My friend and I chose Lofty Coffee as the spot for our coffee date. Due to the COVID environment, we both ordered via the app and waited outside for our orders. Seeing how popular their croissants were, I was excited to try their almond croissant. Unfortunately, they were out of all croissants (it was early AM on a Friday) so instead of an easy contactless ordering experience, I had to go in to replace my order with something else. Considering it was their fault the app did not accurately reflect what was in stock, I was a little surprised that instead of offering to replace my order that I had already paid for via the app with something else of my choice, they insisted on going through the trouble of refunding me the croissant and then making me pay again for my new order. At this point, I really didn't prefer any of their menu items but as I was extremely hungry in that moment, I decided to order their turkey sandwich just to have something to eat. It was extremely overpriced and very underwhelming in taste and size. The sandwich was tiny, bread was tough and hard, and flavor was extremely bland. I also ordered a coffee and while I remember it being fine, I don't remember what it was as it was also not memorable. I would come here for just the Turkish latte and the Aztec mocha. Be warned, do not get the mocha if you can't handle spice. It gives a delightfully strong kick as you feel it go down your throat. The Turkish coffee isn't too bitter and has a spicy taste, though not nearly as spicy as the Aztec mocha. Both are great choices to perk you up. read more

I'm not local but have been coming here for many years as my go-to latte and breakfast spot whenever I'm in North SD. So happy they've been able to open additional locations in La Costa, Carlsbad, and Cedros. You can't go wrong with their salted caramel latte, poached eggs with to die for gluten free bread + avocado and heirloom tomatoes. Some might complain it's a little pricey especially with everything being a la carte, but they continue to nail a perfect breakfast every single time. read more

Stopped by around 2:00 for a coffee and light lunch. Unfortunately Lofty stops serving brewed coffee (the only kind I drink) in the afternoon. Other types (such as espresso) were available. What an amazing experience~!! We dropped by on our way to LA for the day for a quick coffee. So I had an iced coffee, not amazing, not horrible. My partner for the day had a regular coffee...again, not amazing, not horrible. The food though. Man. We ordered a cinnamon roll and the toast with chicken sausage and eggs. Cute little plates and quick service coupled with the amazing flow of customers through the front door in this industrial feeling coffee joint led to a solid four stars. The main reason for one star is the price. I understand paying a premium at the beach or at a designer coffee shop, but, to pay $5 for about 6-8 oz of coffee is silly! While the line gets long at peak times, the service is impeccable. Every single worker has their A-game on and you'll feel it immediately after interacting with the help. The coffee drinks are the most creative and on par with the highest quality anywhere. Their espresso roast is exceptional, especially if you prefer a dark, robust flavor (properly roasted though, NOT over-roasted). The vanilla syrup is hand made and the foods are top quality. E.g. Strauss Dairy yogurt is served here. I happen to like the coffee at Cafe IPE more, but frequent Lofty just as often for their product diversity and better atmosphere. Lofty Coffee and Zumbar Coffee are the only coffee places I go for caffeination in San Diego. Lofty in Encinitas has the roasting facility on the right hand side of the street, and the other restaurant (with food service) on the left hand side. Some items are only served in one and not the other, so beware. I have tried their "nitro" and this is really funky. I don't know what it is with nitrogen-infused things now. Beer, Ice cream, you name it. I liked it with coffee for sure. I have also tried their French Toast. It is made with S.L.O.E. eggs, or sustainable, local, organic and ethical eggs:) with 100% pure maple syrup, straus butter and fresh fruit available with gluten free almond millet bread. The waiters and waitresses, baristas, everyone is really accomodating. The place is also dog-friendly, which is a plus for me. You can get your coffee fix after or before a walk on Moonlight Beach. If you have not already tried Lofty, this place is a must, and don't be afraid to get what sounds cool to you, because you really cannot go wrong with anything. Liquid crack is my words to describe Lofty Coffee. We ordered a Salted Carmel Latte, which one would have thought would be sweet, but surprisingly was smooth and rich with a light touch of Carmel sweetness. I asked for nonfat milk to make it less heavy. We ordered a Turkish Latte, as well, again with nonfat milk. Spiced with cardamom, it held deep and earthy coffee taste with spiced cardamom undertones. But about half way through I felt my head buzzing in the craziest way, like I'd drank absinthe with a shot of absinthe. Jittery is an understatement and I drink coffee every damn day, ya dig? After an hour I was fine, but definitely will think twice about ordering that again. I drink coffee everyday, but that latte was strong! I guess that's the point, yes? My older daughter ordered an Earl Grey tea which she said was good. We did not order food, but it all looked very good. They gave a nice assortment of muffins and pastries, egg plates and salads. They roast their own coffee beans and give back to the community. The atmosphere is very earthy Cali coffee shop, a blend of professionals in heels, hipsters in birks and floppy hats, moms meeting up with other moms with strollers, and what looks like outdoor enthusiasts in super tight and revealing biking shorts. Meeeooow. Total bill for 2 lattes and a tea, $13-ish. Located on the corner in Encinitas, there's outdoor and indoor seating., I would definitely try Lofty Coffee again. read more
