LT9 apparently stands for L-Theanine, an Amino Acid prominent in tea. You could run a google search on it if that interests you. What's more interesting to me about this spot is that it is apparent that they really care about marketing that many of their teas are specifically sourced from Taiwan, Sri Lanka, and Japan, countries that are known for high quality tea. Sure enough, when you drink their tea, you get pretty strong tea flavor. I think their teas are good, but their "signature" mixes are very lightly flavored. I had a thailand milk tea, with which I got strong black tea and milk notes with very little sweetness. I ordered their seasonal "sunset strawberry" drink, which tasted of cream and strawberry yogurt vibes. (Maybe this came from their "cheese foam"?) Milk and tea quality seem good here, but I can't really find the flavor balance that I'm looking for when I order a drink. If I come back, then I should consider going with plain, hot, ceylon black tea or hot matcha so that I could just enjoy the quality of the tea; however, I would probably opt to do a tea tasting menu elsewhere if I wanted to go in this direction. Overall, this place has a great location in old town Pasadena and the AC is nice on a hot day, but the flavors are okay. read more

Great Hainan chicken dish with good protein proportion. We tried the combo to try the soup, cucumber salad, and drink. I liked the 1834 earl grey pure tea, smooth flavor. The chili oil in the cucumbers was not too spicy and actually goes well with the chicken. You self order at the front with a tablet and grab your meal at the side. There is a parking lot for $10 (or $15, I forgot) all day right next door which is not bad if you plan to use this as a study/work spot. The lunch special is $10 which is pretty good given the amount of food that they give you but I thought the hainan chicken was only okay. The rice or chicken was not as flavorful as other places that I have had and the spicy sauce does not come with (you have to buy separately). I do want to try the other noodle soups they have, those looked really good. I came early so it was pretty empty but I can see it getting more busy as the day goes on. But they have fast wifi, strong AC and the parking is convenient so if you use this as a study/work place instead of 100% on food, I think it would be do-able. I really enjoyed the Sunset Strawberry, it had a nice creamy blend of sweet strawberries and an aromatic tea. If you're hungry, make sure you take advantage of their lunch specials! For $9.99 you can enjoy the Hainan chicken plate topped with tender chicken on a bed of tasty rice. We also tried the sesame oil noodle soup which I really enjoyed. The broth was nice and flavorful, and it was very comforting. For dessert, they offer tiramisu made in house! Only 20 pieces available a day, so make sure you try one if you get a chance. I liked that the chicken was all dark meat, disliked the rice (too much water and it's like eating sticky rice) and would've liked if they had the red chili kind of sauce. Iykyk. While visiting Old Town Pasadena, I dropped by LT9 with my sister for some tea and lunch. Regarding the restaurant's seating space, it is pretty limited, with about 5 tables, a bar area, and a couch that can seat 4 humans intimately. All ordering is done through electronic kiosks and the service does take some time, because I think that they make each customer's drink to order (since our food order actually came out first, and then our teas came out last). I ordered the Sunset Strawberry drink because the worker recommended it, and it had a very unique flavor. The black milk tea was very fragrant which made the organic strawberry flavor much more mild in comparison. The cheese foam added to the creaminess of the drink and the mochi topping was very soft and gave the slightest chew and extra texture to the Strawberry Sunset drinking experience. I actually thought the mochi was almond jello because of how soft and jelly-like the texture was. Surprisingly, the star of the LT9 menu for me was actually not their fancy schmancy drinks brewed with imported tea leaves from Taiwan, but their delicious Hainam Chicken Rice. The rice dish had a good serving size of chicken and the rice alone was already perfectly seasoned and delicious. It was also soup weather at the time of our visit, and although I'm not a soupy person, we ordered their Sesame Oil Chicken Noodle Soup and I was pleasantly surprised. The soup was herbal and hearty, very reminiscent of a traditional medicinal Chinese chicken soup bone broth my mother would make. read more

However, I did try the seasonal Cali Sunshine Juice which was pure watermelon juice and delicious if you want a sweet drink. For my meal, I got the Hainan chicken which was good considering it's from a boba shop but not the best I've had. It was a generous portion though and actually lasted me two meals. As for dessert, I kept getting a waft of the Taiwanese-style egg waffle so that was calling my name. It was served fresh from the machine and super fluffy with a custardy flavor. It came with condensed milk but I enjoyed it on its own. My family also loved the creme brulee croffle and I know that because it was gone within minutes. Overall, LT9 specializes in tea so I would gravitate towards those drinks next time instead. Do I recommend this business? - MAYBE 1st timer here! (raise hand) drove 8 miles to taste their Hainan chicken. We tried the combo Hainan, includes- HAINAN chicken bowl with rice, soup, cucumber salad, tea drink (if it's not combo then no drink and salad). The Combo price is not bad for the price, and Chicken tastes good the proportion is enough to get full, it's actually a lot. We also wanted chicken feet but they do not have it by that time so we changed to chicken wings - eh, nothing special, I also did not taste anything special about the cucumber salad. The service - 3 tables were already occupied when we came (about 1pm-ish) and then we came, so GLAD we came before the others because after that ... it took them too long.. we waited a long time and felt bad because there are still otherssss waiting and cannot imagine how many more minutes they're going to wait the fact that our order came so slow and we were there first. I felt bad for the staff who I feel overworked but is still very nice and charming. Waiting long I think is a good sign that they don't just microwave our food but the number of staff I think could be better. The place is clean, tables to share. There is a paid parking beside them - $5 first 30 mins, $10 max, or you can use the meter if there is one. Restroom is available for customers. The Hainan chicken had plentiful of meat considering its pricing and the rice was flavorful and delicious. The sauce that you can dip the chicken into added even more flavor. I would happily come back here again for their chicken and maybe even a drink next time. You can add a salad, soup, and a basic tea for $4-$6, I don't recall the actual pricing. I've been here a few times for both drinks and food, and while the drinks are alright, the food is a no for me. I tried the Hainan chicken and the "teriyaki" chicken, and honestly, neither hit the mark. The Hainan chicken was cooked okay, but the rice was pretty bad--dry, hard and flavorless, and they gave a ton of it. The teriyaki chicken? Barely any chicken, mostly rice. The shop itself and the staff are very nice. A small thing to note is that the round tables by the windows have wheels on the bottom that sometimes cause the table to shift unnecessarily. I probably wouldn't come back for the food. The Taiwanese noodle soup was an amalgamation of things including a single karaage and a single shrimp tempura both of which were submerged in the broth and became soggy and almost unrecognizable.
