I tried the rib and rib tips and catfish and the baked beans and I was pleasantly surprised. I definitely will be back.

Lazy susan sampler (10/10): everything on this plate was great. gochujang hot honey cauliflower, buttermilk biscuits, fried green tomatoes, pimento cheese dip, spiced chips! Highly recommend this Side of jalapeno cornbread and honey butter (9/10): also loved this. Wasn't too try and had the perfect amount of jalapeno Idas fried chicken + pimento Mac n cheese (8/10): I was so full so didn't fully finish this but the fried chicken was SO crispy & juicy. Mac n cheese wasn't the best I've had, but I'd still get it again! Double cheeseburger (10/10): wow....juicy, flavorful, not too messy to eat. Tallow fries weren't anything to write home about but paired with the burger very well! Hummingbird cake (10/10): came out nice and fresh, topped with cream cheese frosting that wasn't too sweet or thick! Kinda like a carrot cake with added nuts. Loved this!! I'd definitely come back!

My husband and I shared an entrée, and it was more than enough. The food was delicious, and the drinks were just as impressive. The overall atmosphere made the evening even more enjoyable. I'll definitely be back! This is the kind of place I'll happily bring friends and family from out of town when I want to treat them to a memorable dining experience.

We also ordered a slice of Red Velvet Pound Cake. Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavorful. The wings were crispy and very flavorful. The Oxtail Soul Bowl was packed and loaded on top of a bed of corn bread and it came with a huge piece of corn bread on the side. The red velvet pound cake was something different, but good too. Just very sweet especially drinking their half gallon "Mystery" juice which was good, but also pretty diabetes sweet. I tried my best to get the mystery ingredients from one of the cashiers, but she held strong lol. Overall, it is a pretty expensive type of food, but the portions is pretty huge and fulfilling as well so it balances out. The staff were super friendly and the food didn't take too long to come out. They were under renovation so they only did takeout orders which was a bummer. Parking lot is a bit small, but you'll be fine.

Hubs had the catfish bites and Mac and cheese. Both were seasoned well and delicious. I had the fried ribs with baked beans and potato salad. The ribs were fried in a batter seasoned to perfection, and I really enjoyed those. I loved the potato salad and the baked beans were ok. My husband liked them but I thought they tasted heavily of bbq sauce. We all tried a side of spaghetti and it was good as well. Tasted like the spaghetti we used to make in college lol We got the Mystery Koolaid and Mango Peach Lemonade. Both excellent and surprisingly not too sweet. The service was 10/10. There was a very friendly young lady taking orders. This location is takeout only, so no ambiance to speak of. They run a very efficient operation, and I plan to return for sure.

There is ample space between tables so you don't feel cramped. There are TVs on the walls but it does not feel like a typical sports bar. The vibe is upscale and the restaurant was very clean. We started with the homemade biscuits and they were excellent. The proceeds go to charity so placing this order was no-brainer. The biscuits were light and airy, not dense at all. The jam and butter were the perfect accompaniment. Those biscuits are winners! Everyone should order and help the charity. I had the spicy chicken and waffles and it was excellent. The chicken was indeed spicy but the honey helped cool me off. The chicken was tender, the waffle was light but could have been hotter. If you order this dish, you will need a glass or two of cold ice water! The wife had shakshura and loved it. She got some toast on the side for dipping. The grits on the bottom were perfectly cooked. Her only complaint was the egg was supposed to be runny and it was firm. The kid had sweet potato pancakes but ended up filling up on the biscuits. Overall, food was 5 star and really enjoyable. The prices are very reasonable. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that our server, who was pleasant enough, was not very efficient. I am not sure what the problem was but her head was in the clouds. We would ask for something, she would say ok, and then she would disappear and forget to bring what we asked for. This happened more than once, more than twice, and maybe three times. It became a running joke at our table, what would the waitress forget this time? Other than spotty service, we liked this restaurant very much and we definitely would return if we are the Star District again.
