I love love loved this little coffee shop. My family and I were in town and decided to stop here because of the Yelp reviews. It definitely did not disappoint. Their coffee is delicious. I went here two years ago and ordered eggs and I asked for hot sauce. The Barista told me they don't have any because the owner doesn't want to provide hot sauce to their customers. We are talking a $2 bottle of tabasco sauce here. I go back today 2 years later. Same thing--yo geniuses. You have a place that serves breakfast. Californians like hot sauce, salsa, etc on their food. Just stock some cholula or tabasco! Its cheap!. I'm not coming back until you notify me and carry hot sauce for your food. Came home for the holidays from the frigid northeast and decided to explore coffee shops along the coastline. This was actually the second coffee shop of my day as I just couldn't get comfortable at the first. With the San Diego weather I've noticed a lot of coffee shops tend to open to the sidewalk so lots of fresh air but a little chilly for me. I would preface this review to say that I'm looking more for a cafe to study in. This cafe was very cute and I loved the concept (beautiful wood tables, drip coffee going at the front) but maybe not ideal for studying. It can get quite bustling with people coming in and out but I would say it's a perfect spot to catch up with someone. I tried the chai tea latte with their homemade almond milk. You can tell they made it from steeped tea leaves and not tea concentrate but the end texture wasn't very smooth, more grainy. I might try their hot teas next time. read more

That mocha is amazing....the chocolate they use is house made. :) Worth the long line out the door- it moves really fast so don't be discouraged by the line. They have a small menu where you can order a healthy breakfast- of poached eggs with toast of Rye or Gluten free Bread. You can order sides-sausage/condiments to go with this- all healthy/organic ingredients. I was curious about their hummus and it was amazing! I got a side of spinach and avocado to top my toast. They are more of a coffee shop with house made pastries than they are a sit down breakfast place- but if you are looking for a healthy breakfast with your delicious coffee- order those poach eggs. :)) They have another location just across the street that does the roasting to their coffees and where you can find a variety of their coffee's for purchase. I got a bag of their Costa Rica Coffee to take home with me and I can kick myself for getting just one bag. It's delicious! It's $17 for the bag. lofty indeed!! and not just cause its located at the encinitas loft condos. this is one of the most high-and-mighty coffee shops outside of Boulder CO that ive ever found. a close rival would be the hoity toity "our shit doenst stink" Public Domain in Portland OR. here it seemed like they made a point every 30 seconds to say aloud how they only use wonderful organic coffee and milk and everything is delicious because its so organic. if anything is sweetened its only with pure cane sugar of the highest organic organablity, blah dee blah. they take a lot of pride in their Whole Foods purchased 365 brand organic cane sugar sweetened almond milk or whatever. also, some jerk cut in front of me in line and started hob nobbing with the baristas and it seemed like nobody noticed i was even there. it was like that South Park episode where all the hybrid-driving hippies smell their own farts. id rather not pay 2.50 for a 16oz of coffee just because its organic. some people might. some people also might be horrified at the fact that i like sweetening my coffee with Splenda. read more

Great place. Love the coffee and I didn't even know they served breakfast the first time I went as I was in such a hurry. Guess I should have slowed down to smell the... roses. Now this is really what is great about Encinitas - Moonlight Beach is just a couple blocks away. I mean it's very close so that relaxing beachy feeling is in the air all over the place. It was so nice out. The only seating not completely occupied had a guy sitting by himself drinking coffee and was nice enough to lend me the other side of the table. I sat and began to take in the smell of the ocean air and the chilled out feeling of the people sitting around in conversation. It was very nice. If you know where Encinitas Surfboard Shop is on Coast Hwy, Lofty Coffee co is right across the street. A great location. Anyway, didn't take long before my Latte was brought to me. Then my breakfast. So I was expecting your average sausage breakfast with average coffee and I would have been pleased with that. Remember, simple guy that I am? Good to go with the old standard type things I always order. This would be different. Scary for me. Not a fan of uncharted waters, however, this would be nice. It was a refreshing change from the average greasy sausage and eggs breakfast. It's not greasy and it is very good. It's not at all average either. It's... it's... It's better. It's much better. Oh my gosh, yes. Whenever I need an influx of coffee running through my veins and arteries I come here! Such a cute little cafe right along the beach. I personally love their caramel lattes iced or hot. It's a convenient place to study or catch up with some friends. The employees are so friendly and make the effort to have a conversation with you. My caramel latte was pretty good, but the service here left something to be desired in a major way. I came in at about 6:30am when there were only 2 other customers in the place. The lady behind the counter promptly took my order but it took probably a good 10 minutes to give me my drink. I used to work at a cafe.....there is no reason whatsoever that it should take that long to get someone their drink when there are only 3 customers in the store and each person only ordered one drink. I was totally floored. why????? Also, the selection of baked goods was paltry. If I was hell bent on having organic everything, I'd come back again, but since I'm more interested in a quality drink with excellent service, I'd head elsewhere. read more

Hands downs the best coffee spot in SD. Trust me on this. Just get the salted caramel latte iced and the peanut butter brownie. You'll want to come back as often as you can to get them. I've also tried the Mexican Mocha, Kyoto and Moroccan Mint Tea and those are great too. You can just tell everything made here is of the highest quality. Been here a few times now. I find this place very hit or miss. The setting is nice and people are usually polite but I am always disappointed in the coffee. It is usually acidic and/or bitter. This is some of the best coffee I've had, like... ever. I liked it so much that after I finished my latte, I went back for a pourover cup. Nicely done. The people who work there SEEM like they'll be snobby (because they're all trendy and good looking and I'm judgmental, I guess), but in actuality they're super nice. And they have these rad contraptions for slow brewing that are just wild looking. Fun art and pyrography, too. The line moves fairly quickly, but I highly recommend going to Lofty early on the weekends, or on weekdays. This is one of my favorite coffee places in the San Diego area. I am from Seattle, now living in San Diego, and have been touring and tasting at different cafes in the area. I LOVE Lofty Coffee Co. My friend and I meet here regularly and have delicious, fresh coffee, as well as their breakfast items (which are fresh as can be) and lunch items. I came here every morning for my spring break with my boyfriend and we come here all of the time when we are in California. It is a must go to place in Encinitas. The customer service they provide here is wonderful. They even have substitute choices for your milk/cream you can get Almond or Soy milk if you cant have dairy. But the Straus Milk Company is the best known milk that I have had and can get. I Love how everything is organic and local as well. It is hard to find places like this in this area. Up until today we LOVED this place but after our experience this morning, we probably won't be going back. Every time we visit lofty we spend between $8 and $30 1-3x week. Today when my husband ordered his regular drink, a triple espresso on ice (which they upsold to a quad), we were asked if he was going to put milk in his coffee. The answer being yes (he puts a drop of cream in it). We were told that they had to put it in for him so they could regulate the amount he used. Then we get a light talking to about how customers order espresso and add milk and make their own lattes and should be charged for it. BUT if I order a cup of coffee, I can add as much milk or cream as I want. Really Lofty...for the prices you charge...don't be cheap. read more
