Best biscuits in the South! Everything is homemade, local and fresh. Friendly, homey atmosphere. Come early before the biscuits sell out!!!

Best Biscuits and Gravy with poached egg in America

This is my first review I have posted before leaving the premises where I had a meal. I am in Asheville NC supporting the community after the devastation caused by Helene. I had the BEST biscuits & gravy I have ever had. Due to the lack of clean water they use disposable dishware/utensils but that, doesn't reduce the quality, freshness and taste of the dish. The biscuits are perfect and the gravy''s consistency, and protein ingredients are flavorful and delicious I compliment the kitchen staff The wait staff is friendly and deliver excellent service.

My hubby and I stopped here for brunch on our way down the mountain and I cannot rave enough. The food was delicious and came out fast even though they were full. The staff were lovely and attentive. We didn't have the kids with us but I will not hesitate to bring them next time. Seating inside is a little limited but I know they'd make it work. The ambiance was great. Very home cooking esque and cozy. Definitely give Louise's Kitchen a try and don't forget to try the vanilla bean syrup... Trust me.

Reuben Sandwich (GF bread, no Swiss) Potato Salad
    Luca D.

Service and ambiance went well and the inside felt like being invited to someone else's house. I got a Reuben sandwich (with corn beef, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing) without Swiss cheese on GF bread, alongside potato salad. The flavors of the sandwich worked out well, but the bread I thought was a little soft. Regarding the potato salad, I usually prefer it warm and this was ice cold, but it was seasoned with paprika and chili powder, which gave it a good kick. Overall, this is the ideal diner-themed spot.

Decided to try a new place. My daughter and I love Black Mountain so we decided to drive up early for breakfast. We chose Louise's kitchen. My daughter order the grit pancakes, delicious. I ordered a veggie bagel with egg, and we shared a fresh made cinnamon roll. The food was absolutely delicious. I forgot pictures of our food because we just dug in so quickly and gobbled everything up. I apologize. Next time there will be pictures. The coffee (nice and strong, yummy )and the service were great. The house is absolutely lovely. I love the ambience and sitting in what was once someone's home really adorable. Please don't skip one of their homemade cinnamon rolls. It was worth the drive to Black Mountain alone.

A very unique experience. You order as you go into the restaurant. As you obtain your seat, someone takes your drink order. The food was five star, the big boy burrito and the grit cake were amazing. When we arrived Saturday morning around 9:30, there was a line of about 20 people which was intimidating but it moved fast enough, especially understanding that they take your order as you enter. A must visit restaurant.

This place has decent food. Nothing to rave about. Nothing to complain about. They have a variety of breakfast all day and a few more lunch items. I like the grit cakes and black beans. It's yum. Biscuits are quite good but not the best locally. I like the vibe. I have friends who love the pancakes. Coffee is good, they had oat milk. Out door seating is plentiful in warm weather. They get very busy. So if it's peak time (they close at 2pm) except a wait. Showing up closer to 2 gets you straight in typically and they don't rush you to leave -- extra bonus points for that!

A breakfast spot walking distance from your hotel is always a bonus. But when it's a gem like this place, that's a blessing. Cool old house turned into a restaurant. Their outdoor seating is on the wrap around porch. Perfection. We sat on the porch and enjoyed coffee, juice, fresh fruit, perfectly cooked eggs, biscuits with gravy and a magical waffle. It may seem silly but to order a side of fruit and get actual fruit instead of a bowl of melon was amazing. Thankful for small businesses like this!!

Food here is absolutely a must try! I got the Egg Special (served only on Sundays), which can be described as a Egg Benedict but with a twist! Sauce is super yummy and the sausage is amazing! From what I understood, the sausage is locally sourced and it has a lot of flavor! If you go for this dish, I assure you, you wont regret it! The French Toast was alright, nothing out of the ordinary. If you are looking for something sweet, try something else on the menu. The place itself has a homie feeling! And the people are very friendly!

Market has myriad gourmet items, from wines, interesting beers, cookies and snacks, mountain favorites (pickled okra ), and gifts. Also a robust frozen section with ready to heat meals (lasagna from a company in Charlotte was a surprising 11/10), fish, meats, etc. Deli counter with steaks, fresh fish, cold cuts and deserts. Their deli sandwiches were spectacular. We tried the caprese, turkey and chicken salad versions - all great. Full bar inside too for tipsy shopping. For breakfast we had egg sandwiches and biscuits and gravy - excellent, no notes. Staff and owners very friendly and efficient. Dog friendly patio was a plus (hi Cooper!). A must-go in Black Mountain.

We visited the deli/shop as the restaurant was closed. We stopped in to grab lunch. They have salads by the pound and premade sandwiches. Very limited menu. We ordered the Italian sub which was on crusty bread and warmed up. Very tasty. Since couldn't modify sandwiches and order without the bread, ordered a half pound of the chicken salad. It was good. Had berries and grapes with lots of herbs in it. Could have done without the grapes. Grabbed a bag of Bloody Mary chips that were tasty. They do have lots of wine and a huge drink case. There's also the market that sells lots of unique and specialty brands, as well as local brands. They do have several bakery items such as cookies and some lovely looking cakes available by the slice. This is a boutique style deli/store so be aware that that vibe is also reflected in their pricing. Nice place to explore.

Here are a few of my chief complaints: 1) There was no one to check me in when I arrived late after a long flight from California. After standing in the empty front room for a while, I saw a small sign saying to call a number to check in. I called twice before an insolent teen in sweatpants finally showed up to give me my key. 2) The inn adds a daily "tip" for room cleaning on top of an already high bill. (This is one of the more splurgey places to stay in the Black Mountain area.) If that wasn't rude enough, no one ever came by during my three-night stay to clean/tidy the room. The toilet bowl had dirt marks all over it when I showed up and there they stayed for the duration of my visit. No one made the bed. 3) Internet did not work. 4) Breakfast begins late -- at 8.30am -- because the chef has to take his five children to school. Seriously. So if you're staying there for work, as I was, you have to get breakfast elsewhere. That being said, after a lengthy argument with aforementioned insolent teen, the chef prepped me some breakfast items before he left for the night and left them in the fridge. That was very sweet of him.
