We ordered a washing machine from them. Paid for it! Bought it online had it set up to be delivered! When it arrived the front half was smashed. The delivery guys said they would take it make to the store and said we can get it replaced for one that is not broken. I was ok with that. When I called they asked me multiple times if they could CALL ME BACK. I said nope I need this fixed. On hold for over an hour off and on. The guy finally said all he can call me back. Can't do a refund. Can't do an exchange. CAN'T FIX THEY'RE MISTAKE! All they can do right now is call me back.

This is what I emailed to Seth at Home Depot. His response was to have a 70 year old man move it.

Man, I'm not even gonna bother going to Lowes or Home Depot anymore if I can help it.... actually…read moreI'm not going to Home Depot period, because it sucks. Hardware Express has what I need 95% of the time and the sales staff knows every square inch of the store. It takes little more than 5 minutes to walk in, get the parts I need, pay, and walk out. When I need advice on solving my latest homeowner's-pain-in-the-ass problem, the sales staff is always approachable and helpful and know what they are talking about. For the convenience of saving me at least 45 minutes in driving round trip + an extra 10-25 minutes just looking for the damn part I need or dealing with typically clueless sales associates, I am happy to pay slightly more than Lowes (Or Amazon for that matter) but this is what I am finding: it usually does not cost more. Also, buy your propane here, folks. It's half the cost of those scammy tank exchanges, and it's quick and easy.

I've been shopping at ACE for over 30 years, but this takes the cake (my local ACE would NEVER). I…read morewent to the Eureka Way location specifically to purchase a wading pool for a self-draining duck pond I'm building, the pool was out of stock at my usual ACE, and while checking out I mentioned my October birthday coupon. The employee, Ben, responded with "Oh, $hit," then seemed visibly annoyed while applying it. Then it got weird...He asked if anyone had helped me. I explained "no", I had gone straight to the garden section, grabbed the pool, and gone to the register. He scoffed, "Well... I'm helping you, aren't I?" I said, "Okay," assuming he simply wanted to fulfill some customer service metric the store was collecting. Apparently that wasn't enough--he proceeded to explain THREE separate times that HE was helping me, asking, "Like, do you actually understand what I'm saying?" (in a super patronizing and condescending tone). At that point I said, "Yes, I fully understand what you're explaining, Ben. Thank you for mansplaining that for me." The whole interaction was bizarre, unnecessary, and extremely uncomfortable. The profanity over my birthday coupon was inappropriate in itself, but being repeatedly talked down to as though I couldn't comprehend a simple statement was what really crossed the line. I left wondering how such a simple checkout could possibly have become that weird. Have the misogynistic day you deserve, BenjaminS. I'll never be back.

Hardware Express - So confusing these doors lock behind you. Once your in you have to go to the far side after the checkout to exit. Seems highly unsafe.

That being said, the Palo Cedro True Value is my number one hardware store that I always go to first, even though I don't even live in Palo Cedro. Staff are friendly, selection is great, and it's a locally owned business that I will always give my business to before the big box nightmares. I visit this location often and look forward to every trip.

It occurs to me earlier this week that my garage is looking darker than the inside of a basalt lava tube cave. The garage is lighted by four 48-inch duel-tube fluorescent fixtures, and they're past due for new tubes. So I buy eight tubes at True Value and install them. I get all the tubes replaced, and of the fixtures doesn't work at all. I confirm that it's got juice, so I need to replace that fixture. In another fixture, one tube lights up when I throw the switch, but the other flickers for a second and goes dark. I switch the new tubes to make sure it's not one bad side of the fixture. Nope. One good tube and one dud tube. Here's where True Value fucked up. I walk in this morning with the bad tube, intending to exchange it and to buy a new 48-inch fixture. I tell the guy at the front counter that I got a bad tube and need to exchange it. He looks at it from 10 feet away and says: "That's a really old lamp that's just used up." I'm like, "I bought it yesterday and used it for about one second." (Seriously, this penis with limbs is accusing me of trying to return an old burnt-out tube.) He asks, "You bought it as a single?" (They don't sell singles, so I guess he's looking for a "gotcha!" victory, or some bullshit.) "No," I say. "The other tube is fine and is still in the fixture, lighting my garage." "Well, I can't exchange one tube. You need to bring the other back, too." Why? So you can restock them? They come in pairs, shrink-wrapped in cardboard and plastic at the factory. Fuck you, asshole. I drove straight to Home Depot and bought the bulb and the new fixture, and probably saved about $25. I'm not promising that I'll never shop at PC True Value again, but if I do, it won't be because of my "shop local" ethos. Asshole True Value dude lit that up and pissed it out.
