I came here for dinner with friends and we had a good time. The interior of the space is big and there's lots of bar, booth, and table seating for groups of different sizes. Service was good and quick, but one of our orders was forgotten about so that was a bit disappointing. We ordered their pierogi, wings, onion soup, lobster roll, and a burger. Everything was actually very good. The pierogis were flavorful and comforting. The french onion soup was perfect for the cold weather. Wings were also pretty standard and good. We've only ever had takeout from the Sitting Duck, and it's super easy to order online! The wait time has been great, and picking up and checking out is a breeze. Once you place your order, they'll give you a ready time. When you get to the restaurant, head straight to the back where the food is bagged and ready for payment. The staff is always friendly, and it's always packed, both at the tables and at the bar. Sometimes, there's a line waiting to be seated. No Reservations :(. Our go-to dish is the duck wings--they're way better than chicken! They're bigger and have a richer flavor. The decor is warm in a dark wood kind of way. Noise level is average. Sitting Duck Tavern is one of my favorites in Trumbull, CT. Their food and service has been consistent ever since they have opened! I went there last week with my friend. I ordered Salmon Piccata and my friend ordered Tavern Cod. Me and my friend agreed that the dishes were very tasty, well prepared and their presentation was on point. We had lot of catching up to do and we were not rushed. From start to finish it was amazing. A must try if you haven't been there yet! They have plenty of seating. We randomly chose the Sitting Duck Tavern for supper on our way down to New Jersey, and I'm so glad we did. The decor is like a modern/rustic tavern mix with tables and booths on the edges and a bar with TVs in the middle. Our server was Elliot. Absolutely spectacular guy! Friendly, professional, got our order spot on, was great with my kid! Highly recommend him if you're here. (He apparently doesn't normally work on Tuesdays, though.) We had the Bang Bang Chicken appetizer. Not as spicy as expected, but the chicken was tender and flavorful. We ate it too quickly for me to take a pic. I ordered one of the Draft beers: Spring House Gunther...not quite local. Our entrees were the Goat Cheese Salad, added steak tips. Absolutely delicious. My partner had the Mexicali Bowl with blackened chicken. He said it was good. My kiddo got the Kids Burger with fries from the "Duckling Menu". Our second visit to the Sitting Duck. Friendly service, great cocktails and the food is always good. Some people complain the service is slow, I disagree, it's perfect cause who wants to be rushed out. They give the appropriate attention and when you're ready say the word and they'll take care of you. The bar is the center of the restaurant so it's not a quiet place, but you can still have a conversation and not feel like you're screaming. It's close to Sacred Heart which is great for families visiting their kiddos who want to take them to lunch or dinner nearby. They don't take reservations but if you call 15 minutes before wanting to be seated they'll put your name down. read more

Went to have a quick bite at the Trumbull location and ordered the nachos as a starter. This was hands down the worst nachos I ever had. The chips were covered in a watery yellow and white sauce, no cheese texture or taste. I let the server know these were not good. He suggested we ask for cheddar cheese next time. I've lived in Trumbull for almost a decade now and Sitting Duck was a great place to take the family for a quick bite or just to hang with your buddies to watch a game. Fast Forward to present day and my last experience was truly awful. They ran out of Guinness and the Asst. Manager's father was walking around like he owned the place kicking people out as they were waiting for their checks and to finish a pint. I felt bad for the bartender as he was just trying to make some money. The atmosphere there has gone down drastically and the menu is bleak. They need to learn to change the menu based on the seasons. The da Silva brothers have proven that they have lost perspective in running this operation. I do not recommend going there to watch a game or to eat unless you like bland, tasteless entrees. Lastly, TV situation is below average. read more

Food quality / price (value) rating 9. The atmosphere is eclectic pub. I had the steak tips with shoestring fries. A very nice sized portion (about 8 ounces) of high quality, well trimmed top sirloin steak, cooked as ordered with a perfect char. The "48 hour marinade" proved to be excellent. The fries were cooked "extra well done" as requested, something a lot of other restaurants seem unable to accomplish. I also had a Bloody Mary that was excellent, which generously included three large olives and three pieces of celery! The wife had the Salmon Piccata with sun dried tomatoes and capers. A very nice sized portion of salmon, and a wonderful and generous serving of Piccata sauce. She stayed that her entrer was also excellent. The service was very good - friendly and attentive. The restaurant is small, probably seats about 40, plus a bar that seats about 12. There was a boisterous, local crowd mix of blue collar and white collar patrons the night we were there, so laughing loudly was expected. Although this was our first visit to this restaurant, we'll certainly be back, and I look forward to going to their other two restaurants of the same name! read more

We haven't been here in years and we live in Trumbull. When The Sitting Duck first opened, they were great. Always crowded and a fantastic menu. As time has gone on, sadly it's not the same great find anymore. They can make a burger to order, salads are good - but that's unfortunately where it ends. Ordered their staple menu classic of beef tips with mashed potatoes. They are made "medium-rare," but in the past used to make them cooked to order if you wanted them cooked more. I ordered them "medium" and the waitress said they are cooked "medium-rare" or can be cooked to "well-done." Nothing in-between. That's ridiculous. This wasn't the case in the past. For $23 for the plate, you should be cooking to order. There's no reason not to aside from laziness. When I persisted, the waiters said, she would inquire about "medium-well." You can see in the picture below how "well-done" my meat came out. My family ordered burgers, salads and a Kids Mac & Cheese and were happy. We returned the calamari appetizer. Tiny rings, tiny tentacles, and chewy. Overall - the place is okay - but nothing like it used to be. It's priced reasonably, so points for that. read more

Came here for the first time a month ago and it was so good! This is a great local bar and restaurant, but it is not huge. The food was tasty and the portions were perfect. Service was as quick as we expected and the booth we sat in was very comfortable as well! The bathrooms were clean and there is plenty of parking out front. Some very nice things but some food short comings ENTRANCE- they have a young person at the front nicely organizing tables etc. could benefit by providing a big smile greeting to customers. MENU - not an extensive menu. Actually more alcohol choices on the menu than you would expect. Clearly this is a pub and grub establishment with many beer options. Including local CT micro brewery's SERVICE- this is 5 star the bus and waitress were totally prompt, efficient, and engaging in conversation. APPETIZERS - the wings are a super plus and they have different varieties. They were moist Ann crispy on the outside. Really good choice. The Brussel sprouts on the other hand, not so good. They need to steam the sprouts before deep frying. This way they will be softer and won't need to be in deep fryer longer which tended to burn the outside. ENTREES- wife had the stir fry which was not super great. The rice noodles were good but what failed for the dish was the sauce really not great. The salmon dish on the other hand was good. Salmon was a tad over cooked but the mashed and spinach were excellent. VINO - tried the glass Cabernet which was decent for a third tier vineyard selection. It's a beer place more than wine but I've seen worse choices for sure. DESSERT- to full to indulge so let me know some day. PRICE - I cant say this is $$. They do a lot of takeout. And expect tips. They screwed up my order and forgot the bacon on my sandwich. I wanted my tip back. Recently I called in another order. Explained I wanted double bacon to make up for last time. No double bacon. The girl seemed to think she deserved a tip. While I would tend to tip, even in take out for zero service they should give me a refund for screwing up my order or at least make it right. Congratulations fools.
