Stopped into this location as a last resort in hopes of finding a simple (no pump) bird bath as a Mother's Day gift. We didn't anticipate finding what we were looking for since the nurseries in the area didn't seem to have anything, but we were pleasantly surprised! The tiny garden section offered a variety of bird baths in different colors and styles at very reasonable prices. We picked out a classic concrete bird bath and walked out spending 1/3 of what we anticipated. What a deal! After working 30+ years in retail myself, I just had what I think is the BEST retail experience in my life! Returned a pair of garden boots without tags or receipt that I had purchased over a month ago. The cashier had to look up all my past sales to hunt for the item, did it all with a smile and credited my card, THEN when I ask her if she knew anything about filling the new "safety first" gas cans (I hadn't even purchased it at Ace) but she called someone out to help me. The 1st young man didn't know but got another man to come out, (Rick). He ended up walking to the Gas Station (in their parking lot) and showing me how to fill the can! Nice, knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra mile! Shop local, folks. Cottonwood is lucky to have such an excellent business right in our back yard! read more

It was hot today and while driving home from Red Bluff to Cottonwood my car started to overheat. Upon arrival at the house I noticed my radiator drain plug had sprung a leak. I quickly jumped in my other vehicle to get over to Napa to pick up the part before closing time. Unfortunately they didn't have it so I decided to check out Ace Hardware before driving all the way to Anderson to check other auto parts stores. I was promptly greeted by the clerk at Ace and she quickly sent me to speak with their plumbing expert. I told him about my situation and showed him my old radiator plug. He said they didn't have something exactly like it but we could put together a few thing's that would get me fixed up. He gave me a small length of rubber hose (no charge), a brass plug, and 2 hose clamps. Then took the time to explain exactly what to do to fix the radiator on my vehicle. He even said he's done the same fix himself in the past. The whole thing cost under 4 bucks and saved me having to go into Anderson or Redding. What a great store to have in our community. Valley West Ace Hardware - Hardware Stores Near Me - Cottonwood, California

I've been shopping at Ace Hardware for over 40 yrs. Went into the Cottonwood store today and while I like that they have a lot of stuff in there, I will not be returning. While I understand help is hard to find these days, the guy at the counter needs some serious customer service training! He was bothered that he couldn't read the SKU on the bag of rock and wanted me, a 62 yr. old woman to lift the 50 lb. bag out of the cart and up onto the counter. I'm pretty fit, but that's also very heavy for me to lift, especially up from the ground. And he was clearly very put out that he had to look up other SKU's for additional gravel and bark that I wanted to buy. And then he wouldn't accept my $100 bill because apparently, it could have been counterfeit. Never heard this either. The $100 bill came from the bank. Regardless of that, the customer service was seriously lacking at this store. We live in Camp Verde and this would have never happened at our Ace. They greet you when you walk thru the door, offer to help you lift into and out of your vehicle, AND there's always numerous people to help you in the store. It's a smaller store, but they will order anything for you. Lesson learned - I'm sticking to my home store in CV. Cottonwood Ace - you lost my business for good! read more

So I went to ace and forgot my wallet. She rudely informed me that they only take apple pay. I asked if we could give it a try, she said. I guess. So presented my ace members coupon that expired 2 days ago. The ace in redding and anderson always take my coupon expired or not. I told the cashier this and she replied who told you that!? Where did you hear that!? Well we have different owners and we won't take it. My computer won't take it. In a very rude tone. We all know the system can be over ridden to make the discount. You would think that an ace that doesn't have much. (I've been there a few time they don't have what I need) would want to make a sale, honor a 2 day expired coupon and give some good customer service. This store was a lifesaver to me when I used to work nearby. The staff is genuinely helpful, but not in that annoying way that some places do. One cashier, Triniti, recognized me from years ago and has always greeted me with smiles and competent help, along with pleasant conversation. (she should get a raise)...the other employees have always been great too. This is a good example of a well run, well stocked hardware store. read more

This is my local Ace. I am a female business owner in our small town. I went in to purchase a sump pump. After two trips and a phone call to the manager, I sent my husband down. Not receiving the correct attachments and being hung up on by Ben. When my husband started To describe the events to the salesperson he was verbally attacked by Jim (salesman)and (Ben)manager. They told my husband that we obviously aren't from here. That he should not have sent his wife into Ace Hardware. He should have bought it himself. Manager not helpful. Went here instead of driving to Home Depot to buy rebar. They didn't have the right lengths but employee said they would cut it. After cutting one piece, manager wouldn't let him cut more. Manager's solution; "I'll sell you a saw and blades to finish the job". He then walked away and we were stuck with the wrong sizes. Lesson: Go to Home Depot. read more
