Been by twice and tried a good variety of the menu. For the most part, I love the empanadas because of the dough. I especially love the spicy black bean filling. The rest of the savory fillings are hit or miss for me, but that's just personal preference. I haven't tried any of the desserts. The chimichurri and and the hot sauce are both made in-house, and they are amazing. Wish they would give more sauce though. There's a sign that says 1 sauce for every 2 empanadas. Last time, I got 5 empanadas and they gave me 2 chimichurris and 1 hot sauce. I thought it was going to be 3 of each. I also tried 2 of their sandwiches. I gotta pass on those. It was very underwhelming. I had to add their chimichurri sauce to them to give them flavor, but the sandwiches don't come with it. Parking is a pain, so I suggest calling in your order and carpooling to pick it up so one person can circle the block if needed. I'll definitely be back again, but I wouldn't say this would make it into my regular takeout rotation. read more

Amazing!!! We love empanadas and have tried various locations from Chino to Burbank to NYC....all over. These are hands down the best! In SoCal We had the spicy asada, spinach, birria, and spicy black bean. We purchased more and will try those when we get home. We got to meet Tony, the owner. He was so humble and appreciative of our business. Highly recommend giving this place a try, we drove over 45 minutes for the experience and we will definitely be back. read more

Tried the al caballo sandwich and 4 different empanadas, everything was really delicious and fresh. Our favorite part of the experience has to be the service and attention to detail though. The to go boxes had friendly messages and the empanadas were helpfully labeled for us. Decided to try this spot yesterday at 12:30PM and I really enjoyed the empanadas. I chose the birria, spinach & cheese, and Nutella. The birria was really good with the consommé. The spinach and cheese I think was my favorite and I thought adding the chimichurri would be too much but it made it even better. The Nutella was good but I prefer the savory empanadas over the dessert. We dined in so there were about 6 booths. Stumbled upon this place after seeing a movie in Downtown Monrovia. It's just a short drive down Myrtle Ave (just south of the 210 freeway). Parking was a little tough to find, but there is a small alleyway to the side of the restaurant with a few spots. Empanadas are $3.50 each while twelve will run you $39, saving you about three bucks when ordering by the dozen. We've tried almost all the empanadas on their menu, and our top five are probably: 1. Chile Verde (this isn't on their regular menu but was available last time we checked) 2. Spinach & Cheese 3. Birria Queso 4. Breakfast (with chorizo) 5. Mushroom But really, you can't go wrong with any of them. The only ones we haven't tried are the pizza empanada and the soy chorizo empanada. Lord Empanada also serves a wide variety of sandwiches and a few specials. We haven't tried many of these items (we will on a future visit), but the Beef Stroganoff deserves some recognition. It is super luscious and creamy and chock full of noodles and braised beef. The stroganoff sauce also makes for a pretty good dipping sauce for any empanadas you might have, which is a good food hack because I almost always run out of the chimichurri that they normally provide for you. We talked to the owner, Ryan, and he's a super friendly guy. My wife and I have been a couple of times now, always ordering a tray of twelve empanadas to take home! We'll definitely be back to try more of their seasonal flavors and specials! read more

03/12/2022 Came here to try this place so I ordered Empanadas for $3.50 each. There's a sign showing 1 sauce per every two empanadas. I like what they did with this place. Interior is clean and after you order at the counter, they bring your order to your table. The order arrives with which empanadas you ordered written down just like in my photo. I have tried every empanada I can get my hands on in the US and Mexico and Lord Empanadas is still my favorite. The crust is expertly crafted - flakey, crunchy, chewy --- and not greasy. There's a wide range of fillings for you to choose from. I haven't had a bad one yet. The owner is really kind and helped make a custom chocolate mousse cake for my hubby's birthday. It wasn't all that pretty (which he had warned me about) but it's was so smooth and decadent. Generously filled with mousse on top of a thin layer rich chocolate cake. They used to make the cake with white chocolate mousse. If you get a chance to try the chocolate mousse cake, now you know who to thank when you fall in love with it! Update: went there again (probably visit #6) and it's still heavenly! The spinach and cheese empanada was fully stuffed and moist almost like a warm, creamy spinach dip. The mushroom and cheese empanada was also beautifully cooked, with savory sauteed garlic mushrooms. The real magic is the crust though. Wish I could eat these everyday. TLDR: Most worth empanadas I've ever had, so please give them a try! I ordered four different types of empanadas, and each came with its own sauce to dip the empanada in. I paid around ~$3.75 for each one which was fair pricing as their empanadas were a lot bigger than others that I've had. To top it off, the crust on all of them had a nice crunch and had enough a perfect amount of breading. It also seems that every order is made to order so they come out hot and fresh! Beef - a classic. The filling was perfect and the chimichurri sauce paired perfectly. Breakfast, Chorizo - I'm not a fan of breakfast-flavored items so this didn't appeal to me. However, the red salsa was flavorful on top. Birria - wow, I was so impressed. I dunked the empanada into the birria sauce and that was an explosion of flavors. The meat was tender as well! 10/10 for this. Apple Pie - I was hesitant about this one. However, the inside was pilled high with filling, and the dulce de leche sauce just made it all the better. Just beware of the parking situation! I suggest parking on the side of the block as it is a tight squeeze in the parking lot. Either way, Lord Empanada definitely brought the game!! The Boba Queen of the East meets Lord Empanada of the West. What started out as a popup and through word of mouth on social media, Lord Empanada was able to open their own place here in Monrovia. So here are the ones I tried: - Birria Queso (marinated beef & monterey jack) - Beef (potato, hardboiled egg, olive & raisin) - Chicken (potato & hardboiled egg) - Spinach & Cheese (mozzarella & parmesan) - Spicy Black Bean (sweet corn, red bell pepper & jalapeño) - Apple Pie (OMG!!! It's better than McDonald's) Four different sauces: - their famous chimichurri sauce (hella good) - consommé (best with the Birria) - hot sauce (good with all the empanadas) - dulce leche (apple or cheesecake) All their sauces take these empanadas to the next level. The chimichurri one was my fave. Rarely does the crust and filling are equal to each other but Lord Empanada put a lot of thought in their crust. Super flaky and able to hold the fillings, each bite had me wanting to slap myself. These babies are seriously in my opinion one of the best I've ever had. Doesn't even matter which ones you choose, they are all amazing. The Birria is really juicy. Before heading back to Jersey, I had to stop by one more time to bring some home with me. This time I got to meet the owner, Ryan. I can tell how passionate he is about what he serves. Each empanada is made to order. I wanted to get the mushroom but they ran out. I was super disappointed. But Ryan throws in a free Spinach and Cheese for me in place of the mushroom. As I take my last bite of one of the empanadas, I tried to savor every morsel. Was craving for empanadas the other day and saw Lord Empanadas in Monrovia. Decided to give it a try, it is a little pricey, $3.50 per piece, 1 dozen for $36. At first, I didn't see the price for 1 dozen, so I bought 8 empanadas which cost $36, I wished the lady at the cashier told me about the dozen special. I went back 2 days later to get 1 dozen, 3 beef, 3 chicken, 2 pizza, 2 sausage and 2 bacon. The reason I went back was because my wife and son wanted more, they loved it very much. The beef and chicken empanadas are very good, a great mixture of spices and flavor. Pizza is pretty normal which my son loved. The breakfast sausage and bacon are great too. The pastry they use is so flaky and light, you can tell they really know what they're doing. My favorite one from the savory is the spicy black bean, and the cheesecake from the sweet. Both the salsa and chimichurri are excellent compliments to all the savory ones. Service was excellent. First time having empanadas and they were so good I'm going back again tomorrow...and I live 50 miles away! Such a wide variety of flavors to choose from and something for everyone from vegetarians to meat-eaters. We ordered the soyrizo, spinach/cheese and mushroom flavors and they were all super delish. Crusts were flaky and perfect! The dipping sauces tasted unique and weren't like anything I'd ever had before, a perfect compliment to the empanadas. They offered a Pumpkin Spice empanada as their seasonal dessert flavor and it was soooo gewd I should've bought more! Can't wait to go back and try something new tomorrow. I've experienced many empanadas and meat pies from so many cultures in my lifetime. Looking back, I'm still searching for that perfect one but this one is great! It's not perfect, I think that there's a few things I'd like them to develop but they at least got a return customer. So all the empanadas from this place have the same pastry dough, if I'm not mistaken, but they all just have different fillings. I think they got the dough spot on, after baked, it's flaky, buttery, soft, just all the good textures. I've had empanadas from other places with a more crumbly and biscuit-like texture but this one is like a denser croissant, absolutely delicious. So my favorite is the mushroom empanada cause it's packed with flavor, I dunno what magic they put in it but yum, this one is a keeper. For me, I'm looking for a stronger flavor that highlights the particular filling, and this one sang to me. The rest of the fillings were good but not great, they didn't stand out in my mind. That dough and mushroom though, enough for me to give them the 5-star review. So the al-pastor wasn't memorable enough, it's lacking something that I can't quite explain. I love al-pastor tacos and burritos and when I get it from a taco stand, they slice it and then place it on the griddle that leads to this "kiss of the flame" taste. Maybe during their baking process, they lose that but I don't get that smoky-flavored goodness. The next thing are the carne asada, not bad but also missing something. I'm just not sold on it, although carne asada is not my usual pick of meat but a good carne asada has my mouth watering and going back for more. It needs that grill mark flavorful but yeah lacking. It came with a chimichurri sauce, it's been inconsistent, sometimes I get some with flavor and sometimes it's bland. I want the sauce to inspire the food, I really like sauces but yeah it didn't do that. The birria, better than the previous two meats mentioned, the flavor comes out more. It also comes with like a consume sauce but the sauce is bland. It felt like a palette cleanser or like a water-downed broth, I still drank it though but there's no contrast if you eat the birria with or without it. The flan, it was a little too eggy for me. I'm used to dense flan on the creamier side, and I didn't get that feel. Overall, I think if they developed the meats to have a fuller flavor and the sauces to have more richness, I'd be completely cracked out thinking about buying it all the time. The mushroom empanada has sorta that effect but the rest aren't home run hitters to my taste. Anyways, I still gave them 5-stars cause you'll definitely find that one empanada that talks to you from them. I've seen it in my co-workers, the look of a great satisfaction. Stopped by for a second visit. There was a few people in line but it went pretty quick. Forming the line is a bit awkward due to lack of space but it works out. Order two sandwiches Milenesa (beef) and the Matambre Ordered the birria and beef empanadas. The sandwiches were so good. The Milenesa was lightly breaded and the meat was nice and tender I've tried. The Matambre was pretty tasty too I only had a bite. Plus part of me feels like the fries have no business being so good but they are seasoned magnificently. The empanadas were awesome!
