I just stopped in for beer. I was almost sad I'd just eaten lunch, because the food looked and smelled quite tasty. I had a pint of the Wicked Hopsta, a "milkshake IPA" aka less filtered IPA. Great place. Food, beers and, most importantly, people. My girlfriend (now fiancee) have been going to Lock 27 Brewing the last three years - about 3 - 4 times/year as we now live in Chicago (we visit her parents that much), and we have always really enjoyed our experiences there. The beer is quite good and well represents the formidable Cincinnati beer scene. The food is well-prepared each time - the presentations matches the high food quality. On Labor Day weekend, my girlfriend and I got engaged so we wanted to celebrate the occasion with her family. Wendy, Dan and the rest of the staff personalized the experience to make it much more special. In addition to flawlessly executing all my special requests, they even add a few nice touches of their own. If this place would have let us sit down - we might have stayed. They allowed their 2 largest tables sit empty (with reserved signs on them) for the duration of us 2 folks drinking their smallest flight. Not happy about that.... And usually, in true brew-pub, craft brewing spirit - folks usually encourage other folks to stand at their table and enjoy the spirits. I have never been to a craft brew pub that came off snobby.... Until this one. Not sure I will go back. I appreciate what they have done with the decor and the ambiance, but with this visit, we weren't treated with a kind spirit by the other patrons. They were very territorial. We only stood around long enough to drink 1 small flight. We would like to have tried more, but there was no where to stand and no one offered to let us stand at their table. Felt excluded. That's a first for us and we take our craft beer very seriously.... We make our vacations around craft beer. Won't recommend based off of this visit. Once the sting subsides, perhaps we might give it another shot. read more

This place is awesome...we try to go at least once every few weeks! We've tried almost everything on the menu and there isn't much that isn't good...but, the fries and pretzels are always huge favorites. And the crab cake special is to die for!! It can get super busy for dinner sometimes and we usually try to go during the off time or at lunch...the service is fantastic with all of our servers being super friendly and food is usually out super quick. Their patio is dog-friendly and they even make dog biscuits for the dogs! Overall a really great local restaurant with delicious food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff...one of our favorites! read more

Had lunch today and was disappointed in the service. Our server, Brendan was working the bar and tending to a few tables. Clearly he was not attentive to his tables and he seemed to forget that he had tables. I think the services was absolutely horrible. The food is always pretty good there; however, Brendan messed up the salad order and our pretzel's came out very, very done, to almost burnt (which wasn't Brendan's fault). Overall, I would go back, but if the bar tender was going to wait on my table and tend bar, I would definitely ask for another server. read more

My husband and I love this bar! It's our go-to place for date night. My hubby loves the variety of craft brews, and usually can't decide on one, so he orders a flight. We went here on a Friday night at about 830. We were able to snatch the last table for two. It was pretty loud, but we were able to carry on a nice convo. He had one of the Lock 27's brews. I don't particularly like beer, but can appreciate the effort. His beer smelled wonderful. I had a Sauvignon blanc and a wonderful draft cider after that. We shared the Poutine. Ohmagawd. This was worth his trip from West Chester! Fries, gravy, cheese curds, short rib meat, and we opted for the sunny side up egg. So good. We also had a decent beet salad and some sliders that were very good, but the Poutine was the star. My wife and I went there to try their pumpkin ale since we saw their Facebook posting. We arrived around 5pm, which was not their peak capacity. They still had at a few tables that were empty. However, upon arriving, we had to wait 20 minutes before our order was taken. They had enough staff, but their organized teamwork lacked big time. One of their waitresses appeared angry and overworked. Also, bar had guys who were yelling at the top of their lungs about a soccer game. I was thinking, is this a sports bar???? In the end, they did not have any pumpkin beer and we ended up getting beer that was not their own. A summary would be, lousy service, loud guys who yell at soccer matches, and beer you can not even try. If you are a home brewer or appreciate microbrews, I suggest you go to South Park Tavern or Yellow Springs Brewery, where they have much better customer service. read more

Always good food - but last night was a different experience. One of my friends wanted to substitute the vegetable of the day for fries - upcharge of $2.00! I get that some foods are more expensive, but that seems high. They could at least offer several alternatives at no up-charge. Then when she asked for more tartar sauce - an upcharge - asked for mayonnaise - an upcharge for that as well! I'm floored! And the "customer appreciation" dessert was put on our bill. If I had given this review after Lock 27 first opened and for a while thereafter it would be a 5 star. Two things have happened since: first and foremost, we have noticed that when the owner comes out to the floor, his behavior is borderline hostile; never smiles, never makes eye contact or greets customers at any level--lots of negative vibes from him The staff is great, friendly and knowledgable. Second, last time I ordered the caprese panini the mozzarella was not sliced as usual, but was cubed (like you find in a salad, not on a sandwich); very unappealing--hopefully, not a sign that the food is going down hill-initially, it was fabulous. We were giving strong recommendations initially, but we've cooled off. May give another chance or so because we really enjoyed it and love supporting a local establishment with quality food, drink and service. read more

The food was great--we had fish tacos, the pretzel appetizer, the strawberry dessert, and my husband had a local brew. The service was very lack-luster, but the other servers were hustling much more than ours. Our server took quite a while to get our order (about 10 minutes)--She took it without a greeting or friendly welcome. Our appetizer took longer than it should to be served (but was delicious and warm). Our food came out when we were only 1/2 way through our appetizer. We had to stop eating our main course because it was spicy (again--delicious), but our drinks were gone. Not low--gone. Our waitress did not stop by our table until she saw us with our hands in our laps and staring at her. I've never eaten at a place--especially one known for its local brew--who allows beverages to be totally drained. I never got water--just a refill on the soda I purchased at the bar while waiting to be initially seated (and got charged for the refill). The dessert was just okay. What a great place! Visited tonight for the first time and my wife and I were not disappointed. We sampled all 5 Lock 27 brews on tap and each was very good. I had the Asian pork sliders and my wife had Thai curry. The only complaint for the night was her Thai curry was a bit heavy on the sauce. A piece of baguette would have been nice to soak it up. We had the stout brownie for dessert which was delicious. The portion sizes were not huge and the prices reflected this. It was nice to be able to get a decent portion for a good price and still have enough room in the belly and wallet to get dessert. We thought the service was great too. We like a wait staff that is attentive but not in your face. Our server was very nice and made a great recommendation on the brownie. We can't wait to come back! read more

I have visited Lock 27 three times so far, and i have been very impressed every time. The owner and his staff are very friendly and always open to conversation. The beer list is extensive, there is a beer for every taste here. The new smoked wings are very tasty and a must try. Ok, the last time I went to Lock 27 the service was slow but the food was so good that I decided I would try them again. My in-laws came in town so we decide to have lunch there on a Sunday afternoon. There were not that many people at the restaurant that day so I did not expect slow service. After we were done eating my mother in law said " The food was good but the service was very slow". I felt bad because she looked very annoyed. It took over an hour for our food to come out and everyone at the table looked mad by the time the check came. When we ordered our second round of drinks that also came out later than expected. One should not have to wait 20 min. with an empty glass on a hot patio. We had a different server this time, they were nice but the slow service overshadowed everything. Nowadays, you have to have more than just good food to be a great restaurant, great service is important too. read more

Kinda surprised that some of the reviews aren't higher. I stopped in for the first time last week in the afternoon. Brad was the man working the bar, and was helpful and nice. Had the pork tacos (GREAT flavor) and the perogies (excellent as well). Also had two of the Lock 27 beers (the Sunfish was my fave). I enjoyed the food and beer so much that I had my hiking group stop in last Saturday. I stopped in with my wife and met the group there. They all raved about the food. My wife and I wanted the pork tacos, but the menu had changed and so we had the pork sliders. Spicy flavor, great fries, and the chef came out twice to talk to our group. Anytime we are in the area hiking we will be certain to hit Lock 27. While it may be located in s strip mall, the interior atmosphere is pretty cool, and the place is clean (including the restrooms). Looks like they normally carry five of their own beers and five guest taps. Give it a try! read more
