Combs Coffee is the kind of place that reminds you why local coffee shops are so special. From the moment you walk in, you can tell that a lot of love and craftsmanship have gone into creating something unique. I ordered the Summer Break, made with coconut, orange, strawberry, and banana syrups, and it was fantastic--refreshing, perfectly balanced, and unlike anything I've had before. Even better, all of their syrups are made in-house, which really shows in the quality and flavor. Owner James has put his personal touch throughout the shop, handcrafting most of the furniture--including the coffee bar itself. It gives the space a warm, welcoming feel that you just don't find in chain coffee shops. There's also beautiful artwork throughout the café, much of it hand-painted by his daughter Caley's grandfather, alongside pieces from talented local artists. I love coffee. I don't consider myself an expert, but I do grind my own beans at home before every cup of coffee I make. I was in the area and needed my morning fix. I found Combs and was excited to try it given all of the positive reviews. The place wasn't hard to find, and there are many helpful signs to show you the way to their front door. Upon entering, I was greeted by jars of coffee for sale. Cute. The interior was really nicely decorated, warm and inviting. The place wasn't busy, and there were only two other people seated at a table in the center of the shop. The barista was very sweet and helpful. After placing my order, she did tell me that there were two other orders ahead of me and there might be a wait. I was ok with a short wait. What I wasn't ok with is waiting almost 30 minutes for a coffee and bagel. The coffee was good. It wasn't great, but I enjoyed it. It was creamy with the right amount of sweetness. However, it wasn't terribly hot. I had asked for extra hot, and it was regular hot. Also, the coffee didn't shine through, and it tasted more milky. The bagel was a waste of money, to be honest. The barista asked me if I had wanted it toasted, and I said yes. The bagel wasn't even warm, let alone toasted. It had the lightest smear of cream cheese, and it tasted like eating a piece of bread. I ended up throwing it away after a couple of bites. Would I come back here? Probably not. Although the coffee was decent, it wasn't memorable. Add to this the bad bagel and the loooong wait, I have no reason to come back. It took 30 minutes to get my order with only two coffee-only orders ahead of me, and I dread to think what the wait time would be like on a busy day. read more

Met a friend here and we both ordered coffees that we had never tried before. Mine in particular was one that was described as almost tasting like jasmine tea. And that it did, but it was clearly coffee. It was a light blend which I absolutely adored, even though my regular cup of coffee is a dark roast. I was so impressed that I bought a jar of their whole bean coffee to take home. Really cute place with simple comforts The service was exceptional. I was running late for a kids birthday party at Corinth Gymnastics and super bummed that I did not have time to make myself a coffee. To my surprise this place was just on the other side of the gymnasium, and out of desperation I went in real quick. I was blown away! I told my husband about it immediately and even shared with my neighborhood Facebook group. They even had this cute little shop with their incredibly impressive selection of coffees, including high end coffee. I couldn't help myself but to grab a jar. Later I went home and looked up more info about this place and just love the fact that they themselves travel all over the world to hand select their coffee. That love and dedication for this business was completely evident in the flavor and I was immediately bummed when I took my last sip. We stopped by on a whim and left incredibly impressed! The coffee itself is delicious, and the menu is absolutely incredible! As far as the menu goes, they also have a multitude of flavors and combinations and I cannot wait to try more. The coffee beans are roasted and ground in the cafe, which I thought was very impressive. The barista was so sweet and welcoming, and also incredibly knowledgeable and beyond helpful. The building itself is a wonder of its own. It's a very unique setup; the entrance is adorable, every wall is covered in beautiful paintings and art, the furniture looks very warm and cozy. It gives off studio vibes, it's all very welcoming and cozy and just added an element of awe to the experience. I'd also like to mention that we bought coffee beans as well, which they also have an incredible large variety of right as you walk in. We bought a jar of beans from Mount Batur, Bali, to make coffee at home and it came out great! Overall, would highly recommend. I had given up my hopes of finding even a decent coffee shop in Denton when I ran across this gem. I'm picky about my coffee, some would probably call me a coffee snob. I prefer pour-over and I like fruity flavors, they have tons of different types of beans that fits the bill. The barista really knew her stuff and recommended several and I ended up trying one of the Ethiopian coffee's and made via pour-over. They also have drip, French press as I recall as well as latte etc. They roast the coffee beans onsite which is pretty rare. I'm familiar with Ethiopian beans and this was an excellent choice. It had good, fruity flavor and I loved the taste of it. I ended up buying coffee beans to brew at home of the same kind called Masha. Definitely one of my favorite Ethiopian blends. If you bring back the mason jar they sell the beans in next time you get a $1 discount which is a good deal. I'm definitely going to go back here soon! read more

I stopped by combs coffee a few days ago; the shop was small/ cozy, and uniquely decorated with coffee bags from around the world. I ordered a decaf cortado with lavender and agave and it was okay; a little watery/ too sweet so I wasn't able to make out the tasting notes of the espresso. Although I didn't *love* the coffee, the shop was adorable and it's worth stopping into...I just maybe would stick to a non-caffeinated option. read more

Had the great pleasure to meet the owner of Combs coffee and attend my first tasting class. My husband and had a wonderful time and learned so, so much! I am obsessed with coffee and it made my heart so happy to meet someone who is so passionate and so invested in creating the best quality coffee possible while educating and sharing knowledge with the community and others. Having worked in coffee myself, I would like to think that I can tell what coffee is good quality and what coffee just has sweet syrup that makes the drink desirable. Let me just say that Combs has GOOD quality coffee. It is so tasty and if you like black coffee, his beans are very good quality and the taste is just chefs kiss. If you like lattes, their seasonal drinks are to die for and I really like their orange syrup. So unique, fragrant and delicious. For every cup you buy, you are supporting sustainable and fair trade coffee. They are run on solar power and have wonderful mason jars to take home coffee beans. They even have hot and cold cups that are... Wait for it. Biodegradable?! My dream! Anyways I can't say enough good things about this gem. I'm just so glad that something high quality has come into town in Gainesville. I wish nothing but the best for combs and cannot wait to see how they grow and how they bring value to the town. This review is for their Gainesville TX location (which is new). First let me say the coffee is very good, there is no denying that one. But 6.50 for a coffee.. like a drip coffee.. not a latte or special coffee? Whoa! That's incredibly steep. I was told if I come with my own cup it's THEN the price that they advertise. I went and saw 3 something for a cup.. ordered my coffee.. and they said 6.50. I was in such a shock. I am very surprised they want you to bring your own cup with corona guidelines and all. Anyways I have nothing further to say and don't want to be ugly or rude just can't agree with those practices. read more

Just awful. I guarantee this guy had all his friends review this place. First of all the coffee beans are super old. There are dozens right in the walkway that have been there for months upon months. The beans they used to make our coffees tasted stale and flat. We unfortunately had to throw the coffee out, that's how bad it was. The syrup, while they claim to use natural ingredients, tasted cheap and fake. The decor is trying hard to be trendy but it's a little tacky and kind of lame. I'm sorry to be so negative I just had great expectations because of these reviews and I took my coffee roaster friend with me and we were both sorely disappointed. I'm also sorry to come down on a small business but hopefully he will take these notes and make some improvements. You can't just start this place, roast a bunch of coffee and let it run itself. People are looking for excellence and there are so many amazing coffee shops in the area excelling. We want fresh and specialized coffee with attention to detail, not a place that is trying to pass themselves off as the real deal. We'll stick with west oak for now. read more

This was such a cool place. The coffee is amazing. A friend and I wanted to meet in the middle of two towns and this was the place. I asked them to put my coffee in a unicorn mug and they did. I bought some coffee beans while I was there too. Their coffee is delicious. The atmosphere is kind of a hipster vibe- it's a bit hard to find, very industrial. But the coffee is amazing. House made chocolate and an extensive love for coffee, can't get much better than that! They also deliver to local residents for FREE! I was staying with family and had an almond milk mocha delivered straight to my door with no extra charge and it was SO GOOD. The customer service is also excellent, I originally ordered a hazelnut latte and quickly received a text from an employee saying they were out.
