This place is A-okay compared to the Oakridge mall loving hut! Very similar to Valley Fair, this Loving Hut is an asian style vegan buffet. I ordered strategically by focusing on the entrees rather than the carbs, and got some seitan beef, and soy chicken which I thought were both okay. I definitely recommend ordering the fake shrimp roll since it was so good with the peanut sauce, and also try out the potato salad, since it's usually hard to get that vegan. I got some chowmein as well but it was so dry, I shouldn't have even gotten the mains and stuck to the meat entrees! read more

Great food. The chocolate hazelnut cake tastes like bad frosting. There is no hazelnut flavor. The cake bit was supposedly chocolate but was flavorless. I returned it after two bites. My friend agreed it was off. The Thai iced tea tasted like the tea was not steeped enough. It was like watery condensed milk. It cost $30 for a tea, soup and dessert. You can tell they focus on the food here, not the drinks or dessert. The staff was not very friendly. Bummer. read more

So blown away from not only the amazingly cooked food but also by the astounding service here at the Loving Hut in Milpitas! This was the first time coming here after many years so I was excited to return and try out all their food again. We ordered the Green Forest, Tofu Eggplant, Crispy Mushroom, and Tom Kha Thai Soup. We were surprised by the portions (there was three of us and we still couldn't finish it all). Everything was fantastic - each dish was packed with immense flavor and tasted so good. My fav has to be the Tom Kha soup...it had a nice spice flavor to it but it was balanced by the sweetness of the coconut. My other favorite was the Tofu Eggplant; the sauce was so yummy! Def recommend that w/ brown rice. I didn't get our server's name, but he was wearing a fanny pack. He was extremely friendly and had a fun personality, shouts out to to him! There were so many options so i had such a hard time choosing, i wanted everything! I ended up ordering the rainbow salad and steamed dumplings for takeout. I wish i took pictures before eating. rainbow salad: 5/5 i was extremely impressed with the dressing of this salad. it tastes like the dipping sauce for egg rolls. the dressing is tangy, flavorful, and light. one of the best i've had in its category. steamed dumplings: 5/5 wow i was very impressed with these dumplings! they were ginormous and filled with a delicious inside with a gingery fragrance. I have had many dumplings in my life and these are ranked at the top. overall I am very impressed with this restaurant. I've ordered here a couple years back and i remember it being amazing. Service: 2/5 The bigger party that arrived after us was served water, cutleries and order was taken before us. I raised my arm to get their attention but was ignored. Food: Overall - 2/5 a. Saigon Rolls (not fried) - 3/5 The saigon rolls by themselves are pretty decent. The sauce that they provided us for the saigon rolls was sour and didn't pair well with the rolls. We found it better paired with the sweet chili sauce on the table provided. b. Pho - 2/5 The soup was bland, side vegetables given were very little and there was a metal ribbon (idk what that was) found in the bowl of Pho. Tofu inside the pho was also very limited, in quantity and variety. It was honestly quite sad. c. Bun Hue - 3/5 Taste was overall better than the Pho. But the tofu and vegetables were also very limited in quantity and variety. There are better vegetarian Bun Hue's out there (eg. Tofoo Com Chay 5/5). Cleanliness - 5/5 Price: $$ Total paid w/ tip was $42.00. In our opinion, it is not worth it to get any of these items reviewed at their price point. The taste does not go hand in hand with it's price point. Overall: 2/5 Rating given was based on the items we ordered and service provided that day. This is our go-to place for delicious Vegan food! Our order generally has these items: Spring Rolls, Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Chow Mein, Mapo Tofu and General Tso. The food here is always great and fresh. Plus, they use NO MSG and they are able to customize almost all dishes to exclude onion and garlic. From all the dishes, the General Tso is our favorite. Vegan nuggets in a spicy sauce that pairs well with any kind of rice or noodles. The nuggets are crisp and the sauce is delicious. We have tried the Bao, Saigon Rolls and Panang Curry but they were not very impressive. Yet to try their Vegan desserts, will do that soon! The presentation of all the dishes is great and love their side of cabbage salad they serve. It is always easy to get a table in there but sometimes a challenge to get a parking spot in the crowded complex! Friendly servers, quick service and great food sums up the place! read more

4 stars for the food, 2 stars for the pickup experience. They don't do curbside pickup so you'd have to go indoors to pick up the package. There were guests piling up inside and outside, with terrible etiquettes, zero social distancing and no regard for who came first or for queue formations. It was pure chaos and I couldn't help but silently panic, wishing I had never ordered. Tons of places will happily keep the food at a table at the door or pop the food in my trunk. Oh well. Great place to eat at whether you're vegan/vegetarian or not! I used to go here often in high school for their signature spicy cha cha dish - but haven't been back since 2014. Came recently as I've wanted to try their spicy cha cha dish as when I had it at vegetarian house it wasn't what I expected it to be. Spicy cha cha: 4/5 without sauce, 4.5/5 with. I remembered this dish having more garlicy/aromatic flavors, but this was a bit liking if you eat the "shrimp" by itself. You have to really grab the shrimp with the bell peppers, onions and garlic mix to get a good grasp of the flavor. But even so.. maybe I enjoyed it more in person back in high school. But don't get me wrong - this was still very good! Rolling tango: 4/5. Loved that they provided the orange sauce separately. The "chicken" wasn't cut evenly so some pieces were very long and thin while others short and thick. But it was fun to eat! Very crispy and honestly reminded me of orange chicken. Very good. The reason why I gave 4 instead of 5 was because the sauce was a bit too sweet to my liking. I easily fixed it up by adding some minced garlic, onions, a bit of garlic salt and liquid aminos, and finished it with some white pepper. Pretty good! Would come back :) read more

The food here is exceptional. We tried a couple of noodles & rice & everything was very light & tasty. The dessert was a little average but I guess that's the best you can do with vegan options. Service here was awesome . We came to the restaurant almost at their closing time but the cashier Johnny was so considerate to us that he took our orders & set up a a table outside for us. I love the San Francisco location (inside Westfield mall) of Loving Hut, so I decided to try the Milpitas one. Especially in terms of the price point, I felt like I had very different experiences. I ordered the Lucky Curry and I felt like the curry was a little watered-down and lacked flavor, it could pass as soup if you really tried. Also ordered a small bowl of rice and that was most definitely enough for the entire curry. Overall, okay experience - would definitely recommend the San Francisco location. I feel like you get a little more bang for your buck (you can get three entrees and a side for also the same amount you pay for one dish here - $15). read more

Wow not sure what happened but quality and taste has gone downhill remarkably since the last time I've come here. As much as it pains me to give a bad rating, it's a lot more painful for my wallet and tastebuds. I wanted to try other popular items but it didn't go so well. By far the worst "pad thai" I have tasted. They didn't used pad thai noodles- it was very thick, sauce was watery and orange but had no pad thai flavor whatsoever. Panang curry was also watery and bland and filled with random vegetables. The spicy lemongrass noodle was also watered down and had no flavor. Tasted like super bland mushroom soup with a few pieces of mushroom and tiny pieces of tofu. Zero lemongrass or 5 spice that you usually taste in vegan bun bo hue elsewhere. Healthy tasteless. I'm always looking for Asian vegan when I'm in town. I used to go to mint and basil but they closed. So glad I found this place. We had the curry fried rice, sautéed veggie dish, and chow fun. Everything was delicious and I love how they allowed for modifications (less salt). Prices were very reasonable ($13-$14 each) and service was good. I've had Loving Hut in Valley Fair and liked it, so I came here to grab some takeout for lunch today. The worker who took my order was polite and I had my stir fry in 10 minutes..but...it was so TINY! I thought they had accidentally given me a half order! I was appalled that I paid $15 for what I received. When I had Loving Hut at Valley Fair, I paid ~$9 for noodles and an eggplant side. Just the eggplant side alone was pretty much the size of this entree. Loving Hut needs no introduction! My friend and I stopped by for dinner on Saturday night after a shopping spree at Great Mall. The restaurant is conveniently located in a strip mall surrounded with plenty of other Asian establishments. There is plenty of parking around. I was surprised to find the restaurant empty on a Saturday night, but lucky for us the service was fast. The staff were super friendly especially the lady who seated us. We ordered the steamed potstickers, the Fabulous Pho and the Rolling Tango. I'm a fan of potstickers but this one was so tasty. The dressing on the side was a perfect accompaniment. The pho was delicious, bursting with beautiful flavors. The tango dish had sweet, fried soy protein in a sweet spicy sauce. We really enjoyed our dinner. Great place for Vegetarians and Vegans! Since I found this place, I've frequented the place. The food is rustic & flavourful! It re-imagined some Asian classic dishes to Vegan dishes. Now, it is still not the same, but it does hit the spot. I recommend this place to new vegans/ vegetarians (like myself), because it will curb your craving for meat! Now, I did take away a star for the following reasons: 1. Plating. I would describe the food here as rustic Asian fusion. Most of the plating is fine. There are some dishes that, for whatever reason, use huge rectangular plates; my best guess is that the chef wants to "elevate the plating" - the dish I'm referring to is their Golden Beach, which half the plate is food, the other half is a single sprig of parsley. Rustic food + foofoo plating does not look appetizing. My advice to the chef, stick to rustic cooking, rely on your flavors, and forget about the foofoo plating. We didn't eat the parsley, so to me, the negative space created by using only half the plate is a waste. Plus, this negative space creates an impression that we didn't get a lot of food. Use a plate that matches with the portion of food; diners will think that they are getting a good amount of food. 2. Menu. I've ordered the Emperor's Roast twice - never available. On my last visit, 2 out of the 3 items I ordered are not available. Advice to owners, either get like a stick note and cover up the items not available or train the wait staff to notify diners of items not available for the day. It'll create a better experience for your guests. 3. Service. Service is not bad, they are a bit short-staffed. I did have to get the attention of the wait staff multiple times for water (some of their dishes are spicy). Not a huge deal, but my advice is to leave a jug of water at each table for the guests to serve themselves. Also ought to make your servers' lives easier. 4. Decor. The place is fine. I'm not a fan of the posters of all the Famous Vegan posters that is right by one of the booths. Now, I enjoyed the first time reading that poster, seeing which famous people are Vegan - it was educational. It quickly became boring even before the dishes were served. By the second time I visited, it feels like the people on the posters were staring at me eating... maybe I'm just self-conscious since I'm not a body-building vegan. I'd recommend having those posters near the entrance for people who are interested in learning about Veganism. Not for the guests who are already committed to a vegan meal. Sitting at that booth feels like I'm eating with that 1 vegan friend who can't stop talking about veganism. OK! I get it, you are vegan - you know, THAT friend? Now, I know it seems like I have a lot of negative things to say about this place; despite all of the above, I will come back again and again - even if they keep sitting me at that 1 booth with the judgemental posters. That's how much I enjoy their food. That's how much I'd recommend it to other people. read more

Wow i am pretty amazed at the quality of food here. Every first day of tet me and my family usually go to a temple in san jose to eat and buy vegetarian food for the day. This year we decided to skip because we have grown tired of eating the same thing all day. So instead we decided to try a vegan asian restaurant. I found this place and decided to give it a try. The food seemed very visually appealing so i decided to give it a shot. I dont like to dine at places based off high reviews. Ive learned over the year alot of these "yelpers" have very bad taste in food and have no clue wtf they are talking about most of the time. So we order the fish and chips which tasted very clean. Probably even the cleanest fried food ive had in some time. No old or weird meaty after taste from the oil. The vegan pho was amazing as well. Probably the best vegan pho ive ever had and packed with a good amount of flavor. I ordered the lucky curry which was whatever. Finally the last dish we ordered was i want to say the general tso dish which was pretty damn good as well. Since everything we got was pretty solid we ordered tons of food to take home. I usually tend to stay away from vegan places when we dine out but i definitely would make an exception for this location. I later learned this restaurant is franchised but every locations menu is different. Anyways the food was great and so was the service. I'm not a vegetarian, but the food was pretty good. I would say the reviews really overhype the food by comparing it to meat. While the food is delicious, it is NOT meat. The closest dish to meat that we had was the honey walnut shrimp. The flavors were a bit off in a dish we ordered that was supposed to mimic sweet and sour chicken. It was way too saucy, and they sauce was almost too strong in taste, overpowering everything. We ordered a noodle dish which was okay, but I prefer the chow mein from almost any of the other Chinese restaurants I go to. If you want meat, go to your favorite Chinese restaurant and order and eat what you really want to. This is not a substitution if you're looking to eat meat. If you don't eat meat and want a meat-like meal, this seems like a great option. Also, just because it's vegan, don't think it's healthier. There was definitely a good amount of grease and salt / sodium in all the food! Diners beware, they have some odd shows on TV and odd quotes around the restaurant. I believe they were pushing some type of peace message (which I'm all for), but it was presented in a really strange way. Update : I was hospitalized for dehydration. I fainted at a family party and was taken by ambulance to the ER. The suspicion is that all the diarrhea from the food poisoning I had from this place left me so dehydrated that all the water I had was not enough to make me "okay", and caused me to collapse on my ankle, leg, and head (on concrete with my luck) I'm on day 4 of crutches, and day 4 of consistent swelling. They said I sprained my ankle and foot but it could be a possible fracture. Getting an MRI in a couple days. Avoiding this place like the plague! read more

Have you ever had a meal that left you so satisfied, but with a clean feeling? That's how I feel every time I've eaten at Loving Hut... it's by far one of my favorite places in this shopping plaza. Loving Hut is actually a chain and there are a variety of locations along the west coast - there's even one in Seattle. But each location seems to have its own menu, and I particularly like the menu of the Milpitas location for its variety and creativity. Keep in mind... EVERYTHING is vegan here. There is no use of meat, dairy, egg, or honey... yet you would never know that you weren't eating any of these things, as the dishes themselves are delicious. At least the Asian themed ones. It's actually quite creative how they do it. I've tried the following: - Yam Crescent Spring Rolls: When you first see this, you may think it's shrimp. It looks like shrimp. The texture is a lot like shrimp... and it is pretty close to tasting like shrimp. But it's not shrimp. They're yam crescents. And they're f****ing amazing, especially in a spring roll. It tastes just like a Vietnamese spring roll... peanut sauce and all. - Clay Pot Sensation: The dish itself has a delicious spicy sauce, but what amazes me is their "fish". They use bean curd wrapped with seaweed to imitate the flakiness of the meat and fish skin. It's so clever and well executed, a great seafood substitute like the yam crescents. - Fried Oyster Mushroom: I've always loved fried mushrooms... but these are a step above. The breading is so light but crispy, and the mushroom is so moist and meaty inside. It tastes incredible with whatever sauce they provide - I think it's some kind of ponzu sauce, not sure. Either way, totally recommend this dish, it's not greasy at all! - Walnut Cha Cha: A vegan remake of Honey Walnut Shrimp, I actually like these a lot better than some variations of the real deal from other Chinese restaurants. They use yam crescents once again to substitute shrimp The batter is tasty and the sauce is sooo good. Also like the fried walnuts! - Tom Yum Fried Rice: So tasty! The tom yum paste isn't too spicy and goes really well blended with the rice... I love how it has broccoli and yam crescents in it too. Perfect side dish rice to accompany your other entrees. YAM CRESCENTS ARE MAGICAL - I wish they were available for purchase at a Whole Foods! They actually sell an 18lb bag for $50 (yes I inquired about this haha)... I'd probably go for it if I was a vegan/vegetarian. They're an excellent protein substitute and super tasty! Please bring the yam crescent dishes to the Seattle location of Loving Hut. =( Is it expensive? A little, but we're talking about trying to recreate popular Asian dishes in a vegan sense... that can't be easy. Plus they seem to always offer a Groupon, so I highly recommend looking into that before visiting for the first time. There is always some weird program they play on the TV and the constant vegan propaganda plastered at the entrance wall... but I'm OK with it and can overlook it for this 5 star review. Very nice Asian vegetarian restaurant that quite respect the original taste of many famous Chinese dishes while being 100% vegetarian. It's always a difficult challenge to try to imitate meat dishes but everything at Loving Hut was great. I had tried their small location at Westfield Oakridge in the past and was pleasantly surprised (Thai lemongrass soup was excellent). This larger (original?) location features a much extended menu. I stick to some traditional Chinese style food (dumplings and cumin tofu) but had the opportunity to try the deep friend rolls, spring rolls and eggplant curry. Sauces, seasoning, every dishes were tasty and well prepared. A huge plus for the cumin tofu (deep friend) I almost ate the whole thing by myself. Their spicy dumplings were fantastic, spring rolls very fresh. a slight disappointment with the eggplant curry, a bit too bland, but in the end, I hadn't (and wouldn't have) chosen this dish. 2.5 at best I'd say based on the food. I'd say lower personally. Needed grub for a long evening so I picked up a to go order. Been to the one inside Westfield over in San Jose and liked it so I figured it should be decent. The inside seemed pretty dead for a Friday night, might've been a sign but hunger kept me ordering out of curiosity. The service at the front is friendly and attentive. So I ordered a tofu n eggplant over rice, fragrant nugget, and an order of the pad thai. Everything was cooked pretty well, but the flavors were underwhelming for the most part. I liked the tofu n eggplant but there wasn't that much as far as the ingredients unfortunately. More of the cup was sauce than the food. The fragrant nugget was just dry and mostly flavorless, made gritty by the spices that were used with it. The tofu was chewy also and only made for decent bites with the veggies. The pad thai was terrible. No flavor. Only thing that provided flavor was the peanuts on top. Also, only few ingredients aside from noodles so it was just one note throughout without things to differentiate it. Very disappointing. Not inedible but that shouldn't be the consolation for any place. Price to satisfaction was quite low unfortunately. I wouldn't return again because of the experience. read more
