Yes, it was a Saturday, and yes, there were 7 of us. But the service was 100% attitude and several food orders were wrong. The only reason this place gets 3 stars is for the creative cocktails and the outdoor patio. "No tomato" had tomato all over it. "No cilantro" had cilantro sauce on it (and everything else). And the server gave us attitude when we sat, ordered drinks, ordered food, paid...it wasn't the best experience. To top it off, while it was a Saturday, the place was practically empty at 5:30 - it didn't fill up till much later in the night, so there was no real reason for the curt responses, dirty looks, slow food... The patio was great once the heaters were on, and it seemed like a better place to actually chat. Center Street Social is a small pub/restaurant right near where Long Hill Avenue drains into Center Street (which is an extension of Bridgeport Avenue near downtown Shelton). It's done up in all dark wood with a bar, restaurant-style seating for about 20, and an outdoor patio. It feels more like a bar than like a nice restaurant, so be aware if you're thinking of taking a date there. (If anyone is smoking on the patio, expect to smell it in the whole restaurant.) There are several big-screen TVs typically tuned to sports. The food is pretty much "soup and sandwiches" with a few appetizers thrown in labeled as "Smalls". Everything is very tasty and well-presented. Portions are on the small side for the prices, but I can't complain about the quality. There is a large drinks menu. The staff is friendly, but clearly still learning the ropes. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want - they will happily get it for you - but they may not figure it out on their own. A nice touch is a large bottle of ice water left on the table for everyone to serve themselves from. Overall, recommended. I don't see myself being there every week, but I'll be stopping by from time to time. read more

Could have been better, Saturday at 2:00 service was poor. Plenty of servers and 2 hostesses but the bar was poorly manned inside and out. We saw 3 different couples lacking service and begging for some one to help them. The menu we were given was minimal at BEST. It was more like a brunch all day menu and was lackluster at best. I don't frequent Shelton. However, this is a cool place for happy hour. Parking is a real pain, as there is no lot available. I just parked in the Wells Fargo around the corner and hoped for the best. Turned out okay that time. I think if you drive around enough, you'll see something available. We ordered at the bar and then got a table to order food and more drinks. Our server was friendly. My margarita was decent and the nachos we shared were delicious. I'd come again. I went for Sunday brunch with friends. Service was just ok. It's a bar trying to make breakfast once a week Drinks - great selection of spirits,awesome bloody Mary's and adult lemonades. Waffles w/bananas foster- alcohol was not completely cooked out and I can taste it. Home fries- yuk, I think they were frozen. Coffee was cold and really wouldn't be any good even if hot. This place needs to get their shit together! Our table of 5 ordered all at the same time. One persons food never came. When we brought it to the waitresses attention it came out another 20 mins later. This is not the first time we've been here where they messed up orders or forgot things we've asked for, things as simple as water. Only here for the bottomless mimosas!!! In addition as we sit here and finally eat. A patron spilled their drink on their friend. The bus boy book the broken glass away and the hostess brought napkins. I went here for brunch with friends and it was awesome! Great ambience and outdoor seating with a cute bar. I had the banana foster Belgium waffles and they were to die for. The homefries are great as well. They also offer bottomless mimosas for $15. I ordered a peach Bellini and it was amazing. Tips: it opens at 1030 and gets packed quickly! I went for happy hour yesterday and had a good time. The inside atmosphere was nice. Clean and good age range of customers. Apparently if you go on weekends it gets very crowded. They have good specials like "$11 for burger and brew" for lunch and brunch specials with bottomless drinks for $15. Staff weren't very professional. They were perfectly nice but no one had any idea what recommendations to make and were unfamiliar with menu items. Standing around in one group watching the game. I ordered drinks that were very good and two entrees that I split with a friend. Both were awesome. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and the Philly cheesesteak egg rolls. I totally recommend. Came in at 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon to grab some lunch and a cocktail. Sat at the bar and overheard a disgruntled customer complaining about his undercooked burger. The bartender was attentive and friendly and prices are reasonable (for drinks). Asked for menu, but was disappointed to see mainly brunch items. Unless you want a salad, brunch was your choice. As a vegetarian, I wasn't left with many options. Needles to say, we did not eat here. It is a beautiful spring day so we carried out drinks to the outdoor patio. Ambience is amazing but there seems to be a disconnect in service. Lots of employees but slow service. For such a cute establishment, I surely hope they pull it together and make it work. read more

I saw a post on Instagram that prompted me to want to come here. I saw a "grown up s'mores plate" that really caught my eye. After looking online I realized that item wasn't on the menu but decided to give it a shot anyways. As other reviewers have said, the parking is ATROCIOUS. It looked like the place would be mobbed by how many cars were parked along both sides of the road. We ended up parking in the Wells Fargo lot and walking. Not bad, but definitely annoying. We were expecting a wait, but to our surprise there wasn't that many people there for a Friday night. We were seated quickly. Then we waited. And waited, oh and waited some more. Nobody came for drinks, but we watched about 5 waiters walk by us, look, and keep walking. A table was seated after us, and got their drinks before us. I told my fiancé if they weren't there by a certain time we are leaving. They ended up finally coming, but blaming it on the hostess saying nobody told them we were there. They took our orders and waited. We got the nachos for the appetizers which were delicious. A great portion and very tasty. I got the BLT caprese sliders which were also amazing, whereas my fiancé got a burger. He said it was good but the bun was soggy on the bottom so he ended up eating it with a fork. To add, our bill was super expensive for 2 people. Almost $80 with tip for 2 drinks, apps and 2 dinners. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. Went to trivia last night with a group of friends. While the trivia was itself was fun, the host would BLAST music in between questions!! It was AWFUL!! The table next to us got up and left. Food portions equate to price. I had the Banana Bread French Toast topped with strawberries which was delish. Good place......if you're over the age of 21. They make a big stink about 19 and 20 year olds sitting in the restaurant after dark with those of legal drinking age, but will allow children screaming and running around regardless. They say they have a sign that states no one under 21 allowed without a guardian etc, but it's hidden in the dark under the main window. Extremely disappointing, since they have never enforced this rule the hundreds of times I've been here with friends under the age of 21 for dinner with some drinks. They trust 12 year olds over 20 year old female students living and working here! read more

I like going to this place because its local, I can get a decent meal/drink and the staff is friendly. The prices are reasonable and the food and drinks are creative but a 5/6 out of 10. You wont hate it here but you will not be gaga over it either. The decor is cool, lots of objects to look at and they have an outside patio with a bar and TV. To me this place is a 3 because the food (yet creative) is a good dinner quality and I think they are trying to be more gastro pub and they miss the mark. Although Center Street Social seems to be the hot spot in Shelton, I will NEVER return to this establishment again. I used to go here regularly, but ever since one particular Friday night I will never return. I went here on a Friday night and I understand that it gets busy there but there is no excuse for the way I was treated. When I went up to the bar to buy a beer, the bartender served two guys before me that showed up to the bar after me and when I tried to say something she said, "That's what happens when you don't open a tab." I thought this was ridiculous and I told her that I had cash to pay for my drink so when she walked away I thought for sure when she came back she would take my order. But instead, when she returned she asked the guy behind me what he wanted to drink. Being a little mad and annoyed I walked away and tried to go to a different part of the bar to ask another bartender for a drink. She followed to where I was and started to whisper to the other bartenders about me. I know this because they were all looking at me as she talked to them. Because I was so confused I am sure that it was showing on my face and bartender proceeded to say, "You can leave if you're gonna be a b**ch!!" I was so shocked and upset so I went outside to get some fresh air and then when I decided to go back inside the bouncer said to me, "You can't go back inside. You've been cut off." This shocked me even more. I had only had one beer before this all happened so there was no way I was in any way intoxicated. So basically the bartender refused me service, called me a b**ch, and then kicked me out for absolutely no reason. I think its safe to say I'll never be returning. Ordered food to go with friends tonight for a quiet dinner at their house. They got food that was ok, I on the other hand ordered Poutine (get excited to see that on menus). Want to talk about inedible? And yes I looked his name up because he was that horrible of a "server" and downright disrepectful. In the business of hospitality customers/guests are supposed to be treated with respect and the best care possible. Not talked down to, muttered snide comments at and then sent off with an overly obnoxious statement, yelled from the otherside of the room! Regardless of the scenario, a host/server/bartender is to ALWAYS maintain the coolest calm and respectful air towards their guest. And in my little scenario I upheld the respect Mr. Matt here lacks completely and gave no reason to be treated with such shitty service. Here goes: I walk into the bar with a couple friends, and decide to order a classic martini (gin& dry vermouth). The bartender a sweet lady with nothing but smiles proceeds to pour the ingredients into a shaker and then shake the crap out of my martini, pour it into a glass and serve it to me. The bartender was fine and dandy minus the fact that the Martini, one of the most classic cocktails of all time is NEVER to be shaken but is to always be stirred unless asked otherwise (forget about James bond). There are multiple reasons for this, the main ones being; shaking a martini over dilutes it, leaves chips of ice floating on the top of the drink, and actually distorts whats supposed to be a smooth gin drink because when shaking, the alcohol smashes back and forth and with no mixer/modifier in with it and all the extra air, actually risks bruising the alcohol and ruining its taste. Now before I start sounding like a pretentious ass myself let me say that I accepted the drink with a thankyou and tip for the bartender (it was busy and I was not going to ask her about the shaken martini infront of customers because that could reflect badly on her as a bartender and the business itself which I did not want to do!) However I did want to inquire about the shaken martini for the reason that someone else may go in wanting a real martini, watch it get shaken and not take it so lightly! So now we can cue in Matthew Brisch to ruin the day! Because as I stated above I didnt want to bring up any sort of complaints infront of other customers, while outside (my friends were smoking) Mr. Matt who I had also seen inside and appeared to be potentially heading the operation, walks over to check on us. This seems the best time for me to bring up my inquiry because 1) no one else is outside 2) he seemed like a main bartender 3) he didnt serve me the drink so by no means would I be offending him So now finally the disrespect: When asked how things were I politely and truthfully told him that "Everything was fine, but that I had ordered a classic martini, noticed that the lady had shaken it instead of stirring and was wondering if thats how everyone at Center Street Social was to make their martinis?" Hes responded with telling me that martinis are shaken unless asked for them stirred. This made me inquire in the reasoning considering the dilution ratio (which alters a drink completely) At this time my friend quipped (which i wouldn't have done because most bartenders think its a joke) "she went to bartending school" Mind you this "school" i went to was a 7 week, 100 hour course that went into how every kind of alcohol is made between the mashbill percentage to the process and exctr. That also included trips to brewery/winery to see first hand how things were done. And since graduating that school ive been bartending at a spot in Westport that goes into the molecular side of mixology and beyond. But I wasnt going to bring any of this up cause it shouldnt matter. I was a polite customer asking a proper question nicely! So Matt in response to my friends statement mutters under his breath "Yeah but she hasnt even been behind a bar yet" To which I asked "Sorry what was that? He then cowardly and rudely said "Oh nothing" So I told him "I actually work behind a bar" He snickered and in the most mocking tone says "Oh yeah what bar is that?" I briefly respond that I work at a bar in Westport. So he then says again ever so mocking and rudely "You can pretty much forget everything you think you know from bartending school" and then laughs at me. So I nicely responded that "The knowlege I gained I continually use at the place I bartend but I thank you for your opinion" To which he proceeded to snicker, tell me some more how I know nothing and walk away. So then as we finish our drinks, say goodbye and start to leave, Matt yells from the otherside of the outside bar again in the most mocking tone "Yeah bye keep stirring your martinis ha!" My wife and I stopped in here for some lunch when we were in the area. It was a warm late spring afternoon and the patio was packed, so we took a seat inside. The inside feels very hip, with lots of unfinished wood and exposed brick. We ordered the steak bomb, and the chicken and waffles. The service was OK and the food was fine, but not very memorable. Dry, missing most of the toppings that were asked for, the bread is clearly old and stale, and the sandwich was smaller than a 6" from Subway. This is a $13 sandwich I'm talking about. Named the "Steak BOMB". It's pathetic. I called and expressed all of this frustration and to their credit the bartender (Sarah) was very apologetic and did what she could to try and make it right. But when you have 30 mins for lunch going back to get another disgusting sandwich isn't the solution. Extremely disappointed. I'll never be back. The brunch drinks specials are my favorite about this place, $15.00 bottomless Mimosa, Bellini, or Bloody Mary! And you can't go wrong with the "breakfast shots" (check out the brunch menu). The food has been good as well, we've had both breakfast and lunch items and haven't had a bad meal. Most recently the hubby got a steak and eggs platter and I had a lobster roll. I had to update my original four star review because every time I head to this place the service and atmosphere continues to get worse and worse. This is an absolute shame as this place was a gem when it first opened. There's a certain head bartender (not naming any names) who seems to forget her tables all the time. We say outside yesterday and ordered two margheritas. 15 minutes later I asked a runner (who were wonderful by the way) to get our waitress. She came back with two HORRIBLY watered down drinks and then had the nerve to ask "do you guys need more time before ordering?" I laughed and then we ordered. I then asked her for a second drink. The food came out very fast and of course by the time we we're completely finished with dinner, our second round of drinks conveniently appeared. She was awful. It was the same bartender at a recent wing festival who also posed a lot of attitude as well.... It's too bad, the exterior decor of this place is beautiful, but once inside the service has a lot to be desired. The owner needs to rethink his approach id say! A local place with bar and dinner service. I had the Center Street Mussels. The mussels were nice and the cream sauce that came with it was quite nicely. It also came with crostini. There was no vegetables though so one should order a side salad. A person in my party ordered the tomato basil soup which, instead of croutons, had little grilled cheese sandwiches as croutons. The portion size for that soup is huge. They have Hartford Better Beer Co on tap. It was good to try a local brewery. The noise level at the restaurant was quite high on a Thursday night. The service was a little spotty since one of the people at out table didn't get utensils or napkin. Overall, the food was quite good but one may choose to go to another place if a quieter setting is desired. read more
