I want to give Lola's a higher rating. I really do. And I do think I will give myself another opportunity to do so, but based on my last visit I can't. I've been here twice now. The first time was amazing. Food was good. Came to our table quickly. Place was packed. If you're looking for a nice sit down style restaurant with nicer place settings than a plastic fork and plate...this probably isn't the place for you. The restaurant is a hole in the wall. No other way to put it. It's not nice, but the food can be good. So why come here? The prices. So cheap. Peruvian places tend to get a little pricey. Not the case here. I thought I had found a goldmine. I love Peruvian food. Always have. Always will. Lola's definitely delivers, but for some reason on my last visit they fell short. I brought my boyfriend here for dinner and in Lola's defense it was close to closing time, but I don't think it explains the amount of time it took for our food to get to our table. We waited for close to 25 minutes for food that we saw others order after us, eat and leave before we got our orders. The worst part was that once we got our food it wasn't even that warm. I think this must be because it was close to closing time, but I don't think that is an acceptable reason to serve food that is sub par. My first visit was on a weekend afternoon so that just might be the difference. I will be back, but until then I can only give 3 stars. read more

Stopped in here after they got a mention in a LA Times article about rotisserie chicken. The place is hardcore. It is in a somewhat bad area and shares the strip mall with a water store, check cashing store, donut shop, a latin dvd store and a mariscos restaurant. This is the type of place I typically drive right by. Parking is insane. They have about a dozen spots for the whole strip mall and no close street parking during evening rush hour. People were double and triple parked in the lot. Most were coming to Lola's, a good sign. You know you have found a hidden gem when a place like this is filled with professional looking white folks. Sorry everyone, but this is a hispanic business with the signs and menu primarily in spanish. Only about half of the customers were hispanic. The place was packed at 6pm when I visited. Their specialty is the chicken. It is done in a rotisserie over Oak wood. This is very unique, I have never seen this. Normally chickens would be gas fired. The place has a wonderful smell to it. They offered all sorts of sides, which looked great. I just picked up a chicken. It came with two sauces, a white one and a green one. The white one was a sweet sauce, not sure what it consisted of but it was good. The green one was cool with quite a spice kick, very good as well. The chicken had an oak and spice flavor, though not as flavorful as I had expected. The chicken was also a little on the small side as chickens go. The meat was average on the juicy scale, not dry but not overly moist. The family liked it and we devoured the entire bird for dinner. In all, I would try again. The cost of one chicken was $10.00 plus tax. When comparing this to Costco's $5 big plump chicken it is hard to justify the price difference. I like Lola's commitment to quality and would like to try some sides. They have individual meals that seem to be a great bargain. read more

I'm generally not crazy about chicken, but I love chicken skin--that is, chicken skin that's super crispy and flavorful. If it weren't for the Groupon, I never ever would have come here. The parking lot alone would have scared me off (tight and packed). But I had a 7$ for 15$ worth of food expiring pretty soon. And if I have one goal in life, it's to never waste a deal. 15.99 gets you a whole rotisserie roasted chicken and two sides. We had beans and a salad. The beans were good, but I suspect a huge amount of lard goes into making them. The salad was simple, but it complemented the rich beans. This fed three people, but if you're starving, you might need something else. They have other Peruvian favorites here, like mon amour Lomo Saltado, but I like to order what the place is not only known for, but named after. At least the first time. Most people were doing take-out. It's probably more enjoyable that way. I hate eating on paper plates, and the meal would have been even better with a beer. I grew up eating at Lola's and it might have been my first introduction to Peruvian food. The chicken is great. The firewood they cook it with gives it a nice taste. Try this chicken with some aji verde and you won't regret it. I've recently tried the Lomo Saltado here too. They don't serve much but you will be satisfied. Again, the sauces they have are great. Put it on your lomo saltado, chicken or your rice and it gives it the extra flavor that you know you want. It is always a pleasure to be coming back. Lolas chicken is the best Peruvian place to have some pollo a la brasa! My family and I always go to this place because the chicken is amazing, love the French fries and salad too!!! I am sad to say that the experience I had today here has left me with a terrible taste and really disappointed. I started off by ordering my food over the phone in advance so that when I would arrive I would just pick up, go home and enjoy. I placed my order at 7:07PM and gave myself and them 30 to 40 minutes for the food to be ready. I arrive at the restaurant at 7:30PM. All I ordered was a chicken, fries, salad and a Inka Cola. I got to the restaurant, they charged my card and gave met drink and nothing else. So I assumed my food was not ready. I sat down patiently and waited for my order. As time passed by I noticed people started getting in the restaurant and while I was waiting they were all eating chicken and fries. After 25 minutes I thought to myself maybe something happened I'll just give them a little more time. Finally after 45 minutes of waiting I went and spoke with the lady at the front (owner or manager) but really unprofessional and asked what's taking so long?she said that they had run out of fries and that is why it was taking so long. Run out of fries? Even though I'm seeing people around me eating these fries after I got there. The lady did not apologize, did not acknowledge the fact that I had been waiting for so long. All she did was make up a clear lie and excuse. She could have been honest and said they forgot or lost my order. I still waited another 20 minutes for my food to be given to me which at this point I was already beyond starving and upset. But was there any apology or compensation for the wait, no! Nothing! I got my food at 9:00 pm!!! After waiting an hour and a half in total for an order nothing was done, not even a simple apology. Well, I'm sorry that you clearly do not care about your guests. Oh and there's a sign for the bathrooms were It clearly states "not to the public", by even their own customers who are eating there, the restaurant denies the use of the bathroom for their client. There are quite a few options for rotisserie chicken in the Valley especially of the peruvian flavor. Lola's does not disappoint in this department. They offer up some tasty chicken that is well seasoned and juicy and of course aji sauces. Here they have mostly the green and white sauces, don't remember ever being offered the yellow kind. The chicken is fine and the sides are pretty standard in what you would get at most peruvian joints, fries, rice, beans, salad, etc. But of course you are mainly here for the chicken which is pretty delicious. Only thing keeping this place from a few more stars does come down to service. It can be a bit slow and sometimes getting your order can take quite a bit. Also cleanliness sometimes seems to be a bit of an issue. But for a hole in the wall type place I guess you shouldn't be surprised. We go here often despite all this and would recommend it to people looking for a new peruvian chicken place to call their own. read more

For the two sides I got the pinto beans and rice. The rice was plain white rice. The real gem here was the hot, spicy green sauce that I splashed over the rice and beans. DELICIOUS. Whole in the wall places are always the best. This place is amazing!! Best chicken I've ever had. Didn't need the skin to have flavor, all of it was good. Very juicy too! The price is awesome. $6.25 + tax for a quarter chicken and two sides. Speaking of sides - their beans are amazing as well. They are generous with their portions unlike other places with rotisserie chicken like CCC... It seemed like I got half a chicken although I know I did not. Their green sauce is spicy although yummy. I like the green sauce at super pollo better because the creamy to spice ratio is so perfect. Not enough to make me give this place 4 stars though, it deserves all 5. I think next time I'm gonna try mixing the sauces because I didn't even notice the second one in my bag. I don't make many reviews but had to today. I called to make a suggestion to the restaurant regarding their uncooked and pale fries in order to not make these kind of reviews and she hung up. I gave it a 2 star just because the chicken was okay in taste but the fries were horrible. As I mentioned, the fries were pale and completely uncooked. Been here several times this past year and it has yet to disappoint. The rotisserie chicken is the best I've had. My son says it's way better than his previous favorite which was California Chicken Cafe. I always opt for the lomo saltado which is pretty tasty especially with the killer green sauce. It's sometimes hit or miss as far as how well done they cook the meat though. My wife orders the chicken chaufa and loves it. If you are doing take-out and love spicy foods, make sure you order an extra green sauce to go. Most of the people here speak Spanish only so it's a plus if you can speak too. However, you can get by if you just need to order food. Parking is not the greatest so you may want to opt for street parking on Victory. I've been hooked on Peruvian food ever since I tried the Pollo a la Brasa at Takatis in Van Nuys. Lola's is no where as good as Takatis. The chickens are smaller (I had 1/4 dark meat and I barely had 4 bites of meat). The flavor is less intense. Since my meal was so-so, I treated myself to the Lucuma ice cream they sell - now that was good! I'll stop by for ice cream in the future but skip the chicken. read more

I just had a crummy experience at Lola's . I ordered the green spaghetti w chixn plate over the phone, which shows a price of $11.99 on their website as well as on here yelp. But when I arrived to pay for it , the new cashier girl tried to charge me almost $18 ! When I explained to her in English, she looked at me with a blank stare and just shrugged her elbows like this emoji ‍! Lol ! So I tried again in Spanish and even showed her on my phone what I was talking about and she didn't have an idea nor an answer as to what was going on, she just pointed at the cashier like machine is right but I can't explain why. Horrible customer service to say the least! So why am I still giving it five stars you ask? Because I've been coming here for around 20 years with my family ever since I was a kid. When it comes to the chicken, it's the best Peruvian rotisserie in all the valley hands down! With more new Peruvian restaurants poppin up all over town, they can't compete with Lola's when it comes to the chicken, and it's for so many reasons. Lola's uses real firewood when others use electric. Lola's portions are always on point, way more than others. But the main reason is they sell their chickens quick, they don't sit on it! All day people come in mostly for the rotisserie, so their chicken once out the oven doesn't stay in the warmer for long. Which ensures that you will get a fresh juicy on the inside but crispy skin piece of perfection rotisserie every time. Other restaurants sit on their chickens, and when they get an order, they'll warm it up (sometimes from the day before!) in the oven. Which is the worst thing you could do, it dries the chicken up completely and makes the skin soggy! Ugghh! you can tell the difference right away! As a chef in the business I tend to stay away from places with crummy customer service even if the food is good. To be a truly successful restaurant you must ensure that every customer has a pleasant experience when dining at your establishment. With that said I've come to love the chicken from Lola's so much that only in this case will I still give it 5stars and continue to return here, even if I have to wait 30mins for my order to come out because f.o.h. Forgot about my order until I reminded them ‍(it happened to me here also a couple times, c'mon it's been 20yrs) I guess they've made a customer for life. Also, I can't stand to believe that takatis another Peruvian restaurant down the street has better ratings and reviews than Lola's . UPDATE: Loco del Pollo (aka Lola's) has always been my go-to place when it comes to "pollo a la brasa". The issue with them was the restroom situation (not offering it to their patrons (dine-in or take-out). Since the time of my previous review, the restaurant has taken that into consideration and they have been making the restroom to patrons. Although it is a very small place and it is only one restroom for the restaurant, they do offer it if you ask them. Now, you don't have to "hold it" while you wait for your order or if the restaurant is crowded, which is quite common sometimes because their pollo a la brasa is in my opinion, the best in the area. Don't worry about waiting too long either; the guys in the kitchen are working fast to get orders out (you can see them while you order). I have never felt I have to wait more than I don't want to, but I also recommend you call ahead and order OTP if you want to get in and out when you get there. read more

My family and I have been trying our many different Peruvian place to find the best Pollo a la Brasa and so far this has always been our number 1 spot! Other places just don't make the chicken as juicy or flavorful as them. Its either dry or just pain bland. Neither the fries from other places just have it super dry. Lola's chicken and fries come out just right like if I'm eating it from Peru itself. Taste like the restaurant that is close to my grandma house in Peru. I will never stop loving this places.
