Walking around the square, the coffee bar was the first place I discovered open. As it was the day after Christmas, the premises were not too crowded. On this morning, quite a few two-tops were available. Fortunately, there was no need to sit by the bar as those stools had no backs. I ordered the Classic Breakfast. The buttermilk pancakes, of which I barely finished half, were very delicious. The sausage patties were equally delightful. The same could not be said of the syrup which congealed as it poured. Although the fried eggs had a pleasant taste, I failed to be more precise on how they were to be cooked as the yolk was liquified. When I ordered the Holiday Brew drip coffee, I wished the cashier had suggested the Bottomless Drip. As I usually drink more than a single cup, I could have saved some money. Regardless, the coffee had a very pleasant taste. When gratuity was requested, it would have been very beneficial to know for what I was tipping? When I ordered off the breakfast menu, the price was not for the raw ingredients but the cost of it being made. The same with ordering drip coffee. When I saw the silverware by the cream and coffee sweetener, I expected to grab my own utensils. As it was my initial visit, the sign to bus my own table was totally unexpected. It definitely explained why there were a lot of crumbs on the table. Since the sign was near the back, it would have been easily missed if I had not visited the restroom. read more

Amazing space and actually great coffee! Service: The person checking us out was very soft-spoken and I can't hear too well... I tried to avoid asking them to speak up but instead ended up asking them to repeat themselves several times. Other than that the service was amazing ! We sat at the bar too and the staff was very nice when we asked for some more ice a few times. Food/drinks We had an iced americano which was really good and not watered down like at some other places. The coffee cake was very flavorful and their breakfast sandwich was hot & fresh. (Also they let us sub bacon for sausage on the sandwich which was amazing !) We also got an iced strawberry matcha which was refreshing but a bit too sweet for me. Really nice and spacious coffee shop in downtown Denton. Indoor and outdoor seating, I love their options for coffee, teas and other drinks, and I'm all for the small food menu. The staff is very friendly and I loved their options personality of one of the female baristas. She was so helpful in choosing food items and she definitely understood my "whisper" as she said of milk added to my espresso. I ordered the vegan pumpkin loaf (it's seasonal) which was amazing! The breakfast toast which had a great kick and the spicy sausage roll. The roll was probably my least favorite but it had great flavor, I'm just picky on the bread texture. Sunday morning at 8:30 was a pretty full house. Ordered breakfast tacos. Two small flour tortillas with good portion of melted cheese topped with scrambled eggs and crumbled bacon. Food came out hot and quite tasty. Only gripe was the "hot sauce" was Buffalo sauce. A tortilla meal in Texas requires salsa or Tex-Mex hot sauce. Not wing sauce. My wife ordered the avocado toast topped with bacon and fried egg. Hers was tasty too but was guacamole, not avocado. Which she liked but should be indicated on the menu. read more

Avocado toast as just okay. I never understood restaurants that take a beautiful vegetable and mash/beat/pulverize it until it's got no texture. It's d asked when I ordered if I could have the avocado chunky and was told "no because the spices are mixed in". ..... so they seriously can't just sprinkle the spices on top of the chunks of avocado? On beautiful days the outdoor patio is a great place to chill and on cold and very hot days indoors is welcoming. Usually able to study or have a conversation. The drinks are excellent; the atmosphere is wonderful; the baristas are personable and great. However, the manager (I lbelieve his name is Connor) is perhaps the rudest person I've ever encountered. West Oak has been my favorite coffee shop in Denton for years -- great atmosphere, great coffee, great staff, and a regular part of my weekly routine. Unfortunately, they've made the baffling decision to operate without air conditioning. It's now so hot inside that it's completely unbearable to sit and enjoy a drink, and with the Texas summer in full swing, even standing in line feels like punishment. I'm genuinely disappointed to lose my go-to spot, but there's no other choice than to switch over to Jupiter House until the weather breaks. Hopefully by September or October it'll be cool enough to return. read more

Stopped by West Oak Coffee Bar for a early morning coffee. This coffee shop is located in the Denton square and parking can be a little challenging. I'd recommend parallel parking on one of the side streets around the square. When you enter, there is plenty of seating in this coffee shop but it can get a bit crowded. Also they roast Voltage espresso beans which are very acidic (which I love). I ordered a vanilla latte, the latte art was on point, and the coffee was just so so good! Wow! What an impressive place. I came in at 7:30 am with a big order of food and drinks for a work trip, and their team of three handled it with aplomb AND made a series of exceptional things. Their avocado toast was a delight. My colleagues universally appreciated their coffee. I was especially impressed by the blueberry syrup (house-made) that was in my hot latte. This place makes me so sad I'm only passing through! The vibe is perfect for studying, catching up with a friend, or just sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee. The coffee itself is delicious - I got an iced blueberry and lavender latte with oatmilk, and the syrups and espresso were absolutely perfect. It's very clear that the baristas are trained to a professional degree in the way they prepare coffee, including how in-house drinks are poured with designs (I snagged a picture of an in-house matcha to prove it), and they were all so friendly to me the entire time. I fully intend to come back the next time I'm in Denton. My only complaint is that the coffee is a touch expensive, but I would argue that the price is absolutely worth it. read more

The West Oak Coffee Bar... love how I feel when I'm visiting this downtown area. Downtown Denton is such a hip area in the most unique way. Walking into this coffee shop (ahem... bar) gives me the "I'm going whiskey tasting" vibes. It's most likely due to the warm and woodsy, oaky tones of this venue's design. The menu offers carefully crafted caffeinated goodness. I am addicted to the chai sbagliato and seriously haven't opted to try any other drinks. BTW, ordering the "chai sbagliato" in Hermione Granger's accent seems so fitting LOL I pair this liquid gold with the cranberry cookie and voila - the Prosecco and cranberry flavors just blooms in your mouth. read more

Hit or miss in the food department. I don't doubt their coffee offerings but I didn't not try them. The vegan sausage turnover is quite surprising in it's ability to taste buttery, meaty, and cheesy whole it's labeled vegan. Their oven heats the outside with a delicate flaky crust, but the center most piece of vegan sausage could have been more warm. It certainly was not cold but it wasn't hot. The peach breakfast cobbler has a lot more dough then filling. I wish there was a more pronounced peach and cinnamon taste. When I will say though, is that it's not overbearing. I never felt like I was going into a food coma eating it. For that, this actually works for any occasion, whether it be truly a breakfast item, tea time snack, or just as a dessert. The gluten free kitchen sink cookies were delicious! While the cookie texture was much more dense than I would like, the flavors of the peanut butter, chocolate, salt, potato chips l, and oats all come together like a boisterous crescendo of a symphonic ending. read more
