Visited Detroit for the first time and pizza was a must right? After doing my research I decided to pay a visit at loui's. Pizza was good but it definitely felt too cheesy for me. I could barely finished two slices given how hearty it was. Expect the pizza wait to be at least 15 to 20 mins. When we went at 3pm on a Sunday there were actually good amount of customers.
It's awesome old style Detroit experience is a restaurant that one should not miss. The waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. The classic Detroit pizza was fresh with a crispy crunch. At Loui's, you're allowed to use a knife and fork on de pizza.
I love the old school vibes. Service was a bit spotty, but friendly. The antipasto salad was great, love the dressing on it. I enjoyed the pizza too but it's very filling and heavy. A very solid option for Detroit style pizza.
We had been seeing this place pop up on my feed for a while, so when my friend group and I were in Detroit we wanted authentic Detroit style pizza, so this was the obvious choice. We made sure to get there right when they opened and there were already people trickling in and the waitress mentioned the locals come so regularly it's basically a habit at this point. We ordered three different pizzas for 4 people. They have premade options but you can also build your own with toppings. Everything was delicious and exactly what we expected from Detroit pizza. The inside has this really fun retro vibe with wine bottles decorations. It is a great place for any occasion, families, date night, a big friend group, or even coming alone for a bite. Would recommend if you're in the area and want the real deal.
OMG this is the best. Waited way too long to go here for my first time. Service was super nice and enjoyed I was taking pics to post. They understand!!!! Just got a pepperoni and an antipasto. Both so good.
First stop on my Detroit Pizza crawl. Second review as I wanted another to compare to. Absolutely fantastic pizza. When I couldn't decide, server recommended a half and half of the meat lovers and pepperoni/mushroom. I managed to stuff myself with 3 out of 4 slices of a small pizza but if I had someone with me, I would have split the pizza and salad potentially. Super friendly service. Great total experience.
Loui's was a childhood favorite of mine, but I hadn't been in years! We ended up going on a Friday night, and even though the parking lot was absolutely packed, we ended up getting seated right away. The ambiance is exactly as I remember it being. Cozy, familiar, and casual, and the staff was nice and welcoming. I ended up ordering the small cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom pizza with a side of ranch. It was the prefect Detroit style pizza, with crunchy edges and a fluffy crust. And, there was a perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings ratio. The prices were decent and the service was fast. I'm glad I gave this childhood favorite another go!
Best Detroit style pizza I have had. We ordered cheese and cheese/pepperoni pizza. They put the perfect amount of cheese on top with a delicious sauce and yummy crust. The service was quick. We called and ordered curbside takeout. As soon as we arrived, they came out to the car. Highly recommend.
Some of the best Detroit pizza, mediocre service, and a stale cannoli. We dined in, and for an old place with character, I will say it was quite clean. We had a large pizza and brought home the other half for lunch tomorrow. It's a good value. The cannoli we brought home and ate nearly immediately was stale and soggy. We will probably order takeout next time and skip the cannoli.
We wanted good Detroit style pizza and that's what we got. We did a to go order but the inside is a fun looking place. Service was great both at the ordering counter and the outside pickup. $20ish for a larger very cheesy pepperoni pizza with those classic crispy cheese ends. I wish we would have remembered to order a side of sauce because there's never enough on a Detroit style for our liking but it was yummy!
I really appreciate the system they have where you can call in the order and drive up to pick it up. We ordered one cheese and one pepperoni for pickup. It took about 25-30 minutes as made fresh. They do ask your make and model of your car so that they can associate your order. When we got there, a server came out to our car without us having to call. She was super nice and let us know that they marked the pepperoni pizza with one slice on the corner on top. The people that ate the pepperoni pizza loved it and I enjoyed the cheese. I do feel like I wanted more dough and sauce ratio as I just felt it was mostly cheese. Maybe with more toppings the ratio changes. I did enjoy the flavor though! The larges feed a lot of people because the sizes per piece are hefty. The pizzas were also nice and hot, which is a huge bonus because we also had to bring the pizzas back to the house for others. All in all, I think I just like more sauce and fluffy dough as this was a little dense and heavy. I would absolutely go back though.
I stopped in for lunch and was glad I did. I got lucky with the parking (it's limited) and found a booth immediately. After a couple minutes, my waitress came and greeted me and I had my food ordered within 5 minutes. As others have said, total blast from the past in here. Very unassuming interior which I can appreciate. My order came out in just under 30 minutes. It was not too busy when I was there, so just a head's up. I ordered a small meat lovers pizza. It was pretty fantastic. The exterior cheese crust was one of the best I've had. Plenty of toppings and lots of cheese. The structural integrity was a bit compromised (I get whey they give you a fork and knife, but Detroit Style pizza is meant to be raw dogged) which made a couple slices tough to eat. Also, these are big slices. I mustered through 3 before tapping out. Going back to the pizza, everything worked so well together and I liked the heavy amount of cheese on it. The bottom crust didn't have a ton of flavor, but that was not noticeable but for a few bites so not a big deal. Overall, I highly recommend Loui's. Better than Michigan and Trumbull (it's close) which many regard to be a top spot in and around Detroit. Very good experience.
I'm not a Detroit style pizza fan, but it was insanely good. They were able to accommodate our party of 10 on the spot, as well as the several pizzas we ordered. My favorite part of any pizza is the sauce which was very fresh and robust. I would have loved to take home another pizza, it was that good. And our waitress was very funny and hospitable. Loui's is a medium-sized dining room with one TV and a laid back environment. It can get loud as there isn't much to soak up sounds, and voices bounce off the walls. If you're willing to venture outside the city, Loui's should be on your list of eateries to visit. This place was recommended to us by a local.

I gave Loui's a try a couple of weeks ago after hearing about it for years, and the pizza was so good that I ended up going back less than a week later to have it again. Both times, I ordered a small four-square pizza with pepperoni and black olives, and Loui's absolutely knocked it out of the park. Don't let the word "small" fool you either -- this is a seriously filling pizza. Even a hungry customer is likely to leave full, satisfied, and already thinking about the next visit. What really stood out to me was the generous amount of cheese, the substantial weight of the pizza, and that perfectly crisp crust. It's rich, hearty, and exactly the kind of pizza you hope for when you're craving something substantial. The service was fantastic on both visits as well. My servers were friendly and attentive, and I also really enjoyed the old-school interior. It has that wonderfully dated, nostalgic feel that immediately brought me back to the good old days of going out to restaurants around Detroit as a kid. To me, that atmosphere is part of the charm. If you haven't tried Loui's Pizza yet, trust me -- you're missing out. After hearing about it for years, I can definitely see why it has such a loyal following, and I'll absolutely be back. read more
Always wanted to come here and we ended up having an office luncheon here to celebrate some work milestones. We called ahead and reserved a space for 17 people and they were very accommodating. The pizza here is FANTASTIC. The cheese pull was something to behold. It's cash only so if you're in a group make sure everyone has cash since they do not do separate checks. The Greek salad and antipasto salad was excellent and a HUGE recommendation and endorsement on the garlic cheese bread. It was so freaking good I could've just eaten that whole pan and called it a day. HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend coming here! read more

It finally happened. After scouring all of the metro Detroit area for a few years now, trying the so called "best" Detroit style pizzas and failing time after time to be impressed by Detroit's own namesake....ive found the one. Enter Loui's !! Hazel Parks iconic old school pizzeria. What an interesting vibe we got going here. I instantly feel like I've walked into a scene out of The Godfather. No this isn't 1980, but the character remains on full display. A great Detroit style is a delicate balance of thick crispy crust and high quality ingredients. Where most others fall flat, Loui's gets it all right. Sure the pepperoni under the cheese is a little different, but that's more aesthetics. What most stands out is the cheese itself! Clearly the highest quality of Wisconsin brick on full display, and plenty of it. It's a distinct flavor that instantly dances on your tongue! Loui's is the real deal. Now let me be clear....this is not the best Detroit style in the entire country, but it is without a doubt the best in Detroit. And to think this was the last place to try on my list. I guess they say save the best for last?! read more

I really enjoyed our dinner here. We didn't hold back and ordered pizza, salad, and cheese sticks. I literally cannot praise the cheese sticks enough. They were amazing. The pizza is great and really filling. I think I only ate 2 pieces. We definitely had plenty of leftovers to bring home. The ambiance of the place has a real nostalgic charm to it. It feels like a slice out of the 70s/80s and that's part of the appeal of eating at Loui's. read more

I'm always skeptical of places claiming to have the best Detroit style pizza. I'm usually left underwhelmed but Loui's pizza is the exception. It's worthy of 10 stars. Absolutely perfect Detroit style pizza with the best tasting crust. It's thick but cooked thoroughly where those caramelized edges have a nice crunch. We got our pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom. Their sauce is delicious and had the right amount on it. Now let's talk about the cheese. Our pizza had so much delicious cheese on it I thought I died and went to cheese heaven. Even splitting the small pizza my friend and I couldn't finish it and took half home. We also shared the small antipasto salad and that was another winner. Big chunks of meat and cheese and thick tomato slices. Their Italian dressing is in-house made and excellent. The ambience is old school Italian. Dark wood paneling, basement bar feeling with bottles of Chianti you can sign and they hang on the walls. Our bartender told us not much has changed over the years and I like that. Next time the pizza craving hits I'll be calling on Loui's to answer the call! read more
This place is amazing and exceeded our expectations on a Saturday evening! We have bookmarked this place to get a bite of Detriot style pizza. The parking lot is challenging, and we park in the lot opposite to Loui's. As we entered the restaurant, we could feel a completely different vibe with a lot of bottles hanging on the ceiling and a lot of families having conversations and enjoying their food. It felt this was a great place. We were greeted and provided a seating. We ordered mediterranean salad, Cheese Ravioli, and then the pizza. The waitress was courteous and mentioned the full house and wait times. The food came in about 30 minutes. The salad was well prepared, and we all liked it. The cheese ravioli was perfectly made, and the sauce was just right and thoroughly enjoyable and must try. Then we got the pizza, perfect crispy and cheese, and we can feel the goodness in taste on every bite. This was one of the best pizzas we had in some time. It's definitely worth the visit and hype for this joint. read more

Is this the right place? The neighborhood has more liquor stores than potholes and that is saying something. I didn't see any gun stores or strip clubs nearby but they wouldn't be out of place. The interior is gloriously cheesy. There are signed chianti bottles hanging from the walls and ceiling everywhere. You can sign and hang one, too, if you are so inclined. The main dining room is big and welcoming. And come as you are. It's casual and homey. Against all my shrilling inner alarm bells and any inner judgment I thought I once had, I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. It was awful and I didn't think that was possible until I remembered that you can order a "premium" Long Island (now THERE is an insane oxymoron) for an up charge. If you are as foolish as me, pay the extra couple of bucks. Never mind any of that. This place served us one of the BEST pizzas I have had in my life. We ordered the small Meat Lovers. It takes a half hour to bake and it's more than worth the wait. It is also as heavy as a tire so don't be fooled by its size. Two pieces is more than enough for a healthy appetite. It was heavy on the toppings but the superstar of the show is the crispy and ridiculously buttery outer crust. Next time just bring me that crust and wrap me inside of it. Every bite was crispy, buttery, and magical. Weirdly, the bottom crust was slightly undercooked. Whatever. Service was attentive and friendly. The staff has clearly seen it all and there's nothing they haven't seen before, good and bad. I am no expert in the different styles of pizza but I know what is good and what is great. And this is great pizza. Not even the worst Long Island on the planet could ruin that. read more
We came here this weekend to finally try out the acclaimed pizza and reader, this is really as good as people say. There was a bit of a wait on a Saturday night, but less than 20 minutes and we were at a table. Expansive place inside, and the service was friendly and quick. We opted to share some antipasto and ordered a large meat lover's Detroit style pizza. The antipasto was quite solid and kept us busy while we waited for the pizza. The pizza was magnificent. The edges. Oh boy. Those edges. Delicious, perfect melty crunch. Comparison-wise, I think probably the best Detroit-style pizza we've had. Their options are a bit more limited, so if you want something a bit more unique, Buddy's has a wider flavor selection, or White Elephant has really unique flavor combinations - but the pizza here is unmatched. Definitely check it out! read more

So far this is the best Detroit style pizza I have ever had, dough was soft, airy but yet had the perfect crunch and crisp to it. Toppings were generously applied and all tasted very good on the meatlovers. Cheese and sauce also were very tasty. This was pretty close to a perfect pizza in every way to me. read more

I placed an order for pick up so I didn't eat there but it seemed cozy and nice inside, like a family friendly establishment :D. The women at the counter who was handing over my food was a nice women no complaints. Pizza was good a little too doughy compared to other Detroit style pizzas I've had but still really good, I would say above average. The cheese bread was solid and it comes with a marinara sauce so I can't say anything. Overall would I go back? Sure, but I wouldn't be running towards it. Still a good place though, do recommend. read more

While visiting the Detroit area, my family and I tried 3 different Detroit-style pizza places since we are huge pizza lovers. We unanimously agreed that this was our favorite. The crust was crunchy and cheesy, the sauce was plentiful and the cheese was generous. We had sausage and pepperoni on the pizza and the topping were plentiful and further enhanced the delicious flavor of the pizza. This is a must-try spot for Detroit-style pizza! read more

This was honestly one of the best meat lovers pizza I have ever had. It's hard to find Detroit style pizza with a crust that is crunchy and cooked perfectly but they really know what they're doing. The antipasto salad with the house dressing was AMAZING. I see why they sell the dressing by the gallon. Service was great and the overall vibe of the place was laid back. They let the food do the talking and I see why Loui's has been in business as long as it has! read more

Can I get this shipped to the Bay area, Northern California? I want to try pizza from all over especially from old school joints like this!
I don't think they do at this time . Pizza is great !!!
Can I just get a side of meatballs? Has anyone had them and are they good?
Looks like the closest thing on the menu is 3 different kinds of meatball sandwiches. I'm sure you could probably order just meatballs if you were dining in with others and they ordered other food. Because it says extra meatballs (4) with mushrooms…
