I DISAGREE! But read on to learn why - Someone I read recently gave this location a less than stellar review - lamenting that folks who give this a good review were reviewing on nostalgia more than reality. The food was excellent during my very recent trip. The "sad salads" referred to by someone else - during my visit were quite fresh and inviting. I ate one of my all time faves - carrot raisin which was both fresh and delish! I purchased Almondine fish as an entree and got mac n cheese and fried okra for sides and shared a piece of Chess Pie with my wife for dessert. I also had a piece of Mexican cornbread. My wife ate beef liver (hold the onions) and green beans and Mac n cheese with a roll. My son got a kids plate of chicken fingers and sweet potato casserole with Mac n cheese. My daughter got a veggie plate with green beans, Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes and brown gravy - with a roll for both kids and a jello for both. Before tip - we enjoyed all this for $33! What a steal for fantastic food - and on Saturday afternoon too - it was about 330pm when we ate - so possibly it was a discounted time for the meal, I'm not sure - I know some restaurants offer lesser prices in the afternoon (after lunch and before dinner). Everything was not only as good as I recalled from my last visit (and let's face it - I've been eating at Luby's for my older than 55 year old life and the food was great at this visit too! I'm an older dude raising two littles who are equally as impressed with the food here as I am (actually requesting to eat here at ages 10 and under). So there's that! We are thankful there is still a Luby's here as they keep disappearing - but we enjoyed this one just fine today and I'd bet you will too! A bit grim, cafeteria style food. There are multiple food stations including a grill and a dessert bar. You make your selection and they'll serve you a plate. The salads looked a bit tired. I imagine if you're looking for an affordable option with lots of meat you'll like this set up. Our waitress handled clearing plates away without making us feel rushed. Overall, a fairly "mid" experience. I'm updating this review to say... other reviewers have given high reviews, but it's obvious that nostalgia is doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to a positive assessment of the place. Love Lubys! Always good, always consistent! Same great favorites as well as some new items. If you want chicken, beef or fish, they have it. I happen to love liver and onions and they always have it! I also love getting a veggie plate. They always have plenty to choose from. Best mashed potatoes and cream gravy ever. Delicious cabbage. All kinds of salads and desserts. I can always count on Luby's for a good home style meal! This time I followed the lead of the person in front of me and tried the chicken fried pork chops. I started eating those delicious homemade mashed potatoes and brown gravy before I realized I didn't take a picture. The pork chops were nicely sized, tender and not overly seasoned and fried just right!! I got the garlic toast and a side order of sweet potato casserole, which is one of my favorites. The line was pretty long as it's lunch time on a Friday. The servers were friendly and the managers were ensuring the line flowed smoothly. I would have recommended this restaurant two decades ago, and I stand by that recommendation today. Normally, service isn't necessarily discussed in the context of cafeteria food restaurants. But we'll make an exception in this case. Our table service was excellent! The server made sure our drinks were refilled multiple times, and she brought steak sauce without me asking. That's exceptional for a cafeteria. Luby's Cafeteria food isn't fancy. It's simple, southern comfort fare made the way Mama made it all those years ago on Sundays after church. There's literally something for everyone: grilled, fried, or baked meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread and a wide assortment of drink options. My wife loves their sweet tea, so be sure to ask for a drink to go. You choose what you want, and it's delicious! And you can even put A1 Steak Sauce on your chop steak, and no one will judge you. The ambiance is casual and usually noisy, but on our visit, it was nice and quiet. This location has some upscale furniture features, like live-edge tables and very comfortable chairs. The day I got my food it had to be an off day my cabbage wasn't done and I know I understand that you can steam it but this was raw. That day everything that I wanted to eat was not right and that's the first time that ever happened to me and I've eaten at this luby's dislocation a lot. They are getting a lot of business because the food is good but you can't start half doing stuff because you didn't got really really busy the cost of good food is what bring people back. Because I got that bad plate I have not been back I want to come back but I don't want to come back and pay for a plate that's not good. I know you can't cook the food and have it completely done when you put it out there on the line but it needs to be a little bit closer that way if they run completely out y'all need to do more cooking in the bag then because I can understand that you let it stay on the steam line it do get a little tender after certain length of time but if you run out it's not good to bring that raw cabbage I'm just saying. I'll be honest, I was on my way to another establishment when out of the corner of my eye I saw the Lubys sign. I just made it into Dallas from Florida and I didn't want an over complicated menu. Just needed some good food. I'm so glad I stopped here. The service was awesome. The staff was absolutely amazing. I asked for some butter for my bread after he placed it in the bag. He took them out and basted the cornbread with hot butter. While getting my condiments. I overfilled one of my containers and I will tell you by the time I got to the end of that line another gentleman who I had no idea was watching met me with napkins and more butter. It would be very wise to look at your receipt closely before walking away after paying. I told the cashier twice that both meals were for Seniors, and she only discounted one of the meals. I also noticed an extra dollar for a charity donation that I did not authorize. I discovered these errors a few minutes after we completed our meals. I told the cashier to discount the other meal. and that I did not authorized the charity donation and I wanted it removed. She said that I authorized it; "I told you about the donation and you said it was "Fine"". This conversation did not take place. I consider it a blatant lie. They took nearly 10 minutes to correct this and it was preventing people from paying for their meal. This is very disappointing. We should be diligent in viewing our receipts. Also, it would be wise to familiarize yourself with the Federal Truth in Menu Law. If they charge you for items not on the menu, or in writing anywhere, or verbalized before you complete your order, it is a violation of the law for them to add it after that. My wife and I decided to eat something comfortable for dinner and we decided to order Luby's to go. The result was the food was a big disappointment. My wife had LuAnn Chopped Steak with Natural Gravy on the side and Double Mac & Cheese and I had LuAnn Chicken Fried Steak with White Gravy on the side, Mashed Potatoes and Mac & Cheese. Her Chopped Steak was super dry even with the Natural Gravy. My Chicken Fried Steak was dry as well and very tough even with the White Gravy. Mac & Cheese was overcooked had to put Salt & Pepper on mine. Mashed Potatoes were very bland even with the White Gravy. We also order some White Rolls. They are not as soft as they use to be plus they look a bit darker than they normally look. I think they have gone downhill. Food is not as good as they use to be. We're very disappointed. Luby's is not where you would take your first date but it for sure is a good place to dine at if you are looking for that southern hospitality. I was definitely hesitant coming here as the outside looks sus af BUT it was lowkey good. There were soooo many options. Fried, grilled, roasted, you name it. I originally was not going to snap a pic as it did not look that aesthetically pleasing. However, after several bites of that juicy chicken, I decided that Luby's deserves some attention and love. Had lunch today at the Lucy's cafeteria on Midway Rd. In Dallas Texas. I had codfish and it was fantastic as was the broccoli, rice and cheese, and green beans. Went to the Midway location yesterday. My meal was beyond dreadful. To begin with everything was cold. The chicken fried steak and fried zucchini were over-cooked, tough and tasteless; and the dinner roll tasted off--like it was old and spoiled. We have been going to Luby's my entire life...held our family holidays there each year. My mother-in-law goes multiple times a week. She was recently there on a Sunday and, while in line, her heart went into afib (a recurring heart condition that takes all energy away), so she went over to the to-go line and asked an employee that's helped her before if she could please tell him her order while she sat down. An apparently new district manager in a ball cap came over and yelled at my mother-in-law, claiming she did this all the time and that they wouldn't serve her again and walked away before she could explain. People standing nearby got extremely angry at how she was treated and humiliated.
