It took us two attempts to dine here as we initially came on a Sunday and they were closed. I saw "open at 12pm" and didn't look at the day they open at that time so that's on me. Our second attempt was much better as we were seated right away without reservations. We did arrive shortly after they opened so that helped. It's a cozy restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We were sat in the back along the wall with the menu board displaying specials of the day. Tables are on the smaller side and you really get to know your neighbors. They moved the table so Mink could get in to sit on the booth. I had to move it so she could get out when we finished our meal.
Our server provided menus that had French on one side and English on the other. They must get a lot of tourists dining there. We glanced at the menu and called her to order when we were ready. After looking at photos of what they offered, we ordered French Onion Soup, Burgundy Way Snails x6, Beef Bourguignon w/Boiled Potatoes, Beef Tartar Seasoned w/Homemade French Fries and Salad, Madagascar Vanilla Crème Brûlée, Mineral Water and a glass of champagne (Palmer Brut Reserve).
The water and glass of champagne came out quickly but I personally thought the glass of champagne was on the smaller side. Shortly after, the French Onion Soup, Burgundy Way Snails x6 and some fresh baguette came out. They timed it out well as our mains came out after we finished our starters. We didn't order the Madagascar Vanilla Crème Brûlée initially but ordered it when they came back to take away our mains plates. That didn't take long to come out. While waiting, we realized a long line formed outside to dine here. It prompts me to recommend reservations before coming here.
French Onion Soup (4/5) - the soup was good with oozy cheese and pieces of diced onion. Portion size was good but the bowl they use needs a larger base. When I was trying to scrape some of the cheese on the side of the bowl, the bowl tipped over and I lost 20% of my soup.
Burgundy Way Snails x6 (4/5) - they provided utensils to get the snail meat out easily and the flavors weren't bad. Not the best I've had but above average. Just the right portion for 2 people.
Beef Bourguignon w/Boiled Potatoes (4/5) - the beef was so tender and the sauce was delicious! I had to use the baguette to soak up all the remaining sauce on the plate. They cooked the potatoes perfectly and the carrot added nice color to the presentation.
Beef Tartar Seasoned w/Homemade French Fries and Salad (4.5/5) - the beef tartar with a raw yolk on top was tasty and fresh but the star for us was the French Fries! It was mind blowing good and crunchy. Apparently French Fries taste significantly better in France!
Madagascar Vanilla Crème Brûlée (5/5) - Mink said 6/5 as this was the best Crème Brûlée she's ever had. I thought it was great and loved it. It wasn't too sweet and extremely creamy. I would have licked everything off the plate but didn't want to make Americans look like savages lol.
We're very glad that we came back to dine here after our first failed attempt. It was totally worth it and can see why they are so highly reviewed. After your meal is done, the server leaves a receipt on your table and you pay at the bar. When we left, we were excited for all those in line because they will get to dine soon but I definitely didn't envy them. Great restaurant option near Galeries Lafayette Haussmann. read more
