I will say the most off-putting thing and reason for this review is the large collection of MAGA merch right as you enter the store, and some of the staff wearing MAGA gear. I'm there to buy screws, not to attend a political rally. It makes the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable. If you're looking for something specific, they probably have it. Good selection of items, although may be on the pricier end compared to other home improvement stores. The staff are usually pretty helpful and kind, and try to offer multiple options of whatever you're looking for. read more

Poor rental experience. See others posted here. Rented a jackhammer twice two days apart and had an equipment failure both times. After the second failure, I thought some adjustment would be appropriate. Rental manager at lunch. Come back Monday. Went to desk Monday, someone went to inform rental manger. Waited at counter for 10-12 minutes. Explained the problem, but he either did not understand or did not accept what I told him. He looked in file cabinet for paperwork for at least five minutes while I waited. At minimum, these three delays were inconsiderate. At worst they were deliberate. Finally, I asked him if he thought I was lying. His eyes clearly told me he thought I was lying. I left. This store lost a loyal twenty year customer. I don't really blame the employee. Clearly, this is a larger problem with management. Hard nosed attitude, the customer is always wrong, that kind of thing. I was amazed and dumbfounded by the experience. Are customers really so plentiful that you can treat them like that? read more

I needed a specific door handle with keypad entry as one of mine had recently failed due to wear and time. I went to Home Depot and found the door handle that I needed. It was locked up, so I asked someone for help and they said they would call for assistance. I waited for about 10 minutes before an associate finally arrived. Once she had retrieved the door handle, I asked where to go to have it keyed according to my key that fits the rest of the door handles in the home that were all keyed the same once upon a time (at Home Depot.) I was told that there was no one at Home Depot who could help me that day. So I went to Lowe's. I finally found the door handle (which was again locked up) and found an associate after some searching. Before he unlocked it, I made sure to ask where I could get it keyed at. According to him, Lowe's "Ain't got no one who can do that today..." I left and headed home, frustrated. I didn't want to go anywhere else, but last minute decided to try Ace Hardware on Eureka Way as it is close to home. I found the doorhandle within a minute (not locked up) and an associate was immediately there asking if I needed any help - I didn't even have time to look for someone to help. He took the door handle straight back to the counter and advised the young man working there that I needed it to be keyed. After about 10 minutes, it was DONE. During my short wait, I was asked twice by other associates if I needed any help. My final purchase was the same price as it would have been at Lowe's and $5 more than at Home Depot and, in great contrast to the former stores, the experience at Ace was exactly what I would expect great customer service to be. read more

Incredible customer service. I needed a BBQ and they had just what I wanted all put together and ready to go. Of course it was a display model but I asked anyway! Would it be possible for me to purchase this grill that is on display? She answered immediately and said "of course and if you want something else that's not put together we'll put it together for you ". I go back often and it's always a great experience! read more

More expensive but convenient for me. Over the years have made keys, rented equipment, bought hardware and propane. One time while purchasing propane they had 2 receipts at the inside checker. When I got to the register someone had paid using my lesser amount. I got stuck with the higher dollar purchase. Not great but oh well. A few days ago I called about renting a power pole saw to touch up my 3.7 acres. They said I could get and electric for 4 hours ...Cost of $50. When I picked it up I was told that a battery was $10 and a charger $3. Pretty poor but I paid for it so I could get to work and get it back before they closed. Got a coke and gas on way home. Used it a bit and decided I was not going to be able to make this work. Chain was dull and was not cutting but smoking the wood where I was cutting. Loaded it up to take it back and stopped to visit a neighbor who was outside about 30 minutes. Arrived a Ace Hardware Express rental desk and told them the problem. Thought he would zero the charge. Got home and saw he charged me $67.41. Went back today and manager said (in fine print) on your contract you have 30 minutes to notify them of a problem. She was as right as could be...and they lost a customer for ever. This Ace is owned by Marty Kalsbeek. But Martins Ace on HW 273 is not. I have been treated well at Martins previously so I am now their customer. read more

Another FAIL in my experience with this ACE store. In calling to rent tables and chairs for Thanksgiving, I was told that since THEY are closed I will need to pay for 2 days rental instead of one. This didn't used to be the case. It's not fair to punish the customer because the store isn't open. I instead took my business to Redding Tents and Events which had better pricing, we're very helpful, and only charged for a single day rental since they are closed on Thanksgiving. read more

Used the online option and submitted a curbside pickup order from this location. I went out of my way downtown to get a specific brand of root beer that ace carries. When arriving, I provided the associate with my confirmation number. She stated the number did not match and it was a bit of an ordeal. I had to physically hand her my phone for confirmation that I had ordered and even then the numbers did not match. After receiving my order I took a look at what was given to me and it was a completely different brand then the one I had ordered. I ended up just going inside to see if there was some sort of mistake and was told " oh we are out of that so we gave you this instead". They could have at least attempted to let me know this before hand. It may sound ridiculous to some because I mean root beer is root beer, but I made a special trip to downtown Redding to get this and I could have literally got what they where trying to give me anywhere else in town. I ended up getting a refund and left. Was a complete waste of time. Their online ordering needs some serious work. read more

I go this hardware store multiple times per week, and have uniformly positive experiences. Yes, occasionally they are really busy or get bogged down trying to help a customer solve a problem, but I can't understand why the place gets negative reviews. So a customer can't get customer service one day (always for a legitimate reason in my experience), gets mad, and writes an acrimonious review that sits in Yelp for years. Don't be dissuaded from shopping here people! This is a good store. We need them around here. And no, I don't know anyone who works there and I have no financial interest in the place. I worked at this store for the last five months and found the store to be very well stocked with a wide array of hardware and household items. They try to have plenty of staff on hand to assist with customer service unlike the big box stores. While for the most part I enjoyed working here I must question the managers decision to recently hire a convicted and registered sex offender especially as the store is directly across from U Prep and Shasta High School. The store is a popular spot for students to frequent for soft drinks and snacks. If I had a daughter or granddaughter in the area I would appreciate knowing that there was a possible threat in the business. read more

I am very appreciative of Austin, the store manager, and, Caitlyn, one of the clerks, who handled it very professionally and were very helpful when I had to return a cordless drill with a battery that did not work. They replaced the drill with the next model up, without charging me extra, even though the replacement cost more, in order to compensate me for the time and trouble returning to the store had taken me. After getting sent to the electronic tools department to find a roto saw, I asked for help from a sales associate. The first time I asked if they carried roto saws she completely ignored me. When I repeated my question she literally rolled her eyes and without addressing me spoke into her microphone and asking for roto saw. She did it again after a few minutes without a response. This is my neighborhood store. Hardware is a beautiful oasis of critical things you do need and cool little gadgets you don't need but must have. This store's Trump supporting merchandise takes up more room than the selection of stains and sealants. Honestly: It hits me kind of sideways, and makes me feel uncomfortable & unwelcome. A few hats, sure, but a whole Trump boutique? Dang, I'm just trying to buy some sprinklers and a bird feeder. Some staff are AMAZING-will explain your whole project for you. Others barely know where the paint is. Everyone is nice. I've noticed for basic stuff --nuts and bolts, literally--it's hit or miss. It's also kind of pricey. I've shopped at Ace on Eureka Way for years because of convenience, but have recently found that their rental solutions don't operate on good faith which has convinced me to take my business to a business that does. Rented a carpet cleaner recently. Used it for an hour then it broke down. They said they couldn't fix it and didn't have a replacement. Fine. Things break. I get it. No big deal. I can just rent somewhere else. But then they refused to give me my money back. Offered to give me a credit for a carpet cleaning rental when the new models arrive at some unknown point in time. The point is, they refused to refund my $25 rental fee. What compounds this issue is that they use excuses like "the machine was on it's last legs and we knew it would give out soon" and "it hasn't been working well for a while now". So basically they rented me a dud knowing it wouldn't perform well at best and that it'd probably break down at worst.... and knowing they weren't going to refund my money in either case. Nice. I call that "bad faith". The manager won't even return my calls. What business is willing to lose a customer over $25? So I rented from Ace on Westside Road. Very very nice people. Caring. I'll drive the extra mile to get good service. To be fair I've had some good service from Ace on Eureka Way over the years. But those employees never last. I rarely see the same employee in there twice. That says something too.... The employees at Ace on Westside are always the same. read more

Man, I'm not even gonna bother going to Lowes or Home Depot anymore if I can help it.... actually I'm not going to Home Depot period, because it sucks. Hardware Express has what I need 95% of the time and the sales staff knows every square inch of the store. It takes little more than 5 minutes to walk in, get the parts I need, pay, and walk out. When I need advice on solving my latest homeowner's-pain-in-the-ass problem, the sales staff is always approachable and helpful and know what they are talking about. For the convenience of saving me at least 45 minutes in driving round trip + an extra 10-25 minutes just looking for the damn part I need or dealing with typically clueless sales associates, I am happy to pay slightly more than Lowes (Or Amazon for that matter) but this is what I am finding: it usually does not cost more. Also, buy your propane here, folks. It's half the cost of those scammy tank exchanges, and it's quick and easy. read more

I have always had the best experience with this location. I bought a stihl chainsaw from this location ( my 4th stihl product) and had an issue with it. The owner of this hardware store is a local customer of mine at my service department. I told her my issue and she instructed me to bring it in and I would be taken care of. I brought it in and met Johnny. I was more than impressed with his attitude and level of customer service. He told me he would look at it the same day and if possible get it back to me but if it was something more involved it would take maybe a couple days. An hour later Johnny had my chainsaw part figured out repaired and then gave me a call telling me it was ready for pick up. I own a farm and these chainsaws are very important to our daily activities. I would recommend anybody come to this hardware store for their purchases and service of small engines. Not to mention they are certified stihl dealership who knows how to work on them and get them back very quickly. Thank you again for the excellent customer service I will be back for future purchases in service. NEGATIVE STARS if it was possible. Every time I leave Ace on Eureka Way, I think "LAST time. I'll never go back." This is for MANY reasons, but tonight was the final straw. I witnessed two men (one masked and one unmasked, including his family) arguing in the main aisle. It got heated and I noticed a few employees gathering around. I heard the masked man tell the unmasked man that his mother just passed away from COVID and that they should wear a mask. Typical arguments you see in Redding stores these days (unfortunately). Instead of trying to defuse the situation, the EMPLOYEES kept shouting to the masked man who just lost his mother that "It [wearing a mask] isn't the law." To see the lack of compassion by the unmasked customer was heartbreaking, BUT to see the way the employees handled it was beyond DISGUSTING. If you're not spending your time in this store avoiding unmasked customers, you're tripping over State of Jefferson and Trump paraphernalia. Usually it's both. read more

I am back "Pitches"! The freedom of speech is great. I must say, good try. When I walked in to the store none of your employees greeted me. I stood by the register for at least 3 minutes before walking around to find my item myself. While on one of the isles a store employee had the nerve to watch and follow me around the store as if I was stealing or something. This made me feel sad and upset. I wanted attention for help and could not get it. Then I get it in a negative way. Never once asked if I needed help. DAMN! read more

With the start of the holiday season, I needed to clean the carpets in my house. This Ace hardware had carpet cleaners for a good rate. However, the young man, Sam behind the counter was extremely short with his answers when asked questions. He seemed rather bothered by being behind the counter. Well, I got the machine home and it did NOT work. I called the store and unfortunately I got Sam on the phone. I explained that it was not working. His answer floored me, "what do you want us to do about it". I got the machine back to the store and again his really was unacceptable "I don't check the machines." He then collected his stuff and walked out the front door. The only reason the machine was not tossed acrossed the counter was due to Jonathan (?) and Austin helping with the problem. They fixed it and it worked great after I got it home. This is a neighborhood store right down the street from me and i might shop there again, however, I will never deal with Sam again. His poor attitude is a good way to scare off customers. If you need help, don't go through Sam. read more

Nice little Ace store with all the little stuff plus some of the big things like BBQ's and lawn mowers. Prices are comparable to big box stores and some of the items on sale are even cheaper. Got asked about five times in one minute if I needed help and there was no waiting in line. Coolest thing is they sell live ladybugs. read more

This, like other Ace Hardware stores, is the place to go when you need unusual metric fasteners, clips, or whatca-ma-callits. The tool department is small, but adequate. Their selection of plumbing and bulk hosing is decent. The selection and relative ease of finding what you need justifies the consistently slightly higher prices over a Home Depot, Lowes, or even OSH. read more

After getting turn -away . lo0king over my propane tanks that were perfectly fine.( all less then 4 years old)I brought my 20 gallon bottle in and(josh) same person that turned me away the first TIME(VERY UPSET) (THE TANK NAZI)Started pumping propane without resetting the meter(6 gal) on purpose...HE (lied) and said(OH THESE TANKS FILL FAST) Not true...after pumping 22 gal of propane .AND THE BOTTLE still wasn't full (20 gallon tank) I knew exactly what had happened. This Ace hardware definitely has the best range of products, large inventory etc. occasionally the employees are either ignorant of their product line or just inexperienced. It can be frustrating to talk to someone that does not know what they are talking about especially with something like electrical. But if you are willing to go it alone and have the time to get in there an dig it out. They probably have it. In their defense it must be hard to get good employees these days. read more

I live close to The Ace store on Eureka way in Redding, so that is the first place I go when I need something. I commute daily by bicycle and have to carry a backpack for my work gear. I was on my way home and decided to stop in and see if they had a certain size of bolt I needed. As I neared the back of the store I was told I had to leave my back pack at the front of the store. I refused, letting them know that I didn't want my gear sitting at the check stand where any one could get to it. I let them know that they could follow me around while I shopped, I didn't mind. I realize in this day and age it it is hard to trust folks. As management at a major retailer in town for many years, I have learned the best way to lose customers is to treat them the way I was treated today. Mistrust,............. I didn't even get a " Hi, how are you today?" or " Is there any thing I can help you locate?" I usually recommend Ace hardware or Orchard as the place to go to when the retailer that I work at doesn't carry an item. I guess Orchard it is! I will no longer recommend this Ace Hardware, and I will most likely go out of my way to let my customers and friends know of the "non-service" that I received today. read more

This has got to be the worst Ace Hardware ever. I'm only giving one star because it's a good location. I came here in January to rent a Uhaul truck that I had reserved a month previously. The prior renter had not returned the truck on time for me to rent it and although I understand this is not the fault of Ace Hardware employees, they did absolutely nothing to help me figure out another plan. I ended up leaving and going to the actual Uhaul location, explained to them what went on and got a truck and trailer for less than the original rental was going to cost me. But something more important, I asked for help finding an item in the store and the 3 employees that were just standing around the front counter just pointed me in the right direction. None of them were willing to stop their conversation to actually show me where the item was or to offer their opinion on the different choices I had to choose from. The employees at Walmart at least walk you to the item. I was so appalled with the way the employees at this location treated me that I refuse to give my money or time to any Ace Hardware store again. Save yourself and don't shop here. read more

This review is specifically about the U-Haul rental service in the store. DO NOT EVER RENT A U-HAUL HERE. I realize that U-Haul is not exactly the most upstanding company but the behavior of the people working the U-Haul counter at this Ace Hardware is beyond atrocious. If you choose to do business on behalf of U-Haul, you become their representative. In no way does this arrangement entitle you to throw up your hands and say "Don't blame me for the fact that you made a reservation weeks ago and the truck is not here now! I know I have another truck like the one you asked for but you can't have it! It's for someone else!" then mumble ridiculous nonsense as you run away like a mad little girl. But that's exactly what happened at this U-Haul location. They made absolutely no attempt to fix the situation. Their way of dealing with it is to deflect blame to the company they represent and take absolutely no responsibility for anything that happens. Once again DO NOT EVER RENT A U-HAUL HERE.
