If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! First and foremost, the empanadas are fantastic! By far the best! Secondly, a big shout out to Ryan Lopez. We most recently hosted our son's birthday party and ordered 60 empanadas. They were gone within 20 mins because it was such a big hit. We called Ryan and asked if he can expedite another 60 order, and within 30 mins, he delivered! This was also very close to their closing time! He is always so responsive and always takes care of us for any requests. We will continue to eat here not only our lunch/dinner, but for any catering needs. Highly recommend! read more

Food: Empanadas are very good and they have various types of meat and vegetarian options. The birria empañada came with consomé and was loaded with plenty of meat; the spinach and cheese was very flavorful and filling, the Al pastor was good but I couldn't taste the pineapple that's was advertised, and the mushroom empanada was loaded and flavorful for mushroom lovers. The empanadas were server with chimichurri, a spicy habanero type of chimichurri, and some alternative hot sauce. They also have a sandwiches and a gaucho burger. Each empanada was valued at $3.75 or $41 for a dozen (as of this review) Service: The team members were friendly and accommodating. You come to the counter, order your food, and take out or you can dine in. Service is relatively quick. Ambiance: The place feels like a small private home and the parking is very limited but we managed to find some street parking. The bathroom was located outside of the restaurant building itself and was porter potty size but was clean. The restaurant itself has a handful of booths and tables, a refrigerator with various drinks to purchase, and severs come by to deliver your food. I got a takeout box of 12 empanada here and wow, this place is definitely the lord of empanadas. They are crispy, flakey and don't have an oily taste at all. All the empanada were well balanced in flavor and each were unique in its own way. Everything was so darn good but my favorite two were the breakfast sausage and birria. I'm so glad I choose Lord Empanada to cater my event. I had to feed 30 people so I ordered 60 empanadas. Two each of full size was perfect. I made a salad as a side. I purchased: chicken, birria, pizza, spinach, and mushroom. Everyone tasted great! I sampled the spicy asada and that too was yummy. Each flavor came in their own box which made it easy for setup. We recently tried Lord Empanada for lunch. My cousin wanted to try something new and a quick Yelp search resulted in Argentinean food and their tasty empanadas. All the food seemed like homemade style so we went for it. Located on Myrtle Ave in Monrovia right off the freeway exit. I wanted a sandwich as my primary lunch so I went with a choripan ($10) which is Argentine sausage & chimichurri. The bread they use was great. It held up and was just right. Good spices/seasoning on the Argentine sausage. It came with fries & ketchup... Overall, a really good sandwich. Tasty and different than what I've had before. I recommend the choripan. I also got a chicken empanada ($3.50) and that comes with potato & hard boiled eggs as well the marinated chicken as stuffing. It was good. The empanada was flaky and the filling was a tasty combination of ingredients. My cousin got several empanadas including spinach & cheese as well as birria. He really liked his orders as well. I love this place! I went on a Saturday late afternoon and it was pretty clear. The price for the empanadas is reasonable, not great, not terrible. The service was above average. They served our food relatively quickly. I accidentally choked on some food and the waitress was kind enough to give me some water, which I appreciated. The look of the restaurant gives off cozy vibes, perfect for eating some filling food! We ordered the carne asada, al pastor, beef, spinach, birria, and fajita empanadas. I really liked the dipping sauces that came with the servings. The chimichurri dipping sauce that came with the carne asada was my favorite. It was tangy and went very well with the food. All the empanadas were pretty crispy on the outside and soft on the inside too. I liked the carne asada empanadas the most. The flavor really comes through with every bite. If you're not a fan of carne asada, the al pastor and beef were also quite flavorful. I'd recommend these three. The spinach empanada had hot melted cheese, a classic combo. I thought the birria was unique because you don't usually get birrias with empanadas. It was a different way to eat birria and the consume sauce that came out with it was light. I'd heard about this place and been wanting to try it, so when I happened to be in Monrovia I decided to swing by on 5/25/23. I picked up a few empanadas to try later, and a porchetta sandwich to go as well. The porchetta sandwich tasted great and I love the bread they use, but unfortunately my experience was marred by the leftover string they used to tie the porchetta in the cooking process. One small piece would be marginally excusable, and the flavor wasn't affected at all. But it's wholly unappetizing to find three large pieces of string in my sandwich and end up chewing on it for a while before realizing why my teeth weren't cutting through. I'll still come back, but I expect better of a place that has received such glowing praise from others. read more

I got the spicy black bean, spinach and feta, birria, and special pumpkin spice cheesecake. The spicy black bean reminded me of a chili but it was pasty instead of soupy. Great flavor but a tad dry. Spinach and feta is great. Birria had tender flavorful meat and came with a cup of consommé. The pumpkin spice cheesecake empanada is a special seasonal item and it was delish. Not too sweet and great flavor. Another highlight of the meal was the chimichurri sauce included with the empanadas. There's a spicy and normal version. Had to make a stop when I saw it on the Yelp 100 list. Walked in on a Sunday afternoon and their menu is mighty! I ordered empanadas along with a sandwich. My favorite was the mushroom empanada. 10/10 would recommend. Each worker present at the time was kind and helpful. The cashier gave suggestions, which all turned out to be great! I love the empanadas of Lord Empanada. So I went today to get some of my favorite. I was disappointed when I read a notification on the door saying that they ran out of empanadas for today. I went in to check if they have anything available. The employees confirmed that they ran out of empanadas. So, I ordered 2 beef stroganoff ($18 each). Then, the owner came and told me that there was a customer who placed an order for 2 dozens of beef empanadas but he didn't show up. She offered me to take the 2 dozens with a price of one dozen ($45.20). I was hesitant because I planned to order a dozen of mix empanadas, but then I decided to take the deal and freeze some of them The employees shared with me that since Yelp names Lord Empanada shop in top 100 places to eat in U.S, they have customers who came from all over the states and this is the reason behind running out early nowadays. These are the best Empanadas I've had in the San Gabriel Valley. The savory meat pastries are so soft and with the chimichurri sauce, makes an excellent breakfast, lunch or dinner meal. I ordered a dozen various empanadas and found the heat and savory flavor excellent among those I tried. I wanted to also try their sandwiches, but they were out of the steak cuts used for the pressed sandwiches. Located in "Lower Monrovia" on Myrtle just south of the 210 in an absolutely awful location, Lord Empanada serves up some pretty tasty food, kind of "nouveau Argentinian", if there is such a thing. They have a wide variety of empanadas with fillings that go from "al pastor" to black beans with lots of others in between. We tried the spicy asada, al pastor, mushroon/cheese, and black bean empanadas and they were all pretty good; the last one was a bit on the dry side but that was quickly remedied with some of the house-made chimichurri. The empanadas are an ok size and apparently cooked to order. If you order an assortment they write which is which on your plate, which is very cool and a nice touch. The chimichurri has fresh oregano in it and isn't quite the same as the traditional but it was ok. Overall I'd say these are kind of "hipster" empanadas, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, all things considered. The room is small but has tables and booths. They have other non-empanada items available and we may go back & give them a try for dinner. Beer and wine are available (beer by the can, wine by the bottle) and there are desserts, too. The service is courteous, attentive, and very good overall. They were rated by yelp! as "one of the 100 best places to eat in America", and while I'm not sure I'd go anywhere near that far, we enjoyed our lunch; I hope they'll stick around after the initial hype has passed. If you're in the area or close by give 'em a shot. Interestingly enough, the empanada we both liked the most was the mushroom and cheese one; the spicy asada one was also good, and the al pastor has a weird texture but tasted OK. read more

These empanadas were absolutely delicious! You can catch a peek of them being folded and fried, and the freshness is evident. There were so many fun flavors that I recommend bringing a friend so you can maximize tasting them. We got their spicy asada, al pastor, chicken fajita, and spring roll plus the beef and birria from their regular menu. For dessert we tried the apple pie and New York cheesecakes... and finished off with flan. The empanadas are quite sizable - especially for the price. The crusts were crispy without being oily, and kept the generous fillings juicy. The accompanying sauces were also delicious, and we had fun mixing and matching them. My favorites were the al pastor dipped in their garlicky chimichurri (which we think was cilantro free) and the spring roll (like a fusion egg roll!) with the sweet chili sauce. Dessert wise, the apple pie dipped in BOTH dulce de leche and jam was perfect. I'll definitely be back again for the alfajore cookies - we were too stuffed to try them this time. They had a variety of beer and wine options, along with more desserts and sandwiches & plates and I'm looking forward to trying them too! Just a small place with big taste. Love the empanadas but this place goes even further with some great entrees. My favorites are the Beef Stroganoff and Chili Verde with rice. I particularly enjoy the pizza empanadas and the mushroom empanadas. My hubby likes the tritip sandwich. There is enough variety for all, even vegan choices. And how many local restaurants are in the Top 100 for the entire country? This one is, among other awards. Ryan does alot of community support projects as well. That was a good sign for sure. It's a cute little restaurant with booths to dine in. Parking is a little bit challenging though so be prepared. The staff were super friendly though. I opted to taste 5 different empanadas: we got the chicken, beef, Birria, breakfast bacon & ham empanadas. My favorite thus far would have to be the Birria. The empanadas come out fresh and hot and ohh so yummy. The dough on the empanadas is just prefect with a nice crunch on the outside. They really do not skip out of meat on any of their empanadas. My husband and I also shared a tri-tip sandwich and honestly OMG! So delicious. The bread was super soft and not soggy with the meat and veggies inside. The meat was tender and flavorful! It was a great late lunch for overall. I highly recommend this place and I for sure will be coming back and maybe try out their dessert empanadas and more of their sandwiches. They have a lot of vegetarian friendly options which kind of surprised me!
