Veeery dry even with the cinnamon apples. I've had some of the brunch entrees that are spectacular...french toast ain't one of em'. Ordered takeout from Loco Cafe today, and we both got the Pollo Loco Sandwich with a jalapeño butter biscuit. Someone get the food network over here or some food review show because this is the best chicken sandwich that I have ever had. The biscuit is perfect and flakey with a non greasy mouth feel. The chicken is giant and seasoned to perfection. When you tie it all together with the bread and butter pickles and honey mustard, you get an amazing experience. The carrot slaw is, also, the perfect accompaniment to the robust power of the chicken sandwich. This is a fun place for breakfast/brunch. There is limited parking on the corner of a busy street, so parking can be a challenge if it's busy. I love the items on the menu. So many options looked good that I had a hard time deciding what to order. I ended up ordering the black bean chalupas. They were really good. This was the first restaurant we ever tried when moving from Grand Prairie to Denton. AMAZING!!!! The menu is diverse but not so overwhelming that the cooks would need to have mastered every cooking technique under the sun to deliver a savory presentation. I'm giving 5 stars based on food choice, coffee, order accuracy, speed to table, service consistently over 7 years, cleanliness, diverse choice and atmosphere. Service is always with a smile "so far" They are one of the few places that have a dark roast as a coffee option and it's a good one. Would love it to be organic but "hey" thanks for the dark roast The combinations are unique and affordable. First time here and won't be back. Terrible customer service and staff isn't knowledgeable about what they are serving. Ordered the ham and cheese omelette and asked for American cheese only. Asked for my hash browns to come with American cheese also. Food comes out cold after 20 minutes and there's no cheese on the hash browns and cheddar cheese on the omelette. I went to the person who delivered the food and said very politely "excuse me but I asked for American cheese only on the omelette and also on the hash browns". She replies with "we don't have American cheese here". I said oh ok well when I ordered I mentioned I only wanted American cheese and nobody told me y'all don't have it. I said oh ok no big deal I guess and I asked if they could just give me some French toast instead and she said ok. I get my French toast and when she drops it off I'm still being polite and said "thank you" and she didn't say a word just kinda slid it towards me and didn't even look at me or reply. I don't understand how I'm the problem when your staff doesn't even know you don't have American cheese and food comes out cold? We decided to try this place out on a whim on a stormy weekend morning and we were not disappointed. Word to the wise, don't come here and order basic stuff, like a BLT or something. Order something different on their menu, something not every restaurant will have. I ordered the Loco Moco with scrambled eggs and flat iron steak, with both gravy and salsa and a honey butter biscuit. The salsa was actually flavorful and had a kick, nothing worse that getting "salsa" that tastes like ketchup! Their biscuits are not the typical biscuits. They are soft, layered and flaky. Super good and not dry at all. The honey butter is a nice touch, not overly sweet with a good balance of honey and butter. The food itself was made fresh. The country potatoes were in good bite size pieces with bell peppers and onions. The combination was fairly delicious and portions are generous with the price, it was enough to feed two! We ordered a cinnamon roll, it was HUGE! (Again, more than enough for two people) I'm usually weary about ordering cinnamon rolls because they are usually dry and crumbly and the icing is WAY too sweet, but to my surprise, this one was not. It was moist on the inside and I believe the icing they make is a type of whipped icing and it was not the least bit too sweet, light, fluffy, not over bearing, it was damn near perfect. My favorite thing was the ice box coffee- I love coffee! definitely something cute and fun, iced coffee that comes in a martini shaker which you pour over a frosted glass with coffee ice cubes so when it melts, it only intensifies the coffee flavor, not water it out! Nice atmosphere, very clean, spacious, and very quiet while I was there but could see it getting loud when crowded. Coffee was excellent but food was mediocre at best. I had a veggie omelette with a side of sausage. Eggs were overcooked and evidently a "side" is just one previously frozen sausage patty. I ordered the taco with bacon. The salsa made a big difference. It was filling and I like the ingredients. My wife shared her jack pancakes make sure to order the apple cinnamon to put on them. When our food was delivered the person forgot to bring the apple cinnamon topping and the syrup. I went and reminded him. It still did not come. I went back and asked again and he said he had forgot. I then went to the kitchen and got it from the kitchen staff since our food was getting cold. They seem to need more servers. I finally got to go to Loco Cafe, after passing it hundreds of times............ why did it take me so long? who the hell knows, but I'm glad I came. This is a breakfast/ brunch/ lunch place, heavy on the breakfast. So, that being said.... we came for lunch. This place is known for their homemade biscuits, and the BLT that my father had came on one and he said it was pretty good. I had the red snapper tacos with homemade salsa and black beans. Grilled fish, carrots and some peppers were in the tortilla and worked really well together with the salsa. The salsa needed more of a kick to it, but it was chunky and not runny at all. The black beans melted in your mouth, they were the highlight of the plate. A nice glass of fresh made limeade made it all even better. I got a brownie for dessert which was decent but needed some more of a chocolate kick to it, but nevertheless it was gone in less than a minute by me and my daughter. I will be back. I think that Loco Cafe has the best coffee in Denton. I crave the ice box coffee on the daily, and I've never had anything like it from anywhere else. Unfortunately, I've never been a real fan of the food here. I've tried quite an array of their more interesting offering and have been quite let down. However, it truly might just be personal preference, as I really don't care for eggs. I find that Loco doesn't cook their eggs quite as much as I would prefer. Loco Cafe was the very first restaurant I ever visited when I moved to Denton almost five years ago, and it remains my favorite local restaurant to this day. I've visited many times over the years and can always count on consistent quality of delicious brunch options. My favorites include the breakfast nachos, johnnycakes and the magic chicken soup. My most recent visit was on our surprise snow day. After spending a couple of hours outside in the cold snow, I NEEDED some of that magic chicken soup. You can get it with either a biscuit or jalapeno cheddar muffins. I always choose the muffins, hands down. You get three good sized muffins which make the soup a truly filling meal for a great price. The muffins are a tad sweet on their own but smear a little butter on them or dip them into the smoky, savory soup and you've created a truly marvelous combination. I love that the chicken is smoked, rather than boiled. You can really taste the difference. Per usual, the soup was fantastic, hearty, and satisfying. Just what was needed on a chilly day. My husband ordered the chilaquiles (a special that day) and declared that they were some of the best he has had, even better than some he had while in Mexico. I was lucky enough to try a bit and I agree that they were pretty darn tasty, with a good crunch to the tortilla chips and a tangy (but not overwhelming) salsa verde. Preface: my daughter said this place was good which is what brought us in. We also make it a point to support local. We tipped the unfriendly counter person who said 2 words to us really well even though she could not have been more unhelpful or unenthused, and we paid $35 for 2 ppl. That said, I feel RIPPED OFF after eating here. The food was not even at "not good" level. It was inedible. I would have preferred a hospital cafeteria! The potatoes were completely unseasoned and undercooked, some were crunchy. The gravy had zero flavor. The biscuits were so dry we couldn't eat them. The sausage was dry and thin and hard and tasted like it was cooked a week ago, also seasoned super weird. My scrambled egg couldn't have even been one whole egg and was overcooked and in tiny pieces. How hard is a scrambled egg? My kid could have made a better one. Silverware was dirty. No napkins in the dispenser. Had a sign that said pick up your drinks here. We were confused and asked if we shld get drinks we already paid for at the seperate counter and the batista acted annoyed even answering us. Cashier was taking a break next to us and coughing everywhere at a booth without even covering her mouth. I see the management is doing nothing to fix others who have had the exact same experience over the last few months. I am very forgiving normally! But this was not food! YUCK! It has some unusual items and they are very close to nailing it. This is a order at the counter and they deliver to your table place. The juevos rancheros was ok. I didn't care for the corn tortillas that were like a big half chip. It was OK and grew on me a bit. The bisquits have a great flavor, a bit spicy, and so does the gravy but the bisquits were a tad over baked. The pancakes were over cooked by about a minute or two on one side but we're light and tasty. The meatloaf was good and my son did a good job devouring them. Also had a spice to them. read more

As I'm looking at this page, it seems like there are a lot of mixed reviews and I just want to clarify one thing to everyone... I've been coming here on Sunday mornings for brunch for the past few weeks now and I'm really satisfied with their breakfast menu. I'll admit in the beginning when I first started coming here it was because I got flyers for breakfast tacos buy 1 get one free on UNT's campus, from those little coupon books, and i thought hey i love breakfast taco's I'll give this place a shot. The first time I went here I really loved what I got, when I finally decided to give the rest of their menu a shot I was disappointed by many things, there was the lack of flavor that people have been commenting on so I stuck back to my breakfast taco. It wasn't until today that I noticed an improvement in the food quality and flavor with other dishes. For example, I ordered the artisan breakfast quesidillas that came with a side of black beans and I was really surprised by how much this place has improved the quality of their food within less than a month. The beans had a lot more flavor and the main dish itself was yummy! Yeah this place is owned by GreenHouse so the expectations are rather high for a lot of people who come in. But because of the prices, more and more people are gathered here for food everytime I come in. And its nice seeing this place doing so well. Conclusion? Yes I am a fan of this place and they're continuing to grow and improve upon their menu so I'd say if your interested in coming here, don't be deterred by all the reviews go check it out for yourself. read more

You can't live in Denton and not try this place! It's definitely in my top 3 Denton favorites! You walk in and order from the counter. They have breakfast/brunch/lunch type options. The menu is actually broken up into "with eggs" and "without eggs" sections. THE ONE THING YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY ORDER IS A BISCUIT WITH HONEY BUTTER! The biscuits are BIG! Which is why I generally only order that and a drink. And by drink, I mean a HIBISCUS LEMONADE. They make it at a separate beverage bar where gourmet coffees are perfectly poured and lemonades and teas are hand-shaken. SO GOOD! Hibiscus lemonade isn't really a usual request, as one of the workers had no idea the two could even be put together. But it is the ULTIMATE combination of tart and sweet :) A few weeks ago, I ventured out of my usual biscuit order and got a BLT. The best, THE BLT COMES ON A BISCUIT! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it! You could even ask for a jalapeno butter biscuit, and they slather on a layer of tomato mayo. IT'S SO GOOD! It comes with carrot slaw, but I always swap out for black beans. (If you noticed, I said "always"... I've had this at least 4 times in the past few weeks!) The coffees are delicious. My husband gets their fancy shmancy Stacked Cup coffees (they have a chocolate mint and a pecan). I would get the coffee more, but I am just so addicted to those dang Hibiscus Lemonades! They have these GIANT cinnamon rolls at the order counter... and by giant, I mean the size of your head! They also have pies and cookies (and apparently they have some really good gluten free cookies)! It's very clean inside and the many windows bring in a really good amount of natural sunlight. This is a favorite for us when it comes to breakfast places. They have a self serve coffee bar so you never have to ask for a refill or just ask to have a warm up. The food is stellar and always beyond expectations. Our kids love the biscuits which I agree are to die for.
