When we look for a burger joint, we will always gravitate toward the place with gluten free buns. We tried the bbq pork fries,with cheese curds smothered with bbq sauce ,big enough to share,very good. My son and I got the Westhampton, bacon, cheddar cheese bbq and ranch cooked medium to perfect with that charcoal smell this burger is delicious. Ordered food for takeout today. My server was very nice and happy to take the order. I ordered 2 small fries without any seasoning and well done. He repeated my order and seemed to understand. The order was to go so it was wrapped up. When I got home the fries were soft, not crispy and packed with salt. I have eaten there before and everything for eat in dining was wonderful. Local Burger has unprofessional employees that hang up on customers when asked their name due to their rudeness, and a manager that calls customers houses, makes excuses for his employees unprofessional behavior, and then says insulting/offensive things to customers and hangs up on them. Five Guys is up the street. The burgers and service are significantly better. There's no reason to go to this over priced, over hyped, unprofessional grease pit. read more

Local is a recently opened (May, 2012) spacious burger emporium. Located on a Main Street corner, there is limited outdoor seating, though this can be problematic depending upon the street addicts frequenting the cement park adjoining it. Inside is simple decor but with cacophonous acoustics, so you'd better hope they play music that you like, otherwise you might be fighting the neighborhood drunks for those outdoor tables. Local offers a straight forward limited burger menu. We like limited menus. It usually means that the kitchen can take the time to get something right. Sadly "limited" at Local means patties on sesame bun. It is impossible to get a greasy pattie and a Price Chopper roll right. Their dressed out burger specials might include cheese, bacon, and let + tom, but sports a $10.99 price tag, too. On the side: the french fries look home made but are greasy (go to Fritz's across the street for out of this world ff's). And fried pickles should be done in beer batter, but Local's are rolled in corn meal - absolutely dreadful. Drinks are fountain sodas or bottled. Service at the order counter is polite but dull. Did someone go to Five Guys, figured "this can't be hard", so borrowed $5,000 from dad and tried to do the same thing? And how hard IS opening a burger joint?? Well, opening it is easy. But serving good food requires imagination, even for burgers. So here's an idea for free: buy 85% lean beef, make a large burger by hand, charbroil it on open flame, serve on toasted bulkie roll, use real cheese when needed, and charge less than ten bucks. This place is what it is, and what it probably always will be: nothing special. And we don't care where the food comes from - if you can't do something wonderful with it what difference does it make? ps. Five Guys burgers ain't all that great either, but their fries make it a step above Local's. pps. Wow, that last reviewer is pretty harsh. I didn't think Local was out of this world, but I think 3-3.5 stars is more accurate. First off, they're not trying to be Five Guys. The foundation of the restaurant is the local meat, and this makes a huge difference. It shows that they care about being part of the community but as a result makes everything more expensive. And personally, I'm happy to pay more for a place that actually cares. I had the capn crunch crusted chicken fingers, which were delicious. Given, I am a chicken finger fanatic and I hardly ever eat them anymore because I'm a snob about knowing where my food comes from. But these were definitely better than your average diner. M had a burger and didn't say that it was anything special, but he had no complaints and that's pretty rare. My biggest concern was the sheer amount of time everything took. When we first arrived, there was no line and food took about 10 minutes to come out of the kitchen. But once dinnertime approached, the line got longer and longer and the food came out slower. The model of a fast food joint does involve food getting to you quickly, and they definitely need to work on this. But you know what? They're new and they encrust locally raised chicken in capn crunch. So I'll be giving them another try. read more

Not ONE table in the place was clean and the floors appear to have not been cleaned in years. Every inch of the place was filthy, filthy, filthy. This is indefensible. I cleaned one table with hand sanitizer and the napkins were black with filth. I would think that if Covid was truly a concern, the restaurant would at least be clean, but hey, everyone was wearing a mask. I'm more worried about hepatitis after that experience. Yes, if it were just slow service, and it was, it could be overlooked, but cleanliness should be a priority at ALL times, regardless of the circumstance. The pulled pork was just soggy and tasteless. In an effort give it some flavor, I asked the waitress for Carolina Sauce, which you apparently no longer offer. She proceeded to argue with me, saying "We've never had that". If your burger options are really original but they give everyone gas you will still be known as the place that makes everyone sick not the place with unique options. We had a turkey burger and an Easthampton both tasted good although the sweet potato fries were so so terrible. The ambiance is nice, it appears to be clean. This is basically just a slower more expensive 5 Guys. Beer selection is good but the beers on tap are pretty basic and lame. Pan handlers to the left of this place are always looking for change. All in all i would try again even with the embarrassingly bad gas. Not sure i would ever try the peanut butter and jelly burger. read more

When we walked in most people were already eating, so why it took over 30 minutes for the food and drinks (beer and sangria) to come out is beyond me. The one waitress working was very attentive to her parents, who were sitting behind us, and brought them refills of several things, yet never acknowledged us. The gentlemen at counter finally brought our food and drinks after 35 minutes. It was also Very cold in the restaurant! Most of the dine-in tables left their coats on. Went here for lunch with a friend. I had the turkey burger with cheddar cheese and bacon and my friend had the portobello hamburger. They give you options-you choose the type of burger such as veggie, beef, turkey and then the dressings-onions, lettuce tomato etc. They will custom make it the way you like. Mine came with maple mayo. I found mine to be average-the bun was cold and the burger hot and for whatever reason, it fell apart almost from the beginning. It was ok, nothing special. My friend however, thought hers was wonderful. WE shared some sweet potato fries which I found to be a bit soggy. They came with a dressing that may have been the maple mayo-not sure. What I did like a lot was the pumpkin spice milkshake. It was really good. The place is casual. You order at the counter and they will bring you your order. There is some 60's music playing or at least that's what we heard-we found it fun. They have signs that say they were voted the best hot dogs and hamburgers so perhaps it matters what you order. read more

Let's cut to the chase. It's a burger joint with some creative options and some that might best be left for others to try. The atmosphere is burger joint. If you've ever been to a Five Guys you'll notice some similarities. No complaints and no crazy expectations. They do have some convenient outdoor seating which rocks in New Hampshire summertime. They've taken the burger joint menu and definitely kicked it up with some very good options. The hamburger is all high quality grass fed beef. They offer a grilled portobello which gets a lovely char that really makes it a savory alternative, and one I'd happily have again with grilled peppers and crumbled bleu cheese. They also offer hot dogs. You might be surprised but Peanut Butter goes quite well with the grease and salt of a burger. Their offering comes with Jelly though, which I'm a little unsure of. Local seems to love mixing the sweet with the savory and to that end offers several deep fried options coated in Captain Crunch. The chicken tenders sounds good, the hotdog or burger, I'm not so sure. I got quite the chuckle out of their "Local" bottled water which must take a 200-250 mile truck ride from Forestport NY, are there springs in NH or VT? Now on to the things to be prepared for. Firstly, skip the sweet potato fries. Somehow they've figured out how to make things soggy and tough at the same time. The skin-on approach leaves you with a jerky-like outer coating on an otherwise soggy fry. Have the regular fries, or a different side. Secondly, be prepared for poor service. The cashier didn't tell us they'd yell out a number on our receipt as they meander the dining room to find where you sat, so we were fumbling for our receipt after the very long wait. Yes that's the other thing, you may be sitting and waiting for a while, so get the fountain drink so you can get a refill, or order that extra adult beverage. read more

Summary: Smelled like McDonalds, meat is bland and dry, fries messed up. Had the angus burgers. Only choice was pink or well done. Ours were ordered pink, and they came pink (medium well). Toppings and bun were acceptable, a small step up from fast food burgers. Where the burgers really disappointed was the low quality of the meat, and complete lack of seasoning. The patties were clearly frozen premade pucks, VERY HARD, super bland, NOT juicy. If you taste the meat alone, it's hard to tell it's actually beef. I'm a bit baffled how someone would call it "greasy", are these people used to eating turkey or tofu burgers? My guess is their "angus" burgers are a general grind of cheap bland cuts like round, bland and low fat (cooks up dry). The two different burgers (regular and grass fed) I had at the Local in Northampton were cooked to my requested medium rare, and were much juicier and tastier (although had the same lack of seasoning). Our fries were disappointing. At first glance they looked like nice fresh fries made from real potatoes. After a few bites we realized there had a sort of dried out texture and poor interior, like oven made fries where you spray oil on potatoes and cook them to death. I don't know if these sat around too long before the second fry, but our fries at the Local in Northampton were much better. The restaurant interior seemed a bit barren, and reeked of ketchup, that's all I smelled. Sadly, it reminded me of smell of a McDonalds. The outdoor seating is right on Main St, not on the side, so you get car exhaust and noise. About half the outdoor seats were rickety folding chairs that felt unstable. I do appreciate the char broiled flavor of the burgers at Local, but for the same price range, you can get a much better burger that includes fries at Elm Street Brew. They will even cook it to order with none of this "pink" bs. read more

I love Local Burger. The restaurant is clean and has a nice, open atmosphere. The artwork on the wall is simple, sometimes colorful and the music is generally something from the 80s. Local has daily specials with most of their food; my favorite one is the Greek burger, which is a lamb patty and tzatziki sauce. Other flavors include Sriracha with peanut butter, BBQ with onion rings, the specials are endless. They also have awesome sides, like fried Mac and cheese bites, salted caramel milk shakes, and Cap'n Crunch coated chicken. Prices are decent and the employees are super friendly. We rode our motorcycles into Keene on a Friday at lunchtime intending to try the Mexican joint across the street but it was closed so when we spied the outdoor tables at Local we headed over there, instead. Came to local burger around 4:00 on a Sunday. I had been here previously years ago and definitely made it my destination for lunch while in the area again. I ordered the "local burger". While the burger itself tasted great it was such a mess I couldn't enjoy it. Half of the toppings and condiments fell off before I even got a bite. The bottom bun was so soggy it disintegrated. The onion rings are great. Probably the best I've had. The shake is above average, but still a little overpriced for what you get. I got the local burger and you'd think the featured burger named after your restaurant would be outstanding however the "angus" beef seemed like it was the same quality as a hockey puck you'd buy frozen at the supermarket. They somehow managed to cook my burger well done when I asked for medium rare. The supporting ingredients are about average maybe a little better. Nothing was particularly bad but it wasn't the quantity you'd normally find at a "best of NH" restaurant. I am decently picky about my burgers and this place has got my interest. There portions are good for the price, I got a 6oz Angus ( I think it was 6 oz) with American cheese and sauteed mushrooms and a small fry for $10.01 that includes tax and such. The fries are tasty and wicked good portions, and the burger was delicious! They have huge window so you can actually watch them cook as well if your standing outside. I wish there was more of a cheese variety like Swiss and such. They only have Bleu Cheese American and Cheddar. I wish they offered a spiced french fry as well but it isn't necessary. I also find that there is too much space in the restaurant from the register to the door. read more

Just ate lunch at Local Burger, this was my 3rd time there and as usual the food was excellent. I will certainly eat there again and will recommend to anyone who is looking for a good burger. They are a bit pricey BUT, all food is local to SW New Hampshire and therefore supports the local economy. My wife had the "Farm House Turkey Burger" and had a very subtle maple flavor, the sauces were good and had all the fixings. I had the "Cheddar House Burger" with a BBQ sauce with all the fixings and was excellent. Both burgers were prepared and cooked to perfection. While waiting for our order we shared the chili cheese fries and that was a treat. Along with Peach Lavender Sangria and I had the Strawberry Lemon Sangria, both we excellent. The price for all of that was $34,yeah a bit pricey, but no GMO, no Monsanto, all local grown and raised food and it was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and helpful, they were fast to get our meal to us and was very polite. read more

Had dinner here while staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Inn located just down the street from Local Burger. It was the smartest decision I made (there are many restaurants on Main St to choose from) so deciding where to eat was very difficult. My wife & I chose to eat outside at a table located out front on the sidewalk ( we were able to practice social distancing & people watch at the same time). We both ordered the "local burger" which was 2 patties, with lettuce tomato, bacon, cheese, mushrooms & onions. Wife ordered it "well done" and I got it " pink ", we both couldn't believe how big this burger was! We could hardly take a bite because it was so big but it was the "best tasting burger we both ever had!!". Burger had that wonderful charbroiled taste, it was so juicy and toppings were excellent & fresh!! We also got an order of fries which were crispy & cooked perfectly! After my first bite I said " I want to order 2 or three more of their different burgers!" When we left, I told one of the staff members how much we enjoyed our burgers! Stopped by here recently and tried a selection of the fries, really expecting a lot as they had apparently just been voted Best in Keene for them. Not sure who was voting, but Fritz Fries would beat them hands down any day. Their french fries were good, but definitely not great, and their sweet potato fries were generally soft and soggy rather than crunchy like a good SP fry. Had grass fed burger with the works, amazing! "captain crunch" tenders are you kidding me also amazing, hand cut fries awesome. Have to try more stuff next time. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our recent stop at Local. Fresh lettuce, fresh tomato, fresh bun, slice of cheddar and big ole hunk of meat cooked pink in the middle and served to the table piping hot. The blue cheese and buffalo fries were awesome, although they could have been crisper. I'm pretty sure they were fried up to order, and next time - and, Oh, Yeah there will be a next time - I'll ask for them to be done a little longer. My daughter loved her burger, topped with fried Mac and cheese, and her cookies and Cream milkshake. So why not 5 stars? Well, there's the aforementioned slightly wilted fries. But they are so freakin' good, as is, that I wouldn't ding them a star for that alone. What I don't get is the bun. It's too small and it's not toasted. I'm a guy who does not like when the meat hangs out of the bun. That makes for messy and uncondimented consumption. And I'm a guy who likes a toasted bun; serving me a burger on a lightly browned fresh bun is the difference between a giving me a an elegantly wrapped gift instead of "Here, I got ya something," still in the plastic bag from the store. I don't get the hate, but maybe this place is just too expensive for a small college town. Students are broke and professors are impecunious... broke with a Ph.D. Local is a bit on the pricey side... I think the two burgers, fries, milk shake and two bottomless sodas came to a bit over $30, but McDonalds would have cost $20 for what would be less food, less interesting food, less tasty food, less fresh food, less pleasant surroundings. Ya gets what ya pays for. They have a sister store in Northampton, MA. I actually ate there a couple years ago and had been thinking on and off about a return trip. Not the best value for your dollar, but a good burger. The burgers are great and I love that they are locally sourced. However, the localization of the product comes at a steep price. My favorite burgers are the Juicy Lucy and the Farmhouse Turkey Burger but I only ever go here on random occasions. The low-scale atmosphere coupled with the high price for each burger makes it less than attractive for someone like me who wants value for the dollar. I appreciate the high quality product, but at the end of the day, a burger is a burger. I'd rather spend that sort of money on another dish. read more
