Rockfish Sandwich
Sarah H.

I tried the salmon dip and the rockfish bahn mi. The chips were warm and crispy, the salmon dip was such a great appetizer. The rockfish was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the toppings and sauce on the sandwich. We sat at the bar so it was cool to be so up close to the food being cooked and the preparation. The presentation of everything was also so impressive. We went on a Saturday for an early dinner and we didn't have to wait for a spot to open up. Overall, I enjoyed that their menu wasn't too expansive but still had a variety. I will definitely be coming back to introduce friends to the place!

POV: you just got out of the Fremont Flea Market(s) (both, mind you) after a morning of browsing through so many antique goodies that your head is spinning. The wind is howling. Your fingers are getting numb. Hunger blurs your vision. And then your trusty friend says, "I know a place for food." After a quick drive and gentle uphill walk, you arrive at none other than Local Tide. There's a line out the door. Your stomach gurgles. "It's worth the wait, I think," your friend proclaims nervously. You all choose to wait. When you get inside, you find that the crab roll you'd been salivating over is sold out. Devastating, but no matter-- you'd already chosen the salmon sandwich as your backup. Your friends also order the shrimp toast and smoked salmon belly dip to share. The sweet cashier thanks you all, offers you a seat quickly and says your food will be right out. The smoked salmon belly dip comes first. DELECTABLE. You're already starving at this point, but the staff notified you that there would be a slight delay with the other food, so you begin to ration the chips and dip. Fifteen minutes pass. Twenty. Once it's nearing 35 minutes, you're getting antsy. You're supposed to be at Pac-Sci by now, and it's already 3:15. Will you make it in by 5? Your friends are getting hangry. Tensions are high. Maybe you should just eat the cost of the sandwich and go... Just when you think all hope is lost, the waft of oil, mayo, and fried goodness hits your nose. It's here. The glorious shrimp toast and salmon sandwich arrive to the table, along with the cod, another salmon sandwich, and the rockfish bowl. The waiter serves you all an apologetic look and all of the previous heat melts away. Everyone digs in immediately, and for 10 minutes, the table is silent save for vigorous chewing and occasional "this is so good"s. You finish your meal. The sky is clear. You make it to Pac Sci in time. Would come back for that smoked salmon dip. Thank you, Will, for the rec.

Crab roll (delicious)

Your reliably delicious neighborhood quick eat seafood spot. The owners/front staff have always been really friendly to me. Yes, they get busy as they are high on tourist spots but if you can get there early, it's worth it. My go to order are the fish sandwich, crab roll (only available Friday to Sunday), and when I feel like red meat, the smash burger. Inside is clean, you can see the kitchen, no fuss vibes in terms of service since lots of people are waiting but you can sit and chat if you want.

Seattle did NOT disappoint when it came to the food options! I spent my birthday weekend in Seattle and my godsister recommended this spot. It is counter service and a line was already forming, always a good sign. The menu is small but still has so many choices at the same time, so we ended up ordering almost everything. When I say everything was sooooo delicious and fresh, I mean I still think about that food to this day. Truly phenomenal. The place itself is really cute but there is not a lot of seating. Luckily we were able to sit, wait, and eat next door at the wine bar. The staff was friendly and very helpful. 10 out of 10 birthday stop!

Salmon teriyaki

This is a nice spot to grab a casual lunch or dinner. I appreciate that they had a lot of healthy options. I got the salmon teriyaki bowl which was really good and fresh but overpriced at 24$. My mom loved the rockfish. I've heard good things about the shrimp toast here as well but we didn't try that. Also the employees are very friendly here.

Smashburger $12 delicious

Have been hearing great things about their burger for a while now but there's always a line out the door. Finally happened to be in the area at a moment when there wasn't a line. It did not disappoint.

Salmon belly dip

Tried Local tied the other day after the gym. I loved the healthier fare they offer, it felt like I can enjoy a night out without feeling terrible about my waistline. I had the salmon teriyaki bowl and it was really good! The rice was really tasty and the salmon was very tender and not dry! My favorite was the salmon belly dip. I almost bought one to go because it was so delicious, will definitely be back just for that. Sort of a weird set up when you dine there. You order first + pay then they point to a random table for you to sit at and then when you're done eating you can just leave. It was a bit tight and there's not a ton of seating so be prepared for that. Otherwise it was a great experience.

Clam Chowder w/ Sourdough Bread:House Made Fish Stock, Fresh Manila Clams, Bacon, Carrots, Onions, Celery, Russet, Sweet Peas, Fresh Cream.

I came for dinner and it was quite busy. You order at the front before sitting down, which can be confusing if you didn't know. I ordered the chowder and my friends ordered the Rockfish Banh Mi and Fried Oysters. Overall, the food was good but a tad expensive for the amount of food, specifically the Fried Oysters. I'd try the Shrimp Toast next time and maybe the Dover & Fries.

Clam Chowder + Crab Roll

Delicious and fresh seafood! We ordered the Dover & Fries which is like Fish & Chips but cooked in an asian salt & pepper style. The dover is very thin and crispy and PIPING hot. I liked their clam chowder, you can really taste the clam-umami. it's not your typical cream-based chowder, rather more clam-broth based with a hint of cream instead! We also ordered the crab roll - I'm more biased towards hot rolls so it wasn't my thing but if you like a cold crab salad type roll it's worth trying. You get seated after you order at the counter and service was great.

Crab roll

was pretty excited for this - as I'd heard really nice things about the restaurant itself, along with the crab roll especially the crab roll seems to be quite popular - as it seems like it often sells out on weekends starting off, this buttery brioche bun is magical. it's so soft yet so well toasted on the outside, and yet astoundingly fluffy on the inside the exterior has just the right amount of butter where it's a complimentary flavor rather than taking over the entire bun the level of toasting achieved on this bun is highly impressive - there's not a single part that isn't perfect might be the best roll i've ever had the roll is pretty stuffed with crab meat i don't think i'm a huge crab lover - I do like it - but it seems relatively flavorless compared to other meats however, there are a few things i loved about the crab in this bun first, obviously, you can eat it with the roll, which just makes everything better second, the seasoning on the meat was absolutely fantastic - there was a mayo-based sauce, there was lemon juice giving it a slightly acidic taste, and there was a sprinkle of seasoning that made everything really could while I don't know if the meat itself had great flavor - I loved the fact that the restaurant did everything it could to impart that flavor onto the dish huge props for that I also really liked the amount of crab placed in this roll - it was pretty stuffed with the meat - even coming pretty significantly out of the hole in the split top so, the food was really good, but i do have an issue for the really expensive price point ($30 for a single roll) this was not filling at all i recognize that crab is expensive - and the amount of crab placed in here was pretty impressive - but for 30 dollars this needs to come with some sort of a filling side whether it can be clam chowder, fries, or anything - no matter how good the food is, when you pay that amount for a meal, the meal needs to leave you satisfied I understand that you can't just place an infinite amount of crab, but increasing the size of the roll, or adding another side are ways to increase the portion size of this meal

Shrimp toast

My brother and I visited on a random Tuesday for a late lunch, and thankfully there was no line. I've heard the lines can get pretty long here, so what a relief! We ordered the tuna melt special, shrimp toast, and clam chowder to share. I was expecting the clam chowder to be creamy, but the broth was more thin and runny than thick and creamy. It was decent, but nothing mind blowing. I enjoyed the shrimp toast the most; it was flavorful, crispy, and made for yummy bites with the sauces provided. The tuna melt special was $24 and tiny for the price in my opinion. They should split this sandwich into two instead of having it be one gigantic mess to eat. It was pretty good, but again nothing to rave about. We spent about $37 each and I still left hungry afterwards which is not ideal. The ambience is cozy and warm, and service is standard. I do think it's quite overpriced and overrated so probably wouldn't go back, but I'm glad I got to try Local Tide!

Wennie H.

Glad I was able to pop in, line out the door on a Thursday night at 7pm. Line moves fairly quickly, concept/order then be seated works well. Service is super friendly and interior is very cute and clean. We ordered the smoked salmon dip to share, the rockfish banh mi and the fried fish sandwich. The dip was super salty and the chips were heavily salted (really good and crispy). The rockfish banh mi had good flavor and amount of chilis helped improve the fried fish since it was very bland...like no seasoning and the fish was over fried to the point where it was just hard. Unfortunately, we weren't fans but can see the appeal for sure.

TLDR: fresh and delicious seafood, must try spot I've come here a couple times at various times for lunch - there's usually a bit of line but moves pretty fast and you get seated right after ordering. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of their menu items - everything I've tried is super fresh and always has complex flavor notes. My favorite is the shrimp toast - paired with mayo and a chili sauce on the side, the buttery shrimp on toast is straight up comfort food. All of their fish, no matter what variation, tastes super fresh and flaky. All their sides are chosen to complement each type of fish making each dish have that perfect combo of salt, fat and acid.

Ordering kiosks inside, not a lot of in person contact. (Perfect for some) The menu options are great. They have a "create your own" plate option, which I got. I ordered 1/2 teriyaki chicken and 1/2 sesame chicken, with brown rice. The meal was $14. If you ask me, that is a hell of a deal! The portion size was pretty hearty. Wait time said 14 minutes, but it was only around 10 minutes. The teriyaki was my fave of the 2 chicken entrees. The meat was thick, juicy and flavorful. (No gross fatty pieces!) The sesame was good too, but next time I would get a full order of the teriyaki alone. In, out, delicious food, good portion size and a decent price! What more could you ask for!!?

My husband, who prides himself as being a Korean who can handle a high spice level was SWEATING eating the spicy chicken. Granted, the menu does warn that it's very spicy, but he was not expecting this level of heat. He was only able to get through about half the meal and commented that he was glad he didn't have work the next day. (If you know, you know.) I'm not sure if this was just an exceptionally spicy batch, or if it's normally this spicy, but be warned! They're not messing around when it comes to the heat. The edamame was also just so-so. It's a bummer that out of the two times we've come here, we've only enjoyed 1 out of their 4 sides. Combining our first and second experience, I think this is a solid 4-star spot. Good for a takeout meal, if you order the right thing.

got the Notorious PIG sandwich and the Buttermilk Biscuit while I was here…read more Starting with the sandwich, there were a ton of things to love about this The very first thing I noticed was how all-time crispy the pork belly was. Interestingly, the meat came in two separate pieces, arranges somewhat like an X or a cross in the middle of the sandwich. This certainly wasn't the eating experience of a typical sandwich with a circular meat patty, and I appreciate the creativity here. The meat was insanely crunchy, oily, and quite plentiful. Each bite felt a bit like you were biting into a crunchy churro, but without the sweetness. I did think the outside of the pork did overpower the inside, though, as I didn't taste the meat or the fat inside much, and due to the amount of breading the pieces ended up being a bit chewy The bun was quite good as well - it was pretty soft, fluffy, and served as a really good bookend to all the ingredients inside. I thought the lettuce and onions also were good. I don't know if I'm a fan of the jelly on the sandwich - but again, I do like the creativity. What did shine here was the aioli, however. In a lot of places, you don't really taste the aioli on a burger - but that flavor was ever-present on this sandwich, and it was really fantastic. The absolute best part of the meal, by far, though, was the biscuit I have to start with how huge this is. This is certainly not the size of a typical Southern-style buttermilk biscuit - rather this biscuit makes no apologies in its effort to stand out from the crowd. Absolutely nobody would mistake this for a traditional biscuit - on the contrary, I think on first glance most people would assume this isn't a biscuit at all. It's shaped more like a massive pastry. I hesitate to say that looks are deceiving, because it does look great, but its taste manages to elevate past that. This was SO good. The edges are baked perfectly - they're oily, crispy, crunchy, and perfectly flaky. All four sides provide an amazing base - like the walls of a fortress that surround the soft, tender interior of the biscuit. You can see the different layers from the outside as well. When it comes to the inside, there was so much to get through but every bite was heavenly. So much credit here goes to the honey butter - which when spread onto the biscuit, raises the taste level of the entire thing. I put so much honey butter on mine that I nearly finished the whole thing. When it came to the jam, it was good, but since it didn't combine great with the honey butter I mostly ended up just using the latter This place was expensive - around 16 dollars for the sandwich and 8 for the biscuit - however, I was quite full at the end

It wasn't quite incredibly tender, but the marinade added an absolute ton of flavor. more importantly, it was present plentifully throughout the sandwich, so practically every bite came filled with pork I also have to mention how packed together the ingredients are between the buns. when you start eating, it's inevitable that a quarter of the ingredients will fall onto the wrap below, leaving a nice secondary meal to finish off after the sandwich is done. the sandwich is packed incredibly tight during the wrapping process, but it unravels a bit while eating. for me, the major highlights of this meal was the onions and the aioli Starting with the onions, these may be the best I've ever had on a sandwich. They're caramelized amazingly, placed onto the sandwich in astoundingly large pieces, are crunchy, and there's just a lot of them. They're just wonderful both texturally and taste-wise. This sandwich is absolutely lathered with aioli - practically dripping with it. This boosted the overall flavor so much, especially because this aioli was addictingly good. In my experience, the amount of sauce has been directly proportional to how much I enjoyed a sandwich, and when the sauce is this good - it's even on the top of the bun! - i absolutely loved it Somehow the lettuce stayed crunchy despite all the otherwise wetness going on in the sandwich. Props for that The jalapenos were great as well for that extra bit of spicy - I would've loved to have more of them while the bread was toasted well, the one downside was i thought it was pretty hard and tough, which made chewing kind of difficult. I found my jaw to be pretty tired at the end after eating this. I would've much preferred a softer roll that's easier to bite into I've had similar sandwiches from Paseo and Bongos, and in my opinion this does edge out both of those Comparing to Paseo, the sandwich there has way more oil, making it more sloppy and I do like the bread there a lot better, but the pork feels richer and better marinated here (although less fatty), and the onions are definitely caramelized better here as well. Bongos has a pretty similar level of pork with more, but onions are definitely a step down What moves this place above those two for me is the amount of aioli used here far exceeds those other places, which just makes the overall eating experience better For the price (about 14 dollars) this is a really filling meal
