There were so many choices in Finn Hall that I really struggled to pick, but when I saw this place had she crab soup I had to stop. I've never been able to find it outside of the low country and this definitely stood up to the rest. The food was fresh and fast and our entire party enjoyed their orders. Service was excellent. Poboy was good. Had 5 shrimp on what most places would consider a half bun. Nice fried but but looked sparse even on that bun. Serves with some forgettable seasoned fries. I really like the concept that this place is going for, but they are seriously overcharging and underachieving for what they could be serving. My wife and I came by with some friends to check out Finn Hall and three of us opted to eat here. My wife went with the chicken and sausage gumbo and a crab cake. I got the crab soup, crawfish etouffee balls, and hush puppies. We grabbed beignets for dessert. Our total came to about $60 for those items. On the whole, the food was disappointing. The gumbo roux was terribly bland; I've had better gumbo out of a TV dinner. The crab cake was delicious and full of lump crab, but for the size and the fact that you only got one, was very overpriced at $14. The crab soup was a highlight. It was a bit pricey but I haven't had anything like it in Houston. It was sweet, creamy, and perfect for a cold winter day, but probably not something I'd order year round. On the other hand, the crawfish etoufee side consisted of only two balls, and you only got four hushpuppies for $4.50. The beignets were a disappointment across the board. They were served TWO (seriously?!) in an order for $6. They were dry and way too thick. I'm not a beignet connoisseur or anything, but from the 3-4 places I've had beignets from before, these were easily the worst I've ever tried. Overall, the place is a bit of a rip off. Got to try this place out last night! I ordered the gumbo and etoufee balls. I'm from Louisiana, and didn't find it true to Cajun food, but would highly recommend it to someone that isn't from there. The gumbo was pretty good, hearty. The etoufee balls were good, but not sure why they serve it with marinara - that's odd. I would like to give this place another shot though with the po-boy and hush puppies. The display of fresh fish is very great and really draws the crowd. I do think the main downside is that this place is quite pricey. I will update more as I've tried other things on the menu. read more

I LOVE their steamed muscles and shrimp poboy. I don't love the beignets, they're a little heavy on the inside (or I just got an off batch). The quality is consistent for both lunch and dinner times. They're definitely a little pricey for the portion sizes. There's the odd occasion that we put in to-go orders and found that some items (e.g. an order of hush puppies) are forgotten. Highly disappointed. Ordered a shrimp platter ($15 although the menu shows $14) and crab soup ($8). The shrimp platter included with 5 shrimp (of decent size and good quality) but the batter had no seasoning and fell off as I tried to eat the shrimp. The fries were cold & greasy and the hush puppies must have absorbed oil while cooking because they were soggy. I also ordered crab soup which had only little bits of crab and the soup itself only tasted like heavy cream. There are MUCH better places for seafood, especially at the price point. I stumbled upon Finn Hall before my trip to Dallas. I love grits, so I asked the young lady at the register if she can tell me more about the entree. She looked so confused, as to, "what do you mean?" So then I proceeded with follow-up questions like, "what type of fish is it?", "is there a sauce they put on top?", "does it have bacon?", "Is there cheese in the grits". I thought if someone asked you to describe a dish at your restaurant, you just start to describe it. So her customer service skills can improve a bit. Maybe it was a bit too early for her?!? I don't know, but that was a tad annoying. The last question I asked is, "Is it is pretty large portion?" She said yes. I enjoyed the food, but maybe the portion size is for a baby, or models that barely eat. I left there pretty hungry still! Now for the food! I enjoyed it! It was a simple dish, literally a fresh piece of flounder, over simple grits. I enjoyed it. It could use a pinch of salt, but I didn't really need the salt. After about 3 bites, I was finished. Thank God for the bread they put on the side! If I'm Houston again, I would return and try something else, but eat first! Also, they are pretty expensive for their portion size. My friends and I went to the new location on Bingle; in Spring Branch (Houston). The service was good; but we were the only ones in there, so I'm not surprised. I ordered a margarita. It was awful. I tried to like it, but it was flavorless save for the tajin rim. I drank half; was never asked about it nor offered any other beverage.....even water. The she crab soup was good. The oyster po boy was average. Tiny oysters and only 4 on each half. I asked for slaw; was given fries. The desserts were okay, but nothing I'd order again. A couple of friends invited us out to try finn hall where there's 10 restaurants inside one building. How cool is that! We decided to eat at Low Tide which is mostly seafood, and I was A-okay with that! We tried a few different items starting with the snapper ceviche. I was surprised that this little place had one of the most flavorful ceviches I've ever had. On top of that, it was served with rice cakes...o how delicious. Next we tried the blackened fish tacos which were delicious as well. The crabcake we ordered was ok but nothing to brag about. The fish and chip basket was just ok as well. Super new Finn Hall boasts a mega food court experience. After perusing the options, the seafood spot, Low Tide, drew me in with it's fresh display of seafood and happy hour menu! I tried a Gulf Coast oyster shooter and the crawfish etoufee balls. The oyster (for a non oyster lover, was delicately balanced with a sweet oyster liquor, zippy cocktail sauce and slice of lemon. Fresh and flavorful, I probably could have downed a dozen if I was hungrier. The etoufee balls were nicely fried, and topped a sweet and just spicy enough marinara sauce. This review is based solely on their small snacks. I had their crispy crawfish etoufee balls. It comes with 2 and is around $4.50. But man I wish they came with more! This is amazingness in a ball. It's pretty much jambalaya and crawfish fried in a ball. I would def come back for this again! I also had their hush puppies. There were 4 of them. The honey butter spread makes a huge difference.
