, jalapeno cornbread and a special treat, bread pudding. Yes, way too much, but justified because I knew there would be leftovers for a second meal. First, all portions were very generous. Liver was so tender, could cut with a fork, nicely seasoned, w/lots of soft sauté onions, really liked the brown gravy. All the veges were up to the usual great preparation; tender delish cabbage, spinach was excellent w/a little sprinkle of tabasco, and those red potatoes...they were huge (added a little salt to my taste). The cornbread is my favorite, better than any I've had elsewhere; moist and just the right amount of "kick". And my big undeserved cheat for the week, the bread pudding was absolutely scrumptious; a little unsure about the delicious sauce, possibly of a creamy lemon flavor? Half also left of this, along with the same for the main meal. I've always found Luby's to be consistent, reliable and a good value, I won't wait so long between visits in the future! read more

Was back in Texas for a conference. We were missing Luby's since there aren't any in Oklahoma. While my liver/onions was excellent, my husband's chicken fried chicken was soggy and horrible. He was not going to return it, so I did. One of the waitresses said that many had returned it that day. Guess they had an off day. We left the waitress a nice tip for taking care of us. read more

Mother's Day Lunch 2023 After a lovely afternoon of arts & and crafts, we dashed over to Luby's for a bite. My lady, her sister & mother love this restaurant this My first time dining here. I'm usually not a fan of cafeteria style serving, but I have it a change. I tried the ribeye steak, one chicken tender, great northern beans, broccoli and rice casserole, and corn. A Brawl at Luby's? My brothers birthday day meal was ruined! A very rude employee, wearing a cowboy hat, became hasty & borderline hostile. My protein (chicken fried chicken) was brought to my table by a very nice waitress named Pricilla. After seeing the portion size, I politely requested a different protein altogether. I simply wasn't interested in the serving size. Within a minute , a male employee approached our table. After explaining & showing to him that my freshly cooked protein was 1/2 the size of 2 identical proteins previously ordered by 2 other family members, this employee became hasty & borderline hostile with me. He became ugly then smacked his gums & started to walk away from me. I decided to follow this employee & insisted to make his manager aware of his attitude. Brad, the manager, attempted to hear me out. Then, after briefly explaining my concerns to the manager, "The Rude Guy", interrupted me. He said to his manager, "This is what's going on". After but a few seconds, I again insisted to be heard out. The rude guy was laughing and smirking at everything that I was saying to the manager. Sadly, even the manager was taking sides with the rude guy! He also became passive about my true concerns & began quoting to me his etiquette on portion size at Luby's. The manager has a well rehearsed response to the portion size of their protein. I guess practice makes perfect; as portion size appears to be a constant issue at this location. After allowing the manager to have his say, I continued to explain my concerns about the rude guy. It wasn't until this moment that the manager decided to take me semi seriously. So, I finally was able to tell my story to the manager. Now, the manager, finally knew that I wasn't truly upset with the portion size as much as I was upset with the attitude the rude guy brought to my table. And guess what, the rude guy was still smirking and laughing all the meanwhile blurting his kiddish drama! I felt like I wasn't going to get too far with Brad. So, I told him to deal with the rude guy as this issue wasn't just going away. I walked up to the food line & asked for a fish fillet. So, the rude guy approached where I was at & yes still laughing & smirking away. I heard someone say, from the food line, "there's going to be a brawl"!!! I told the rude guy that he best keep away from me. This really just could have been handled 100% better by a more qualified & professional manager. So, Brad, this is not just gonna go away. Y'all ruined a planned birthday dinner! We went down the street to "The Flaming Buffet" & pleasantly spent $78. And for that wonderful soul, Pricilla, I hope they didn't give you a hard time for telling everyone the truth about that rude guy with the cowboy hat! Honest people are few nowadays... I haven't been to a Luby's in years so since I was in the area I decided to stop by. Just by walking into the restaurant i was welcomed with the smell of amazing food, and the nice workers there. Of course the food isn't gonna be 10/10 because after all it is a buffet, but i would rather Luby's then any other restaurant. Aside from the homey feeling the place is well kept and and clean. After having a good lunch with some family at Luby's and feeling good I decided to write this review to show that the place still is amazing (saying this cause of all the negative reviews). Cafeteria food is something that I grew up with as a small child and teenager in Oklahoma City and Chicago. My all time favorite favorite was the Boulevard in OKC. Unfortunately it was closed years ago due to poor management. It is unfortunate that so many have been shuttered and I hope that the new investors in this chain can rescue it from poor management. As the new CEO said, the problem with Luby's was never the food. The fried fish, mashed potatoes, and green beans are something I always enjoy as a favorite past time memory. I stopped here because it was close to the hotel and I was pleasantly surprised. I had the meatloaf (extra sauce), boiled okra, fried eggplant and mac & cheese with a salad. It was all hot and fresh. I had to visit this place for nostalgic sakes and I mean it. I haven't eaten here in ages, but wanted to try it out again. I did notice it seems like an upgrade from the outside and inside from my visit. The format is still the same as in cafeteria format where you take a tray and order food. I felt like I was in school again moving that tray down the line. The memories of school and not a care in the world as oppose to adulting. They seem to have stepped up their game well as far as presentation goes, the food looked yummy at least. As you know Luby's, they have salads to chicken and even steaks (runs about 13 bucks). Now the fried chicken leg was awful big so I passed on that. They had the usual side items from corn, green beans and mash potatoes. They have the desserts from key lime cake to more cake. I went with my liver and onions with green beans and cajun sausage rice. I got this chicken with skewers of shrimp as another item and it was so so to me. I kinda wished I passed though. I will give props the sweet tea was pretty darn sweet with no pun intended. It was great! I always go with that at Luby's and I don't stray. Once you get the food. the person checks you out as you pay vs the old days you took your receipt up the cashier at exit door. I missed their antique cash register where when they gave you change, it came out the side the sound of clanking money into this bowl. Ah, those were the good old days! The dining area is an upgrade and you still have hosts helping out with refills or condiments (no soy sauce though) which I had to get up a few times to ask for something but once they noticed you, they helped out timely. So the customer service was average. Pricing wise like prior reviews likely stated, it can add up quick and isn't the cheapest place to eat and you think it would be opposite with cafeteria style setup. I don't think Luby's has ever been that way ever even back in the days. While it is to applaud their noticeable redesign, it is still Luby's regardless and I like to get my liver and onions once in awhile by myself. read more

This location is a good Luby's! I have not had the same food experience at all Luby's. They should all taste the same, but they don't. Some of the locations are unpleasant. But the Midway Road restaurant is a winner in my book. Luby's sends out coupons in mail flyers, and I always use my coupons at this location. The staff is always nice and the food is hot and fresh, and of course, reasonably priced (even without a coupon). This time I had the beer battered cod and fries, which came with tarter sauce, coleslaw and a hush puppy and another selection of my choice of bread - I went for the cheddar biscuit, just like Beyonce would. My food was good. One piece of fish had too much batter on it, but I was able to overlook that because my coleslaw and tarter sauce were so fresh and homemade tasting. Oh and that hush puppie was so light and fluffy, I should have skipped that cheddar biscuit and asked for a "barrel of hush puppies." My hubby's chicken fried steak with gravy, cabbage, fried okra, and cornbread was as good as any you'd find in a good "mom & pop" Southern diner. Our food was well seasoned and not salty. This location also has a breakfast buffet on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 8am to 11am. I am definitely going to have to check that out at 8am. An old favorite gone horribly wrong. Had heard mixed reviews on the Dallas subreddit, but when a family member suggested it I figured we could give it a try. The only thing edible on my entire tray was the cornbread. How do you mess up Jell-O? How do you mess up plain water? Before you think it's just that it was tap water, it could have been, but I've loved Dallas tap water all my life. Liver and onions isn't to everyone's taste, but at Luby's it was mine for years. I would accept if I thought I simply had lost the taste for it, but this was the stringiest I've ever had, every single bite near impossible to tear away from the rest and the harshest flavor. They used to do something to it back in the day that tenderized it perhaps gave it a little bit of seasoning, I don't know what, but it's gone now. I have not eaten at this location in years. The food was awful. The food has changed. I ordered the roast beef with cabbage and fried okra. They do not follow great food practices when serving. The line was slow and long. The roast beef was seasonless, the fried okra was hard, and the cabbage was undercooked. This was awful. The dinner roll was hard as a rock. I love a good cafeteria. I ate in cafeterias growing up, and enjoyed the fact I could see the food before I selected it, and that it was hot (or cold) and ready to eat. No waiting behind dozens of other patrons while the kitchen tries to make it ready after I sit down. Also, the selection is usually HUGE, and there are no "substitution" or "shared plate" charges, and at cafeteria prices, I'm fine with over-ordering and taking home what I don't eat. Now on to this Luby's location. I have never found it crowded at lunch. Straight up noon and I am through the line in like ten minutes and enjoying a meal. The variety is great and the quality is high. the only thing I have found I am not too fond of is the baked almondine fish. It probably needs some mayo between the almonds and bread crumbs and the fish to keep it moist. OTOH, I love that they have brought back eggplant casserole. A childhood favorite. And the salads- carrot, pea, fruit, beets... I often get salads for my sides and skip the hot sides. Service is always friendly, the place is CLEAN including the restrooms, and the dining room is huge, so never a wait for a table. Adding big screen TV's is a nice touch for when I am dining alone, or just to catch the score of the ballgame. I have a suggestion for bringing in more and younger folks- add beer and wine. Sometimes I just need a cold one with dinner, and it cuts out Luby's. read more

It completely filled my plate, too much for lunch. Mashed potatoes and gravy with fried okra. It was good and I'll be back. There were several dishes that looked really appealing. Don't waste your time at this Luby's location. The portions are incredibly small; yet they have the Audacity to increase their meal prices exponentially. It's a complete RIP-Off! Their is no value for your buck here. Some of the servers are horrible and you will not receive the customer service you deserve. If you have a staff complaint, Brad the manager is worthless and does not do anything to try and resolve your complaint. He will only make excuses and is very dismissive of your concern/issue with food, customer service treatment etc. read more
