(Last visited 8/26/2021.) Returning from Philadelphia on a work trip and I've always heard good things about Center Street Social, so it only makes sense to stop by here on the way home! So here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on Center Street in downtown Shelton is this gem. I couldn't tell if there was a private parking lot, but I do think there may have been a small on on the side of the restaurant. We parked on the street and it wasn't a big deal. Once inside this place is very rustic, tavern-esque and I liked it. There were high ceilings and the bar is to your left once you walk in. There are seats at the bar rail and on the right side of the restaurant are lots of tables and an exposed brick wall. Then there's a 3rd side which is considered the outdoor section! There is also a bar outdoor section complete with its own bar and a lot more tables out there. Service: Emily took excellent care of us and she was awesome. It seemed as if she was running the entire restaurant by herself except for pouring drinks. She was so sweet, talkative, funny and had an awesome personality. We appreciated her. Food: So I had the chance to try 4 of their wing flavors. Let's begin. Cajun Butter = I consider this wing to be a dry rub of sorts. I mean, it's a wing, with butter on it then sprinkled with Cajun seasoning. Exactly how I like it. These were very, very good. Wasabi Ranch = Probably the best looking wing on my tray and it tasted as good as it looked. The wasabi was powerful, but not head-opening, nose-clearing powerful. Lol. The ranch was present, but not over-powering. Buffalo = Good strong smell and strong flavor. It punches you right in the mouth. Maple Buffalo = This was an odd flavor for me. Both the maple flavors and buffalo flavors are strong so in my opinion, they didn't work very well together. They overpowered each other and didn't blend very well. The wings were a little on the smaller side, but that's okay because we came on a special night, which I'll go over in the next section. Value: So on Thursdays the restaurant offer $0.75 wings with a minimum order of 6 per flavor. So the wings are a bit smaller, but it just means you can eat more and try more flavors! In conclusion, I loved this place and would really like to make my way back down here to try out some more flavors! read more

Came with friends because we heard the food was good! The Mac and cheese was incredible, some of the best that Shelton might have to be honest. Pretzel, tacos, fishbowl, and cocktails were all good too. This is definitely a place if you like to party, with karaoke on Tuesday nights and brunch with djs on Sunday. When we walked in, we did catch the smell of weed as well.. but the food more than made up for the atmosphere. Friendly staff too. read more

Awful service, half of the servers weren't wearing their masks properly, and none of the servers had gloves on. I watched a bartender make a caffe of mimosas without his mask on at all. I went with a group of friends for Sunday brunch and I was appalled at the service. I've heard bad things about their service but wanted to give them a shot since they do have some unique menu options. We made a reservation and sat in the outdoor seating area, which was half inside/half outdoors due to the walls. Tables were about 6 feet apart and there was one heating lamp. We ordered drinks and food together. They do bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary's for $16. You get 1.5 hours for your reservation. One single mimosa was $8. Our drinks took 20 min to arrive and some people had gotten their food before getting their drinks. All of the food was brought out separately; between when the first plate was brought out and the last was another 15 min. Some plates were piping hot while others were lukewarm or room temp. I had the Cobb salad with chicken was good. A couple girls had the biscuit slider special and said there was too much onion on each. The portions were average sized and most entrees were between $10-15. Overall, I was appalled by their covid policies and ability to reenforce it with their staff. This is apparently my 4th review attempt here and the problems are consistent. What can I say about the worst bar in CT?! Well here we go.... I used to be a regular coming here every Thursday for wing night because the great staff who took care of us and the wing cook was the best. They are unfortunately under new ownership without those staff members and it has gone downhill drastically. In the heart of downtown Shelton, this bar will be my last choice, every time. Today they were doing construction inside the bar using loud power tools while we were trying to enjoy our drinks and conversation. They were installing new TVs on the walls so the current TVs were off the whole time. The girl working took a while to actually take our orders for food and drinks and didn't write any food item down. She then came back 15 minutes later to ask again what we ordered. We finally got our food after an hour of waiting. The owners family came in after us, ordered food, and received It before us. We ordered wings for wing night. 4/6 of the items were wrong. The pub mustard wings were supposed to be tossed in sauce but they gave us sauce on the side. My friend's blue cheese was green and yellow and looked like it was going to kill him. My other friend ordered jack'd up Teriyaki, but when all of our wings arrived they THEN told him they didn't make those anymore, after waiting an hour for wings. The 4th issue was my friend ordered garlic parm fries when we first ordered and the second bartender told us she never even put the order in. At one point I saw one of the staff pouring a new drink option for the owner to try. He dropped the plastic Christmas hat on the gross floor, picked it up, and put it directly in the drink. This breaks so many sanitation laws. That being said, the owner family had their 4 year old Daughter walk behind the bar to make a drink (non alcoholic thank god), but this is still a huge violation too. For being the only customers other than the owners family this was the worst customer service ever. Also I wonder if they noticed the piece of wood hanging from the side of the 85" tv that looks like it's about to fall off and hurt someone. We will never Be back!! I was really impressed by the diversity of this crowd and the fantastic employees that work here . It's pretty nice inside and a great date night indeed . Hubby & I have been couped up so long in the house we saw their posts on IG of their food, so we drove 40 minutes to check them out. The bartenders are quick and so is the food . We decided to share a Fish Bowl drink (20.00) The Miami Vice (delicious) Malibu, blue chair coconut, pineapple juice, strawberry puree, sprite and Gummy Bears(don't forget to eat after) ..... Food : Giant Pretzel ....comes with 2 dips Pretty good yet filling so order alone... Wings = sweet and spicy... pretty good Tacos 2.00 on Tuesdays...ordered 2 chicken & two fish tacos absolutely delish and filling ...two pork sliders as well (fantastic) read more

Just went in for drinks tonight on a Friday night a little after 6 tonight, not crowded at all. We sat at the bar. The bartenders were both super friendly and welcoming. There were a few beers on draft which was nice. I ordered a cocktail which was $6 for happy hour (any of them) and I love that happy hour ends at 7! Gives you so much more time to make it there after a long day of work. I got the pistachio martini which sounds strange but was so freaking tasty, and my boyfriend got a bad sons beer. Looks like they have a lot of specials throughout the week which is cool. They also had a onesie party planned for Friday night with a few special shots on the menu which is fun, gummy bear shots and cookies and cream shots. I plan on coming back to try some of their food! My husband and I visited this place on Friday, and we had an amazing time! The bartender Dakota was amazing! Her drinks and customer service was phenomenal. If you live in the Shelton/Derby area this is a place that you must try! Even if you don't live in this area, it's worth the drive. I love it here. read more

Talk about mimosas!!! Center street features a very welcoming and lively brunch on Sunday's from 11-3p. While it wasn't my first time here, I was extremely impressed with the vibe and overall change in atmosphere at CS! My food was amazing and my server/bartender Chey is the reason I will now be coming back for this brunch over and over again. She was personable, friendly, and knowledgeable. She singlehandedly kept the very packed bar hydrated and fed! I only am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the music got a little loud towards the end where it was hard to hear others in my party. I've been to Center Street a few times and the place is good. However, last night when I went, I immediately sat down and was instantly stung by a wasp that must have been on the seat I was sitting at. I don't blame this restaurant for a wasp being in there (because it is summer, of course). However, my friend got stung by a wasp there not too long ago! I'm wondering if they may have a nest somewhere outside and they are coming in? Anyways, the service was very slow and my friends and I were the only ones inside needing to be served which was frustrating at times. Our waitress was not very friendly but the other staff was. The food was very good and tasty. I would come back again, hopefully their bee problem gets fixed! read more

On a nice day we decided to take a Sunday drive and head to a local winery; we decided to Yelp for lunch and found this fun place! Friendly folk from the time we walked in and excellent attentive service. I like bloody mary's and there mix is top notch!. I ordered the breakfast taco's which were warm and tasty - though a bit more chorizo would have been nice to add a little punch. My wife loved her spinach omelet and commented the coffee was good ( translated strong!). Nice big open bar that evens offers outside seating! We have friends that live in town - we will plan to meet them there - as it has a nice beer selection on tap! I admit this is more of a 3.5 kind of place - but I rounded up due to the friendly staff. read more

Center Street social is within eyeshot shot of my apartment. This is the second time I've been to this establishment, the first time was over two years ago. Now I remember why... I came in for lunch on a Monday, because the restaurant is involved with one of my dining rewards programs and I thought I would give it another try, when I arrived, there was no one else in the restaurant, I sat at the bar, where the service was great! I ordered a beer from one of the many that are on tap, along with boneless wings and the maple buffalo sauce to start. I was informed when I ordered that there was no more maple buffalo sauce, and it was suggested that I try the Jack Daniels teriyaki sauce, which I did. Right after I ordered, the bartender supplied me with napkins and utensils so I could eat my "boneless" wings when they came out. The suggested substitute sauce was delicious, but it came out on bone in wings! (I didn't feel like getting all sticky hence boneless.) Since the bartender supplied me with utensils, I figured it was an error in the kitchen. When the bone in wings showed up, I was very hungry and I said don't worry about it I'll eat these and get covered in sauce (that was very sticky.) The wings were delicious! Imagine my surprise when I got my bill at the end of my meal, and saw that the bartender put in an order for regular wings! Issue number one. Let's continue, after my bone in wings, I ordered a half order of the nachos with beef, one of the descriptions of this plate of nachos was; covered in an in-house, "secret" cheese sauce that they use. Imagine my surprise when the nachos came out, with globs of shredded cheese, that, I might add, wasn't even melted! Yes, the plate of nachos were served cold. Issue number two. There was a good size plate of the nachos, and when I got to the bottom of the plate is when I found, a small amount of the "secret cheese sauce." Once I had had enough of the nachos, I opted to order the fisherman's platter. Included in the fisherman's platter is a cod fillet, clam strips, and fried shrimp all in batter along with fries. In the description of the fisherman's platter, included is coleslaw and tartar sauce. When the bartender delivered my fisherman's platter, (there was plenty of food), it looked delicious, however she informed me that they have no tartar sauce and asked if I would like any other sauces. How do you eat seafood with no tartar sauce? When I stated I wish I was informed of this when I placed the order, I said just box it up, I'll get my check, and I'll bring it home (since I knew I had tartar sauce in my refrigerator). Once I got home, I started to enjoy the fisherman's platter, the shrimp were delicious the fries were OK, the clam strips, well, they were clam strips! When I dug into my cod fillet, which I might add was rather large, I got 2 bites into the fillet, and found it's not cooked through and the fish is still pink in the middle. Issue number 3! Needless to say, I won't be hurrying back to CSS. An $81 lunch (3 beers and tip included), that I hope doesn't come back to haunt me after eating undercooked fish! read more

I used to love Center Street Social. Now, all of a sudden, they do not allow "open-toed shoes" there. WTF? I'd gone there for YEARS, nearly always wearing flip-flops and they did not care. Now, all of a a sudden, after all the garbage that's gone on there over the years, THAT is their big concern. Seriously? Screw that! I will NEVER go back there EVER again. Also their music selection has ALWAYS been terrible on the weekends. But I put up with that to get some drinks and food (which was never all that great) and meet people. NEVER AGAIN. Me and my sister and friend went there we only had one drink and didn't drink it all...half an hour later we did not feel like ourselves and couldn't stand straight....my sister couldn't keep her eyes open..it makes no sense we didn't drink much...i was sick and threw up and next day all i wanted to do was sleep...i thought it was just us but we met other girls at bar. It was a chill Friday night. I think their scorpion bowls are worth the price. I had the jolly rancher..and told them to go light on the strawberry syrup. I like sweet drinks but I don't want to be drinking molasses. If you do not like bananas do not get the bananas martini (under the rum section) it's like drinking a banana split. It was gross. Drinkable, but gross--unless you love bananas. I'm not particular to the cream martinis, but I tried the white chocolate one. It was ok. I would prefer to spend money on two scorpion bowls in the future. Food: my friend loves their steak and cheese egg roll. I tried it for the first time and it was honestly hot and delicious. The BBQ wings were wings. I wouldn't characterize them As the best wings in the world but, good bar wings. The nachos were ok, I can see myself not ordering them again, or ordering them as the only meal. It was a lot and the guac was eh. Decent bar food is where I'd leave that thought. Walking in on Friday night there are bouncers who check ID. They're chill. You can sit where you'd like, they're not picky about it. Cleanliness: this is the lost star. Tables were sticky even after being cleaned. It made sense bc the martinis were over flowing and they cleaned up with a dry towel. Slightly annoyed but did not ruin my night. The bathroom was gross. It was painted nice etc, but just wet, and toilet paper everywhere and spit. -could just be the nasty drunk people that rolled through there before me though. Recently tried this place for the first time last weekend on Saturday for their brunch. I wasn't exactly pleased but also wasn't displeased. First of all, I love how long they serve brunch For! It's very convenient for us late sleepers. I decided to sit outside even though it was kind of a warm day............ and I'm so happy that I did! Their outdoor patio is so visually appealing. While the inside was super duper busy no one sat outside and I didn't mind the seclusion (it was very peaceful). They have a few games that you can play with while you wait for your food......*fun*. Our server and a few other people who checked on us were super attentive, friendly, and informative. They also have many brunch options which is nice. I wasn't very impressed with the food. I got the chicken and waffles and it was kind of bland. The chicken wasn't seasoned and it didn't taste like much. Waffles were good but, did not seem too fresh. Overall, I was niether pleased nor was I displeased. It could have just used some improvements. Thankfully I got Cajun fries and that helped save me from a rather bland meal. Now let's get to the part where I was left very confused......... their eggs Benedict. When one looks up an eggs Benedict recipe no matter how plain the recipe is they always have one key ingredient...... Canadian bacon....... right? I guess not. Their version didn't offer Canadian bacon. Not even as an extra side for $2.00 or whatever they charged for the ham my boyfriend picked instead. The eggs Benedict isn't offered with a meat such as Canadian bacon, ham,or whatever...... They make you pay extra for it. That was a little odd to me. Overall, the eggs benny wasn't great but, that's my boyfriend's favorite breakfast dish so he thought he would give it a try. Unfortunately........ I made the mistake of getting a strawberry mimosa pitcher. It was very very sweet. I should have stuck with original but I thought it would be closer to a fresh strawberry taste rather than a jolly rancher sweet concoction. Meet my girlfriends for Sunday brunch. This place was busy and very loud. 1st order - steak n cheese egg roll, no problem came out as ordered. 2nd order - spinach eggs benedict, Fresh spinach just piled on top, not cooked maybe this place does it this way, both poached eggs were over cooked, pretty much hard boil. 3rd order - chicken quesadillas and side of fries. 4th order - Croissantwich with side of fruit. (Came out with potatoes, said we don't serve fruit in the side. Was charged for it, until it was removed off the bill) the sever said it's ok with fruit. 2 crafts of champagne mimosa Server comes back, sorry we can't do quesadillas, too much going on in the kitchen and can't prep for it until afternoon, well it was noon but she picked different item. Great local bar. Tonight is two dollar tacos and sliders along with two dollar beers. Dinner and a drink for under ten dollars. The cool thing is they are not finger tacos lol like some other places in the area. They are hot and tasty. Sarrah the bartender rocks the bar and everyone had smiles on their faces. Our server recommended I write a review, as the owners don't listen to them... maybe because they can't hear over the all the thump thump music... I'm going to start by saying I'm a pain when it comes to eating... I live GF/DF and rely on my wits and waitstaff when in unfamiliar territory. When I was thinking of where to take my wife on our 11th anniversary, I thought of CSS. It's trendy and I've heard great things about the one in Stamford. When we got there, we were greeted by friendly waitstaff and told to sit anywhere. The seasonal Pump-tini was ordered by the wife and I went with my standard Old Fashioned when enjoying speak-easy-adjacent surroundings. The Pump-tini was the only thing good... my wife said it tasted like boozy eggnog and that's OK by me. The Old Fashioned was pretty bad... muddled orange slices (plural), a maraschino cherry (ice cream sundae kind), and I think they ran out of bitters. THE WORST OLD FASHIONED... I was also kindly informed that the only things GF on the menu were a wing, with maybe one or two sauces, and maybe one or two other things... and I was told up front that the kitchen doesn't offer much in the way of dietary restrictions... So we finished our drinks and went elsewhere. I hope the owners understand the world is becoming more and more aware of their diet... Have been here a couple times, tried to go to brunch today, walked in as they don't take reservations for under 4 people which is absurd in covid times (there were 3 of us) they said they had no tables available and gave us NO options basically told us to leave...a restaurant that values their customers would have given us another option like coming back in an hour, waiting on the patio with a drink, etc. NO they just said "sorry we don't have anything" so unprofessional and ridiculous. This place looks cooler than it really is. I wanted to like this place because I've heard good things about it, but the two times I have been there was disappointing. The first time I ordered an omelette, it was one of the worst omelettes I've ever had, and couldn't even finish it. It was supposed to have vegetables inside but was 90% cheese and tomato, the inside was super watery from the tomato, and it was just gross. The 2nd time I went was for $2 taco Tuesday during happy hour, which does have good drink prices. The food was again disappointing. I ordered chips and salsa. The chips were stale, and the salsa wasn't anything special. I then got a pulled pork slider, and chorizo taco. The pulled pork slider was dry and lacked flavor, and the chorizo taco was ok. Bartenders pouring drinks for themselves, down each other's mouth straight from the spout and for their friends that pull up. People from the street waking into the kitchen. I was in shock...so I peeked in the kitchen. Young kid on his phone watching food on a warmer. The "bartenders" don't know how to mix a drink other than a margarita and that drink had too much purée. They make up prices as they go. Margarita was $10 for someone else than $13 for me. I got a receipt for that NASTY food with no price breakdown. I'll pass on this spot. First of all, I'm disappointed in this place. Great food but what's the point if the serve is horrible. I don't recommend this place to anyone, Somewhere else is ten times better. Dunkin' Donuts gives better customer service than this stupid joint. They kicked my daughter out because she wasn't of over 21, she's 19 but she's with her guardian sister. I was out of the country so I left my eldest daughter in charge of my youngest and I later receive a phone call from my daughter crying telling me she was embarrassed on how they treated her. They told her she needed to leave and give the table to others. No restaurant should treat someone like this. Save your money go somewhere else. read more

Yes, it was a Saturday, and yes, there were 7 of us. But the service was 100% attitude and several food orders were wrong. The only reason this place gets 3 stars is for the creative cocktails and the outdoor patio. "No tomato" had tomato all over it. "No cilantro" had cilantro sauce on it (and everything else). And the server gave us attitude when we sat, ordered drinks, ordered food, paid...it wasn't the best experience. To top it off, while it was a Saturday, the place was practically empty at 5:30 - it didn't fill up till much later in the night, so there was no real reason for the curt responses, dirty looks, slow food... The patio was great once the heaters were on, and it seemed like a better place to actually chat. The decor is cool, and they have an outdoor patio with a bar and tv, and also some fun games like giant jenga, connect four, and darts. a good beer selection, giant fishbowls, and good mixed drinks. the menu ranges from small plates, to salads, to tacos. weekend brunch is always popular with bottomless mimosas and bloody mary's. Center Street Social is a small pub/restaurant right near where Long Hill Avenue drains into Center Street (which is an extension of Bridgeport Avenue near downtown Shelton). It's done up in all dark wood with a bar, restaurant-style seating for about 20, and an outdoor patio. It feels more like a bar than like a nice restaurant, so be aware if you're thinking of taking a date there. (If anyone is smoking on the patio, expect to smell it in the whole restaurant.) There are several big-screen TVs typically tuned to sports. The food is pretty much "soup and sandwiches" with a few appetizers thrown in labeled as "Smalls". Everything is very tasty and well-presented. Portions are on the small side for the prices, but I can't complain about the quality. There is a large drinks menu. The staff is friendly, but clearly still learning the ropes. Don't be afraid to ask for what you want - they will happily get it for you - but they may not figure it out on their own. A nice touch is a large bottle of ice water left on the table for everyone to serve themselves from. Overall, recommended. I don't see myself being there every week, but I'll be stopping by from time to time. read more
